Came for lunch around 2pm on a Tuesday. Restaurant was mostly empty, but the server was very nice and welcoming. Chips were warm, crisp and fresh. Salsa was refreshing and seems to be made from fresh tomatoes--not canned. Delicious stuff. Ordered the dinner taco platter special: tongue, al pastor, carnitas, and carne asada. The tongue and al pastor were definite standouts, absolutely delicious and with a nice sear to them. Carne asada also had a great sear and good flavor. Carnitas were about par for the course; I'd probably get another tongue or al pastor taco instead next time just due to personal preference. Yellow rice and refried beans were both passable, no complaints. Rojo salsa has a nice heat to it, and a light earthiness. Verde salsa has a beautiful fresh flavor to it. I also asked for a small sample of mole, and it was delicious. I really only have 2 suggestions: the iced tea is a little weak, and I'd love more than 1 lime wedge for 4 tacos. Other than that, the food is solid. Although my server didn't check on me until I asked for water, she was really nice, and she was also accommodating to the 2 or 3 pickup orders who came in. The Woodstock area is not exactly known for it's gastronomical delights. It doesn't matter how fancy or expensive the restaurant is; you can generally expect a dismal experience. Los Compadres is the one rare exception. Dining is very casual but the food and drinks are superb. It has a sports bar vibe with the tv's, but you can enjoy conversation without having to yell at your dining companions. The prices are excellent. This is a tasty experience in a sea of mediocre restaurants. read more

The fact that this place is rated 4.5 stars is insane. Are you kidding me? Really? 2 stars is a stretch....a real stretch. Same thing every time I go in.......1 waitress running around with her head cut off trying to take care of four tables and a few people at the bar. All the while trying to make drinks, take orders, serve food, answer the phone, bill out checks, etc. It is absolutely mornonic to think that you can run a restaurant like that. The food is just ok.... certainly not cooked with any love or passion. In fact, one of the cooks always has a very non welcoming look on his face...now I understand that, but if you really don't want to work somewhere find another job before it really starts showing in your cooking. Drinks are inconsistently made, never the same twice. And that usually goes for the amount of alcohol in them as well. One time it will be a perfect blend, the next time your wondered if you ordered a mocktail. The place also doesn't keep consistent hours. Seems like it could be a fun place, but the way their going I'd be surprised if it's around next year. read more

My husband and I decided to deviate from our regular Friday night restaurant rotation and unfortunately, we were left to regret that decision. As I am 40 weeks pregnant we ordered carry out and were left waiting for 45 minutes at the bar. My husband ordered a beer and after he was initially served we were not attended to until the check needed to be paid. I have spent time in the restaurant industry and I am generally very understanding when it comes to wait times, a little bit of chaos during prime business hours, etc, however, they really were not that busy and nobody bothered to update us on the status of our order the entire time we were waiting. When our order finally came out there was no attempt to apologize for the wait. They did however, apologize to the table that ordered after us about their order being placed before a carry out ticket. To top it all off...after the long wait someone confused the carry out order with a dine in order and out food was left on a plate. It was eventually scraped into a box and by the time we drove the 5 minutes to return home...our food was cold. The food was fine (other than the fact it was cold), however, when your restaurant experience makes you wish you had just stayed home and spared yourself the time and expense then it makes for a disappointing evening. There are plenty of other restaurants we could have walked into where we would have felt better spending our money. If the servers had been a bit more attentive or offered us chips and salsa (chips are not included in to go orders) or ANYTHING than this could have been an entirely different experience. read more

Walked out. They refused to seat a 2 top in a booth and the single table open I was advised was for the band. Meanwhile another 4-top already seated and done their meal was patiently waiting for someone, anyone to come by and take his credit card and bill.Turning tables seems to be a real issue. So, let's summarize: 2 empty tables, another table ready to leave if only someone could take his payment, another table just hanging out, and people waiting at the door to be seated. Just moved to Woodstock and was hungry for tacos, I mean authentic Mexican street tacos. Found Los Compadres and on a first try, I was impressed with the wait staff and friendly atmosphere like one of the managers said it's like Cheers ( where everybody knows your name). The food was just ok. Hubby and I came back three more times, and every time my first impression was getting diminished. Last night was the last straw. Although they were packed on a Friday night, there was a booth, and and table empty we couldn't be seated there because it was meant for 4 people, so they point to an empty 2 person table smacked between a 6 person table against the wall and two other people to the other side who appeared squished in such a small place. So we were seated there squished and having to withstand the loud drunk pack of women seated at both our sides. We ordered chicken and steak fajitas, which was lukewarm. Didn't hear any sizzling. We ate it because we were hungry. They say hunger is the best sauce, but even with hunger we found the food to be bland and expensive. They give little food for the price. On a previous visit, we had a pitcher of margarita. The price? $36 for a pitcher full of ice and very little margarita. We got 4 glasses out of it. And they don't even make it with premium tequila either. Outrageous! Never again. read more

I went in really late...they were about to close, actually they were closing...but allowed me to order anyway. The owner was actually sitting having a meal himself...he warm, welcoming, friendly and talkative...and the hostess was the same. She made recomendations off the menu as I am vegetarian. She was helpful without being annoying...the service was really inviting. As for the food, it was really good...I ordered black bean quesadilla...and it was really tasty...the beans were seasoned INSIDE the quesadilla perfectly. You get to choose your dish and you choose the meat (or other veggies) that you want separately along with a separate section for choosing the sauce that you want. We try to get high quality meals that are healthy, inexpensive and kid-friendly, but we also prefer to patronize small businesses. Oh, yeah. And I forgot to mention that two of us are vegetarians. Needless to say, we don't always hit our goals without vetted recommendations. A few days ago, we were traveling through Maryland at lunch time and found Los Compadres with the help of Yelp. This place was so amazing that we left wishing we didn't live 3 hours away. In fact, we might build this place into our next Baltimore/DC road trip. We showed up at 11:30 on a Saturday -- they had about four full tables while we were there and a trim staff. The service was exceptional and personal. Every dish and staple ingredient -- from the guacamole to the mole sauce -- was fresh. Nothing was pre made, dry or over cooked. The mole sauce on my dish was probably the best I had ever had. This is also a small business where the co-owner works on a Saturday and stops by tables to thank customers for stopping in. It feels good to support that. read more

I am from San Diego and was thrilled to see carne asada fries in the menu. I wanted to try a little bit of everything and went for the pozole, tacos de asada, lengua, and barbacoa and everything was delicious and on point. I also ordered a sope and was surprised it came with a little sauce, when I asked the server she said it was vinegar, I thought it was odd and put it to the side, later I realized it was Jalapeno vinegar, added it to the sope and tasted great. She was too busy to properly attend to me. My drink was empty for half of my meal and she forgot to bring me chips and salsa until I asked for it. Right out of the gate, the chips were not light and crispy with just the right amount of salt, but thicker and flavorless. Tostitos would have been an improvement. It was Fajita Friday, so both my son and I ordered those...One chicken and one steak. My steak was cooked nicely, but didn't have any seasoning. The chicken was quite dry, and though you could see the seasoning, you couldn't taste it. The flour tortillas didn't have that soft, freshly made feel to them. They were starting to get dry and hard. I like fajitas sizzling hot and fresh. Not happening with these . Rice and beans were similar to what you buy on the shelf and make at home. My husband had soft tacos with shrimp and pickled cabbage. He enjoyed them, but didn't bother eating the taco, just the insides. Something is missing. Not sure what "Mexicali" means, but my deduction means "lack of flavor". read more

My husband and I had dinner @ Los Compadres on Saturday evening. The place was not crowded, it was clean and we were greeted right away. There was only one waitress on duty but everything seemed to go very smoothly. I had the empanadas and they were amazing. Great flavor in the filling and it was served with a sauce that had a nice kick to it...mmmmm. My husband had the fajita salad w/chicken and enjoyed the nice flavors. I also had a chimichanga, it was so good. Usually, chimis are covered in sauce, this place let me have the sauce on the side and for me that is the ticket. I like the chimi to stay crunchy the whole meal so adding the sauce as I needed it was perfect. I also had a margarita on the rocks the taste was great but it was mostly ice, that was the only downside. I can't wait to go back and try some more taste sensations!! read more

This place had the best carnitas empanada i've ever had. The way the meat was prepared was amazing. Perfect texture, just the right amount of charring. The ranchero sauce was also very good, and the margarita was perfect. Guacamole and salsa with chips were great. The place has a nice interior, nothing too fancy but not a "hole in the wall" feel either. The waitress taking care of us was attentive and patient in explaining the menu to us. As soon as i saw that despite being located in a strip mall, los compadres had their own custom awning sign, I had high hopes, and they were fulfilled. I have not been here since it was taken over by new management. What a difference! The food is much better and they offer it several different ways, including "North of the border" tacos with lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese, or traditional Mexican style. I picked up carry out and for the family ordered a Quesadilla, tacos with black beans and the yellow rice, a taco salad, and a kids taco with tots. I also saw they had street corn but did not know that when I ordered so I will go back and try it later. They also have a sign that Tuesday is Taco Tuesday so I will definitely be back there this Tuesday! read more
