I stopped by Los Hermanos for a lunch meeting yesterday, and parking on Center Street was surprisingly easy. Even though we didn't have a reservation for our group of three, we were seated quickly, but arriving right before a large party meant our table was a bit forgotten, leading to a longer-than-expected wait for both food and the check. Once the meal arrived, though, the three-item combo plate -- cheese enchilada, chile relleno, and beef taco -- was enjoyable and on par with what you'd expect from a solid Mexican restaurant. The horchata was a standout: thick, cold, and packed with cinnamon flavor. The restaurant itself has plenty of space and leans heavily into a classic Mexican-restaurant aesthetic, which adds to the fun, casual vibe. Despite the slow service, the overall experience was good enough that I'd definitely return, especially for a relaxed lunch with plenty of time to spare. read more

Great for large groups and the service was excellent! Both the host and our server (Boston) were polite and professional. It was refreshing to actually have staff who seemed to be well trained, vs so many places these days where the service is lack-luster and/or unprofessional. The pork tequenos and chili verde were very good and we would recommend- they both had a lot of flavor! A lot of reviews say the food was bland... it's not spicy, but we didn't think it was bland. I would describe it as good comforting "American Mexican" food. Personally I didn't think the chips and salsa were great, but I appreciated that they brought them out. I love Mexican food and have been to a lot of different restaurants over the years. This one was a miss because of the food the salsa was like straight up tomato paste not flavorful at all. I also ordered the chimichanga which was small and not very flavorful. Look, I should've been tipped off by the fact that every person in this "Mexican" restaurant was white and the fact that the booths were labeled with such names as Craig, Stacey, and Kelly, but I was hungry and we needed to eat. This is a great place to eat for people who think pepper is living dangerously. The food lacked anything related to spice or seasoning and was as plain as the geography in Kansas. The decor looks like someone decided to try and hit every Mexican stereotype one could hit, yet they had American flags and ribbons all over, which was weird and seemed like it was done to make some kind of point. The service was fine, but the server was quiet, which matched the overall lifeless atmosphere. The most appalling aspect of our dinner was the guacamole. Our server asked if we wanted some with our chips and "salsa." I impulsively said yes. What was brought to our table was a small bowl of puréed avocados with zero seasoning. As one who likes avocado chunks in my guac, this was as smooth as butter. While the guac wasn't anything special, I was shocked when getting the bill and seeing that we were charged $8.49 for it. Yes, I should've paid closer attention to the menu, but the way we were asked as an afterthought, it would've been nice to know that it would cost more than one hour of minimum wage labor. This was truly an experience that will never be repeated, as I cannot fathom any circumstances that would find me back at this restaurant. Should have checked with Yelp before we sat down. Food was not authentic, rice was undercooked with hard pieces. Salsa was bland. The taco shell looked like it was purchased in a box from a grocery store and the taquitos looked like they we previously frozen with little seasoning. Very disappointed. Despite what other reviewers say about authenticity and all that, my wife and I really loved this place 20 years ago. We used to come weekly. We had regular servers who knew us and took great care of us. It was our poor-starving-college-student splurge restaurant because it was such a great deal. It had continued to be our favorite restaurant our entire marriage. Then inflation hit. Prices rose quickly and it feels like they rose higher than what standard inflation really is and higher than other restaurants. It's no longer a great deal. My typical meal went up $6 here. My wife loves mexican food, but I'm not a big fan of mexican food but I found something I really liked. Combined with the specialty drinks it was a great meal at a great deal. It's just too expensive now. I'm no longer excited to go here. We went for father's day after a long drought of frequenting this place. When walking into Los Hermanos, you are warmly welcomed and taken in by the highly visual decor. You are transported to another place with the windows, arches, tables, plants. If you have a large group, there is an impressive and massive round table just waiting to host a party. Looks continue further when the food comes out everything looks fantastic and overflowing, but there is a lack of flavor in these dishes. It looked so good that it heightened my disappointment. Now my son and mother both enjoyed their dishes and I did enjoy the berry drink. We had the. Nachos and a chimichanga with pork chili verde, both had meat that was tender but flavor that underwhelmed. I did not even eat the food. I went in for the interview, got there 10 minutes early, and then waited 40 minutes past my scheduled interview time before I just left. They seemed to have little respect for anyone's time as interviews were scheduled in 15 minute intervals but took over half an hour to complete. My husband and I tried the re-opened Provo Los Hermanos today. The restaurant was mostly empty, yet they made us wait 15-20 minutes because the waiters were "busy". The tables are placed in very strange ways, like in doorways and walkways, very uncomfortable. For a re-open, you'd think it would be clean and furniture would be new. You'd be sadly mistaken. Our table was old, dingy, and wobbly. The high chair was filthy, covered in weeks worth of food, window sills covered in dust, food crumbs and plant dander. Our waitress was so sweet, she was clean, respectful, and willing to help/get us whatever we needed. The Horchata was milk with some cinnamon, the chips great and fresh, salsa..crushed tomatoes with some sugar and the "guacamole" was just some avocado paste, no seasoning, no cilantro, onion or pico. We don't eat pork and the beans had lard, so I asked for a meal without the beans. When it came out, I moved some rice around and noticed a layer of beans underneath. I told the waitress, but chose to eat around it, avoiding more than half the plate. The manager walked around, never approaching a table, never coming over when I'm sure she heard of the bean incident, and we still paid full price. Safe to say, we won't be returning. Used to love Los Hermanos, but this was a horrible dining experience. It's evident they're short staffed, but honestly, they should probably shut down or limit hours until staffed up. Everything was dirty, nothing felt clean. The hostess was the one clearing the tables - she was a rockstar. Buuuut I don't feel like hostesses should be clearing tables. Table was dirty, but we tried to get over it. High chair was dirty and had food it, tried getting over that. Service was super slow which we expected given the short staff. But the food was also disappointing. My burrito was the size of a frozen microwaveable burrito, rice and beans tasted old. If you're charging ~$15 a plate, you gotta up the portion sizes. I went here years ago with my family and we got a couple of large nachos plates to share. It was delicious and I remembered thinking I would definitely come back. It took me like 5 years but I did make it back and I ordered the large plate of nachos from my memory without even looking at the menu. It was as big as I remember but no where as yummy. Los Hermanos is straight nostalgia for me. Growing up, this was one of my family's favorite restaurants. The chips and salsa never disappoint. We always wear our Los Hermanos shirts and get free drinks. Word to the wise - La Brisa is by far the best. Trust me. Their chicken taquitos are amazing. (They're more like flautas than thin and crispy rolled taquitos.) The chicken is moist and flavorful - add some salsa to each bite and you're set. We also really love the shrimp fajitas!! Please do not eat here if you like Mexican food--at least at this Provo location. You are literally better off going to Cafe Rio and Costa Vida if you prefer Mexican food that is not spicy. When I saw it placed in front of me I was actually shocked because I am so used to torta chicken being breaded, not grilled. Either way if choosing one or the other was even an option the waiter did not let me know and it didn't specify in the menu. It was not flavorful AT ALL and I feel like the meat/chicken in the torta is the most important part--despite everything else that goes in a torta. I really hope they get better recipes--and whoever they get the recipes from I hope they give them the % they deserve. My friend and I wanted to try this place out despite the reviews and we really regretted it afterwards. I will say the waiters are really sweet but they aren't good at checking up on you--at least that's the service that we specifically received. The restaurant interior is amazing! But at that point I would rather this place be a venue or something with the time and effort that went into the interior layout because it is truly so good, but the food quite literally ruins it all. I recommend el gallo giro just down the street from here for better food. It's not as pretty in the inside but the food is absolutely amazing at that specific location. Thought I would try it as it is close. The first thing I did wrong was look inside the place. When I picked up my son called Verde burrito. I saw no one. I asked the lady there if they had extra salsa as 99.9% of Mexican restaurants have that and give it freely if you order food from them. We decided to pop in to Los Hermanos, for old times sake. I've been here about five times before, but it had been ten years since I'd been back. Recent reviews seemed rather scathing, and so I made a point for us to go here to see if it was as bad as they'd said, or if they were just getting a bad rap. The food is made fresh, handmade refried beans, shredded beef (cooked to perfection, IMO). There's a lot to like about this place. Unfortunately the sauces are quite bland or sharp and totally miss the mark. Hardly any spice/flavor. We had excellent service, and the restaurant was clean, our food was fresh and from scratch, fast too. Three stars for all of that. I can't give any more stars because of how bland the salsa and dishes were. Kudos for handmade food, but their recipes need a serious makeover. We won't be back, sorry. read more

I haven't been to any Los Hermanos in years so I decided to give this newer location a try. It's pretty much as I remember it, overpriced Utah-style Mexican food with bland flavors and lackluster presentation. I asked what their most popular items were on our waitress recommended the burrito. So boring. It's about half the size of most burritos at places like this. The tortilla was dry and flavorless. I don't think they even make their own tortillas. It tasted like it came from a package, thin and flour-y. The shredded beef inside wasn't bad though. Salt and pepper tasting beef that had been cooked forever but at least there was some flavor. The topping sour cream was nice but the guacamole was one of the worst I've had in a long while. Tasted store bought. The beans were okay but mostly tasted like they came from a can but the rice was one of the worst Mexican rice's I've ever had. Bland and bitter. The chips are weird - mealy and dense - and the salsa they serve it with basically tastes like tomato sauce. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I've known this restaurant since I was a kid. We always love coming here as a family. We know the owners from across the street. Sad their restaurant got burned and had to relocate. So happy that they are still doing well. Always proud of their food and how pleased we are every time we come. The food is delicious and never disappoints us. While waiting for our table we heard the waitresses talking about a table who found bones in their chimichangas & that turned us off quite a bit but decided to give them a chance. I asked my waiter what dish to avoid any bones & she suggested the chicken tacos as they're made with different chicken. We were brought 2 plain tortillas with chicken on them. My partner took one bite and couldn't chew half of it- couldn't decide if it was bone or ligament. The waitress checked on us & we said we were going to leave & showed her the bite uneaten. She apologized, said that's disgusting, and she's always embarrassed when bringing meals out... she brought the check back & we were charged full price. We said we appreciate her but can't pay for inedible food & she got managers approval to give us 1/2 off. We paid it just to get out of there & learned our lesson to never go back! My wife and I went to eat here. The wait time to be seated was under 5 minutes. Once we were seated, we waited 20 minutes, and not one person approached nobody even so much as spoke to us. All this while two of the waiters were at the table next to us and waiting on the people like they were VIP's. I didn't want to wait another minute. We left, and no one noticed.
