Honestly, I think that this place has a higher ratings just because many people will come here super hungry after the night of drinking. And as saying in my home country says "hlad je nejlepší kuchař" which can be translated to something like "hunger is the best cook". Both - my boyfriend and I had uneasy stomach after eating here last night and my BF is Mexican so if he can handle real Mexican street food, not anything can take him down. I also can eat and combine pretty much anything and normally I never have issues... Anyway, the tastes of the food wasn't bad but it definitely also wasn't so good that I would want to come back. I was especially disappointed with their greasy chips. Yuck. However, guacamole was decent and fresh. Frijoles were too salty but rice well seasoned. I was pleased to find horchata on their menu (my favorite Mexican non alcoholic beverage) but it was way too sweet so I needed to water it down to make it drinkable. I used to frequent Jaimito's and while I loved their chips and salsa, Los 3 Panchos is superior overall. They have much more options, they are cheaper, and their food is fresher and tastier. I got the pepper steak torta and boy was this satisfying. First off, it was huge, bread was nice and soft, and the steak was great - all for $5! I also tried the al pastor tacos with cilantro and onion only and this was good too. I also enjoyed their salsa verde but found their salsa rojo to be lacking. Service was great and I enjoyed that they had an NBA game on their TV. To note, I came here sober for a regular dinner. I will definitely be back. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by Los 3 Panchos! We came here on a whim after beermiscious and I shared a flautas dinner which came with 3 crispy flautas under a bed of lettuce, tomato and sour cream. The dinner came with rice and beans as well. The second time, i got a steak quesadilla dinner which has lettuce and tomato IN THE QUESADILLA!!! Tres ponchos is a gem in the neighborhood. They have great corn tortilla tacos, very classic but delicious. I really like the pepper steak tacos, definitely worth the extra 25 cents. The best thing on the menu is definitely the fajita burrito. It's a burrito with roasted green pepper, onion and lots of cheese. It's truly incredible and my life is better for experiencing it. You need to eat it with a fork and knife, the tortilla usually falls apart. The beans are solid, not incredible. Rice is so-so. read more

I used to live in the apartment building above this place. As such, I've probably been there more than any other dining establishment in the city. Just about any time I came home late or wasn't in the mood to make dinner, Los Tres Panchos came to the rescue. I likely ate here at least once a week for two years. I realized shortly before I moved out that may not have been the best decision. All things considered, the food is better than most cheap Mexican places. But being a slight standout in a sea of mediocre taco purveyors isn't a badge of honor any restaurant really wants. I walked past this place numerous times a day and there's something to be said for the fact that from 12pm to 10pm Los Tres Panchos would get half the business it would in the single hour after the bars closed. To put it bluntly, it's food for drunk people. So it's one of the better late night Mexican places, I will certainty give it that. The staff is friendly, and was so even before I had been there dozens of times. However the seating is limited and the place is so small the line is literally out the door during late nights. I've been there so much I feel an odd allegiance to Tony and the place he runs. That said, I wish after all those years he would've sworn the same allegiance to being kind to my digestive system. Like a sexy man-moth to an empanada scented flame I am drawn inexorably toward the counter, lost in a wave of drunk-hunger (which, as we all know, is irresistible and all-encompassing, blotting out thoughts of falling down, sexing up, and pretty much anything save consuming 3,868 calories worth of hot grease). With no thought for my piggybacker's knees I will march directly into the door, pushing it open with my face, small flecks of spittle collecting at the corners of my grinning, hungry mouth. Now, I know what you're thinking. "I don't trust this guy's opinion on the quality of Los Tres Panchos' fine Mexican food because he's an alcoholic." Well guess what, person I just made up? I DO NOT CARE WHAT YOU THINK. YOU ARE NOT THE BOSS OF ME. For the casual inebriate 'round about 2:35am, Los Tres Panchos tastes like the golden light of Heaven caught in an ear of corn and then mashed and ground upon the heavy stone of Deliciousness into a tortilla of pure Love, which is then tenderly filled with succulent bits of pepper steak and refried Hope, sprinkled liberally with cheese and Salvation and served to you by an angel disguised as the chatty and amusing owner of the establishment. His infinite patience with the neverending hordes of staggering shitfacery that make their way through the door after hours is proof positive of his celestial origins. When I wake up in the morning with my contact lenses stuck to my eyelids, I often find the hands I wish to use to rub them back into place are still full of a small but delectable half-burrito or maybe knuckle deep in a pile of refried beans. Tiny strings of cheese cling to my hair and tie, reminders of my all too brief foray into the divine, a sign that I am safe. I will live to drink another day. Thank you, Los 3 Panchos. Sometimes I just need a breakfast burrito in the middle of the day. It's eggs, lettuce, beans, cheese, tomatoes, and it's gooood. The best thing? Glass bottle of Jarritos and all of the flavors. I'm partial to lime. Man, that just makes my day and their green chili salsa is great. For extra heat they will stop what they are doing and cut up a jalapeño on the spot and add it to you salsa. That is precisely what happened when I discovered Los 3. My bf and I scarfed down our Al Pastor and Carne tacos in about 10 minutes since we were on a time constraint. I had the Carne, while he had the Al Pastor. The Carne were good, but lacked in flavor. I liked the Al Pastor ones better, so I will definitely get those next time I am in the area. I also had the rice and beans, but again were a little bland. I'll probably pass on those next time, too. I noticed their hours, and they are open super late both week nights and weekends, so they are obviously a place to end up at after a night at the bars. I suppose that's something to keep in mind, especially if you have a late night on Diversey! Even though the food was mediocre in my opinion, the thing I really liked about Los 3 is the service. When the inebriated crowd stumbles in looking for something to soak up all the booze in their stomach? Burritos are always a bad decision, just because they're mostly bad for you. But they're sooo delicious and the burritos at Los 3 Panchos were pretty darn good. I always order veggie burritos (I don't know - I just prefer veggies in my tortillas even though I'm not a vegetarian) and it's pretty hard to make them poorly. The burrito here was good, my only problem was that there was just too much refried bean. I thought it was just a little too soggy with refried bean, so I wasn't that satisfied. Based on several experiences, the food would get 3 stars, but one crowded night in Los tres Panchos I got probably the worst service ever. I coherently told the man behind the counter that I would like " a steak burrito with only cheese, salsa and sour cream. NO LETTUCE" (I usually sneak in a Spanish word and pretend I am a native. I never fool them) He asked "is that for here or to go?" Well Sparky, considering there are no available tables & the creep behind me has no choice but to rub his junk on me, I think I'll take it to go unless you have VIP in the back... Anywho, I finally get my order, and I opened it up in hopes to snag a delicious chomp, but instead I bit directly into that mound of lettuce I mentioned earlier! And GET THIS, they didn't put any salsa on it!!!! I mean I guess, lettuce and salsa sound the same so they could easily confuse the two?? WAIT- no they don't. Needless to say I was disheartened! This Mexican food is as authentic as you can get in Chicago...the carne asada and carnitas tacos remind me of the street food in Mexico City. The service is good and fast. I believe we've ordered burritos, quesadillas, and tacos so far with different kinds of meat. They were all really good, but we especially liked the pork and lengua. Los 3 Panchos, which is property pronounced, "Los Tres Panchos," does have a way bigger menu than the typical burrito place, including breakfast. And the dude running shit is pretty cool. I got some enchiladas. I don't know what it was, but they tasted downright strange. I ate the entire meal hoping I didn't get some sort of Special Sauce and wondering to myself what they could have cooked in the deep fryer before immersing my enchiladas in it that would make it taste like that. Eucalyptus branches maybe, or possibly a mini-giraffe. Definitely a mini-giraffe. The clientele weirded me out too. There must have been a Star Wars convention that just let out or something, because I felt like I was at a Magic the Gathering tournament. Star Wars Kid ordering as I left: "Is your guac fresh?" But nonetheless I have a thing for carne asada tacos and came in here on a whim looking for lunch... only to discover the best carne asada tacos I've ever eaten, hands down. I got them without cream and sauce and still the flavor was blow-your-mind amazing. A load of cheese, a good amount of flavorful meat, and lettuce on warm and soft but durable tortillas hit the spot like no other. You've been dethroned, Tacos Chukis in Seattle. For a year I could look out my 2nd story window and see the Panchos sign hanging below me. During summer with my windows open the sweet smells of late night Mexican food would waft in, forcing me to rush down and place an order for a Super Burrito, Nachos Supreme or a Taco Dinner. I am honestly not sure if the food here is any better than your average Mexican joint, but it holds a special place in my heart (namely all the clogged arteries). The food is always delicious, even more so after a night of indulging around the corner at Delilah's. The service is exceptional, and very personable. I moved away and one of the employees asked one of my friends when he went there where I had been as he hadn't seen me. Upon my first return visit after moving and not having gone in months we had a wonderful, long conversation. The down side to any late night joint is the bar-closing crowd it may attract. I've noticed more and more loud, abrasive, and wholly out of place characters clogging up Panchos lately. Be prepared to fight through the crowds on weekends (and occasionally be challenged to a fight - yeah, I'm talking to you Michigan State guy, I couldn't even take you seriously). read more

As I have not visited prior to 12PM, I have little to say about what this place is like in the day time, but there have been lines out the door in the past.
