First time in PR. First restaurant I visited outside the hotel. Had no preconceived notions. Little what I would call a "hole in the wall" at home. It usually they have great food. Jackpot!! Friendly people helping this non Spanish speaker. Just for simple stuff. Chicken and cheese empanada, beef and cheese empanada, passion fruit virgin drink and then another fresh fruit drink. Right across the street from the beautiful crystal clear waters on the beach!!
This place is like a food truck kinda vibe. We walked up and the guy was on a personal call for about 6 mins while we waited for him to put in our order. I heard and understood the whole conversation which is how I know it was personal and super unprofessional towards us and the people on line behind us. The meats had good flavor but it came out barely warm. As you can see in the pics, about 4 oz of low quality shredded cheese was added to top them off. I would've preferred it all heated up with melted cheese. Not a good experience so I'd steer clear of this place. There's so many other options in the area (like Burger Kind next door).
GET HERE NOW!!!! 500/10. Open 24/7 I ordered the Cachapa Pabellón and added avocado. Absolutely amazing. The meat was so tender, plátano was sweet and savory, the cheese was melted just right, and I've never had a cachapa that good. The Cachapa is grilled perfectly, nice char, sweet, firm yet falls apart. The white and green sauces are very good together and separate. The flavors over everything combined go crazy. Customer service was excellent, very helpful, explained everything, answered all my questions. A walk-up spot, real homey and inviting vibe. Parking is very limited
We stopped by here this morning on a whim and bought 6 freshly made empanadillas: 3 beef and cheese, 1 beef, 1 pabellón and 1 cheese. All of these empanadillas came with two little sauces and all of them were outstanding! Out of all the empanadillas I've eaten in Puerto Rico during my trip, these were the best, by far & my favorite! The guy who served us was very friendly and spoke fluent English, as well. The whole Puerto Rican vibe here is amazing. I love that it's a convenient little hut next to a gas station. There's even a little bar beside the food and table full of hot sauce varieties to choose from! Now, my only regret is that I didn't come here more often during my stay because we fly out this afternoon.
Absolutely the best arepa I've had (may have been my first time if I'm being honest lol but STILL)! It was AMAZING. We actually weren't planning on going here for dinner but I saw it was a 24hr spot and the lights intrigued me when driving past so we added it to the list for on the way back. When we came back you pull into a parking lot that is shared with papa johns so it's fairly small. You have the option of carryout or if it's not busy and you can find a table outside you can eat there. It's a small shop but food sure does seem made with love and passion. The arepa itself was warm and soft. The chicken... wow... i NEVER get chicken when it comes to latin food cause it's never to my liking and never hits the way good steak does, but let me tell you - this chicken was juicy, shredded, flavorful, 10/10! Now lastly they LOADED it with cheese and THAT I ADORE okay.. i love me some cheese. Their green sauce is real tasty i think it was a sofrito sauce but could be wrong.
I remember coming to this place often when they opened many years ago. Back then they had the most authentic Venezuelan food in the area with only a few items on the menu like the arepas, the cachapas and the tequeños. Now the menu has all sort of different items like 'patacones rellenos', which is stuffed Puerto Rican "tostones", turnovers of all kinds and stuffed avocados. I came back the other day to indulged in their cachapas with queso de mano and chicken, it has always been my favorite item besides the tequeños, which are succulent. To my surprise it was exactly as amazing as I remembered. Perfect combination of flavors between the sweet corn kernel and the saltiness of the cheese. I also ordered a 'pionono' turnover that had sweet plantain and ground beef inside, delicious. Don't mind if you have to wait a little bit because everything is made to order, super fresh and steamy hot. They also have all sort of mild/hot sauces to try. They also have a variety of natural juices and drinks. Los Chamos Arepas is a gem for those craving authentic Venezuelan food!
Omg I always bypass this place for whatever reason but I finally stopped here the other day and got an Arepa Vegana (black beans, sweet plantain, and avocado). It was so good. The arepa was fluffy and airy and the variety of hot sauces did it just right. I will def keep this place in mind. It's also 24 hrs and pretty much JUMPIN at night so don't come here rushing. The drinks are great too.
Doesn't look like much when you're walking past, but the food and staff were amazing. We were so hungry after walking around Condado looking for arepas that we forgot to take pictures before munching on them and who wants pics of half eaten arepas? I did manage to take a picture of the bottle of pique that we were obsessed with though so there's that! My favorite was definitely the shrimp!
Found this place on Yelp while in Puerto Rico for a cruise. Los Chamos Arepas was within walking distance from my hotel (Hotel Bali Posh), and while I wanted to try local food I am a sucker for Venezuelan food. This place doesn't provide a lot of seating, but it has a huge selection of hot sauce from all across the world on a table outside surrounded by a few benches. We ordered the tequenos de queso and the reina pepiada arepa. Everything was AMAZING and full of flavor! Service was super fast, and their margaritas were absolutely delicious! This is a great little place to visit while in Puerto Rico! read more
Not even gonna lie to you; I live in California and this place is expensive af for what you're getting. Don't get me wrong, what you're getting isn't bad food. It's just that you're basically getting food truck vibes and what is essentially street food for a nice, full service price point. The food is hearty- you don't need to order much to get full. Stick to what this place is good at, arepas. They load it to the max and their assortment of sauces are pretty impressive. One thing I gotta say though, $10 for an orange juice is egregious at any level. I could be at the four seasons in Bali and that would still make me raise my eyebrows. Even then I ordered it like a doof and it was like 3/4 ice!! C'mon yall, just take it off the menu if it's like that. Overall, the 24-hour aspect is nice and the food is decent. I can see myself paying a premium after a long night out, but just watch what you get because that bill can run up quick. read more

The food was cold! The arepa outside was cold! The chicken was pink a didn't eat ir because I think it should be white! The cachapa was ok! But the reina peliada was the worse arepa that I tried in my life!! And i love arepas! Go somewhere else for arepas read more

Ordered the food the Pelua with Avocados and I let the person know I wanted it fresh. I received a cold Arepa, the beef was cold and they forgot my avocados. He brought it to me after and when I asked if they could put it inside for me he went to try to use his bare hands and I said never mind. The taste of the beef was like it was from a can. The cheese was not that good. Overall I would not go back. However, the cashier was really nice but didn't give me his full attention, on the phone. Avocados had to have Salt on it and I had to ask for it. read more

This place was interesting in terms of food and atmosphere. The food was delicious. We absolutely loved all of the food. It was cheesy and delicious and just to die for. The service for the food side was great! He was helpful in helping us decide what we wanted and how to get it. The food came piping hot and amazing. The bar side on the other hand was a little hit or miss. He was really just pushing mojitos and seemed to not want to make anything else. He also took off next door for a while, which had us waiting a good 10 minutes after eating to be able to pay when we were already ready to leave prior. The downside to this place is the seating. There are two or three tables and the trash cans near them have the Grackles everywhere. The music is also so loud you can barely here. If I returned, I would get the food to go just because it's not my cup of tea. But the food was very much worth stopping for! read more

Wowowow! One of the best things we've eaten in San Juan. Do not miss it. Service is very friendly, drinks are strong, free shots, insane food. I got a mango mojito and a chicken and cheese arepa. This would be good for a picky eater or someone that was just looking for excellent seasoned chicken and the basics. My boyf got one with shredded meat cheese beans and plantains that was also great and had a Cuban food kind of vibe to me. Just a small stand with some barstools, but if we have time we'll be back. Don't overlook this place! Bonus - open 24/7. read more

This arepas spot is right next to a gas station so we weren't really sure what to expect when we stopped by for a quick lunch. I'm usually not too crazy about arepas but these were absolutely delicious. Their most famous arepas are the ones with plantains so I ordered the shrimp/plantain empanada and a simple one with chicken//beef. Every bite was cheesy, delicious, and crispy. EAT HERE. No it's not Puerto Rican cuisine but it was literally one of the best things about my trip. So delicious. Cheap food. DELICIOUS and Fulfilling. We parked on the side of the road because there isn't a parking lot. There are about 4 outdoor tables. Menus are in Spanish and English. I had mixed Arepas and they were so good! Oh and get the green sauce. I've never enjoyed eating something that I didn't know what it was so much! read more
We ended up at this place because our Uber driver, Mario, told us we weren't going to enjoy our original place for breakfast. We were super apprehensive about it because who was this random guy taking us to a random restaurant with a random food we had never heard of? HAHA! I'm so glad we trusted him. We wound up coming to this shack across from the beach that smelled of corn and cooked meats. EVERYTHING here was delicious. There is also a nearly endless amount of hot sauce options so that every bite is a COMPLETELY different experience. This place is open 24 hours so i would suggest getting it and then walking to the beach (because everything is cooked to order and it'll cool down to the perfect temp by the time you get to the beach) or after a long day at the beach for some post-beach drinks and bites! read more
