First time at Lorena's and it certainly will not be the last! Food: 5/5. Delicious! We tried a few tacos, grilled hot dog, esquites, horchata, and churros. Each of the tacos was absolutely amazing! The green sauce is really good and not too spicy. The esquites was a little different than I'm used to and was a little more soupy, but also delicious! Horchata is horchata (one of my favorite drinks). Something I really need to talk about are the churros. I consider myself a churro connoisseur at this point, having had hundreds at sporting events, Disneyland, and other festivities. These churros were some of THE BEST CHURROS I have ever had! Service: 5/5. Lorena was very nice and had our order out relatively quickly for all the food we ordered! Great service! Atmosphere: 4/5. The location is interesting and tucked back away from the road. Can be hard to find. The tented area is a great place to sit and you kind of forget you are in a parking lot along a busy road. Lorenas as was a mixed bag for me for a very specific reason. First, I have lived less than a half mile away, saw it was here on the map, but for the life of me, couldn't picture where it was. Address in the GPS, pulling up, it was a "Oh crap, how have I never noticed this?" Easy, its sort of behind Jacks, on the back end of the car dealers overflow lot! You, like I, will wonder if they take cards or if it's cash only, they definitely take cards. The means variety is on par with my favorite little taco shops. I chose the #1 Special with one each chicken, carnita and chorizo street taco with rice and beans. For drinks they have everything I ask for to qualify as authentic Mexican and believe it of not, I passed on the Horchata for once and ordered a Mandrian Jarritilos Mexican orange soda. My first bite of the chicken taco, yep, that's good! Next up was chorizo and a bit of a surprise, maybe a mix of chorizo and potato, or maybe a vegetable I am unfamiliar with. Not wrong, if anything possibly more authentic than I'd encountered. Finally the carnits, good if a little dry, nothing the included salsa didn't help with. Both the red and green sauces were as expected. Now we get into the part I didn't love, the beans, a very small serving with the distinct flavor of powdered milk. I despise powdered milk and when you do, the flavor just sorta leaps out at you. Again, I can see how in huge swaths of Mexico if you didn't own a cow, you might use powdered milk for everything. There was rice but after the beans, I don't really remember it. The eternal question, would I return? My initial reaction was sure, I just wouldn't order a combo that included beans, but then I started thinking about how many thing might have those beans, so probably not. I suspect I'd do nothing but search for the of putting flavor of powdered milk, so why bother? There are too many places nearby to go to a place for tacos and horchata... and I really enjoy good beans! Of course if the taste of powdered or nonfat mike isn't an issue for you, you might love the place. read more

Lorena's is legit. A recent YouTube video of her recently caught my attention. A group of foodies were sitting in the patio trying to pronounce Arrachera and Birria. They failed miserably in the pronunciation but triumphed in demolishing their tacos. Lorena's has been a number of spots in Boise and the current residency is next to the Jack in the Box on Fairview. It's a taco stand with some tables and enclosed patio area. There are signs everywhere about what's on the menu and what are the specials. There are some very notable offerings like Huaraches that are not offered in many taco stands locally. If you are vegetarian or vegan, the beans are made with lard. This is very typical in Mexico and there are a verity of reasons why lard is used in lieu of vegetable oil. Suffice it to say for me, I was relegated to chips and salsa. NOTE: While I could have possible created a Torta minus meat and other items I didn't want to disrupt Lorena's business. My daughter ordered a Barbacoa burrito that was immense. A resounding success locating such tacos made with a mother's love and care. Just like being in my Mexican home. Al pastor Birria Carnitas Barbacoa One taco was a bit salty, but it could have been the picante salsa. Two tortillas for each taco and they were a good size. Lorena's is a food truck with lots of menu choices. I've had a hard time finding delicious tamales that weren't dried out from overcooking... until I found Lorena's. I got the 2 tamales with rice and beans special for $10.50. Excellent food I must say! My dad's family is Mexican and came to America in the 1920's. I was raised on this food generationally. It was customary to make delicious, flavorful food without spicy heat, but instead to make salsas with varying degrees of heat. I remember seeing my grandmother and great grandmother with different colors of chilis on their counters. They would warn me not to touch, but as a 3 yr old I couldn't resist... and wow did I learn a lesson that day! Anyhow, the homemade chili salsas would sit on the table in bowls for family to add to the dishes. I didn't add until I grew up. Now I like a bit of heat.... Lorena's is like that. Everything!!! The food was disgusting!!!! No flavor whatsoever no seasoning and way too expensive for hardly any food. This may seem authentic to most people but I can tell you this is not great Mexican cuisine. I got very sick after eating the rice and beans which were watered down and no flavor and eating the carne asada the onions tasted awful. Never again will I eat at Lorena's not worth the money. Another great Mexican food option in Boise that doesn't involve a bell. I ordered a carnitas gordita, pork goodness encased in a fried corn masa shell. It came highly recommended and Lorena, who pats her own masa for the gorditas and tamales, didn't disappoint. It was delicious. She also gave me a small cup of watermelon agua fresca to drink. It was also very good. It can be confusing to find Lorena's, unless you consider her food kiosk part of Mister Car Wash. Drive in like you are going to get your car wash and you'll see it on the left as you pull in. Lorena, who is very friendly, must work very hard. Her place is open seven days a week. read more

Gluten free options, plenty of parking, plenty of seating options- & the sweetest owner around- oh & the food is yummy! I ordered a nacho salad, & was given a lovely to go setup to take to my job. Sauces, napkins & fork were included. The owners are super friendly but the amazing food is why we go! You will not be disappointed! Oh and what makes this place even better is that the food is consistently good! I don't see anywhere here that anyone has posted the fact that Lorena moved in about June-2016 and is no longer located at the Mr. Car Wash. The address on this review is correct, however, 9110 W. Fairview, Boise. The new location is west on Fairview just past Maple Grove. Same side as Bronco Motors Car Dealer, between them and the Jack in the Box on the corner. She moved her Kitchen and built a very pleasant patio. Much nicer than the waiting area at the car wash. Same great food, just a new location. Winter hours in effect now, so she is closed on Sundays. read more

A hidden gem if you are craving for some authentic home cooking style mexican food. The presentation of the food may not be the greatest, but the taste is definitely going to make you happy. If you quickly scan the menu, you will find they actually serve some real Mexican dishes that are uncommon in other Mexican food places, such as tamales. Visited there twice already and tried a few tacos and emchiladas. Everything was darn good, especially after you add on those homemade salsas, it's just hard for you to stop eating. The service was fast and the owner auntie was extremely warm and welcoming. Would want more fillings on the taco (sorry got so spoilled by tex-mex portion sizes), but I really can't ask for more for the price. Will come back and explore all the menu items one day. read more

Elotes...so good, but I can't pass up a good ear of corn slathered in mayo/sour cream, cotija cheese and chili powder! So friendly, family owned, covered patio dining. Don't miss this place! The burritos are huge but mine wasn't really filled. The meat in the burrito wasn't all that good. My tacos were ok, the Asada taco had good flavor and the chorizo was good. Not as much chorizo flavor came out but overall it was good for the price. When I walked up the lady was really nice and helped me get my food to go. The service was quick and painless through the crazy weather we had. That's another story and too much to type. The grilled jalapeños were freaking hot! It had awesome flavors and went really well with the food, I think that's what made the taste all that much better. read more

Lorena's has the best Mexican food in Boise! Located on Maple Grove and Fairview next to the Jack in the Box. Not only is it delicious, but Lorena is one of the nicest ladies I have ever met! Seriously, so nice! My buddy first brought me here when her stand was located at the Mister Carwash on Fairview and Curtis. Started with some damn good delicious chicken tacos and gorditas. We went on a Saturday and discovered she makes pozole on the weekends. According to the most trusted source out there, Wikipedia, pozole is a traditional hominy soup or stew from Mexico, that at one point had ritual significance and is now served as a celebratory dish. I asked Lorena about it, and she informed me that it was great for a hangover. She dished up a bowl and let me try it for no charge! I then started bringing my wife, who used to say that Imelda's was the best Mexican in town..she doesn't say that anymore. We go every now and again. Over time, I have found a fondness for the adobada tacos (spiced pork), as well as the chicken. All of her food is quite good. Her tamales are great, stuffed dobladas, which are sort of a pan fried taco, the burritos. All excellent! My wife loves her gorditas, and she always gets a couple of those. I love going to this tasty little joint. Lorena makes some amazing food in the little space that she has, and can only imagine what she could do in her own little restaurant. This spot HITS. I had an Asada burrito and added sour cream, pico and salsa. The tortilla was fresh and cooked just right. The asada was incredibly tender. We also got a Torta, which was also incredible. I am at awe with the amazing quality of the food and the prices of this place. The lady (Lorena?) does it all by herself and was also super super nice! I had been wanting to try this place for awhile. I have been searching high and low for a 1/2 decent taco joint. Yes, I would have been completely satisfied with half decent! This place is great! I haven't had a chance to try all their menu items, just the tacos so far. The tortillas are great, nicely presented, and my favorite so far, the pastor, has a ridiculous amount of flavor.
