Was in the area and decided to have late lunch with my mom. The place itself is so delicious. I am a sucker for Oaxacan cuisine. However, the prices are a bit outrageous. You also have to pay to park in the lot AND the restaurant charges a crazy fee to use your card to pay for the food. I'm not sure if this is a new policy, but it kinda sucks because no one carries that much cash these days. As for the food, it was so delicious. The mole was perfect. I enjoyed everything. The horchata was great too, but it was a bit too sweet for my taste. Overall, I'd give the taste of the restaurant a 10/10, but there's a few cons to eating there. Los Compadres de Oaxaca is a gem in the Chinatown area. My wife and I stopped by for lunch, and everything we had was delicious. I ordered the mole negro, which was rich, deep, and complex. You can tell the sauce is made with care. My wife had the mole burrito with asada and loved it just as much. Both dishes were bursting with flavor and made with fresh ingredients. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere inside is warm and inviting, with beautiful murals that really showcase Oaxacan culture.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You can feel that this is a true family-run restaurant with a genuine heart for service. On a previous visit, I tried the tlayuda, which is kind of like an Oaxacan pizza, and it was something special too. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the whole place just has a great vibe. My only small complaints are that parking costs ten dollars, though it is validated if you ask, and the lot itself is very tight. Street parking might be the better option. Prices are also a bit on the higher side compared to more casual taco spots, so expect to spend around 20 to 30 dollars per person without drinks. Still, the quality of the food, the atmosphere, and the hospitality make it absolutely worth it. Los Compadres de Oaxaca is one of those spots you root for to thrive. I came here with my husband for the second time, and the servers are always so nice. I had the mole burrito, and he got the chicken with mole both were absolutely delicious. We had the mole negro, but we also tried a bit of the red mole with the tortilla chips they bring out at the beginning, and that was amazing too. I could go either way next time! We visited Olvera St. and while we loved our experience there, the reviews pointed to a restaurant nearby not on Olvera St. It was close to China town which is nearby. So we walked there from Olvera. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were greeted by vibrant colors and wall paintings when we first walked in. It was amazing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We knew we were in an authentic restaurant when we found the servers barely spoke English. I am ashamed as half Mexican to say my Spanish is dismal. But we could read the menu fine as it had English explanations for everything. When I was in Cancun I had the best mole ever. It put me off of other moles for good. But they mentioned the recipes being from Oaxaca. So since we were at a Oaxacan restaurant I decided to order the enchiladas en mole. It came with yummy rice and beans. The mole was the best I've had since leaving Cancun. Still not quite as good, but good enough. Everyone else loved there plates of tacos, burritos, and soups. The thing I wish they served is some kind of veggie or salad with the entree. A lot of Mexican restaurants do this so as to balance the carbs with some good veggies. Radishes and peppers would be fine for me. Another bummer is they didn't serve margaritas which would have went well with the meal. Otherwise, I wish I lived near this place so I could try many of the delicious looking plates they serve. Especially the molcajete which I saw someone order. Looks amazing. Realmente decepcionada. Estaba muy emocionada de traer a mi mamá aquí para el Día de las Madres. La fila es normal, pero una vez adentro no tomaron nuestra orden hasta 25 minutos después. This place serves delicious food. The complimentary appetizer tortilla chips with mole on top. So yummy! The moles are really good. The negro and coloradito. Service was fast and friendly. The food at this little hidden gem is very good. Its as authentic as it can be, they make their own tlayudas on a wood grill they set up out front of the restaurant. The molcajetes and the moles are the star here. Service was excellent, the ambiance is , well, authentic. The tortillas are made fresh from corn, and the Queso fundido was tasty as hell. The molcajetes are quite unusual, oaxacan meats, cheeses, queso fresco to be exact, bolita de chorizo, cecina, and tasajo. Billed higher prices than listed in the menu and online. The food was good, and much spicier than most of what I've had around here, even at hole-in-the-wall taco joints. The menu states that chicken enchiladas at $15.99 and I was charged $18.99 for each. I was treating a friend to lunch as a thank you for picking up my mom from the airport, but that's a hidden $6 charge for a $32 meal. In the spirit of generousity, I encouraged my friend to have a cofee and a pastry. The coffee was $6 and the pastry was $4. It tasted like the things they sell at Mexican bakeries for like 30 cents. I tried the hot maiz drink (also $6) and found it comparable to Gerber plum baby food in flavor and texture. So, it ended up being pretty pricy, and even more than I expected. Don't secretly upcharge your customers. That's bad business ethics. Would've taken a photo, but my phone died, and I didn't want to make a stink in front of my friend. read more

So when we try new mole places, we get excited. It was the worst mole we have ever ordered together. She decided NOT to take the leftovers home. If you like mole, stay away. The food was ok. Some of the plates were cold, not even a bit warm. The waitress was rude. We had high expectations of this place. First of all whoever did the design for the menu did not make things clear. I ordered a torta and the menu made it seem like it came with 3 different meats. The waitress never bothered to ask what meat I wanted she just assumed. Also no where on the menu did it say it automatically came spicy with jalapeños, I can not eat spicy food as it irritates my stomach. Another person who was with me ordered a tlayudas, which also seemed like it came with barbacoa meat, and the waitress said it came with all meats including barbacoa. The food came and it was not as it said on the menu. The waitress was rude and confused. The wrong plates were brought and it seemed to piss her off we complained. The torta came super late and I had also ordered a cup of hot chocolate and a water. Nothing came. 30 min later everyone was done eating and another waiter stopped by and I informed him I hadn't gotten my hot chocolate, the torta I ordered or the water, meanwhile everyone else got their meal, some incorrect mind you. Finally after 45 minutes the torta came and it was all wrong. They then inform me they ran out of chocolate and I calmly was like ok but no one brought my water and no one came to inform me they ran out of chocolate or offered me anything else. One waiter said he would bring the manager over, the manager never bothered to come by. The original waitress didn't come back and this other waiter took over and an hour and 45 min later I finally got my water and torta. They also gave me some other hot drink and a flan. What upsets me is the menu is so badly designed. It just causes more issues. The manager never bothered coming to the table which showed how this business is not well run. The food was cold. This place was not great. Service, fail, management failed. Not going back. read more
