    Shave ice
    Kayla S.

My parents have been visiting the iconic Lorraine for many years, and I finally got to experience Lorraine Shave Ice today. Come for the shave ice, stay for the view and the enjoyable visit with Lorraine. She is witty and dry in all the best ways and seemed in no hurry for us to get on our way. We got to learn about her life, see the incredible views from her property and meet her husband. The road from Lahaina is only treacherous for the last couple miles, but she talked us into heading back to the airport going east and it was a beautiful, albeit narrow, road.

Rude owner, they charge you to $2 to use the bathroom. Bad words written on the table. Mediocre shaved ice. Would skip. Pretty decent view.

If you survived the drive Into the town after white knuckling it along the way, do yourself a favor and stop in to Lorraine's. It's tucked down a drive way and well worth the stop. First, I hope you have cash on you. It's cash only and you don't want to miss out. The shave ice is so light and fluffy. Lorraine's is atop a small cliff with the most beautiful view to enjoy the shave ice. She even sat with us and talked story for a bit. So glad we made the stop.

We stopped at Lorraine's Shaved Ice and Banana Bread, and wow -- Lorraine was absolutely AMAZING. From the moment we arrived, she had us laughing and smiling. She confidently told us, "You haven't had shaved ice until you've had Lorraine's shaved ice." She was 100% right. Not only was the shaved ice incredible (perfect texture, incredible flavor), but the experience itself was unforgettable. Lorraine gave us a hug, showed us these super cool little weeds that retract when you touch them, and even pointed out a rock above us that looks like a smiling alligator -- which somehow made the whole moment even more magical. And the banana bread... oh my goodness. Off-the-charts amazing. It didn't even survive the walk back to our condo -- completely gone before we made it home. That's how good it was. This wasn't just a snack stop -- it was a full Maui memory. Lorraine is funny, kind, welcoming, and truly one of those people who makes your trip feel special. If you're on Maui and thinking about stopping here -- do it. You'll leave full, happy, and smiling.

Lorraine thank you for your hospitality & kindness. We had her incredible toasted coconut "crack" and wish we bought more!! The banana bread was excellent, we had the walnut & also the chocolate chip, highly recommend. This small town is stunning and Lorraine has a great view to sit and enjoy your snacks. Can't wait to return when we're back in Maui. Mahalo

Banana bread - walnut. She bakes about 12 loaves a day JFYI!

Banana Bread rating only! Comparatively, it wasn't my favorite. HOWEVER. Lorraine was so kind and sweet and offered her back deck with a gorgeous view to enjoy the banana bread. It seems like the shave ice is for sure the main attraction here so would recommend opting for that!

We popped in on a muggy rainy day and were welcomed by a lovely woman who invited us in. We didn't get the shaved ice, but we had her freshly baked banana bread. And when I say fresh, I mean it was still warm from the oven. She also had freshly toasted coconut and my mouth is still watering from it.

Get a Lorraine's special and go enjoy the view. Such a memorable stop in our vacation. She is a gem.

November 2023 visit at Lorraine Shave Ice Maui!
    Vicki P.

We never go to Maui without a stop here. The drive from Lahaina area is beautiful. And this place is not just shaved ice, it's Lorraine, it's Aloha, it's a friendship after first visit, it's a memory not to miss. Trip to Maui 11/2023 and thrilled to find Lorraine Shave ice still open! For a full Lorraine experience, order your pie at least the day before and bring your own cooler and ice. She will sell you a cooler bag if needed. We brought our own and filled a gallon bag with ice from hotel. She will not let you bring home a pie without it. We always look forward to her Banana Cream pie but her banana trees were damaged in a wind storm. Local friends supply her with bananas but degree of ripeness varies. So instead we tried Lilikoi (passion fruit) pie, it was good but also very sweet. In addition to buying pie and shave ice, we always buy her toasted shaved coconut chips, always tasty. Today's visit payment said cash only.

On our trip to Maui, we had a full day to ourselves before meeting up with some friends. One of our friends recommended Lorraine's and glad we stopped by. Shave Ice heaven especially if you go to the backyard (back porch) and check out the scenery! Lorraine's down to earth attitude was also met with fierce sarcastic humor that made us feel so comfortable. I placed my order and she said "You no get to pick. I get to pick. You just stand there." hahaha. All I told her was I love guava and she incorporated it into a lovely shave ice I will never forget. We chatted with a few people outside and exchanged stories. Lorraine came out and cracked open a lilikoi and we are it fresh off the vine! Mahalo for everything Lorraine! Wish you all the best and looking forward to coming here on our next trip to Maui!

Stopped in here while driving by. If you need a break from the winding road, stop in and get your Shave Ice from Lorraine! Lorraine met us and immediately took our order. Lorraine has an amazing sense of humor and she'll have you laughing with her witty sense of humor. You can enjoy your shave ice in her back yard that has one heck of a view. There are tables to sit at.... Just don't put your butt on the table.... You've been warned, lol. There's a sign on the fence that says. YES, we are open.... Pull into the driveway and park your car.... Lorraine will come out to greet you with a smile.

Lorraine is a fun women who welcomes passersby's with whit and great shave ice. She says Lorraine is an awful woman's with a twinkle in her eye. She'll sho you the landscape behind her ship which is beautiful and make you the fluffiest shave ice around. And of course pick up some banana bread before it's gone. She's a lovely hostess with a friendly cat to boot. Her shop is a destination and an oasis on a in lane road with 2 way traffic. She'll give you advice on how to get around the west loop of Maui via car or bike. Just remember she's not open or home on Wednesday.

The Char-Latte comes with in-house made dark salted caramel topped with a hit of local lava salt and is available hot or iced. Their iced version isn't your typical ice cube kind, but rather it's made with finely shaved ice from, you guessed it, Ululani's. Now, while I love Ululani's shave ice, I am not a big fan of using shave ice ice in my coffee. The ice melts way too fast and doesn't keep my drink cool for very long. Hence, the four stars. Regular ice cubes or even coffee ice cubes would be better, but it does the job and it's cheaper than other places at just under $6. They've improved quite a bit compared to when they first opened this location after having to close their Kihei shop for a while. I've watched as they quite literally were figuring things out as they went with the makings of the coffee, but they seem to have a better handle on everything now. If you want a bite to eat, they offer a handful of their greatest hits of baked goods like their banana and mango breads, scones, filled malasadas, cookies, and musubis. I recommend their filled malasadas (ube + lilikoi) and their mango/banana bread. Those are winners for sure.

Croissant breakfast sandwich & mortadella sandwich were good. The main disappointment was the salmon toast. It looked beautiful and was a large portion, but the two extra poached eggs I ordered were completely hard-poached. When I brought this up, the woman behind the counter flippantly told me, "Yes, this is how we make them." Poached eggs should ALWAYS have a runny yolk & I didn't believe her answer for a second. Clearly they made a mistake they did not want to own up to. I was highly disappointed by her attitude, especially since I paid extra for the eggs.
