It is a traditional taco spot, with the meats being cooked in front of you, with a topping station off to the side. Some meats may not be available if you arrive early, so keep in mind what you'd like. They have a 2 for 1 special on tortas on Tuesdays. It comes with tomato, avocado, lettuce and a cheese shirt around the meat. My favorite is always the al pastor since it's on a traditional trompo. Parking is street parking, or in the lot nearby. We were driving home and saw the line at this taco stand off Howe Avenue in Sacramento. The Al pastor looked too good to pass up. It was piping hot and generous portions in all items - tacos, burritos, quesadilla and papa rellena. Service is friendly and typical street style set up with a tent and grill on the corner. They provide cilantro, onions, salsas and to go containers. The pricing was reasonable and the meat and cheese was very generous. Would definitely go back. I already know that this taco grill is going to be a problematic temptation. I pass by this stretch of Howe Ave after every nightly gym session, and the setup is impossible to miss between the bright lights, music, and line of customers waiting for their turn. The family-owned, traditional Mexican atmosphere is at an all time high and their tacos have the taste to back it. Even though I have yet to find an al pastor taco that I don't enjoy, these are unique. The meat comes in long strips since the employees slice it off a vertical rotisserie. Combined with the awkward size of the pineapple relative to the tortilla, things get messy when you try to take a bite. I can't complain about the taste though -- the tacos are juicy and the salsa is SPICY (coming from someone with a high spice tolerance)! I do get a little sussed out seeing so many people share the same ladles and tongs at the self-serve condiment section. Not a big deal for a couple of customers, but this place is always booming. Instagram and Facebook reels brought to my attention a local taco stand serving up loaded baked potatoes the size of an adolescent child's head, piled high with some of the finest Mexican meats. So finally one Saturday evening the fiancée and I made the short drive to the Arden area. As we approached we could see bright lights illuminating a stand with a large crowd around it. I immediately seen the al pastor meat spinning around like a record baby. The crowd was pretty chill and the line moved quick. Made friends with another couple in line as we talked about our teenage kids and love for different area eats. Went with two suadero tacos, one asada and one pastor taco. They include grilled pineapple with each taco. My personal favorite was the pastor but all were amazing and reminded me of some of the better taco stands in LA I've been to! My lady got two asada tacos topped with shredded cheese. We split the main star of the show and what brought us here. Choosing asada as the meat that would be filling this Idaho potato. The cheese and char of the steak and tenderness of the potato, almost to a mash, make each bite better than the last. A must try for any foodie in the area. Plenty of drinking options here, definitely try one of their agua frescas. Don't be turned off my sketchiness of the location as some of the best food spots always require some type of obstacle whether parking or a long drive. A friend had mentioned trying this place out all because they had a trompo so we decided to give it a shot. You know it's authentic when they offer buche and cabeza. We got a lengua burrito, a couple buche tacos, a couple al pastor tacos, an al pastor torta, and asada potato. All of the meats were on point and properly seasoned. Most places under salt but the lengua was amazing. The potato thing is HEAVY. it's definitely something to split. If they ask you if you want cheese, I would actually suggest skipping it as it makes it so much heavier and kind of takes away from the food. The salsa is proper also...not maximum tomatillo that just makes it sour. Pickled onions with habanero and jalapeños add a big hit of heat. Avocado salsa is kind of whatever. Maybe it's because everything is so well seasoned that it was underwhelming. Be prepared to get smoked the F out though. It's like being the pit master at a BBQ. I guess it depends on the wind, but wr got blasted and had to shower afterwards. Tacos were $3 a piece. Burrito is $13. Horchata is $7. Horchata is legit, made with actual rice, fully homemade. The line wasn't too long when we arrived, and everything looked like it was being prepared fresh. I took a bite of my tacos and was very impressed by the flavor and texture of the asada! Unfortunately that was the only good bite I had. The rest were cold, hard , rock pieces and it was like that throughout my entire taco. The chicken was the same. The food is always hot and fresh, my favorite is the Al pastor which they do the right way since it's on a spit fire and roasting. They have some amazing agua fresca and some really good toppings and salsa. If you're like me, I always crave tacos late at night and I guarantee you Los Perrones hits the spot. They seem to specialize in pastor so that's what I got; 4 pastor tacos (and one Asada) and one pastor burrito. The pastor tacos were amazing and flavorful. The pastor had a nice smokiness and char from the flame and it was paired with a good amount of sweet yet perfectly tart pineapple. The asada was also good snd flavorful but their pastor just stands out more. The pastor burrito was SO good. My favorite out of everything we got. I will say though that I wish they included pineapple in the burrito. The rice and beans were really flavorful and I really appreciate that the cheese is cooked onto the tortilla (some places don't cook their cheese and that is not my preference). I came here on a Friday night at 7:30PM and it was quite busy, waited in line for about 15 minutes but food came out ready in about 8 minutes and the staff were friendly. Lots of different salsas and toppings to try. I think the drinks are $7-10. I love this place. I have to drive almost an hour to get here but I try to time it out right if I'm in the area as they open at 6pm though they were serving people earlier one time so maybe they're flexible. The seasoning on both the asada and the pork with pineapple is amazing. They have the pork on the spinning thing so it's super juicy. The asada has a flat grill char. It's just so tasty. I tried the baked potatoes for the first time at this location and it was a little bland but they add packets of salt. I got home and added things to my liking and it's one of my favorite meals. I get it with carne asada. It can feed multiple people/ servings. The pina was delicious but I imagine it may get watered down throughout the night. Everything that I've had here so far is excellent I think the fact that they have five people working the stand tells you something and there's always a line... The first time I came here I had the stuffed baked potato , it had butter and then they put a ton of steak on it with all the fixings.... That was large enough for two meals, they serve it with some corn tortillas so you can make some potato tacos... they have a bunch of condiment that you can choose from and load up to take to go. Second visit we got the two tortoise for $15 on Tuesdays .... The tortillas were very tasty and the cheese skirt around it was interesting. They have an assortment of drinks I always get purple Mexican Jamaica drink... so good and plenty on their large serving. Found this place on instagram and I am super glad I was able to finally stop by! I dropped in around 7pm and there was a long line so be aware of potential wait times before you go. I ended up ordering an asada torta with everything on it and some Al pastor tacos. Let me tell you, these were hands down some of the best tacos and torta I've had in NorCal so far. They give you a lot meat and cheese and I was definitely full after eating the torta itself! I loved how the workers make everything in front of you and how polite they are. This was my first time stopping by and it was as good as I've heard. They have the typical tortas, tacos, burritos, militas but they have a unique addition baked potatoes that you can get loaded up taco style and they also do a soft cheese skirt on their tortas. You know a taqueria is legit if you can find the authentic meats Ike cabeza, lengua, tripas and suadero. I got one of each of those tacos with everything and they were all delicious. The cabeza was my favorite. The tripas were nice and crisp but I would have been happy with a bit more meat. The portions on all the rest were generous. The salsa and garnishes were all great especially the habanero salsa and spicy cucumbers. Though they were really busy they serve up everything with a smile. The Al pastor seemed to be a crowd favorite and cut to order. I asked for a sample and it was very tasty. My tacos were so good I ended up getting a torta to go to enjoy the next day. I had the Buche Torta and asked for the meat crisped up and they did it perfect. I could have eaten the whole copper Portland full of buche, it looked amazing! Yuck yuck yuck! One of the most disgusting meals we have ever had and almost all of it went into the trash. Ordered $100 worth of food since we had company over and I had been following on instagram. The food looks NOTHING like their social media presence and is probably one of the worst Mexican food experiences I've ever had. We ordered a torta, carnitas quesadilla, carne asada burrito asked for crema/cheese, and 2 of every taco option they had. We tried to get a picadita which was posted on their instagram and they don't carry it at this location. Nothing came with the toppings we asked for so when we got home there were no onions/cilantro on any of the tacos, no crema/cheese on the carne asada burrito (we paid extra), and no lettuce, tomato avocado on the torta and no onions/cilantro/salsa on the baked potato. We were asked about all toppings and we said yes and their IG also shows that they are all made with these options. That massive crispy cheese for the torta and they roll all the ingredients in it? Yeah, not happening. Tasted no cheese in the torta or the carne asada burrito which is crazy for what they advertise in their videos online. All the meat was dry, the burrito was SO dry and the rice and beans were gross. I really don't get the hype on this place and the good reviews. The service was so chaotic and rushed. They all need to slow the f down and stop throwing things everywhere and getting in each other's way. They seemed so overwhelmed with a line of 8. We've seen this spot on Howe Ave passing Northrope Ave on our way home several times. It's a brightly lit pop up canopy with a red top. It's on the corner you can't miss it! We finally decided to stop and try it on Tuesday. It did not disappoint, this spot is usually busy and definitely has regulars. The people who run this stand are very friendly and accommodating. They offer a range of Mexican street food staples: Tacos, Burritos, Tortas, Mulitas, and much more! They seem to run specials, not sure if these change weekly or daily but they're written in the plates in the center. You start on the left, give the cooks your order and then pay on the right. We got 3 tacos each, carne asada and al pastor and an horchata. The horchata was suuuper good super cinnamony and not chalky. They have a ton of different cuts and meats to choose from. This stand is definitely known for their pastor, with it getting cut fresh from the spit to order. The tortillas are also warmed up on the griddle fresh to order. Tacos are $3 a piece which I was like "UMMM?" but with the cost of meat and food these days and the fact that they honestly LOAD the tacos up with meat, it's not a bad price all in all. All of the food and ingredients were touching in shared containers, and the grill didn't appear to be cleaned between different types of meat. Since I don't eat pork or beef, and cross-contamination is a concern for me, I decided not to order anything. My review is based solely on the environment and food prep practices, not the taste or quality of the food itself. This spot might work for others, but if you have dietary restrictions or prefer cleaner separation during cooking, it may not be the best fit.
