So glad to see Bittner's has finally returned! The new space is charming with great personal touches. Instead of being located in the main downtown intersection, the new location is housed within the strip mall adjacent to the Shell gas station on the north side of town. The selection is even more abundant than I remember from childhood - many new modern twists fill the cases. Definitely try their lemon meringue cupcakes and the chocolate dipped cannoli! It is so hard to find a good bakery no less a great one. Bittner's is great. They have a huge selection of morning pastries, don't miss the croissants. Their cookies are wonderful, we fight over the small butter ones with the chocolatr on top. The cakes are deluxe, not sure which is better the chocolate or the lemon. Very cute shop but it is adjacent to a Shell gas station so it is easy to miss. Only open Wednesday thru Saturday. read more

This bakery has tradition, generations, and hope. Amy "hope" . They consistently make every bakery item delicious from morning bakery to bread to eloquent deserts for weddings and fun cakes for birthday parties. Earning Best Bakery in WI this year was no surprise, neither is Amy's commitment to so generously giving in the community. They also are adapting to current COVID concerns and created great options to still celebrate during these times. Yum!! We were here for a marriage retreat for our church and stopped here. Oh my word this place is so good!! We had their maple donut with bacon on top. It was really good!! My favorite though was their blueberry scone.. I wish I would have bought more than two. If ever we come back to this area a stop here is definitely going to be at the top of the list!! I'm from Chicago and we all know what kind of bakery our big city has. Bittners bakery is the best bakery around here. I love the chocolate peanut butter cupcakes, Apple pie is to die for, Apple and cherry slices and filled buttercream coffee cake are also excellent. My husband ordered a custom 3D cake for our sons 2nd birthday. Myself and my mother-in-law asked the staff when we picked up the cake if it needed to be refrigerated since the party was the next day. They said no, everything was fine at room temp. Well we woke up the next morning and the cake had fallen apart. None of the children got to see the cake in it's glory and it was completely ruined. The cake cost $75 and was supposed to be the showcase of the party. When we contacted the owner, she claims she told us to refrigerate it and said they aren't responsible after the cake leaves the shop. We received a $20 credit. She told my husband that both myself and my mother-in-law must have heard her wrong. Terrible customer service and experience. Will not be going back. read more

I'm not a bakery aficionado. I just go when the wife tells me to pick up something for her sweet tooth. The selection seemed a little small and they catered more towards sweets than breads, muffins, rolls etc. I did find soda bread for our St Pattys Day meal. That was good. I usually purchase our sweets at the Swiss Maid Bakery in Harvard so I'm comparing Bittners brownies to Swiss Maid. Bittners is great but a little overly sweet for me. The brownie was about an 1/2 inch thick with at least that much frosting on it. Brownie was $1.25 as compared to Swiss Maids at .90 cents and Swiss Maids appear slightly larger. I would have to take the Swiss Maid brownie over this one just due to sweetness in it. In a strip mall with easy parking and in and out. Nice place. read more

Of the 6 different desserts that we picked, we received compliments on each and every one. Good old Bittner's Bakery! My childhood favorite has been revived by the son and daughter-in-law of the original owners. Located slightly out of town, attached to a gas station, this place is worth the stop. Brownies are as good as I remember. Can't wait to go back next time I'm in town to see if everything is as good as I remember. They also now have soup and coffee. Hope they have some yummy kringle! read more

Bittner's is known for their cakes ... At least that's what I know them for, and cakes they know how to do. What they don't know anything about is bread ... in particular, their 'German hard rolls.' I bought a half-dozen the other day, and ended up with a half-dozen mediocre hamburger buns. No texture, no flavor, and no sign of the hard, crusty/chewy character that makes German hard rolls such a joy ... Clearly, the baker has NEVER been to Germany, and if they have been to Germany, they missed the point of the trip. Stick to the cakes. read more

Highly recommended for wedding. We had 3 cake tiers and some additional desserts. Everything was absolutely delicious, and the cake was beautiful (and bigger than I expected!) Got some tarts for a fancy picnic I had at Yerkes Observatory. They were so good and so reasonably priced. When I paid I thought she accidentally only charged me for one. My Wife and I decided to use Bittner's for our wedding cake and brownies. They did not disappoint! From the simple drop-off, delivery, and platter returns, it was by far one of the easiest vendor setups we had. They let us sample whatever we wanted; we chose several different types of brownies (both regular and g-free), and they also made a delicious g-free cake. We received compliments all night on how amazing the brownies were (I doubt most people could tell they were eating g-free). We used Bittners for our Wedding last weekend. We ordered our wedding cake and a bunch of sweets for our sweet table. While the cake was good, THEY FORGOT TO DELIVER ALL THE SWEETS WE ORDERED. We tried to call them when we realized we didnt have sweets, but of course Bittners was closed. I'm not sure if you could imagine explaining to your guests of your wedding WHY the sweet table was BARE with empty plate stands. Even our wedding planner could not believe a bakery could let this happen. She does many weddings in Abbey Springs and I dont think Bittners will be receiving any recommendations from this side of the lake thats for sure. This was pretty embarassing to say the least. How could a bakery mess up a big order like sweets for a wedding? So we talk to the owner and she was very sympathetic, but that really didnt do much for us after the fact. She started by offering a refund on the sweets. UMMM you think we should get a refund on the sweets we did NOT receive? I honestly felt like we should have received a FULL refund for their complete incompetence. After we said really thats it, they took a little more off the bill. We dont care about the money, we will have ONE Wedding day in our lives and this made an aspect of it very negative. BE VERY careful if you use this bakery for your wedding or any special event in our lives. Also, they did seem a little overwhelmed each time we went in there to review the pieces for our wedding, which should have been a red flag for us. read more

So Disappointed by our wedding cake and dessert tower. They almost landed my sister in the HOSPITAL due to a food allergy! Our experience was so great until the day of our wedding when we were shocked to see that NONE of what we ordered was actually delivered. The cake was supposed to be marble with a nebula airbrushed onto it. It was white with a very simple swirl on the side that didn't even match our wedding colors and the top was just some peacock rice wafers thrown on (I ordered them special so they could decorate the pinafores). The cake topper was correct (I also ordered it and had it delivered before hand). As for the dessert tower the "lemon" cakes had strawberries in them which we didn't know until my sister bit into one and started having a sever allergic reaction. She almost had to use her epi pen, but thankfully our venue had some less extreme medication on hand that worked but put her out for the rest of the reception. Needless to say nearly calling an ambulance for my sister is not the wedding memory I wanted to make. While the food was delicious it was NOT what we ordered and paid for. If you don't care what you get as long as it tastes good then you should be fine but if you have a particular thing you need DO NOT HIRE THEM. read more

BITTNERS is back......kinda....don't count on quality cakes if you custom order them....they didn't remotely make the simple coconut "diner cake".... Instead, they smashed some brown toasted coconut onto it and put buttercream piping on top.....YUK!
