I may not be the pickiest eater but my wife and I love this place! For me, it is more than just the taste but the service and experience. I think this place has some of the best servers ever. They are always so quick, polite, and energetic (for people's birthdays at least). It is always a big plus when they give you free chips and salsa which their salsa is delicious especially when i add some hot sauce to it. I have only had a few of the items on the menu but i have not been disappointed with any of them. They are huge portions and such a reasonable price. My wife and i can eat there for $20 easily (no drinks included) and we always take some of it home with us. I was surprised when i saw some of the negative reviews this place had on here so that is why i ended up writing a review because i really do like this place. There were 5 of us there for late lunch/early dinner on Monday, 8/28/23. My husband ordered the Hawaiian Fajitas, which is a combination of steak/chicken/shrimp. He SPECIFICALLY said 3 times NO SHRIMP. So meals come and, you guessed it, shrimp. So we called the waiter over and said, we asked for no shrimp. He apologized, took the plate. We expected at least a few minutes for them to cook a new order. But no, it was back in less than 2 minutes. They sat in the kitchen and picked out the shrimp. Except they didn't get it all. My husband didn't eat it. And we didn't take any leftovers home. Also, we had to ask our waiter for chips and salsa. We were never given refills on drinks. Not a good experience all the way around. I put a review on google while we were still at the restaurant with a photo of the shrimp we still found after they tried to get them, but it would have been better for them had they trashed it and just made us a new order. Barely edible food. This is not Mexican food. It is a midwest version of what some people think Mexican food is. The cheese sauce made me gag (and normally I love anything cheese related). The beef taco tasted like floor cleaner- I took just one bite. The guacamole salad was decent so I ate that with some chips and salsa. Service was friendly but left two people in our group of 5 without their meals for a while after everyone else was served...awkward. The most annoying part was this ukulele player and a guy with no regard for social cues comes up to the table and plays, while shoving a brochure in our faces (interrupting our convo) mumbling something about "give money to orphan kids" and then would NOT leave: he was glaring at each of us until finally two people in our group gave them a few dollars. I watched them do this to every table in the restaurant and even when a few business people where obviously looking over some documents and talking intensely, the guy interrupted them and the ukulele player stood right next to them playing loudly. Los Amigos is a wonderful family restaurant. The building itself is well decorated, clean, and comfortable. However, it is only when one steps behind the veneer of the restaurant that the magic truly happens. And yes, the magic is the food and drink. This establishment has delicious entrees, chips and salsa that come with every meal, and a variety of drinks. The staff, too, is wonderful. All of the times I've been here, whether picking up my food or dining in, I have had a wonderful experience. Kind, courteous, and charming, I believe Los Amigos has some of the best servers in Kalamazoo. If you want to know what to get, I would highly suggest the chicken chimichanga dinner. Worst Margarita I have had in my whole life. Went Fri night. Yes was happy hour. They were out of margarita glasses and served in tumblers. I really doubt even had any tequila in it. I'll start with the pros: Clean and affordable. That's about it. I was utterly unimpressed by both the food and service Los Amigos. I had lunch with a couple of friends and despite the fact that we were clear one would be late, our wait staff continually and with obviously increasing irritation asked if we wanted to order. The attitude definitely did NOT improve when our party finally arrived. When taking our orders said waiter was impatient with our questions and I swear almost bit my head off when I had the nerve to ask if they made any other than lemon margaritas. The food: substandard. I ordered the Speedy Gonzalez lunch with both rice and beans. Maybe I should have asked for the Take Your Time Gonzalez? If you DON'T want authentic beef tacos (translation: soft corn shell, shredded beef, fresh nonprocessed pre-shredded store bought cheese) come on over to Los Amigos! The chicken enchilada was decent but sadly distracted by the overcooked rice and watery beans. I'm willing to try this place again but . . . meh. read more

I have been a fan of Los Amigos for many years. They were my go-to Mexican restaurant. I ordered to-go, supporting one of my favorite local restaurants during the pandemic. I went in to pick it up and the guy behind the counter had his mask barely covering his mouth. His nose was completely out. I politely asked him to cover his nose and he said "it's annoying". I said I know it's annoying but it's helping to protect me. He said"no it's not, it's a scam, it's all about the government". At this point I had already paid and I said "I wish I hadn't paid already because I would leave" and he said "do you want me to void the charge" and I said yes please. He voided the charge, I took my card back and I said "I'm extremely disappointed, I come here all the time but I won't be back." I feel bad leaving a negative review during this pandemic because I know it's hard on a lot of businesses but if you can't even follow the simple rules of wearing a mask when you ask your patrons to do so, that is negligent and dangerous. read more

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Portage. They start you off with hot chips and fresh salsa. I recommend going around lunchtime for the lunch specials; they are priced well. Not cheap, but priced accordingly. I love this place but took off a star because the food is not always consistent and staff are not always attentive. Sometimes all is amazing, and sometimes the entrees have little meat and our waiter has disappeared. The one thing that is consistent (besides the chips and salsa) is that the food is always served very quickly. I recommend the burrito special, arroz con pollo, and the fajitas amigos! read more

Had a soft beef burrito, I was very disappointed, it was flavorless. And when you come to a Mexican restaurant you want flavor. The beef was not real, or fresh, it tasted like the meat they serve in school cafeterias. The burrito came with just meat and cheese, no other garnishings, like lettuce, tomatoes, beans, etc. Maybe it was the item I ordered but all the food on the menu should be to par not just certain items. The wait wasn't that long, but not all the plates came out at the same time so , people at my table were conflicted to eat there food or wait for everyone to get there food. The chips and salsa were good the people that worked the raved about how they were homemade. Customer service was good. But the food I ordered made me not want to go back again. This Los Amigos recently opened at this location. The place has a great decor! It is clean and new as it gets. The food is served FAST. We we here for lunch and were seated immediately. The salsa and chips were right there. The drinks were sold in FROSTY beer mugs and COLD beer. Our order was taken and served in a matter of minutes. The cold stuff was cold and the stuff that was hot was HOT. It was all fresh and good. It was as good as you can get in this area. THe wait staff was always there when you needed them. As others were filing in for lunch they also received the same speedy service. THis is the best fastest service you can get. If you have a lunch hour this is the place to go. read more

I usually have a good meal here, however today I ordered the burrito Mexicano. It is suppose to have shredded pork, but today it was mostly pork fat. When the server asked how my meal was, I showed him all the fat that I had pulled out of the burrito. All he said was sorry. It's just a scoop of ice cream rolled in corn flakes and then placed in a tortilla shell covered with whipped cream and sprinkles. Sad to say... it was disgusting. Went today for a small party of about 12 people. The host had called ahead, but they somehow lost our reservation and we had to wait 30 minutes to get our table in the small private room. Someone came in with a large tray of cups full of ice and then spilled about half of them on the floor. Then he served the glasses of ice by putting his index finger inside each glass. Super gross. The ice was never cleaned up and left to melt on the floor so it was wet and slippery for the rest of our stay as we shuffled presents and cake. They were out of shredded cheese, which meant much of the menu wasn't available. (We weren't told until after we started ordering so many had to make a last minute change). We weren't allowed to order drinks until our food order had been put in. Several people ordered margaritas or coronas, but it later turned out that they were also out of limes. Our sodas had no carbonation (guess they were out) and the ice was pretty melted (guess they were out of that too?). The food wasn't bad. It was fast and hot like it usually is. Ate here several months ago, wasn't great but didn't write a review - thought I'd give them a second chance. Well, the second chance was only marginally better. My first indication that it wasn't going to be great was no wait on a Saturday night - place was less than half full at 7:30 pm. Service was mediocre to poor. Waitress was okay, but you have to pay at the register and we had to wait a LONG time for someone to take our money. my husband and I went there last Saturday around 7 pm for dinner ( it wasn't busy by any means) to get their steak queso dip and share an entree. The dip is always amazing but when we got our entree the man who brought it out asked if we wanted an extra plate and we said yes. He never came back so we ate off the plate they brought us. That's not even the complaint part. The lady who was serving us brings my husband his water and just puts it on the table as she's walking by. Never once was friendly or asked how our meal was. The food part..... we got the Taco, enchilada and burrito combo and all the meat tastedlike it had been cooked and put through a food processor. It was gritty and overall bad. It was the texture of how I imagine dog or cat food to be. The enchilada and burrito were exactly the same only a slight size difference. It really was disappointing. We never got any refills, my order was wrong and we waited 15 min just for our server to come back and tell him it wasn't right. Delicious food, not too hot for this northern gal. Watch out for the Margaritas since they make them strong here. One small margarita and I've been buzzed for almost an hour. I know I'm a lightweight when it comes to drinks, but I've never had ONE single drink (my limit) get me buzzed before! If you want real authentic Mexican, try Mi Pueblo on Gull Road, Nina's in Augusta or Battle Creek, or Juanita's in a slightly scary neighborhood on South Burdick. If you want "mall Mexican" try Don Pablo's in BC or Qdoba. I haven't been to the one on Stadium, but after my meal at the Westnedge location, I won't bother.
