The most-recent expansion of this Texas Restaurant group landed in Mansfield along highway 287 in the old Johnny Carrino's spot, in front of Tom Thumb. I've eaten at their N. Beach St location probably 7 or 8 times and always walked away satisfied and full. The menu is pretty much the A-Z of Tex Mex but the plates are freshly prepared, dressed well and comprised of good quality ingredients. They have a nice list of "House Specialties" that offset the normal "meat/cheese/toppings on a tortilla" offerings. Grilled Quail anyone? My visit had the combo fajitas (see my pic) and my wife the chicken enchiladas. To start though and the main reason we'll be back is the chips-n-salsa and the Margaritas. The salsa is very heavy on the tomato and cilantro (major award-points) and the Marg is a perfect so that it's not sour and not too sweet. It's got a good dose of Tequila in it as well. Not quite Baja Grill level (local Marg fans will know what I'm talkin about) but much much nicer than most places. It was okaaaaay. Not the best, not the worst. Salsa sucked, tasted like tomato juice-even my 2 year old was able to eat it. My husband got the fajita enchiladas and the fajita tasted like it was from a package from Walmart. If you want better Mexican food that is in the same price range, go to Mama Cucas. Now THAT place is worth the money, this one, not so much. I will say they service for us was nice-our waitress was busy with a large party and other servers did not hesitate to help out. Took my wife and daughter here for the first time last night, and definitely was an awesome experience. The waitress was so great to my daughter. Where to start, uncomfortable chairs in the patio friendly staff but all very inexperienced. Cold chips and 2 kinds of salsa both flavorless and no spike. Typical Texmex over priced no flavor food. By far the worst fajitas I have had. Chicken tasted like it was sitting out for hours and was hard. The Jalapeño poppers were the worst I have had and the cheese inside was even melted. The beans that I ordered was just soup and no beans. Enchiladas didn't have shredded chicken but whole chicken pieces. It was like the order was just thrown together. The bartender refused to go out and look for them. She said, "No I'm not going to walk all the way out to look for your keys.." I have never had someone refuse to help me out and be so rude... Walked back in and the hostesses started giggling and speaking in Spanish. Just really got under my skin especially after being frustrated searching for my wife's keys. Great establishment with an excellent staff. I found this place after being turned away from Maíz Cocina and Tequila bar, along with some other customers who were also turned away from there. However, it all turned out great because Los Molcajetes had a great atmosphere and even though the placed was packed they found room for a few more. I would definitely say businesses, especially those specializing in Mexican American food, should follow there example of traditional Mexican family values of having a welcoming attitude and serving up great food in a family centered environment. I really liked the food. As a vegetarian, I asked the waiter what was available and he let me know the many options which would suit my lifestyle. I really appreciate the time he took to explain the options I had and his swiftness when waiting on us. Overall, the food had great flavor and the price was decent. We stopped at Los Molcajetes for dinner after finishing our day playing in a flag football tournament in the Ft. Worth area. We had a considerable wait. I believe they told us 25 minutes, it just seemed alot longer. Once we were seated, we were able to all sit together. We had 8 kids and 5 adults, so that was great that they were able to keep us together. Our waitress, Ashley, did a great job keeping up with the requests from the kiddos and was running like crazy but did a FANTASTIC job with and for our group!! I ordered the Fish Taco Plate which came with 3 grilled fish tilapia tacos with a chipotle coleslaw mix. The plate was also served with lettuce, guacamole, pico de gallo, rice & beans. The meal was in my opinion, just okay. The tortillas, which were red (perhaps from some type of sauce) in color, appeared to have been "pan fried" and were very greasy. I had the gringo- cheese enchiladas and a taco. Lots of food! Someone said the rice and beans were not good but I disagree. I thought they were delicious! My taco was overstuffed with meat! Ordered meal via phone, had a friend pick up food for me (big part here) i was charged for a COMPLETELY different order of absolutely nothing i ordered. when i got my food the entire order was also wrong. even wrong from what i was charged for. Due to the time i could not call the store that night so i called the following day, i was told they could only refund me 10$ for the difference in price from what i wanted and what i paid for (even though it was all wrong anyways) and i should have "made time to call that day" and that i "also should not be having other people pick up my orders" and that the manager recommends that next time i order i should order through door dash so if there is a problem they can handle it. overall not happy with the experience! read more

Wonderful 1st time experience here. We came on a Saturday night, not too busy, we were greeted and sat immediately. The servers name was Trish and she was so sweet! The chips and salsa were perfect, they have a warm one and one that is room temperature, I personally hate cold salsa so I don't usually eat it when I go to Mexican restaurants but both salsas were amazing! Also ordered a cup of queso, perfect for a party of two. The plates were definitely not what I'm used to. They were HUGE portions. I could only eat one taco because they are stuffed! My husband ordered the Tijuana platter, which had flautas, enchiladas, quesadillas, and rice and beans. He didn't leave anything on the plate; I tried the flautas, I'm very picky when it comes to flautas, but these were perfect. Definitely worth every penny. The pina colada margarita was okay, too much ice so it was hard to enjoy, but overall very great experience! We will be back, can't wait to try more things on the menu. read more

Ate here for lunch on a Saturday. I ordered the quail "A la Mexicana." Quail was covered in unique delicious mild sauce served with refried beans and rice. Ate here on Easter with my grandparents and mom. Our waitress did not get our drinks right, she would bring salsa but not have chips. We got there around 11:15 and were able to catch breakfast before it ended at 12pm. Everyone at the table ordered their food at the same time.. Once the food was brought to our table everyone got a plate except my mom and little brother. So we waited for the waitress to come back. By the time our waitress finally came to check on us my mom was able to tell her that she never received her plate and my brother did not get all of his order. So she went to the kitchen and was gone for a while then came back and told my mom they couldn't make her plate bc breakfast was over. So my mom did not get a plate of food. Then when we got our receipt they still charge for the missing items and my moms breakfast plate!! The prices are pretty high here.. the plates are pretty big though.. it's definitely a second choice if roadhouse next doors wait is to long.. they always have tables open.. honestly go to Chas Chas up the street and you with pay half the price and have great service with great prices! read more

The hot sauce served with the chips was a little bland, but it tasted very fresh. The actual food did not impress. The rice and beans were not good. We just got back from trying this place for the first time. We should have listened to the reviews. We were seated quickly, and chips and salsa were prompt. The chips are good, but the salsa tasted like they mixed some tomato paste with ketchup, threw in some cilantro and onions and called it a day. They bring out a "spicy" salsa in cup as well and we dumped it into the big bowl. That made it edible. We ordered the stuffed jalapenos (stuffed with cheese) for an appetizer. They looked like they had come out of a pre-prepped bag. They were all the same size with the exact same amount of breading. The salsa ranch that was served with these made them taste a little less bland. We all got something different, cheese enchiladas, spinach enchiladas (they were not on the menu, but they made them since they had spinach quesadillas), steak ranchero, and carne adova. All came with rice and beans and the two steak dishes came with tortillas. I asked if they made the tortillas there, and the server said they did. We ordered both corn and flour. I was disappointed when I opened the tortilla containers and saw they were all pretty uniform. When I am lazy at home, I will sometimes buy the refrigerated tortillas that you just put in a pan to cook, and this is exactly what they looked and tasted like. When the order arrived, I had high hopes because it did look good, however, I was so very wrong. The rice and beans (both refried and charro--- the charro was a little better than the refried) were very bland, the steak dishes each were supposed to have a different sauce, but they each tasted exactly the same. The spinach enchiladas were okay, but nothing noteworthy, and the cheese enchiladas were topped with what only can be described as a chili flavored gravy and they were cool in the middle. Our server was okay at first, but after the delivery of the food, he came by once more to deliver the check and after he took care of the check, he was not seen from again. (We were sitting there visiting for almost 40 minutes-- they were not busy because this was at 4:00pm) I really wanted this place to be good, but sadly it was a disappointment. I took leftovers home, thinking I might try to salvage and spice up what was left, but on the way home, I began to get a funny taste in my mouth, and suddenly my stomach was turning backflips.
