Running errands in the area, I stopped by a few minutes after they opened at 11am on a weekday. The atmosphere is cheery, with lots of bright colors. Service was very friendly and personable. As I was there, a lot of regulars came in and were greeted warmly. Always a good sign. The complementary chips and salsa were just okay, but I did enjoy the refried beans they included. I went with the Combination Los Dos Hermanos, which features some Salvadoran dishes. It comes with a pupusa filled with shredded pork and cheese and a tamale filled with chicken. The pupusa is kind of like a tortilla packet. I found mine to be very delicious, with yummy pork and rich cheese. The tamale was good too. I loved the tangy cabbage salad that came with the main dishes, and the fried yucca root was super tasty too. The rice was okay, and the beans were good; I think they might have been red silk beans, but I am not sure about that. I was checked in on a few times, and it was a great lunch experience. Stopped in for lunch while visiting a friend nearby. She loves this restaurant and recommended I give it a try. She even had a dish in mind she thought I would enjoy. She was right! We walked in around 11:30 on a Monday. We were greeted with a smile. It wasn't too busy yet, which was perfect because we were seated right away. The decor is very authentic. It made you feel like you were vacationing in South America. We both ordered the Pollo a la Crema. I don't recall seeing this dish on a menu before, but it was delicious! The chicken breast was cooked in a cream cheese style sauce that was seasoned perfectly. You have the option of flour or corn homemade tortillas. They were fabulous! A strange experience. The waitress seemed disengaged. I am Anglo but like and tolerate pepper heat. The pico de gallo that came with the (very good) chips was like blended canned tomatoes and was so pepper hot I only took one scoop. I mean nuclear, and I thought it would spoil my meal, but a rinse from the glass of water saved the day. The Cadillac margarita was unpalatable and $16, the enchilada special unremarkable, but the lunch entrees are right-sized and economical. You don't get an itemized bill, but the checker does the math as you leave. I prefer Keizer to Salem and have been trying to assemble a suite of venues, but I have no intentions of returning here. read more

This is one of our favorite spots when we come to town. It's cute, small,and quaint. The services is always friendly. Just know if you come on a weekend they're pretty packed. The food is delicious. We had a large party and were split, some sat at a nearby table. The service was not very good, never got a refill on my water, nor were we asked if everything was good. The menu prices online are different than in the restaurant. By the time some peoples food came out others were done eating. I ordered fajitas, the beans and rice were brought to me well before the actual tortillas. The tomatoes in the pico did not taste fresh. The flour tortillas were not good and the beef for the fajitas has a weird taste and was chewy. Three people in the party got the camarones con mango, the smell of mango was strong at the table--very sweet. Only one of the three was truly satisfied with that dish. One person ordered a enchilada and tamale saying that they didnt like the sauce it was swimming in, that it tasted like watered down tomato soup. They do not accommodate dietary restrictions, so if you have any...ask in detail about what you require. I know it all sounds very negative. The rice and beans were decent. I came here for my birthday with my family, and unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. The waitress was kind and welcoming (the only positive part), but overall the service was poor. I ordered the Dos Hermanos combination. The yuca was hard, the tamale was just okayish, not the best, but the pupusa meat was clearly spoiled. It had a bad smell and taste not strong enough to look "rotten," but definitely gone bad. I almost got sick. I know what spoiled food tastes like, and this wasn't normal. This wasn't about preference it was unsafe. I told the waitress, who said she'd inform her mom, but no one ever came to check on us. That made the situation even worse. It was a $20 plate, and I wasn't going to pay for food that could make me sick. Because of the spoiled food and lack of follow-up. Is the reason I am giving them a 1 start, because I cant give them less. Restaurants should be using fresh ingredients at ALL times. read more

I've avoided reviewing our very favorite places locally (selfish, I know, but I hate crowded restaurants). This local family restaurant is a complete gem. The owner (like many, we just call her Abuelita, because she's an adopted grandmother to us) is fantastic, the service is excellent, and the food top shelf. The secret here is to order Salvadoran dishes. Their plátanos are always fresh, never unripe or woody; the pupusas are perfect, the curtido and rice with red beans super tasty. Tried this place for the first time tonight. I wanted to like this restaurant. The place was busy and the atmosphere inviting. The owner was there entertaining all the patrons. My wife and I sat down and enjoyed the chips and salsa and beans but I wasn't feeling well (fairly recent gastrointestinal surgery) so we took our order to go. When I started feeling better about 45 minutes later, I dug in to my carne asada burrito. About halfway through I noticed something hard and jagged mixed in with the carne asada. Out of my mouth, I pull a shard of glass... We took the food back and the owner was embarrassed and apologetic. She asked us to return and to give the business a second chance which I normally would. But then I looked at what they have been dinged for by the health inspectors...food storage problems. What I imagined happened is that the carne asada was stored without a lid and a glass was shattered and some of that shattered glass made its way into the uncovered carne asada container. Now I am hoping and praying I didn't eat any glass that got by me in the first half of the burrito. I will not be dining at Los Dos Hermanos again. read more

I always eat from the Salvadorian menu at this restaurant. We love their pupusas and yucca, plated with a side of slaw. And the fried plantains are to die for. Those who are used to Mexican style tamales will feel that those served here are a bit "mushy." In reality, their texture reflects different cooking methods. Though both are steamed, Salvadorian cooks wrap their tamales in banana leaves instead of corn husks. The extra moisture of the banana leaves results in a less firm texture in the finished product. read more

I haven't been here in years since I moved away but was back recently and decided to try it. The food was just as good as I remembered. The service, not so much. We waited for a very long time to have our order taken. My husband never got the soda he ordered, we had to ask another wait staff for it. No one ever came to offer a refill, we had to wait and ask for that as well. And no one ever refilled our water. The lunch specials seemed a little pricey but the food was good. This place was recommended to me by some special friends in Portland. They would make the trip to Keizer every couple of months to get their fix, so I thought it must be pretty good. It is! They start you out with warm bean dip, chips, and delicious salsa while you attempt to decide what you want from the extensive menu which features both Mexican and Salvadoran specialties. My father grew up on the border of Mexico and was VERY picky about one of his favorite foods. We love the atmosphere and the food, but although the staff is very friendly, there were a couple of times when we felt a little neglected by the waitresses. At least once they just plain forgot to bring the drink I ordered, but overall it was always a positive experience.
