My grandson and I decided to try a new mexican restaurant for Valentine's dinner. We were not disappointed. Very delicious, authentic mexican food. I highly recommend! Our server Natalie was the best. Checked on us regularly and answered all our questions. I ordered a combination meal and was happy to see that they had a combination with steak fajitas and an enchilada. I also got a chile relleno. My grandson ordered the Tabares hamburger that had cheese, bacon and avocado on it and he said it was wonderful so were the fries. You get chips and salsa with your meal and a really delicious bean dip. The chips are very good and the salsa homemade. They have a very large menu with lots of choices and happy hours 7 days a week. The booths were comfortable and the restaurant had cool murals on the walls, televisions and a full bar. The bloody mary was very good and in a nice tall glass. The prices were reasonable. read more

This restaurant is where Reubens use to be. We had gone to Reubens once and never returned. My husband had been wanting to try this place, I wasn't too keen to try it. We were seated quickly, it wasn't busy. Dinner was ok. The vibes, the atmosphere was indifferent, the food was indifferent, even our waitress was indifferent. My husband said his steak, fajita burrito was good, but the rest of us, eh. I love guacamole and with the price of guacamole I don't want my guac to taste or look old or off and mine did. Excellent Sunday Brunch for $21.99 which finding the price is like pulling teeth but as of 12/14/2025 that the price. All the food was really good! I really liked the enchiladas, chilli relleno and the aguas chilies!! One huge complaint was the breakfast sausage was raw in the middle- thank god I noticed and warned my family and they checked and were all raw inside too like still pink and purple!! The lunch buffet is $13.95, it started out good and filled with hot fresh items in the beginning. The dessert section was solid, it had flan, fruit and different sweets. Not anymore, recently it's been old tasting Aldis chocolate chip cookies? The potato tacos and chimichangas were great once upon a time. My visit again they had a soaked texture from the steam and a rock hard bottom from the heat underneath. Our plates never got picked up. A few items were empty and cold, after visiting almost every week since they started the lunch buffet, I call it quits! Last time we were here it was Rubens, so I guess it's been a while. It looks like its a family ran business. They removed the wall between the restaurant & bar area so it's more open but they didn't update any of the booths. The seats are cracked & peeling, which is reason for 4 not 5. The food & service was AMAZING & FAST!! The server brought both salsa, real chunky salsa not taco sauce, & bean dip. My husband loved the salsa, extra spicy & flavorful. I loved that they provide the bean dip. I hate not being able to enjoy the chips since i don't do spicy. It was a nice, unexpected treat. I ordered the appetizer platter. It had flautas, taquitos, quesadilla, nachos & buffalo wings. I was so full on just the nachos but I tasted everything it had great flavor. I don't like things too spicy & it was not at all. I didn't get jalapeños. My husband ordered the chileverde, he loved it. The plate was huge & so was the portion. It was more savory than spicy, I tried it & it wasn't spicy so I thought it was great. Our 10 yr old liked it too. Only negative is the rice was pretty bland, needed more flavor. Also the highlight of the meal was waiting for fresh flour tortillas! I've never had a restaurant give us fresh made tortillas like this, they were so hot & so good. Our son got the kids pizza, which came with fries. Funny story, the ketchup tasted homemade, so we asked the waitress. She laughed & said no it's a can. Idk what brand it is but it's delish! It was $58 for 2 adults, 1 child without alcohol & kids eat free on wed. The very best part of the evening was the lil green/white candies at the register. My family and I had a great experience for Sunday brunch at Casa Tabares. We tried the brunch Sunday special for 18.99 which had an array of breakfast items, Mexican entrees, and sweets. I tried many items including the chile verde, mole, birria, ceviche, aguachiles, waffles, rice, beans, freshly made tortillas, and a few desserts. The Sunday brunch included fruit punch and orange juice. The stars of the show for me were the mole Dulce with rice and beans but I will say that every Mexican dish I had tasted absolutely delicious and authentic. My whole family was impressed. The homemade tortillas definitely made the experience authentic however they were made too thick for my liking. We also had waffles and churros and you could tell they were sitting around for some time. The service was pretty good as well and efficient! The buffet food did not have labels so it could be hard to tell what each item is but the staff were pretty helpful. I do definitely want to that the price is steep but they did have a decent selection of items. There's a few misses but overall we really enjoyed our meal and time! read more

This was our 2nd time visiting Casa Tabares. The first time we visited, they had just opened so there was lots of room for improvement. This time around we decided to visit for Mother's Day and try their Sunday Brunch which we'd seen advertised numerous times on Instagram for 16.99. To my shock, I didn't realize until I got home, that we paid 21.95. I'm supper disappointed. I tried calling but their line just rang and rang. We were sat in the overflow seating area in the bar where it was very dark because a bunch of their lights were out. And to top it off, our table had a clear shot of the men's restroom, with the door open and everything. What's more disappointing is that the food was not very good. We were not offered mimosas, although I saw other tables being served them. And I had to ask about the free Mother's Day margarita that was also advertised on instagram. Sadly I had 2 sips and didn't finish it, as it was also not good. I really wanted to enjoy this brunch with my family, but we were all left pretty bummed. read more

Shrimp uncooked had one bite of tostada it was beyond stale server picked up our plates with over 3/4 full and didn't even ask if it was ok and bartender had an attitude and ignored us took longer to get drinks. It was 85 degrees so dam hot in the whole place the floors in bar were flooded a small fan was on but are you kidding me turn on a/c bathrooms are broken and sticky floors. Waste of time and money! They have a Mexican buffet style option on Sundays! It runs from 11-3pm which i think is great! A lot of them end way too soon! The pricing is great! 16.99 and if you're drinking mimosas it's 19.99! However it's only 3 mimosas, take note of that! They had lots of great options, FRESH tortillas, menudo and pozole! Omelets and waffles! The only thing I would recommend is for for the food to be hotter, some of it was just warm, and or looked cold! 2 stars We gave Casa Tabares a second chance for Sunday brunch after a disappointing first visit shortly after they opened, unfortunately, it was another letdown. The best thing we had was the menudo, but even that had barely any meat. The hand-made tortillas are a nice touch, but the poor lady making them can't keep up with the demand, so the food sits and gets cold while you wait. The lighting was awful--when I asked someone to turn on the lights, I was told they didn't work. Service was decent; the staff seemed like they were trying. But the owner? Dry and unwelcoming, zero personality. We were seated near the restrooms, which were wide open and gave us an unwanted view inside. To top it off, the music in the kitchen made it sound like the cooks were throwing a party. Sadly, we're done with this place. Wish them well, but unless they make some serious changes soon, I don't see them lasting much longer. -$5 additional charge for paying with my credit card. -Lady stepped on a cockroach in the buffet line near the tortilla lady. -Lights in the left side of the restroom are completely out. -Some plates ares stained. read more

Came in for a late lunch with my family. This place was previously own by a different owner so I was a hit skeptical to try it. Not disappointed. Waking in the restaurant has been renovated with beautiful new seating and decor. We were seated quickly. We were given Complimentary chips that were perfectly thin and crispy along with delicious flavored red Chile de árbol salsa and beans with jalapeño flavor. We ordered the molcajete, ranchers plate and the carne asada plate. Over all all three dishes get 4/5 stars. The molcajete had a good amount of meats and the side of rice/beans. The only thing I would suggest is that they put a lot more sauce in the molcajete. But flavor wise the sauce was great. The ranchera plate was so delicious and tender. Cooked very well with a good amount of onion and sauce on top. The carne asada plate was not too thick and cooked thoroughly. I say give this place a chance for sure. read more

I'm pretty sure it's the same owners who own Ruben's, they just changed the name. The reason I say that is because it still looks the same on the inside, they still have some of the same waiters. The one who works there with the bleach blonde hair now, is the one who use to be rude to everyone. They still serve their really good bean dip Ali g with their salsa. (Taste the same). My husband had the New Yorker and I had the ranchero, mine tasted better because of the sauce. His had no flavor. I will say this it was some of the best service (don't remember her name), we ever had there. They added a lot of new items to the menu. The food was decent, just need more seasoning. Oh! They're under new ownership, and the new owners rock! Best California burrito I've ever had! That's no exaggeration, and I've had lots of them. It was huge and I could have easily eaten the whole thing. I only had half, I'm really stuffed right now. It took a lot of discipline to pack the rest up for later. I just wanted to keep eating - it was so incredibly tasty. My future self will be thanking me later. This was my second time here, after having an amazing breakfast a few weeks ago. I was excited to try their dinner, and it exceeded all of my expectations. The puzzling thing about this place is there's hardly anyone here. They should legitimately be packed, with lots of people waiting for a table. This is way better than so many other places that have a long wait. I cannot recommend Casa Tabares enough. The only sad thing is I l'm only visiting Bakersfield, and can only eat here occasionally. Seriously, give this place a try. I guarantee, it will be one of your favorites! read more

Man.. I got lured in by a catchy facebook post showing the Sunday Brunch for $17.95 which is a good price.. Should have known and frankly should have just turned around as soon I we walked in and saw the makeshift buffet set up. Between my wife, daughter, and myself I think we managed to try just about everything but the menudo and chicken nuggets and fries which looked absolutely horrid. The chili relleno was spicy, but cold. The rice/beans were warm but no flavor. The bacon was thick and so stuck together it was impossible to get a decent piece. I actually liked the sausage links. The chili verde and colorado was ok, but definitely not enough to bring me back. Even the fresh made waffle was not good. Service, and I mean refilling our water cups and removing the plates from our table was good. Paid the bill and noticed a "credit card" service fee of $2.20... We would have no reason to come back based upon the food alone, however we would not come back just for the credit card service fee. I understand why a business would want to charge us for their "expenses", however sometimes stuff like this is just enough to rub someone the wrong way and lose a customer forever... read more

I'll start by saying the staff is very friendly and attentive. We had a very sweet waitress named Ashley and she was on point, kept coming to check on us and fill up our drinks. She was great! The food and atmosphere on the other hand was a disappointment. Nothing was terrible, however we probably won't choose to go back. Although the prices were very reasonable the food was not. We wanted to try this place because we've never been here before and I saw that they had queso con chile and I was craving it. The queso was a huge disappointment. First of all the portion was way too big, for what it was. It was a big portion of melted cheese with green chiles swimming in oil or butter. I couldn't believe it. We tried it and my husband put a little bit in his tacos but I'm sure they can tell we didn't like it because it didn't look like we made a dent in it. The chips, salsa and bean dip they serve at the beginning was very good. My husband's tacos were ok, the tortillas were not soft so they were chewy. My enchiladas we just ok, again the tortillas were over cooked. I have never had to use a knife to cut my enchiladas before, normally they are soft enough to cut with a fork. It just wasn't for us. The rice was very tasty, however the beans were not. We also ordered ceviche de camarones, it comes with mini tostadas and we enjoyed that. Lastly the atmosphere, I thought the murals were beautiful, however not sure what kind of vibe they are going for. The musicDamn was loud for a Sunday late afternoon and it was a mix from alternative rock to slow R&B. The tables were not cleaned in detail. On the surface they are clean but in the grout of the tile and on the edge of the table where the tile doesn't quite meet the edge of the table is disgusting. I have been wanting to try this place out after seeing it posted in the local restaurant group. We came in during the Sunday Brunch Buffet and it was packed. The way they had the buffet tables setup was not too efficient and very crowded. The service was decent and there was good energy. I opted for a breakfast burrito and the server told me it was going to be about 20-30 minutes if I ordered from the menu (most likely because their brunch buffet was priority). I got the burrito about 20 minutes later and the potatoes were not cooked all the way. I was disappointed but I'm willing to come try it again when it's not so busy. read more

First i would like to say is this was my first time coming to this restaurant and it looked nice inside really empty and i was kind of suprised considering they had a 15 dollar buffet, anyways it was me and my girlfriends first time here and we sat down she asked if they had chilequilles and she said yes and when the lady asked her something she asked my girlfriend in spanish and she didnt understand so my girlfriend thought she said which kind and so my girlfriend said "green" maybe 2 or 3 times and the lady said "how did you want your eggs" so my girlfriend told her she than left to put the order in not bringing out her water til she bought her food maybe took 20 minutes when they got to the table mg girlfriend said she didnt want the red ones and she told her green but the lady said "we dont have green ones and this is how we make them" and my girlfriend said okay than nevermind i didnt want them because she had told the lady green chilequilles in the beginning and the lady said "ohhh haha yeah" and left them there and so me and my girlfriend ate some food off of my plate and the plate of the unwanted chilequilles stayed there and when the waitress came back my girlfriend said "you can take these and she said are you sure?" and my girlfriend said "yeah i didnt want those" and than she bought out our ticket she charged us for a pina (which was really watery and tasted like it was from a fountain) the lunch buffet and the chilequilles, i went to use the restroom and my girlfriend told me the waitress took the my card from the table and paid when i came back it was a completly different receipt for 2 lunch buffets one chilequille plate and the pina and at that point i was upset because the plate sat there untouched the whole time and she even charged me for a lunch buffet because my girlfriend took a bite from mine, and when i told the waitress i want the refund for the plate she said "well and tried to say thats not her fault and that my girlfriend didnt tell her that" so she said well ill give you the refund and than bought her friend over for i dont know what reason they talked in spanish and she was saying that we never told her that and when i told him what we told her she laughed and said "no no no" it looked nice at first and thought maybe it could be a new place to eat for a 15 dollar buffet but i was wrong ill never go there again, the best thing there was the chile verde and it hardly had any chicken in it the rice was burnt to the bottom of the warmer the beans taste burnt the chimichangas just had cheese and the desert table consisted of weird tasting jello and some nasty flan the store bought cookies were the best part ( 0 STARS) BTW LADY ACT YOUR AGE YOURE TOO OLD TO BE ARGUING LIKE THAT THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT AND IF YOURE WORKING IN A SERVICE FOR A RESTAURANT YOU SHOULD KNOW HOW TO ACT AND TREAT A GUEST AND FIRST TIME CUSTOMER! read more

Ok so we stopped in for an early breakfast Sunday morning after hearing about this place from a group on FB. Very reasonable for the price, kid menu was very cheap and plenty food for my kids. There were plenty options and of course everything was fresh since they were just opening when we got there everything I tried was well seasoned and full of flavor. Lots of room when seated not cramped at all. The music was good too and not too loud. Didn't actually see the beverage options and stuff till it was too late (I don't think there were many) we just got soft drinks service was pretty good very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, this taste like you ordered a Mexican combo plate at Denny's or IHOP... Rice is crunchy taco is small enchilada is small meat is flavor less... Also tried the enchilada Suiza very little chicken, small enchiladas and they forgot the sauce, the rice was underdone and crunchy and has no vegetables in it whatsoever. The beans were cold. I try to never post anything negative anywhere I go, but the owner is the chef somebody needs to taste his food that doesn't smoke cigarettes because it has no seasoning.
