The service was still incredible, and even though I had been craving their "Fancy Cowboy" (now on the menu!), I tried two of their newest specials, and they did not disappoint! I had the "Tropical Latte" and "White Rose Matcha." I also ordered a strawberry pastry that was deeeeelish! Can't wait to stop back by! Update: I visit this coffee shop every time I'm passing by as it isn't seen from freeway, but only 2 min off route If you exit the 101. I waited a few days before writing this because I wanted some distance from the interaction and a chance to think about it more objectively. I can see from the reviews that a lot of people have had really warm experiences with the owner here, so maybe we caught her on a bad day. Unfortunately, even after giving it some time, I still find the way the interaction unfolded unnecessarily uncomfortable and unprofessional. My boyfriend and I stopped in while driving south. Right as we walked in, I got a time-sensitive work email that I needed to deal with, so while my boyfriend was ordering I was mostly looking at my phone and responding to that. The owner started chatting with him and asked what we were doing that day. He told her we were driving to Los Angeles for a concert. She asked which concert and he momentarily blanked on how to describe it, so I looked up from my phone and said, "the Hollywood Bowl," then went back to my email. Apparently something about that bothered her, because she immediately responded, "Okay, sorry I asked," in a sarcastic, offended tone. We were both confused. My boyfriend actually repeated "the Hollywood Bowl" because he thought maybe she hadn't heard me correctly or there had been some misunderstanding. She didn't really respond, and a completely normal coffee order suddenly became incredibly awkward. I'll readily admit I was distracted and not particularly chatty. I probably wasn't radiating friendliness at that moment. But I also wasn't complaining, insulting anyone, being rude, making demands, or doing anything confrontational. I answered her question and went back to dealing with work. The interaction became uncomfortable enough that my boyfriend, who is extremely non-confrontational, finally said, "You know what, never mind, we're good," and decided not to buy the coffee. In all the time I've known him, I've genuinely never seen him walk away from a purchase because an interaction felt uncomfortable. Normally he would just finish the transaction and leave. The owner smiled at him and said, "I feel the same way about you. Have a nice day," in a tone that came across as exceptionally hostile. He looked at her in disbelief and said, "That was really rude." She replied, "I feel the same way about you." And we left. What bothered me wasn't that she may have thought I was being curt. She's entitled to think that. It was how reactive and unprofessional the response felt to something so minor. Customers aren't always going to walk into a coffee shop cheerful, talkative, and socially "on." Sometimes they're tired, stressed, distracted, shy, or simply not in the mood for conversation. That doesn't mean they deserve to be met with outright hostility. Maybe she really was just having a bad day. Given how many reviews specifically describe her as friendly, I can only assume this was an unusual moment for her. Even so, after giving it a few days and trying to look at the interaction more objectively, I still found her behavior unnecessarily hostile and unprofessional, and we wouldn't return. read more

If you are driving on the 101 and have the opportunity to stop here - do it! I usually go for a black drip, but the owner Ali convinced me to try the latte special by saying it was more savory than sweet. So glad I did bc it was super tasty and unique in the best way. It was made with smoked maple syrup (smoked across the street at union hotel!) and topped with smoked salt. Just enough sweetness to balance it out and balanced with a generous hit of espresso. I forget what else was in there and what it was called (smoked cowboy?? something like that!), but dam glad I went for it. The Cafe had a cozy room across the way for lounging, it sits on a cute, walkable street and folks there were kind and welcoming. Was staying across the street at the Victorian Mansion Bed & Breakfast and had the pleasure of visiting Los Alamos Coffee and Tea. Had an espresso and a lavender lemonade, both were delicious. The little coffee shop has a homey vibe, despite it being small, it has a table outside to enjoy your pastry or coffee. Be prepared to be greeted by the owner, whom is very welcoming and friendly. Owners are locals and are working towards adding more variety to their menu. I had the pleasure to visit the location during the Los Alamos yearly Old days, and have supported this locally owned coffee shop since then.
