A group of 7 of us stopped in to Los Amigos on a Saturday night around 6 pm and were seated right away. This location is a former Big Boy and honestly, the interior still kind of seems like nothing has been changed. Don't let that deter you, though - I thought this place was really good. I was a little wary of the reviews but I was distracted by the chips and salsa and the HUGE menu as soon as we sat down. Did I mention the menu is huge? I had planned on taking photos since I didn't see many online, but I honestly couldn't because it was so big. They have pretty much everything you can think of, so anyone who likes Mexican food will find something to order. It was nice to have a variety to choose from but give yourself time if you're indecisive! They also have alcohol options so definitely check out their margaritas if you're in the mood for those. I got the enchiladas rancheras, which is three cheese enchiladas smothered in tomatoes, sauteed peppers and onions, and pulled pork. It comes with guacamole, sour cream, rice, and refried beans. Other people in our group ordered burritos and tacos. Our server seemed a little confused on some of the items (she asked one person if they wanted American or Mexican tacos, but not another), but everything came out correctly. The food was delivered in a timely manner and everything was super hot. My plate was enormous - definitely splittable between two people. The enchiladas were super cheesy and the toppings were a great addition. I loved all the veggies and it made it easy for me to pretend that I wasn't just eating melted cheese underneath them. The pork was super tender and seasoned well. Our server disappeared a bit so we had to wait awhile to get the bill, but she was polite and friendly. Have had lots of good food at Los Amigos before and today the food was good, just the service was awful! First it took forever for our waiter to come. When he finally did he basically threw down the menus and ran off again. He screwed up our drink order but did bring water for the kids in cups with kids so that was good. When he finally came to take our order he seemed like he was in a rush and looking elsewhere in the restaurant. He brought our food out quickly (as always is the case at Los Amigos- bonus!), but the fajita special we ordered to share for two adults had only 3 tortillas! He never asked if we wanted corn or flour either and I was waiting for corn. Except after he dropped our food he didn't stop back for a while! I eventually asked him for more tortilla but again he ran away before I could say corn. So he brought more flour, and almost threw it at us! Positives to our dining experience was the fajita special we ordered to split for 2 adults was more than enough food! I had thought he would have brought us the fajitas for 2 but we were only charged the price for one. If that was only for one then it was plenty!! The only reason for four instead of five stars is the service, which while efficient has often lacked warmth. I was surprised to see so many negative reviews for this joint... I've been to one of the other locations and for what it is it's pretty good. The margaritas have good flavor... Made with Jose Cuevo gold. Prices are very reasonable and portions are large. This place is not an uber authentic Mexican restaurant, but rather a Mexican American restaurant and they do a very nice job. Service is fast and friendly, food is hot and tasty... I went on a Sunday night with my partner and mother. My mom and I ordered the burritos. I was a little upset that they didn't have shredded beef as an option but that is just a personal preference. The ground beef burrito wasn't the best but I can't expect it to be 100% authentic and I am fine with that sometimes. My mom enjoyed hers and she took some home with her to eat later or the next day for lunch. The place is decorated nicely and the staff is very friendly. The food came very fast. We were in and out in 40 minutes. It would be shorter but we were talking and didn't order right away. Overall: I would recommend this place and give them 4 stars. It is not your 100% authentic Mexican restaurant and if you don't expect that, you will be fine. But if you go in with the idea that you are eating in Mexico, you will be disappointed. Not sure why the reviews on this place are so low. I've been here two or 3 times and am very happy with the food and service. I think their prices are very good for the amount of food you get. Everything comes out really hot. Ordered a blended margarita and it was tasty and strong, they didn't chince out on the tequila. I have come here a few times since they opened. I have received great service and friendly staff each time. I enjoy the $1 tacos on Tuesday and we have ordered to go a couple of times. The last time in particular was great. The staff member in the front expressed to me that they had a mix up so they included 4 free tacos. I know that this gesture was an accident, but he could have saved the extra 4 tacos for the next person and instead, gained my 100% patient satisfaction. While we indeed waited for thirty minutes. We were served margaritas while we waited. Tables were being busted quickly, people were seated, everyone was happy, and some irritable. But again, go on a popular day, experience a rush. Once we sat down at the table we were given chips and salsa immediately. Seeing the rush, we told the staff to take their time. After it calmed down for a bit and we ordered our drinks. Because after that, pop isn't gonna cut it, definitely a Miami vice. Then our food of course, unfortunately the beans were burned, and you could totally taste it. But I understand trying to manage during a hectic day. Everyone did so amazing! So I need a Mexican food fix tonight my last experience here in the Kalamazoo area was not too great. I'm staying at the Holiday Inn here off the freeway and asked one of the desk clerks a recommendation and she sent me here. So it's probably not that far maybe 5 miles from my hotel located it with ease... The parking was tricky even though the parking lot looks huge the actual parking spaces for this particular restaurant are for few. The margarita in question is actually a lime it is the only one that you could buy for this price during happy hour. I ordered a chicken plate that came with chicken strips rice beans guacamole sour cream pico de gallo with the lettuce garnishment. My food came relatively fast and very hot but I forgot to add it also comes with for flour tortillas or you can order corn. The first presentation came on two plates yes I said two plates for just ... $10.99. I received plentiful chicken strips marinated just right, refried beans and the rice ...they were very authentic in preparation.I felt the food was pretty good for the price. This place is horrible the food had no seasoning. The beans and rice were clearly pre-made. The service wasn't much better we asked for water 8 times and it still took 1/2 an hour. The prices on the menu were incorrect. when we asked about it they said they were using old menu, we we're not told this when we were seated or by our sever. Bottom line is that for $20, you and a cheap date can get your stomach full on chips and a decent couple entrees and have a drink (obviously spend $30 and get two drinks so your poor sad ass has a chance to at least get to second base with your Tinder date) and not feel like total ass in the morning (unless your Tinder date went to 3rd or ,Yahweh forbid, All the way to score... then not even bottom shelf tequila and a 45 minute shower will help you, sorry.) Food was ok, but not as good as the other 2 Kzoo area locations. 2nd time, got sick when I got home. I've got a pretty strong stomach but this was painful. Went in tonight for one more try. We went on a busy Friday evening so we had to wait a few minutes before we were seated. Nary a female employee was visible, which we found odd considering this is a chain restaurant (a competitor later told me it's because the chain has decided to avoid the "emotional dramas that female employees bring with them; males come in, keep their mouths shut, and do the work they're supposed to do" - if true, that seems to have the making of a sexual discrimination case). The staff seemed to try to turn tables over promptly, so there were no vacated tables with dirty dishes left unattended for more than a few minutes. The service by our server was attentive and spot on. The food arrived promptly and was hot. But, regrettably, the food - and we ordered Steak Fajitas and Chimichanga Fajitas (with steak) this evening - was bland. All of the side dishes - the rice, the refried beans, the guacamole, etc. - were bland. The red salsa that accompanied the Gordon Foods tortilla chips was bland. Even the bottles of El Yucateco Red and Green Habanero Hot Sauce sitting in a tray on the table were toothless. At least the Diet Coke tasted like a Diet Coke. We were left with food that we were not going to finish but we declined to take the leftovers home, knowing their destiny was to grow old and ignored and moldy in our refrigerator. This is bland Tex Mex food perfect for the palates of Midwesterners. So here's the restaurant's demographic: Maybe you're part of a big group - you want to go someplace where you can focus more on the beer (or Margaritas) and conversation than on the food - you look at your plates at the end of dinner and try to remember with bafflement what exactly you ordered, but since you leave feeling full and a bit wobbly you are vaguely happy.
