I was craving Mofongo and decided to give this place a try. I ordered Mofongo Relleno de Camaron en Salsa criolla. The sauce was savory and the Mofongo was garlicky and full of flavor. My only complaint is that the sauce was more of a Puree and my preference is more of a chunky sauce. El Camarón enjoys a great location, near Condado and Miramar. It's a short ride away from Old San Juan as well. As such it's popular with both tourists and locals. Street parking in front, large parking lot in back. They open late. No outside seating. Large dining area, perfect for groups. Full bar. Dominican owned but serves mostly Puerto Rican fare, with a few Dominican staples like mangú. The few times I've eaten here I've walked out satisfied. They make good mofongo. Very annoying experience overall. No clue why there's any business here, the workers are lazy and aimless, so our wait time was ridiculous and the service was poor. Seems very much like a shitty local spot, do not visit if looking for something nice. The steak was flavorless and we got upcharged after the veal wasn't available. I don't like to give bad reviews, but last night's experience was horrible. The waiting time was ridiculous and when they finally decided to take our orders, the waiting time was even longer. I was hoping that the flavors were going to be better but we were so disappointed in so many ways. The chicken was tasteless, dry. La carne frita was dry, and they just added raw onions at the end. Tostones de panas were the frozen ones. Too much rice and too little beans. We have been here before and it is not the same restaurant we remember. We arrived yesterday from Virginia and were looking forward to try it and we were sad and disappointed with the experience. Needless to say that we will not be coming back. I don't understand how this place was packed with people and has all these high ratings. The food was bad. Arroz con pollo I got something simple thinking it would be good and I was wrong. The chicken was over cooked to the point that it was sandpaper dry. The rice was okay, it lacked flavor. The beans it came with arrived cold. I took a handful of bites then paid and left. So I know it says Puerto Rican food on Yelp but I have to say it should say Puerto Rican /Dominican because mangú , one of the most typical Dominican dishes, is EXCELLENT in this establishment. Wow!!! Mangú is made from broiled plantains. You may think that sounds bland but when someone really knows how to make it can be a very delicious and also a healthier alternative to Puerto Rican mofongo, which is made with fried plantains. Just make sure they do not use a lot of butter. If you do not know mangú, I will recommend to try it at this place for your first time. It was soft, tasty and dressed with cooked onions. The mangú was spectacular so only for that, this place should be known for this delightful Dominican dish. Other great dishes we really enjoyed were broiled Dorado (fish), octopus and conch salad, seafood stew with mangú, and steak with mofongo. All well prepared and tasty. Portions are on the large side so be prepared to eat or share. Service is also very good. All the ladies were very attentive. I am not completely sure about their business hours but I believe they are open until late during the weekends and sometimes they have live music. The atmosphere is very casual but everyone is super friendly. If you want good Latin food this is one of the best places in the Condado area (tourist area) with reasonable prices. read more

I would have afforded them another star because the food was ok, but the service was abysmal. The food is really not worth not worth all the waiting, go somewhere else. First we walk in waited 10min at the door to never be seated. We then decided to sit ourselves. A waitress came by 5 min later and moved us to another table. Fine, I was still not upset, I'm patient. She goes to find menus and comes back. Leaves us for another 5 min, comes back takes the drink order then runs away, we could've ordered the food with the drinks. We had to wait another 10 min for her to come back to with our drinks to finally order food. I was with family and we were talking and enjoying each other's company so we were no really upset. The icing on the cake was when we were ready to leave. We had the credit card on the table and had to ask for the check. We waited a few minutes for her to bring the check. Then when she dropped the check, she did not take our credit card and left quickly. We waited 15 minutes for her, AND SHE NEVER CAME BACK! We had to get another server to take our check, and then the manager came out with our credit card slip. I will never go back. Local Dominican-owned place with huge portions of food. It helps if you speak Spanish here but their menu features photos of many of the dishes so you can always point to what you want. It gets very loud here on weekends but the weeknights are a delight.
