Wow - I was so impressed with the Los Osos Valley Nursery! I was greeted by a very nice, friendly woman as soon as I walked in. They have a plethora of items from plants, flowers, fruit trees, fountains, outdoor decor and so much more! The nursery just keeps on going and has so many little hidden rooms and corners of the nursery, just waiting to be discovered! The prices are actually reasonable which was a pleasant surprise! Look, they have some unique and pretty plants here, and the place is certainly... sprawling, but a lot of these plants are in dire need of TLC. Not a good feeling to see tons of neglected plants in a super messy environment. We walked around for a while and admired a few really cool flowers -- see photos -- but I wouldn't buy anything from here. And not one staff person said hello or asked us what we were looking for. This is a terrific nursery. It has some unusual plants, all plants are well cared for, has great display areas and is a pleasure to walk around. Beautiful collection of pottery. I have been a customer of Los Osos Valley Nursery for nearly 20 years. It has remained reliable in every respect: pricing, inventory, plant stock, garden resources. If anything it has grown much. I was there today and the inventory was incredible, as if it were spring! My garden is mature and I did not need much but I was very tempted by manzanitas and other natives and many from Down Under Australian and New Zealand plants that do well in our sandy soil and climate. I know nothing about plants. Really, I don't. I just got a new camera though and thought that it might be a good idea to test it out taking photos of some pretty flowers. Where does one find pretty flowers? Well, the local Nursery is a good candidate. Pursuant to that I went down the block to the Los Osos Valley Nursery. I'm sure that I looked lost standing there with camera in hand and that gave Hope the opening to inquire if I needed any help. I'd like to photograph some flowers. Have any? Instead of "Well duh, this is a Nursery", she took the opening to give me a tour. They have a few flowers indeed. This was particularly nice as I wasn't likely to actually buy anything. I was just this random guy with a camera who walked in. I found lots of great herbage there. If you have a garden or would like to start one, so will you. I heartily recommend that you stop by and check it out. Unlike me, maybe you could even buy something. I think they'd like that. read more

This place has an absolutely stunning variety of plants. The garden is so beautiful, they could charge admission as an arboretum. I saw things here that i never have before as well as some old favorites. I picked out a small mix of drout resistant, lawn replacement, or showy floral, so I've got fun projects ahead. On a two day getaway we decided to visit this nursery, Los Osos Valley Nursery, after my mother in law recommended stopping in. I like to see, and imagine, how our plants back home could look one day. I have a hard time keeping plants looking healthy and my husband is always telling me he has one word for me, "silk"! After years of going to three local nurseries I was about to give up until we visited Los Osos Valley Nursery. Staff was excellent. One in particular, Grisell, checked in with me to see if I needed help. I told her I had such a hard time keeping my plants healthy let alone alive. She was a God send! At all the other nurseries back home not one individual picked up on my cries of unsolved mysteries and none gave me the information I received here. Grisell was extremely helpful and seemed eager to help me, not as if I was interrupting her. I was and am very grateful. She stopped watering their plants and began asking me questions about my plants, soil, watering habits and what not. She immediately directed me towards a chart they have attached to a shelf and explained it to me as a reference as to how I need to go forward. She suggested I take a picture of it to refer to when I returned back home. I was so thankful for her assistance, truly wanting to help me, I decided to buy a product she suggested would aid me in watering (I seemed to be overwatering and not knowing my soil and plant needs); a simple little inexpensive stick, a watering meter, and a certain soil that would help with the nitrogen my soil may possibly be lacking. Rather than traveling the 200 miles back home to wait to purchase products I purchased it there because she was truly interested in my customer service, but more so in getting me on track and seeing it to be a joy to garden rather than see it as a burden! Bottom line, I began the regimen she suggested and it seemed like overnight my plants reacted, positively. It's been over a month now and my plants are growing in size, color, and mostly flourishing with beautiful flowers and lush greenery even one that failed to flower last year. They look so much more healthier. Thank you Grisell and Los Osos Nursery!! I have decided to patron this nursery when visiting the coast even waiting to purchase my pots when needed. Los Osos Valley Nursery is a dream for any house plant connoisseurs who chose to decorate their apartments with an abundance of flowing greenery placed in eccentric pots. The aesthetic of Los Osos Valley Nursery reflects that of your fun, bohemian aunt that has a flair for gardening. The vibes are immaculate with an old piano flanking the hall, air plants intertwined with driftwood hanging from the ceiling, and small wooden sheds with hidden lucky turtle statues. This atmosphere will have you considering redecorating your own sunroom to mimic the carefree, peace that radiates from this nursery. When it comes to plants, they had every varietal you could ever want. Some I have never even seen before! I went in here to browse and was so awe-struck by their vast collection that I took three new house plants home with me. I was also very motivated by the widest selection of colorful pots on the Central Coast. Every color, shade, shape, and size, had me practically tripping over myself to see them all. Everyone needs a pop of color to add to a room, and I can confidently say they have every color imaginable. The beautiful colors had me completely rethinking the color scheme in my house. I love finding treasures of cool cacti/succulents in this nursery. Unfortunately, when I visited recently, I saw some cacti/succulents looked neglected. They were not in their best condition, definitely not as good as a couple of years ago. I hope the owner will take a note and find a way to properly care the plants again. read more

Hope was an absolute joy to meet. We recently adopted a Chameleon and came here for live plants and ideas. She directed us to the right ones and told us which would be safe and ready to use same day and which ones we needed to wait for a little while so they are clear of any possible chemical sprays. Then she proceeded to give us clippings to replant and told how to grow them. We are were astonished by how much she made strangers feel like family and never made us feel bad for being beginners with plants. Can't wait to go back for more, thank you Hope. This nursery is so unique. It is not a pristine, pansy filled hardware store nursery. It's got character. Along with some real hidden treasures and gems. I love the wild vibe, the lovely owner and staff, the marmalade cat, all of it. The succulent and cactus selections are phenomenal. Everything I have gotten here has thrived, even the overgrown misfits I can sometimes find. They also have the coolest pots and planter selection, and seem to do Sales pretty regularly. Occasionally I just come here and walk the grounds for ideas, but it's hard not to find something to leave with!:) read more

I was able to pay over the phone as well and they set the stuff aside for me to pick up immediately without having contact with anyone. I was lucky enough to find this Nursery when I was visiting my son at college. This Nursery has it all. A fantastic inventory, fair prices and above all else a wonderful, friendly competent staff. They have a fabulous assortment of pottery including all kinds of talavera pots and figurines. They have a great selection of unique aloe vera plants as well as mangaves and succulents.
