I would give this 0 stars if possible. Which i feel bad about because of the servers who work there were not bad at all. But since we waited for over an hour for our food, we asked to speak to a manager. Then some lady, who wasn't a manager or server, said that the manager was in the back cooking because they were short staffed. Then, this lady comes back and tries to give us our check with 1 drink discounted but that isnt what we asked for. We wanted to speak to a manager. So we go back and fourth and one person in our party goes up to this lady who is by the kitchen and says that we would really like to speak to the manager, to which this lady replies, that he is not here right now. So she basically just lied to us and on top of that she said she was going to call the cops on us, which i do not understand because we were not being loud, we were not being disrespectful and we were not refusing to pay. We just wanted to speak to the manager. So instead of waiting for the cops and causing a bigger situation than just basically asking for an apology at this point, which we were told that she will not apologize to us yet she was demanding respect??? What? We decided to pay our bill and leave. Long story short, the management will treat you like garbage and probably threaten to have the cops called on you. Ps. Sorry for your servers and cooks who have to deal with that type of environment from the management. Not sure why there are so many horrible reviews here. I thought the food was amazing. It could be people just don't know what to order here. Ive only had the takeout food here so this review is only based on take out food and not the ambience and service. My landscaper was working in my yard when i happened to be doing spring cleaning in the garage. I ended up giving him so many electronics and household items he brought me food from Los Fernandez and it was amazing. When he asked me what i wanted i said something about burritos and tacos and he refused. He got me what he got for himself which was "camarones al mojo" and a bunch of drinks. The tortillas was great. The salsas were tasty too. He said entrées are the way to go. Tip: he said the Elmhurst location is great for rotisserie chicken. read more

I wish I could rate this place in the negatives. My reason is due to management, not the waiters/waitresses. Management was rude and I couldn't believe how unprofessional they were. Instead of apologizing to their customers, which I think would be necessary after taking an hour and more for the food to be served, they threatened to call the cops. We wanted to pay but at least wanted an apology for the HORRIBLE experience and management refused. The women who claimed to be manager said she didn't have authority to give discounts for the long long delay. Then says the one in charge is in the back. So we asked to talk to that person and then her story changes. That was lie 1. She then had the decency to say she will check the computers to see if we were telling the truth if we were there more than an hour. SHE BASICALLY JUST CALLED US THE CUSTOMER A LIAR. Did she ever come back with the computer information? No. Lie number 2 ladies and gentleman. But yet I had proof that I was there for more than an hour because I luckily checked in. I had heard good things about this place, but I'm seldom in the area at mealtime. But today I needed to kill time while tires were installed at the nearby NTB, so an opportunity presented to give it a try. The large dining room was sparsely populated today at lunch time. That made for excellent service from a friendly waiter. The menu had a lot of typical Mexican dishes that you would expect to find. I didn't notice anything that I hadn't seen before. And that was fine with me. Freshly made chips with three kinds of sauce were offered while I looked at the menu. The chips and sauce were quite satisfactory. I ordered the tacos with rice and beans. More types of filling were available than the usual beef or chicken. I ordered the chorizo sausage. The food arrived more quickly than I expected. It was hot and delicious! I found the entire meal and ambience quite pleasing as a lunch location. Perhaps I will be back this way sometime for dinner. read more

Los Fernandez is definitely one of the better Mexican restaurants I have experienced in the Chicago suburbs. Without breaking the bank they deliver food that is exactly what I've come to expect of quality Mexican: savory, with adequate protein, and a good selection of staples and unique items. After making a reservation I brought my friends and family to this restaurant. We had a group of 19 people. They took our order and then forgot about us. We waited 90 minutes to start getting served. They had no idea who ordered which dish. The 19 dishes came out 1 by 1. I finished my meal and the last of the meals was served. Some of the meals were cold and some were burned although my was done correctly. I spoke to Tony our waiter and he told me it was the kitchens fault. That he tried to stay on them but they would not listen. I told Tony he had culpability in the situation and that he should have come to me with the problem so I could decide what to do. I could have easily given no stars but the manager charged me $236 for the drinks only and we did not pay for food. I'm trying to be fair but truthfully I will not go back. I know they have an ethnic following and this review will not make a difference but i felt pretty bad taking my family there and being treated so poorly. When they were in the Schlotzkeys deli Bldg this type of conduct would not have happened. They were always happy to see us and made us feel welcome even though weren't the same ethnicity. I ordered carry out. I got a shrimp tostada and they usually put the shrimp in a container and put the tostada in foil but this time they threw it all together by the time I got home it was soggy. I asked for no cheese on the steak tacos they still put it on. When I got home my food was cold tortillas were stale. Don't waste time getting anything more than basic tacos or burritos. I've been here A few times. Drinks are too overpriced and the food is nothing special. I ordered fajitas a few times and other meat dishes. Each time, my meat was overcooked and burnt and crunchy. They initially said yes then some guy from behind the counter said that they were only doing carry out orders. So we said okay. We started to look at the menu then i went to the bathroom. When I came back, which took a total of about 3 minutes, the cashier had told us that the credit card machine was down. I told the girl that I had cash but then she just told us to leave. The food arrives! 3 items were wrong! Now it's 845 we get the bill 3 items that were never ordered were placed on the bill and the apps that never showed up. Of course they added the tip. Never have had to pay for chips and salsa, but stated that we would be charged-only $1.99, not a huge deal but just was more confused on if we were eating there, we wouldn't pay. This place has amazing food, my dad and I come here at least 2 times a month, maybe once a month. We come when it's not packed. Today was the worst experience! Our waiter I don't know his name by he is short and has glasses. He only took our order brought us drinks and food and vanished. I needed a refill right when he brought our food, didn't ask about refills or come to check on us. He was inside the kitchen area and only came out for another booth that was two booths behind us! Another young waiter who has a beard and is probably new luckily saw me looking and came over and was very friendly. We waited 20 mins for someone to bring us the check. I never write horrible reviews because they have a hard job but it's 5pm on a Tuesday and pictures show that it's dead! This place sucked. I ordered a steak burrito, with onions, jalapeno, and cilantro, they brought back a burrito with none of that. The waiter David said do you want me to bring the veggies on the side. I said no but would appreciate another burrito made the right way but of course it came back with extra beans and nothing else. We have lived in Streamwood for over a decade and have tried every single Mexican restaurant/takeout that has opened up and this is by far the best food/customer service around. Any other place they lack seasoning on their meat, this place does not. Salt not needed but be careful of the red sauce, unless you would like your tongue on fire. Regardless, my fiancé went into the restaurant to order food and he was told it would be a 10 minute wait. He went to the car and five minutes later a lovely woman came to his car with the bag of our food for him. Talk about wonderful customer service, it can't be beat! The food is absolutely delicious and I cannot rave more about the customer service! I TRIED: - Bistec a la Mexicana (4/10) - Lomo en Chili de Arbol (10/10) - Chips & Salsa Trio (10/10) - Al Pastor Tacos (9/10) - Other tacos (7/10) - Steak Fajitas (10/10) - Chile Relleno (9/10) (Reposting/Updating this review, because they moved, and the old page doesn't come up anymore). I had just gone to Hartland, WI and ate at some random Mexican joint there that I had been raving to all my friends about how I had the best Mexican food in some super podunk town in Wisconsin. Granted, I had tried something new there, so it may have been that it wasn't the restaurant itself, but just the dish. The dish was Bistec a la Mexicana. Sounds like "biscuit" but the description said steak so I got it. I'll explain later, but that was the whole reason why I came to this place...to try out Bistec a la Mexicana to see if I'd like it here. Well.. BISTEC A LA MEXICANA No. I didn't like it. It tasted and looked NOTHING like what I had out in Hartland! It was bland, not spicy, and just disappointing. Now, maybe the Wisconsin version of it was the American way and this was the authentic way, who knows. Whatever the case was, this wasn't what I wanted. CHIPS & SALSA TRIO After having been so disappointed that the closest sit down Mexican joint near work had bad Bistec, what kept us coming back was the Chips & Salsa. The chips are freshly fried, and sometimes a bit greasy, but they are usually hot, fresh, and oh so crunchy (my favorite)! The chips by themselves are just amazing, but then there're the 3 salsas. There's a creamy green one (tomatillo I think), a red-orange one, and a chunky red one. When we go (2 of us), we end up eating 2 baskets of chips. In that time, I probably dunk 1 chip in the red-orange, 2 chips in the chunky red, and the rest in the green. I can't quite explain it, because all 3 salsas are unlike anything I've ever had. The orange has this reeeeeeeeeeeealy faint tangyness to it. Nothing that'll make you salivate or anything, but it's just a little weird. The red chunky looks like Tostitos or something, but it's actually a bit sweeter than that, and lacks salt. It's ok, but just pales in comparison to the green one. The consistency is thicker than the others, but nowhere near guacomole. If you spooned it on your plate, it would definitely not keep its shape. The best part, is that it's sometimes got a real healthy kick to it, which puts me in this like blood thirsty mode where I start devouring chips unknowingly! It's great stuff! If it wasn't for these, we would've stopped coming after the first day. LOMO EN CHILI DE ARLBOL ...and I'm glad we didn't stop, because eventually I stumbled across this. No idea what the name means (something about a forest chili?), but THIS is what Bufu, WI's Bistec looked like. It's thin slices of steak in a spicy red sauce, along with rice and beans. The flavor is just perfect! The spice varies day to day, but it never disappoints, and sometimes it's really cookin and I break into a downpour of sweat...but I love it! It's hot too (temperature-wise). I'm not a tortilla fan, so I usually neglect those completely. I'll basically scoop some of the beef/sauce/veggies (the dish is light on veggies...i like that) on the rice and just eat it like that. OMG It's so delicious! Now, I successfully finished a ghost-chili wings challenge, so that'll give you some idea of my spice tolerance, and this dish can, at times, give me a run for my money, but then again, sometimes, I won't even break a sweat. Just be careful if you're not used to spicy things. There is the faintest bit of tang in the sauce too, but nothing like the orange salsa. It's seasoned well, and the steak is cooked perfectly everytime. This is my favorite dish here! TACOS When coworkers and I feel like being healthy-but not too healthy, we come here for the lunch special tacos. It's a great deal! $5.25 for 2 tacos (any kind), rice, beans, and bottomless chips & salsa trio. The $5.25 is almost good just with the chips! I order my tacos with onions and cilantro instead of the lettuce, tomato, etc. Their chicken is about as good as any other chicken taco I've had, so I'm not sure how that rates. I've had a lot of their tacos, but the best ones were the Carne Asada and Al Pastor. The Carne Asada steak is great! The steak is packed with flavor, smokey and garlic/herb-y. The Al Pastor is so good! The red sauce that it's marinaded in has a peppery taste and has the perfect balance of salt to make it one irresistible taco! FAJITAS I hope I have room. The steak in that taco is the center stage in the fajitas, and that's why it gets 10/10. I've never had such good steak in a fajita... CHILE RELLENO Their poblanos are big, beautifully egg battered, and the perfect amount of cheese to not overpower the whole thing, but give it so much buttery goodness that only chihuahua cheese can provide! Wow. Absolutely remarkable. I went in there tonight and the place was completely packed (great authentic atmosphere) so I ordered a customized steak burrito for carry out. The waitress who took my order was very pleasant and quoted me an estimated 10 minute wait time. After only 5 minutes my order was ready. It was exactly as I ordered it, the steak was juicy and amazingly flavorful, it left me full but still wanting another.! I can't believe how quickly my order was ready even on such a busy night.!
