Wanted something- well, simple- and somewhat healthy after staying in Lake Geneva area for a couple days. The lunch items were around $16. We got the Simple Chopped Chicken Salad with quinoa, green onions, cucumber, grapes, romaine, bleu cheese, asparagus, and sugar snap. We also got the tofu curry. The tofu wasn't crispy but it had snap peas and cashews added the crunch. The service and atmosphere were also nice. The food and bill came out quickly. Not a ton of lunch options. Do yourself a favor and order two queen aman pastries! Oh my word! Probably in my top 5 pastries ever. Crunchy, gooey, buttery croissant with caramelized sugar and salt. It's hipper than Vickie's Cafe (just across the street), but 2x the cost, and the patio doesn't justify such because during most of the off-season there's only 'indoor' seating being offered (and there's just not enough tables). Also, the lack of this interior design's sound absorption panels (nonesuch are in the ceiling as is normal for empty concrete floors and undecorated walls), and is horrendous. IT'S SO ANNOYINGLY LOUD that an LG-vacation-good-providing-poppa has to turn down his hearing aid to avoid cacophonous feedback noise, and even then he can't hear his grandkids talking. SAW THIS HAPPEN YEAR-AFTER-YEAR. Bad ambient echoing noises aside, the place is being set-up by hiring cheap, min-wage, inexperienced teens and mostly struggling immigrants. It's also SLOWLY FALLING IN TO DISREPAIR (see photos). Food is fine, but only egg, flour, onion, pork back fat, and gobs of cheese mostly (and bit-o-veg, but unintentionally uninteresting farm-fresh-local produce for generic breakfast faire)... p Plus, the bakery (outside of true European boulangeries, Simple Bakery is mostly sugar, processed seed oil fats (not butter, tallow, or olive), and non-organic, GMO grains, with inexpensive flour/yeast combos and ¢80 ingredients with a HUGE $8 price tag (why not $3-4?). I was craving something sweet and carb-y so landed at this little gem just before closing. Success! They had giant cinnamon rolls. But since they were about to closed they gave me a second one on the house! They were so large, I thought I'd eat half but it was so soft and lovely than I inhaled the whole thing in one sitting. We had breakfast next-door and then went into the bakery to get some items to go. We got several pastries and a loaf of bread. By 11:30 on a Sunday morning the choices were limited, however. They had lots of people working so the wait wasn't very long. I selected something that's made with croissant dough but in a muffin cup and has a kind of syrup shell on top. I didn't eat it until Monday and it was incredible. I will definitely go back next time. I am in Lake Geneva. read more

At first entry, I looked around and started taking pictures like I usually do on Yelp. No hello or welcome in greetings from the workers, all I got was a serious question of what are you taking pictures of??? This bakery is run by the same company as the Simple Restaurant next door. I have ordered three birthday cakes from them over a period of two years, and all have been excellent. For 2026, my husband wanted something different from our usual decadent chocolate cake with chocolate or fudge icing, so I chose a Carrot Cake with Brown Butter Icing with blue "Happy Birthday" and blue stars. Wow, this cake is good! The batter is rich and rather dense, the spicing is good, and neither the cake nor the icing is overly sweet. We both approve. At the Simple Bakery, everything is made from scratch. It features a selection of fresh breads daily, including French baguettes. The glass case is full of delicacies to drool over. Surrounding shelves are lined with locally-made jams, jellies, and yummy snacks. Specialty round cakes come in two sizes, may be ordered with a few days' notice, and come with special writing, designs, or fresh fruit in season for a few dollars extra. Their prices are more reasonable than other local bakeries. They do get busy, and instructions are sometimes difficult to hear when taking them via phone. If there's a question about your order, the friendly and helpful staff will call you back. This place is a keeper! Honestly, I had high hopes for this place since the Cafe next door was excellent! The service here was HORRIBLE! My husband and I were taking pictures of their sweet treats and their decor. It was cute and inviting until we were asked, in a very rude manner, why we were taking pictures. I think it's a very valid question, but the accusatory tone was a turn-off. I was about to tell my husband and parents that we should leave, but I wanted to try the desserts that the gals from the cafe raved about. In retrospect, we should've just left. We ordered the chocolate flourless cupcakes, a kouign amann, and a chocolate walnut cookie. The cupcakes were tasty, and so was the cookie. The kouign amann was lacking, and it was hard! I don't trash businesses on Yelp. But the rudeness was ridiculous! They probably would've gotten a higher rating even for mediocre service. But, the ladies were just plain rude! Prices are absolutely outrageous for a "bakery" that outsources most of its products - not made in house... I paid $3 for one cookie! I asked why their prices went up so much. I was told tariffs. I asked if they bought their wheat from China. I was told they get their "bags from Canada and it's not on them". Um, tariffs have been announced, not applied to bags already in the US. Great spot! I love the variety of breads they have. They also carry Skordalia, buy it!!! You will get addicted to this almond spread, I promise. Also, I want to recommend Simple's focaccia...I've had the traditional and many specialty flavors, all are exceptional. If you love breakfast made with farm to table ingredients with a side of hippie creativity, this is a place you will enjoy. The ginger turmeric tea is delightful. Coffee is good as well. We've never had a bad meal here. The bakery next-door is definitely a visit to get a treat to go home with. My favorite is the turkey, Brussel, sprout, sweet potato hash . Pancakes are delicious and so is everything we've ever tried on the menu which is quite a bit. Be sure to park in the parking lot so you don't have to pay to eat. Bakery review: Found this on Yelp during our day trip to LG. It was the only place that came up when I searched for bakeries! We didn't come too early in the morning, and there were still plenty of goodies left. You could also purchase coffee. We settled on the almond croissant and the oatmeal raisin cookie. The almond croissant was flaky, crispy in the right places, and had a delightful filling. The oatmeal raisin cookie was soft, chewy, sweet, but not overly so. Very fresh and tasty pastries. Ive had the chocolate croissant twice now recently and both times it has been very good. It is flaky, buttery, and soft, but I just wish there was a little more chocolate filling. The service is quick and the staff is friendly. The prices are a little expensive but these are gourmet treats and you get what you pay for! I think I'd like to try the almond croissant the next time I go because it looks so good. This bakery is just a couple of blocks down from the main strip in Lake Geneva. It has two entrances, one of which I assumed was the restaurant and another for the bakery. Walking in, we were greeted warmly and treated to a case filled with a few things. There were some cakes, a few different kinds of cupcakes a frosted cookie, pastries and lots and lots of bread. In one area of the store were jars of specialty sauces, dressings and other items like this. There is a board listing different drinks and items you can order. We ended up with a peanut butter cupcake and an almond croissant. The cupcake was bursting with flavor, although for $3, it was a bit small in size compared to other cupcakes from other bakeries. The almond pastry, on the other hand, was very large and soft. Their prices were a bit high on the dessert items. If in town again, might try another bakery. read more
