You might be a redneck if you think this is good and authentic Mexican food. Thanks Jeff Foxworthy. Last night was my first time eating from here. My gf said her and her family use to eat here in the past, but she said they stopped eating here because it was bland and nothing special. After last night I completely understand with what she said and agree. Let's start... I walk into Los Burritos and I'm immediately greeted by two younger employees (maybe family members). I go to the counter and they ask what I would like. I ordered one machaca burrito combo (with rice and beans), one bean and cheese burrito combo, one carnitas burrito combo, 2 sides of guacamole, and ask about their menudo. "Is your Menudo red and come with hominy?" "Yes." "Is is good?" "Yes." "Really?" "Yes" "I'll have a large order of menudo too." "We are out of menudo" Couldn't have prefaced your answers with that? Disappointing. All this cost just over $40. They asked me if I would like salsa and I said yes I would like salsa verde. They proceed to give me a few small containers to fill the salsa myself. I don't have a problem doing myself, but it was strange that they keep the salsa containers behind the counter. I get the salsa and wait for my food. A few minutes pass and they say my order is ready. I go back to the counter and they go over my order. Everything was ok until they said carne asada burrito instead of a carnitas? Damn you! Ok, that was specifically my food. The person behind the counter gulped, when I said I didn't order that; I ordered a carnitas burrito. I said ok, I'll take the carne asada burrito. I leave and head home. Getting to the food, the carne asada was horrible. I read someone else's review where they thought it was ground beef and I wondered the same thing for a minute. I quickly came to the conclusion that it was a mechanically tenderized piece of meat, picture a country fried steak prior to being breaded. Wth? Felt cheap and tasted cheap too. The seasoning was lacking and it was very bland. The rice was very white washed (wasn't red at all) and lacked flavor. The beans were good, but what do you have to do to screw those up? The guacamole was alright, I felt it need a little salt (it was flat) and some cilantro. The salsa verde was good. It was slightly spicy and a bit garlicy. It made the rice tolerable. The machaca tasted like overly boiled meat that was boiled with green bell peppers and onions. The texture and flavor weren't good, but the food was edible. To me this is another Sunland-Tujunga eatery that is overrated by at least a star. I could see people giving it three stars, but by no means is it 4 star. Considering the food, the price, and the service, I can't give more than 2 stars. Even if the service was great, I feel it would still be 2 star. read more

So good. It isn't a traditional Mexican restaurant. They don't have dim lighting and tons of seating. It's a smaller, place with booths, meant to satisfy someone eating on the go, BUT the quality of the food is good. They're ideal for take out and they are especially good if you are craving Mexican but want to save money and don't want to have to pay restaurant prices. But compared to other Mexican restaurants of similar make up, their quality of food is PROFOUNDLY higher. Note, they have the best refried beans I've ever had. read more

Once again Los Burritos did not disappoint. Honestly, you can't beat their portions, food, and prices. Recommendation I highly recommend their Huevos Rancheros they are by far my favorite. Their sauces are yummy, they use a ton of cheese, it's inexpensive, and big enough to share with another person; $10 breakfast for two, hell yea . . . and that's including a drink and tax. Tip Don't go in expecting something phenomenal, go in expecting a good, quick breakfast, for a more than reasonable price. read more

Los Burritos - Mexican Near Me - Tujunga, California

Been coming here since moving to Tujunga in 2001, and am remiss in not having previously reviewed my favorite take out restaurant closest to my home. It is always my local go-to place for real Mexican food. Been here dozens of times without a single issue with the food or service. Parking is always a pain, but it is in a busy plaza, not their fault. Folks at the counter are always friendly, as is the cook. I have many favorites here, having been through the menu many times over the years, but my favorite of many is the combo #22, the Carne Asada plate, which consists of a great steak and beans and rice. They do both beans and rice very well. Some may consider these items throwaways or don't order combos if they think they are not going to taste that great, but as an integral part of any Mexican meal, they need to be done well, and Los Burritos does them quite well. Only one complaint-one star off for offering "breakfast" in a venue that opens at 11 AM. Really? Lunch time starts at 10:30 AM in the real world. Offer the breakfast items on the menu if there is a need but don't refer to it as breakfast since at this time only stoners would consider it as such. read more

I know, I know. It's a chain. I'm giving a chain restaurant 5 stars. I don't care. I have been going to this Los Burritos for years and they deserve it. Here's why: Salsa - At first glance, their mild salsa looks like a watery mess. Really, it doesn't look very appetizing. But I like mild salsa so I took a couple of 2 ounce take-out cups home with me, to go along with my burrito. I was truly shocked at how delicious this salsa was! I couldn't get enough. Four ounces was not enough. I could drink this stuff. It is the honestly the best salsa I've ever had. And they nail it, every time. Now I get a huge (24 ounce?) cup of salsa to take home - EVERY time. Their beans - THE BEST! Again, how can this be? They are a CHAIN. But they are that good. They are almost buttery. I don't know what they do to their beans We have tried to recreate them at home with limited success. Whatever they do, they do it consistently. We have ordered many other menu items, here. The Chili Relleno - great. Burritos - great. Carne Asada - great. We've ordered take-out for several years and have enjoyed every item. We have dined in, as well. Not someplace you'd want to take a date or a client but the staff is friendly and accommodating - we have, on occasion, ordered off-menu items and substitutions. I really like the food from this place...I normally call in my order for to go about 15mins before and then I pick it up. Tonight I decided I would order it there. However my service tonight was terrible!!!!! I ordered a #25 to go at 6:00pm, at 6:37pm I asked how much longer will my order take.. The lady was like oh I'm not sure what did your order again? Turns out she never gave the ticket to the cook to cook my food for me.... I know mistakes happen.. But really, how stupid can you get?!?!!!!!!! And hour and 20mins later I finally get my food. It's so immensely satisfying when a warm taste memory is proven accurate and unchanged. This is the experience I had here, recently. 15 years ago, before yelp, before my first iPhone, we lived near this Los Burritos. Then, I frequented this spot as I craved my favorite chicken burrito (about once a week.) It had shredded chicken, marinated just right with onions, (a little bit of green chilies, I think?), and made as a wet burrito. For 15 years I have been in search of the same, only geographically closer. Every time I walk into a Mexican food establishment, I ask "Do you shred the chicken in your burrito and is it marinated?" Even places with the same name and logo didn't live up to what I remembered. When a strong craving hit me today, I made the trek to revisit a favorite from a decade-and-a-half ago. I was not disappointed! Whew! It wasn't just my imagination and "underdeveloped" tastebuds from years ago, it was true! The chicken burrito does rock my world, even now! I was also pleasantly reminded of the fresh house-made salad and tortilla chips that made me sigh in satisfaction. the refried pinto beans were also as I remembered, perfection! The rice is not as flavorful as I'd like; but mixed with the beans and cheese, the combo is just right. The horchata is just to my liking, not too ridiculously sweet. The clientele is similar, too, from last I remembered, a mix of friendly Spanish-speaking and Caucasian guest streamed in and out, exchanging "thank you's" and this time, wishing each other a "Happy New Year." The young lady at the front is pretty and pleasantly polite. The owners haven't changed in about 25 years. Parking is plentiful and convenient. In an age where bigger and better is lauded, I find great comfort when certain things stay the same in quality and care. read more

I'm so sad! I've been a loyal patron for over 40 years, from when they were next to Love's and their current location. I will say the service has always been friendly and personal. However, the food this last time was terrible. The portions were obviously reduced and once always consistent savory, delicious food was blan and tasteless. It was clear from the first bite the recipes were changed or their now using sub-par ingredients. I just can't begin to express how disappointed and let down I feel. To spend nearly $50 dollars for a meal that is not even up to Tacobell standards is just maddening. The new owners should be ashamed of what they are trying to pass off as Mexico cuisine. You're better off saving your money and buying a microwave dinner. I realize that this review may seem completely harsh but if it stop one person from waiting their hard earned money then so be it. Lastly, the salsa I always looked forward too was now rancid and could have spoiled my meal even more had I not tasted it first. I will never and I mean never eat here again. They have a wide range of menu options including burritos, single orders, combination plates, extras, and drinks. Our personal favorites here include the bean and cheese burrito, the hard shell beef crunchy tacos, and the enchiladas. They have a salsa bar full of freshly made salsa. While over a friends house, he mentioned Los Burritos to me and it sounded like a good plan, I am not a burrito person, more of a taco mad man in all honesty. Ordered the Pollo Burrito, came with beans and mexican rice but all under $6 bucks, a lot of food for the buck I would have to say. Now I should have known better then to go for the Pollo, it is really hard to find a good tasting chicken meat in a taco, burrito or even a torta. It was ok, figured it need something else , but it was still good. I would diffidently want to try something else on their menu next time in that part of ton and see what other taste they have to offer. Their tortilla chips are home made as well as their salsas I think I could be wrong but I'll still keep eating it. It took me this long to write a review just because I've been enjoying it so much every time I'm there I forget about Yelping! Don't get me wrong, from the outside it looks a little sketchy. But the place is kept clean on the inside, it seems like it's family run, & the people are very sweet. If you sit down to eat inside you will see that a lot of the customers are regulars based on their interactions at the register. It's just over $10 for an asada burrito with both kinds of sauce & cheese melted on top (that part is a MUST) and a soda. They give you chips and a salsa bar to munch on while you wait. Normally it would be a 10 plus star but last nite I went in and ordered a quesadilla $8.00. Extremely pricey especially for what I got. Very little cheese mostly tortilla and what cheese that was in there was not melted. I also asked for green sauce and extra green sauce. Nothing in there. Why is it when the main guy is not there people give you half ass food. It's not like I didn't pay for it. My dreams were dashed as soon as I got into it. The guy during the day has it so juicy and yummy that I didn't think twice about paying the 8 bucks. My taco was the same usually chock full of cheese. Not tonite barely on there. Ok, So I was in Tujunga, CA for work over the weekend. I wonder if there are many sinners because there are certainly many Churches, I mean just plenty, at least one on every block. Anyway, was hungry need to get something quick, the choice is between KFC or Los Burritos, I opt for Los Burritos. I'd have to say they're pretty good, friendly service, pushing people to get salsa which is a big plus because I've been to places where they're not giving it up for some reason. Look at it this way, this place has a lot more high ratings than low. I have been coming to Los Burritos ever since I was 7, so I know the staff pretty well and they are extremely friendly. Best mexican food spot in town, has real fast service. This place is clean, and as clean as it will get in this neighborhood. To say it like it is, this place has staff that have been around for more than a decade, so they are really on top of things. BUT recently just hired a new staff member that is not on her game like everybody else. Now onto the food. I love their: enchiladas, hard and soft tacos, carne asada burrito, beans tostada (vegetarian), and chile relleno burrito and plate. Unfortunately, they don't have nachos here, BUT you can CUSTOM order them and cost is around $5-6. Overall, this place is excellent. I don't understand the high reviews for Los Burritos. Each time I have tried the food I am unimpressed and feel like I've been let down. The burritos and chile rellenos are missing something. The chile lacks seasoning and I am left feeling that this place has lost (or never had) someone with a passion for cooking good food and ensuring their standard is consistently met. I get it that this isn't a fancy place, but a little initiative, organization and creativity could make a huge difference in the appearance. If the food made up for the appearance and the "meh" service, I could ignore it all. Sadly, it does not. You can pretty much tell by the friendly orange sign with the burro you're going to get some good, warm comfort food served with a smile. I always get a soft tostada / veg burrito (beans, cheese, guacamole, lettuce plus a pinch or two of cilantro and onions.) Simple as it sounds, it's just unbelievably delicious. The rest of the dishes are excellent, I'm just fixated on this one item. Everything is so fresh, and the salsas are perfect. The piping hot chips are delicate and lightly salted. I enjoy the curtido as well - a few slices of pickled carrot and onion to pre-flavor your mouth for the main event is part of the ritual. This is a pretty good size burrito by the way, cooked and served in the classic L.A. style that generations of club-goers and people-on-the-run know and love. It does take a few minutes extra to get your food sometimes - when you're hungry and anticipating what's coming, it's murder, but things are cooked to order and done right, so relax and enjoy the fluorescent lighting. It's pretty clean inside and the people are nice, despite some of the shady (or poor) people that file in all day long. You see many families, couples and buddies tired from a day of work eating in a deeply satisfied silence - it was probably the best part of their day and they're really savoring it. Side note: I too remember the Poo Ping Palace - can't say I miss it, but I miss the sign. At least we have the Pan Tang down the street. read more

Yesterday, I order 3 quarts of Quacamole, 1 quart of salsa, and chips for 15 people. The quacamole was praised by everyone The salsa was too hot for some but enjoyed by most people including myself (pictured below on the right). I do feel the cost of chips was too high so next time, I'll get organic from Costco. The chips were still warm when I got to my daughter's house in Glendale. Over all I recommend this store. It's not fancy but the cost of the food is very reasonable and the service is fast. The fancier Mex resturants in the neighborhood are slow and slower. Los Burritos is the quintessential LA Mexican food restaurant. Not fancy, just consistently good food. You can't go wrong with the hard shell beef tacos here. Everything else I've had here is outstanding as well. Of note, are their beans. delicious! Don't expect any fancy decorating inside this place, it's pretty basic with only about 9 or 10 booths that can fill up if they are busy. You are better off getting the food to go. I was by for a burrito, carna asada, the other day to eat at the restaurant. The gal that serves my burrito let it sit at the chef's window until it got cold. Why, she was messing around with cold drinks. The chef said 2 times that the order was up, she replied something in Spanish and wouldn't serve the food. I have been craving Mexican food for awhile so decided to stop by here on my way home. Haven't been here in years but remembered it being SO good! But man was I disappointed. I ordered carnitas taco and chicken enchilada combo plate. Carnitas was decent in flavor but had too many dried up pieces which is not enjoyable to eat. The chicken in the enchiladas was dry and tasteless. No flavor! I was hungry so I picked at my plate but it was just so disappointing. Rice and beans were decent (or maybe I was just so hungry by that point). Chips seem like the store bought kind and salsa was just ok. Overall a huge letdown and I would definitely NOT return to even try something else. *I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because the girls working up front were very nice and had great customer service.
