Between the unpleasant valet experience, the indifferent response at the hostess stand, the two-hour wait, and then being told I couldn't sit at the bar simply to have a drink while we decided what to do, the overall message was clear: we did not feel welcome here. My wife, the rest of our party, and I decided to leave and have dinner elsewhere. A busy restaurant is understandable. A long wait is understandable. What is much harder to understand is making prospective customers feel unwelcome at nearly every point of contact. Our dinner at Los Cocos Rest. Parrillada for two (beef and chicken fajita, sausage and shrimp. It also comes with 2 sides for each (rice & charro beans) and handmade tortillas. Absolutely delicioso! The portions were perfect! Couldn't even finish everything. Highly recommended!! Oh and forgot to mention I had their chilaquiles this morning with cecina and over medium eggs....now, you wonder why i had to come back for more?! I also saw on their menu, they have traditional homemade Mole poblano? Have to come back for that!!! Totally worth the trip. Can't wait til im back. read more

This is not Tex-Mex...and it shouldn't be. There are so many Tex-Mex places already that what we need is more restaurants that make traditional Mexican food. Right now Los Cocos is the best place to find real Mexican food. One of the best dishes is the Mole de Torta. It is one of he daily specials they have during the week and is not to be missed!! Everything tastes very fresh and the flavors are amazing. You should also try the Champurrado. It's a hot thick drink almost like chocolate. Can't wait to go back! read more

Great MEXICAN food. I've lived in Texas all my life and every time I look up a "Mexican" restaurant it's really Tex-Mex. This is the first place that I have found real authentic Mexican food that taste homemade. I will definitely be a regular Customer at this restaurant. read more

I ordered 2 orders of quesadillas with fajita which they charge you for. The cook then told me "well, they are quesadillas they are supposed to have more cheese than meat, the meat is proportioned" "and as for the rice, we just changed the pot." But as you can see in the photos, they didn't have any cheese or meat but as she said "it is proportioned".

The horchata was sweet, creamy, and cinnamony and the lemonade was bright and refreshing. The menudo was amazing, rich beefy broth with nice chunks of tripe and pork trotters along with hominy. It was well spiced but not spicy and just so great on a cold day. The barbacoa quesadilla was also so good, probably the best barbacoa I've had in Houston so far. It was super flavorful and rich but not greasy and didn't leave my mouth coated with fat (not that I'm always against that). The salsa verde and roja were also great and thick so it didn't just leak out of the quesadilla. This was such a pleasant surprise that had amazing food and super well priced. Most dishes were under $10 with a few items a couple dollars more. Anyway, this spot deserves much more love than it seemed to be getting.
