I order this frequently via Uber eats. The food is delicious. This time they sent me my fajitas and carnitas with no tortillas. NONE!!! I tried calling the restaurant too bc I'd like to let the manager know what's going on. No one will answer the phone and their voicemail is full. Two $20 entrees missing a staple ingredient. May not order again now. I hate to leave a bad review from a restaurant I love. This is a solid place that will stay busy and for good reason; they make a decent plate of food for a somewhat reasonable price (if you keep your head about you, it's got some great value). I think the only thing I've never been fond of is their standard beef option for tacos/burritos/whatever it is put on; I've had it only a few times but it was always underwhelming. Their chicken and shrimp are always cooked gloriously, and the steak and fish are acceptable if not a bit lacking (nowhere near on the beef level of meh, but not something I would base a religion on). Best thing and the one thing we always order is the Texas Guacamole, essentially pico de gallo and big chunks of sliced avocado with the amount of cilantro sometimes being a bit lacking or more than gracious (I prefer it with more, it seems very standard without it), but really the avocado served is always fresh, and if you run out the lazy crib note thing to do is just ask for a side of avocado and mix it in. The GF loves The Bravos Plate with Chicken and Shrimp (a bang for buck plate), just get some veggies to the side so you don't feel completely bloated afterwards. If you are looking for something unique, there are likely other options to go with, but if you like the Frontera vibe without having to bother with actually spending money at a Frontera, make the trip and give them a visit.... read more

My food was actually pretty good (somewhat rare for Atlanta). However, they totally cheated us on the bill. Maybe it was an honest mistake, maybe it wasn't. When we lived on Scott Blvd., we would either get our Mexican food fix from Buford Hwy. or this place. Because we all know how horrific that Mexican restaurant across from Publix on Clairemont is...they can change their name all they like, they still are unsanitary. Unless you want a bad night spent in the bathroom, I would avoid it at all costs. Well, the last couple times we ate at Los Bravos, it was nearly the same experience. Cramp town in bathroom city. Obviously they've gone downhill or have cut corners on their cleaning routines, maybe done something different? All I know is that we all have gotten sick from this place the last few times we ate here, and its a shame because we used to LOVE this place. I even had a phenomenal shrimp salad from here once! But after our gastro experiences, this place is another Mexican joint that we now avoid like the plague. read more

I cannot get on the trendy taco bandwagon because I loathe Mexican food. I want to like it, I do... But time and time again, it's just a letdown. That being said, I "have" to give in every now and again because my friends/spouse really like a good taco. Dispite my loathing of Mexican food, overall I enjoyed this place. The food is much more authentic than the other Mexican restaurants in town (especially in Decatur). Their salsa has good flavor with a nice little kick. The chips were tasty and fresh (though more salt would have been appreciated). There were several vegetarian options which is nice because I'm not always in the mood for meat. I really enjoyed the enchilada sauce, but the vegetarian options fell a bit bland. Perhaps because the seasoning is mostly in the meat? Overall, I had a tastier meal compared to comparable restaurants in the area. It's family owned, so the service is a little slow, but really kind and accurate. I'd rather support a family business with a slower pace versus a soulless chain. Overall: tasty salsa/chips, decent food, personable service and good location/lots of parking. If you're looking for a Mexican restaurant in North Decatur that's GOOD and CHEAP and QUICK, Los Bravos is your place. The chips are warm and fresh and the salsa is good enough. I emphasize quick because we had barely placed our order when there it was being brought to our table. I must state for the record this was in the late afternoon, and you may encounter a longer wait at dinner or lunch peak hours. The combo plates are a terrific deal, coming with 3 or 4 items such as tacos, burritos, enchiladas, tostadas, chalupas, rice and beans, chile rellanos, etc. and priced around $6-7. Be smart and go to the Kroger in that shopping center, since they have a coupon on the back of Kroger receipts for $5 off 2 combo plates. So that's 2 dinners for about $9, pretty hard to beat. They also have specialty plates that are a little pricier. They look very tasty, but the times we've been in there we've stuck to simple, no frills, combo plates. The beer selection is pretty standard and reasonably priced, and they get points for freezing their mugs rather than just room temp glasses. I did not sample their margaritas. We had no complaints with the service. Everyone from the hostess to the waitress to the food runner was polite, friendly, and professional. The waitress maintained the perfect balance of attention, checking somewhat frequently while not hovering right over us. The atmosphere is very casual, bright festive colors and Mexican memorabilia adorn the walls. The tables are spaced comfortably apart and the music - a variety of Latin artists - is at an appropriate volume. Yes, these things matter to me. I haven't gone on Friday nights, but they have a live Mariachi band each week from 6-9pm which could be quite fun. Overall, a very pleasant dining experience for a neighborhood Mexican place. I couldn't decide whether to give Los Bravos two or three stars. I started to give them three stars, but after reflection, I am giving them two stars. We were promptly seated and our drink orders were taken right away. We had to ask for water. I ordered lunch 3 - huevos rancheros, rice and beans. My boyfriend ordered lunch number 1 - guacamole salad, chili rellenos and beans. The chips and salsa were very good. My huevos rancheros were okay, but far from the best I've ever had .The eggs were raw in the middle (as they are supposed to be), but the whites were rubbery and charred. The sauce wasn't great, but it was edible. The rice and beans were really good, but the flour tortillas were inedible. They seem to have been heated in the microwave, since they were rubbery and nearly impossible to cut with a knife. I ended up tossing the tortillas aside and eating my huevos rancheros without them. I was bummed. My boyfriend tasted my tortilla and proclaimed that he had never had a bad tortilla until today. On to his dish. The chili rellenos were not stuffed in a pepper, but rather they were encased in some sort of flour battter with a few slices of pepper included in the stuffing. He was extremely disappointed. Otherwise, he was mostly satisfied with the salad and rice. The volume on the television was very loud, as was the music and the women sitting in the booth in front of us. VERY annoying. Unfortunately, the service at the bar was terrible. I received dirty flatware and asked for another set but didn't get it until I asked again after my food was delivered. I had to ask for a straw as well. The real topper was when I checked my bank account. The bartender only received a 10% tip which despite the bad service was generous. A person changed it to a 10.00 tip for $14.85. I only gave $1.50 but they added a zero to charge $24.85 on my check. Needless to say, I will visit on Christmas Eve to the manager and show my receipts to complain. However I should have taken a picture of it before I left that day. As a former bartender this is atrocious behavior. Don't visit this restaurant. The food was decent. The service horrible. Visited on 12.23.19. Update: 12.24.19. I went back at 11 am to speak with the manager. I showed that I was overcharged, and the waiter saw me, apologized and gave me my $10 in cash on the spot. The other waiter looked incredulous. I didn't appreciate being overcharged and told him that stating that I was also a bartender. He possibly kept his job but I wasn't playing. Treat customers fairly. read more

I'm a new Georgian. I grew up in Texas. My main food group is Mexican. I learned how to order food in Spanish otherwise it was just "tex-mex". Searching for home style flavor we happened upon Los Bravos. We stood in the lobby without service for entirely too long. We eventually wandered into the main area of restaurant to seat ourselves & the server met us halfway to seat us. He was busy eating his lunch at the bar. Once seated we got promptly served our salsa. Salsa tasted like tomato paste & jalapeño. Food came out fast. Ground beef in burrito & tacos was seasoned well, but the sauce on top was dreadful. There's not much authentic flavor. Not even much Tex-mex about it. I knew this would be one of the reasons why it would be hard to leave home, I just didn't know how far away I really am. Los Bravos is your standard Mexican place. Probably a little Americanized Mexican food, but really extensive menu with many options for everyone. Food: I tend to go with the combinations. My favorite is #13 which is an enchilada, chili relleno, and burrito. The default is ground beef filling, so be sure to request chicken if you prefer that. All 3 items come together on the same plate with probably a pound of cheese melted on top. It doesn't taste healthy and you feel like you ate too much when you are done, but it is good. Basically, there is every possible combination with the following choices: burrito, enchilada, soft or hard taco, chili relleno, rice and beans, etc. There are also main entree-type dishes with steak, fajitas and other Mexican favorites. All tables get a basket of tortilla chips and salsa for free...and with free refills....definite bonus! Drinks: there is a full bar. Of course, they have margaritas which are ok....not too strong. A large pitcher cost us about $16 and gave us about 8 glasses. There are smaller pitchers too, plus beer, wine, sangria. No horchata if you are interested. Ambiance: the restaurant is in a Kroger supermarket strip mall, so don't expect too much. Inside, the venue is quite large. When you enter, there is a bar to the left with small tables. To the right is a large open room with a decent number of booths and tables. There is a large outdoor patio area that has a beautiful view of Dekalb Industrial...not! It actually is a nice patio, despite my sarcasm. On Friday night, there is a Mariachi band that goes around table to table. Probably nice if you are on a date (couldn't splurge for something nicer?). I think they often expect a tip. Staff: always friendly. no complaints. Bathrooms are clean. Note: you can often find a coupon either in the Savy Shopper or on the back of your Kroger receipts. Get 2 combos and 2 drinks and get $5 off. Better than nothing. Definitely worth stopping by if you are in the area. For those who don't know, a "Gringo Mexican Joint" goes something like this... -The staff dresses as if they are extras in a Zorro movie. -The interior has southwestern decor -Menu items feature numbered combos where everything comes with refried beans and flavorless rice and is topped with cheese. -Watered down free salsa. -Mariachi music on the speakers. -Most of the patrons are gringos, because no self-respecting Mexican will eat food in a place like this. Here are characteristics of Authentic Mexican Joints... -The Staff may or may not speak English, and instead of dressing for a Zorro movie, they dress in t-shirts of matching colors. -Majority of patrions may or may not speak English, and they come as a family. -They are located near other Hispanic businesses, and are often converted out of former fast food spots. -They usually feature a salsa bar. So if I knew better, then why the hell did I eat here? Because I had a real hard on for some chips and salsa today, but I knew better than to go here, and I'm out ten bucks for it... They even charged me extra for the onions and cilantros (which I asked for, since the salsa was so flavorless). Never again... read more

Even for basic Mexican this place ranks well in the cellar. I have nothing against the service, they were very friendly and attentive. The food came out quickly and the restaurant physically is great. But the food is just not good and I wasn't expecting much. I fee like I could have had the same level of meal if I had walked to the Kroger across the parking lot and picked up some meltable queso and some Totino meals. Everything was bland and just blah. They made the most horrible "quesadilla" I've ever had. It was about two weeks ago and Jodi and I were low on funds so we needed something quick and cheap before we went out for the night. We should have just sucked it up, paid more money to have an enjoyable meal elsewhere. Los Bravos' "quesadilla" had no love in it whatsoever. First of all it was beef. Second the beef was practically liquefied and lacked any seasoning because the only thing in it was the watery beef and cheese. Yuck! It was awful. Jodi had the spinach quesadilla and it was worse because it was waaay too salty. I thought the watery beef tasted better...yuck again! Recently, I'd gone to a place in L5P (Nuevo something) and their "quesadilla" was like "WOW!" - that's what my taste buds said. It was overflowing with peppers, onions and cheese and I thought, "now this is what a quesadilla is supposed to look and taste like. I promise to never set foot in Los Bravos again because there are too many other places that make way better "quesadillas." Too bad I couldn't think of one before going to there that night. IF YOU ARE STRICT VEGETARIAN, DO NOT EAT HERE! My partner and I eat here frequently as it is our favorite Mexican restaurant close to our house. We came here a few weeks ago with family. Some of our family members are vegetarians, so they were happy to see that the menu had a "vegetarian" section. We asked our server if the beans on that section of the menu were refried or black, because it didn't specify. Well the server told us that none of the beans they have are vegetarian. They told us that all their beans are cooked with pork!!!!! We were --- appalled. Luckily they aren't strict vegetarians, but come on! What about the people who don't eat pork for religious reasons? I just find this very rude and very disrespectful. I can understand not being vegetarian friendly, but to have an entire "vegetarian" menu but nothing on it is *actually* vegetarian? Terrible experience. Came with a group for our grandmother's 83rd birthday. Upon arriving we were told we couldn't split the bills and all had to be on one bill, use cash or do up to 4 even payments. Extremely inconvenient. Not to mention the rude ass sign at the front (see picture) None of the food was good. The steak in the fajitas was dry. The chicken on the chicken nachos was clearly taken right off of a drumstick and was VERY dry and HUGE pieces. The guacamole had no onions or tomatoes, no lime in the guacamole. We asked for limes to give it some flavor (they charged us 50 cents for the lime). The food took FOREVER to come out. We all agreed that we definitely never will be back. If I could give zero stars, I would. Yes, this is that kind of review. We came in around 1pm on a Wednesday and were immediately seated because it was pretty vacant. We were quickly given chips and salsa, but unfortunately that's all of the food I can actually tell you about. After fifteen minutes, we saw two other people get seated, immediately get approached by a waitress, and get their drinks within about two minutes. We never even got to put in a drink order. The chips were stale, and the salsa tasted like plain tomatoes. Little to no flavor and not even mildly spicy. Moral of the story, we left and went to Monterrey. read more

This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. The food is always good, as is the service. Chips and salsa are free, of course, but the cheese & refried bean dip is awesome. They always give you plenty of food and you won't go away hungry. The "big beers" (Miller Lite and Bud on tap) are a good deal if that's what you're wanting to drink. One reviewer mentioned the weak margaritas, but I've had them and think they're plenty strong. I've been to Los Bravos numerous times and I've never heard any complaints from anyone with me. This is a good place for larger groups as they have several large tables in the center. If you're eating early, though, there can be lots of noisy families in the main dining area, so ask to be seated at a table in the bar area if you have only two to four people in your party. Overall, this place has good food, good service, and good prices. read more

I asked to be seated outside but was told upfront I could sit outside but there are no servers so order my food and drink at the bar and host stand and I said that's fine. My food came out and it was cold as ice, mind you I have fajitas which should be smoking hot. I also asked about sour cream, pico etc you know the whole works. The server asked if I could give him a min (very nasty) and so I waited Patiently and he brought me out a big bed of lettuce with a slice of tomato like he just through it on a plate. I go here for lunch about once a week and it's fairly consistent and good, pretty typical Mexican food. I usually get the Chicken burrito with rice and refried beans. The Chicken burrito comes in this salsa type sauce with sour cream and queso. Extremely tasty! They have a number of TVs playing ESPN etc. to watch with your meal. All lunch combos are fairly priced. I can't believe I'm rating this one so low, but the service on Friday night has removed at least 1 star from the rating. 2 out of the 4 orders at our table were incorrect, and our server seemed to pay attention to every table in his section other than ours. But as usual, the food did not disappoint (once it was correct). Queso...good, guacamole...good, carnitas...goooooood! If we'd been drinking more, we would might have even overlooked the service since we all left very full and happy. One suggestion for management: a mariachi-free-zone. These guys are relentless, and on Friday, not so good. They approached our table and asked if we had any requests, and to which one friend replied: "peace and quiet." Ah, I hadn't been here in a few years and remembered that had a large outside patio, so decided to visit on a perfect spring evening. For some reason, there were more people seated inside, which always amazes me......but we requested patio seating and my daughter sprinted to one of the 4 'high tops' by the edge of the patio, so we could view the traffic on Dekalb Industrial below. The canvas seats upon which we perched have seen better days, much better days. If I had eated 3 or 4 more chips, I'm pretty sure the bottom of mine would have caved in completely. As it was, I was a good foot farther from the table than I should have been and the kids, well, they needed to do some fancy "knee eating" to reach the table. Yes, I believe they need to replace the chairs. So, the chips were warm, the salsa was super watery, but we ate it. Here's my tip --request a side of the "Pico de Gallo" which is absolutely amazing and bursting with flavor (mostly cilantro) to dip your chips instead. In fact, put the Pico de Gallo on everything; it's that good. The fish taco combo plate was very filling and the hubby's cheesy shrimp thing looked a tad bit 'overcheesed' but he seemed to enjoy it. My son got the classic "Quesadilla and fries" combo while our daughter went with the shrimp quesadilla, which she loved (it did have about 8 large shrimp in it --good deal!). We used our "Savvy Shopper" $5.00 off coupon and with beer and a good tip, got out for just under $40.00. If you close your eyes and sip your Tecate out of your frozen mug, you can almost, for a moment, believe that you're at the beach and not hanging at The Kroger shopping Center. read more

I've grown up going to this restaurant but I feel it has gotten worse and worse as i've gotten older. When I went there recently the cheese dip was served pretty much cold. Everytime i drive by this place i think to give it a chance. this will be my 3rd time here. the people here are very sweet but unfortunately that's all. the food isn't good and the service is so so. today i ordered the shrimp chimichanga and out of 10 i give it a 5. the food looks great but is tasteless. i can day the only gong i've enjoyed today is the salsa. like i said, very nice people but every time i sit at the bar someone disappears from it for a while each time. i sat down, was given water, then didn't put my food in until 15 minutes when the bartender decided to come back.
