During hospice for my grandmother we were all too busy and sad to cook Los Molcajetes came through late one night and let us do large take out trays (enough for 20). The food was great. Recently ate her with family again The molcajetes (large stone containers) are the specialty and are amazing as well as visually appetizing. Usually there is someone singing spanish music. Best place in town for a good time. I've been there many times, one time I had a caddie waitress, I didn't tip her well. We recently came here for my wife's birthday with a party of 10 people, and we all had a great time. What we love about Los Molcajetes is the family environment. It's like one big party when you're here. They usually have the mariachi band playing live music which is cool bonus. They also give out free birthday drinks and they are very generous with them. My favorite thing about Los Molcajets is the molcajete bowl. I always order the supreme bowl - which comes with a generous amount of asada, chicken, shrimp, chorizo & some other toppings. I agree with the other poster, their horchata tastes like syrup, I had to add water because it was way too sweet. First off, the salsa was bad, the taste was off. Secondly, my "Enchiladas Suizas" neither looked or tasted like Enchiladas Suizas. Fnally, when I asked for a refill on my water, what the waiter came back with was NOT water. It tasted like she added Sprite into my water or added water to someone else's Sprite and gave it to me. We met some friends here for lunch on our drive up from San Diego to Fresno. I knew that I wanted to get some Mexican food while in Cali. TexMex is great but the Mexican food in CA is more authentic. After being seated I noticed a plate of sizzling chicken fajitas brought to a nearby table. That clenched my decision for me. My wife ordered the albondigas (meatball) soup. I went there on a Sunday so I'm going to accept the fact that it took a long minute to get a seat. Not to mention that this place isn't really all that big.. The service there was unbelieveable. You didn't need to raise your hand and ask for anything at all. They were there and well staffed. The only problem I had was since this place gets packed on sundays and it's a small, we were seated in the bar area where the music and air couldn't be felt or heard. The servers and environment was great... however, the molcajetes were so hot and spicy. No where on the menu did it say they had a mild/hot sauce added in the mix. This place is weird. The décor is mismatched. Chipped paint and exposed wiring. I felt like I was in a warehouse. So, we sit at a table and it's just weird. Our waitress was nice.....when she came by. She took our order and we literally sat for 45 min to an hour waiting for our meals. I had to flag her down for more chips and salsa (Hello....I'm starving!) and a refill. Our food finally comes out of the kitchen. On a cart. An office cart of some sort. One that you would use if you are moving office equipment around. My albondigas soup was very, very greasy. I had to flag her down for the check. She totally did not want to help our table. She was very evasive. Oh, and during our whole dining experience, another employee fussed with the sound system and all we could hear was loud music blaring from the speakers. Just awful. Nice spot to stop on our drive through Bakersfield! Some people in the group didn't like what they ordered - one person thought they were going to get a shish kabob and it turned out to be some soupy thing? My chile verde burrito (with pork) was not bad, the pork had somewhat of an odd flavor and I got one hard piece but overall it was tasty. The food was ok but the customer service was pretty bad. Two of the waitresses were rude and a third didn't know what she was talking about when we asked about the differences between the salsa verde and salsa roja. Smh. Went there for lunch with the family and two grandkids. The service used to be top notch, not anymore. We walked in and they were set up two long tables as though for a party.nice. But our waitress was rushing us to order. That's never a good sign. we eaten there plenty of times so we knew the food. Delicious. As what I assumed was the manager passed he was seating a party of two men. We stopped him and asked if we could get refill and boxes. Because it was obvious our waitress was not going to help us.he takes my husband's glass of water and never returned. No boxes no refill , Hell we didn't even get a check. The other customers were leaving and had to go and ask for their checks all the customers had been ready to leave for about 20 minutes and although all the waitresses we but 5 feet from us and the other customers w were all tot ignored. The manager dressed in shorts and an Hawaiian shirt. Seemed too busy to even help out any of the customers as he was busy talking to the same two men he sat 13 minutes ago. I don't know if they have new owners or what their problem are But it will be very very very long time before I step foot into that business again If at all. If this is the kind of services they are passing to their customers I'll spend my monies else where. Bad bad service especially for regular customer. Driving through Bakersfield and had to eat. Should have gone to Taco Bell. The salsa was straight out of a can and the chips out of a bag. the Enchiladas Suizas had this weird sugary taste to it.. No amount of the canned salsa could save it. The in-house mariachi was way off key. As a former mariachi myself, this just wouldn't do. The girlfriend and I were in the mood for mexican. We decided to eat at los molcajetes. We were not impressed. First off, we had to remind the waitress a number of times that we were still waiting on our appetizer. 1 hour passed and they only brought out half of the portion of my girlfriends entree. Another 20 minutes pass and we decided to complain to the manager about the poor service. We finally are served our meal after an hour and half. The food was nothing spectacular. I hadn't been here for awhile, but have always reccomended Molcajetes to my family and friends. We decided to stop by the other day, and we should have known the service had changed when we asked the waiter about Happy Hour and he replied "I don't know"... Hm. So then a different waiter comes by and finally takes our order, seamed to be in a rush to go sit back down and watch TV. After our food came we never saw our waiter again, I had to get up twice to go ask for utensils (none at our table), and to ask for refills. Its a shame how careless the employees seamed. My husband and I came through Bakersfield on our way home from LA. We always love stopping to try local restaurants on our travels. Now, we have only been here once, and I've seen some "ehh" reviews so I can only base the review off of our one time. With that said, the food was AMAZING. I've got to be honest, when we first walked through the door it was kind of a shit show, a crowd of people and you had to write down your own name and number in your party. No organization, no one told us how long it would be. However, it was only a 10 minute wait, surprising since there were so many people. Once we sat down, the disorganized front was a distant memory, the gentlemen that waited on us was very sweet and attentive. I have no problem admitting I'm a little difficult because of my pickiness, but our waiter was so patient with me. I wish I could remember his name, slender guy, very clean cut, so nice. Our glasses were never empty and neither was the chips and salsa. The salsa is some of the best I've ever had and the chips were hot! Yummm. My husband got the Molcajete and I the Fajitas, now we have been privileged to have some of the best Mexican food you could eat (it's our favorite ), but this food was definitely top 3. The simplicity of the food really let all of the different flavors come through. I really cannot say enough about the food and the service. My only critique is their disorganized front. Now since we were only there once, I cannot say they are always like this, but the front of the house is the first impression. No one told us how long it would be, no one was up there taking names.
