Went for a walk in Cool, CA today. Before we left, we went into this Mexican Restaurant for some chips & salsa. This is authentic Mexican food. The salsa red, green, & Pico de Gallo. Each one was very good. I tasted notes of chocolate & probably cinnamon, like my Chili Colorado in the red. I was so surprised with that flavor. It's usually just tomatoes with a little heat. Even the green was special. The Pico de Gallo too. The chips, they were awesome. By the way, their water was also extra special. A definite 10 out of 10. Driving to and from the middle of nowhere for work, we stumbled across this place. When we walked in, it was deserted- Not a good sign. We ordered our food and waited patiently. Food came in timely and looked better than I imagined. The torta I had was just spot on. Beats any I had in all of el dorado county. Someone ordered pozole and it was alright. Not great but close to home. Tacos dorados/ check this out- had too much meat on them. That would have been great except that it was just boiled chicken that lacked some seasoning. Had it been cooked led a bit with onion, salt and pepper, and other spices, that would have been a winner. Now, I would not go out of my way to eat here, but if I'm close and there are other options, I'd be happy to bypass them to get here. read more

Was craving some Mexican food and saw this place had decent reviews. In short this is serviceable food but nothing about it was remarkable. Ordered a cheese enchilada and tamale. The enchilada was basic with what appeared to be canned sauce. The tamale wasn't good at all. There was little pork and the masa was covered in a green sauce. Service was good and the inside has tables but like its food - not remarkable. Respectfully it's not a repeat for me. read more

Hubs and I had lunch here today and it was authentic and wonderful!! I tried the chili Verde and a chicken enchilada...told me everything I needed to know!! Hubs had a chili relleno and pork tamale...he was in heaven! They make their own hot sauces and I bought some to bring home. I look forward to my next visit so I can try some churro! The portion sized was definitely much smaller than I expected but it was quite tasty. Had the carne asada fries topped with guacamole, sour cream, cheese and pico de gallo. We came here for dinner takeout because of all the excellent reviews. I wish our food had been 5 stars, but sadly it was not. I can't say this was the worst Mexican food I've ever had, but it was certainly the worst chile verde of my life. I'm so glad I ordered a chile relleno as back-up because that was at least edible. The carne asada burrito and carne asada plate were ok. The biggest issue with this place is that the food is super bland. Here I'll say it in Spanish so they can take my feedback to heart: La comida está bien desabrida. Le faltó sal a todo, especialmente a las salsas. El chile verde no sabia a nada. Es pecado cocinar un chile verde tan desabrido. El problema que ustedes tienen es que están preparando la comida para un paladar gringo. Le falta sazón a todos sus platillos. Nosotros somos mexicanos y sabemos cómo debe de saber la comida. Como le ponen queso amarillo cheddar a un sope? No manchen. Ustedes bien saben que se debe usar queso fresco. My wife and I tried this spot for the first time and were pleasantly surprised. They do a brisk take-out business; we ate in, in a quiet, comfortable booth. The service was quick and the server pleasant. Everything, chips, salsa, tortillas, sides and entres, was very freshly made and delicious. I had a chile verde plate and my wife had a 'Drew's Salad' topped with a nice blend of chorizo and asada. Prices were reasonable. Pretty dang good. We ordered 4 carne tacos street style 2 hot 2 mild 4/5 I personally like a flash fry of my corn tortillas but these were just grilled. We also ordered mix fajitas with flour tortillas. These were also good but missed having guacamole, sour cream and pico that normally comes with. Now to the ice cream lol... my kids and I stop here often for ice cream and the last time we did they had a raspberry sorbet that was sooo good! Everything is price well. read more

My BFF and I went here last night - super yummy food! I had two tacos with al pastor and the meat was delicious tacos were very perfectly crunchie but not real greasy! Beans and rice were good, I should have asked for a tad more pick on them - but I used the stuff that fell out of my tacos and put it on them. My BFF had nachos with no meat so they added extra bell peppers and onions. She said they were good - I had the leftover peppers and onions with my leftover beans and rice this morning for breakfast- very tasty. Loved the service here also, very friendly and helpful!! Driving home from Sacramento, we suddenly had a craving for some Mexican cuisine. Yelp offered up Los Establos in Cool. A quick look at their menu clinched the deal with my keto co-pilot, as an entire section of the menu was dedicated to low carb offerings. After a beautiful 15 minute drive by the American River, we walked into a charming little place (described as cabin-like by a six year old patron at another table) and ordered our food. I got the surf and turf burrito and a pair of street tacos. She got a burrito bowl. We were both impressed by the flavor, portion sizes and the kindness of the staff and locals. Just moved to the area and didn't feel like cooking. Great selection on their menu. Thought the prices were a little high, but I gave it a shot. Nice customer service and homey feeling. Not too loud either. I ordered nachos with grilled chicken, no guacamole and pinto beans (instead of refried). Huge portion, more toppings than chips and perfect amount of everything. I destroyed the nachos and yearned to lick the plate in front of the patrons. Delicious and food stupids are in high gear. Some of the best nachos I've ever had. With a Jarritos was $14. The food here is overall very good. From street tacos to chili relleno's to their enchiladas all good. The reason for one less star is I have found a toothpick twice in the chili rellenos (it is how the relleno is held together but can be dangerous. Also, just found 1 small and 1 good size rock in the refried beans, luckily I did not bite down on it or I'd be at the dentist tomorrow. Bottom line- good food overall, the cook needs to be more careful with things like toothpicks and small rocks in beans. read more

Some of the best Mexican food in the whole greater Sacramento area is right here. So glad this place is here making authentic Mexican food that has great proportionate sizes! The carnitas taste amazingly fresh, the carne asada is delicious, the grilled chicken has a delectable marinade, and the al pastor has a very unique flavor with pineapple that makes it scrumptious. My wife, adult son and I come here once in a while. Long drive for us. I don't do many reviews. We stopped in the other day and wife ordered the hamburger with guacamole. As others have stated it is very good. I ate half as wife was full. I ordered carnitas nachos. Best presentation I've had. Most places pike chips high and put goodies on top of that. Bottom layers of chips get nada most places. These were presented flatter, at most 2 layers of chips. All had toppings on them. I also had crispy carnitas taco that was tasty. Son had 3 soft tacos and the asada fries which were a very nice surprise. We plan to try to get there more often. The people who run the place have always been friendly and accommodating. read more
