A bunch of classmates talked up Los Cuates, so I decided to pay them a visit! It was quite empty during my random weekend lunch. It mostly seemed like one hard-working woman running the front and back of house, minus the cooks, so be patient. The chips and salsa were excellent. I enjoyed the Carne Asada Plate I ordered, especially the Carne Asada! The rice, beans, and guac were alright but paired well. I had enough for leftovers and overall would come back again for a comforting Mexican meal. read more

Don't order from here. Their online ordering said they opened at 6 am. I ordered some breakfast burritos for work, the site said they would be ready by 6:15 am. I showed up and they were closed. The hours on their door also said 6am. When I called to get a refund I was told they would refund the money and they never did. Don't trust the online ordering or the staff!! read more

Since discovering Los Cuates last winter, we have been there once to dine in and five times for takeout. I've recommended it to everyone I know on this side of town. TL:DR this is the best-priced and tastiest no-frills Mexican food I have found in Denver. You can pay a lot more for hipster ambiance and hit-or-miss attempts at being "contemporary" or "innovative," but I'll stick to Los Cuates. What's good? Cheese enchiladas with red--The red Chile is Hot and the closest thing to New Mexican I can ask for in Denver. They may try and talk you out of it like many Thai joints do. Don't listen. These are my favorite in Denver (Sorry, Santos) and at $7.99 with rice/beans, I don't expect a challenger. Asada--Grilled to bring the classic taste I expect, this goes well in tacos with cilantro/onion and in a smothered burrito with either the spicy red or tasty green Chile. Bonus: They merrily serve items Christmas to allow a celebration of both. Adobada--Less spicy than expected, but robust. Refried beans deliver legit flavor and fluffy, spicy rice usually comes with them. Bland they are not. Food is consistently ready in 10 minutes, whether dining in or picking up. The owner, "Papa," is friendly and has been in the biz for a long time, What's not good? TBD. We've liked everything so far. I look forward to trying breakfast, pupusas, and tamales (regular or Salvadoran) at some point, but those enchiladas are hard to resist. Five stars for taste, quality, and value. read more

I believe I found the unicorn awesome'hole in the wall Mexican restaurant'! I tried the beef enchiladas in red Chile with rice and beans. It was very tasty and tasted what I imagine good authentic Mexican fare would taste! The red Chile, even though they say its spicy, is very flavorfull and just the right amount of spicy! I have made red chile from scratch and I can tell what's good, and they red chili is awesome as many other Yelpers would attest! I can't wait to come back and try something else! read more

Ok yelpers, I'm gonna let you in on a little secret okay?? But you have to promise not to tell anyone about this place. Because when the rest of Denver finds out that this is some of the best Mexican food in town, more people are going to come here, there will be long wait for tables, and it'll be hard for me to find a seat. And wet can't have that. So keep it to yourself that the red chili is super delicious and super spicy and isn't an excellent accompaniment for the super delicious cheesy enchiladas. Also the asada burrito with green chili is to die for, and when people find out about it, they are going to want to come here in large groups and it will overpopulate the restaurant and again, it will make it difficult for me to find a table. Small store front with minimal seating. Hardly any parking and you'll pass it if you don't slow down and really look. Fresh made New Mexican and Arizona style Mexican food. They have a huge menu complete with breakfast, lunch and fresh juices with real fruit in them. Each of us ordered something different and no one had complaints. Not for the weak when it comes to spice level. I recommend getting the special drinks they serve up, especially in a hot day. The prices are right on for Mexican food. Service was fast and friendly. Well, since I've spent so much time lately extolling the virtues of Taw Win, it's time to tell you about an equally enthralling experience conveniently right next door - namely, the Salvadoran and Mexican dishes on offer at the fairly new Los Cuates. "Hang on - they have Salvadoran food there too?", I hear you inquire (and very politely too, I might add). Yes they do - and the humble versions on offer at LC are truly the pride of El Pulgarcito. Have you ever tried a Pan con Pollo? I know, "bread with chicken" may not sound terribly exciting, but you'll find that these sumptuous sandwiches (generally offered at the weekend) are simply stuffed with pleasantly piquant poultry, offset with coolingly crisp cabbage, radish, and cucumber. LC has also been winning raves for their pupusas - but of course! - and I think you'll be impressed no matter whether your griddled cornmeal purse contains squash, shrimp, or pork/beans/cheese - to name but a few options. Or, what about a magnificently moist tamale, traditionally steamed in banana or plantain leaves and sold singly or by the dozen? As you can see, the eatery excels at a number of great Guanaco goodies so there's really no excuse not to try any or all of them out.... is there? But if you were in a more Mexican frame of mind today, don't worry, because I've enjoyed that section of the menu on my visits too. The burrito stuffed with chile-marinated pork (or rather, Carne Adobada) is huge! And luckily, it tastes just as good as it looks. Speaking of burritos, LC showcases a number of more breakfasty options you might like too, containing ham, hotdogs, chorizo.... Then again, a big bowl of the warming beef soup Caldo de Res is always a good choice when the weather's as unpredictable as it's been lately - especially when you consider that your selection comes with both rice and tortillas alongside. If you're particularly peckish, you can even snack on a whole fried fish (they do have a pre-filleted option as well, for those seeking something a bit lower-maintenance). Even the chile cheese fries are flavorful, whether you prefer green, red, or a bit of both. Add a cup of refreshing mango/pineapple water, and your lunch or dinner at LC is truly complete. read more

Horribly disappointing experience. First time we tried this place, we thought it was just ok but came back a second time because the place is empty all the time and figured we'd give them our business. Well, probably a reason it's empty all the time. I ordered about $100 of to go including a pint of salsa and guac only to get home and they forgot to give us any chips. All the entrees ordered were ALL incorrect, of course discovered once we were home and hungry. It wasn't someone else's order as it was fajitas and pulpulsas but not the type we ordered. Both had incorrect proteins and and again, NO CHIPS when you've ordered an entire pint of salsa and guac! The food doesn't have much flavor either. We will never be back! read more

The green vs red chili didn't really turn out the way they described (supposedly the green chili was mild, not so) but I loved it. There were so many things wrong, but it was just so good.
