This was my fav to go when visiting Houston. Picked up a to go order and was very disappointed in the quality and flavor of food, def not what it used to be. The chips to go with the queso were stale & the queso was more like a rotel with velveeta cheese. Also ordered a puffed queso, which is unique to Los Tios...again the puffed tortilla was stale! It came with a condiment size of queso small enough to barely cover the top of the puff. The guacamole salad was old and brown. Lastly the cheese enchilada was a chewy tortilla with a watery chili gravy that lacked any flavor except the cheese inside the tortilla. read more

We went there for lunch on a Sunday about a month ago. I was completely disappointed with the food. Now, there were a lot of people there so I guess people do like the place but being Latina and growing up in South Houston where you can get Mexican food on every corner, I might have higher standards than most. The Food: The salsas were pretty good and were the best thing about the whole meal. I had the Enchiladas Verdes and the shredded chicken inside them was tough and hard to cut through. So was the tortilla surrounding the chicken. It was very odd. My hubby had the beef fajitas and he could not even eat them. They had this weird smell to them and tasted like car oil (not that I have ever tasted car oil but I imagine that it would taste like that.) The rice and beans were bland. First time here with friends who are long time regulars. The establishment is clean and the staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. My friends had enchiladas and various combo plates that they order on a regular basis. They insisted I try the corn tortillas and I have to admit they were spectacular. I had the fish tacos. They were incredible! The fish was really well seasoned and tasty and the soft tortilla was filled with avocado, red cabbage, onion and queso fresco. I asked for Pico De Gallo on the side. There are definitely times when living in England have made me seriously pine for some tex-mex. Those Brits don't know what they are missing. Thankfully, Los Tios was just on the strip mall a couple miles from my old house. It is minutes from Bellaire so I don't know why I didn't do more lunch trips here during high school. Good for some quick and relatively cheap Mexican food. The food doesn't exactly taste like it's made from scratch. And don't expect anything authentic, but it will please for basic enchilladas, burritos, quesadillas, and fajitas. And the Margaritas hit the spot as well. We have gone there for many years. Lately, the food quality has gone down. Also, friend found a rubber band in the food and called and was only told sorry - no other explanation. I find that unacceptable for a manager. We have stopped going there until they go back to good service and good food *quality control*. Wait staff has also become rather unfriendly. It's a pretty solid Mexican restaurant. Everything from the chips and queso to the beans and rice was solidly good but not great. It was a little pricy, and you probably want to eat one of the dinners or the fajitas, because the other reviews have indicated that everything is served a la carte. I had the Tex-Mex dinner. The taco was a little brittle, but other than that, I didn't really have anything to complain about. It's worth noting that the fajita beef had a smoky flavor not usually found in Mexican food -- it's a very similar flavor to Becks Prime across the street -- and while I liked it, it's not for everybody. If half-stars were possible on Yelp, I'd give this place a 3.5 -- it's better than what I would call a 3, but it doesn't quite warrant a 4, either. read more

This place is pretty good during lunch on the weekdays. We like to sit at the bar during lunch as the bar area is rather small and can get a little busy. Nevertheless, the food is really good and so are the drinks . The staff is really laid back too. They make you feel very welcome, which is always a plus. I've liked Los Tios in Meyerland and was so happy it reopened after Harvey. I probably go there two to three times each month for dinner. Last Sunday morning I looked forward to breakfast there after learning they were now serving breakfast. The coffee was the best part! My friend and I ordered different egg dishes. I chose huevos rancheros and she had chorizo scrambled eggs. Cheese, not sure if it was grated or powdered, was placed in a small container on our plates. We'd not seen anything like that before. Fried huevos eggs were practically raw with runny whites, so much so I could not finish it. Her scrambled chorizo eggs had that same side container cheese. Both orders were tasteless. Los Tios can do so much better! Maybe the cook failed to show up that morning? We love Mexican food and have sampled huevos ranchero and chorizo scrambled eggs all over town, and these were a major disappointment and did not begin to compare with other local restaurants. read more

It's been a long time since I've eaten at a Los Tios however this one will bring back memories. The salsas are actually both delicious and wish I had gotten a rita. I ordered the Acapulco dinner which I was excited to get a puff queso shell and it didn't disappoint, same cheese I remember. Guacamole was good. It came with a taco which they use a puffed taco shell which is literally impossible to eat like normal but good nonetheless. Also Had a cheese enchilada which was good and tamale which really didn't add nor subtract but was flavorless. Rice and beans were good and my wife mentioned that her charro beans were very good. Then we tried the soap pillars which were delicious and accompanied with honey and dulce de leche. So if you're a kid of the 80s or want to see how Mexican food was back then, come stop by and get yourself a blast from the past, it will definitely fill you up, for true! read more

We love Los Tios! We have lived in the area for almost 3 years and come here just about every week. Their margaritas are the best and they have an awesome happy hour during the week. All their food is great and we haven't had a single bad experience. During COVID, we ordered several times for pick up and everything was just as good and went smoothly. read more

So let me start off by saying I have been going to Los Tios for a few years now, normally the Westhiemer location. Me & my SO got to the restaurant slightly before 9PM (they close at 10PM), they were already cleaning up to close. The service was mediocre as was the food. You could definitely tell that the waitress was counting down the minutes before we left- but, I still insisted me take our time. Overall, I'd give them another try at this location but, I'd probably go before 8PM during the week. read more

Although this restaurant is a favorite of many, we were very disappointed with our recent take-out order. We arrived before the "ready by" time only to find our food already getting cold. By the time we got it home we discovered that the order was wrong, and they omitted our margaritas. Even had the food been hot by the time we ate it, the quality was lacking...I'd but the nachos on par with what you might get at a ballpark. Avoid if you want a tortilla soup made with only chicken, even the Spanish sauce sauce probably has a beef base. I used to eat at this chain 30 plus years ago and it was a lot better. On the plus side the manager was very receptive, courteous and offered free replacement. The tres leches cake was very good. read more

Normally this review would cost $500, but for Yelp it's pro bono. Since this is "I am just not myself" month", the restaurant inspired me to review as if I were a lawyer (an ambiance chaser??). Opening statement: (i.e. nothing useful) This review ("Review") update between the party of the first part ("Me") and the party of the second part (You) means any entity identified in the restaurant submitted by the same or affiliated persons, and/or any agency or network acting on its (or their) behalf are not bound by the terms of this Review or any other words herein. My brief (useful): 1. Decades-established neighborhood facility has a great Tex-Mex aroma, and as the witnesses approach the bench of the booth, chips and salsa are immediately provided. The red salsa is a hot and tasty non-binding (i.e. slight liquidity) standard, whereas the green salsa is mild and not that tasty to warrant chip dipping. I guess the green salsa has too much sour cream for me (gross negligence), so I sequestered it. 2. Waiter handed Reviewer a certified copy of the menu, which hencewith includes but is not limited to traditional Tex-Mex items. However, there are no Mexican sandwiches, so I proposed "torta reform" to the waiter. 3. Docket: I subpoenaed the Acapulco Dinner, which consisted of two plates: (a) taco, guacamole, and puff queso, and (b) beef enchilada, cheese enchilada, tamale, and rice & beans. My wife ordered a daily special with beef & chicken fajita with a topping that included poblano strips. 4. No breach of promise was alleged for Third Party (my son) pleading nolo contendre to receivership of partial goods (i.e. there is no charge for a split plate). 5. After taking custody of the food from the waiter, I quickly scarfed-up the queso puff in (allegedly) a crime of passion. Years ago they put a full jalapeno slice on top, but now it's sliver as small as circumstantial evidence. 6. Halfway through the meal, my mouth overruled the cease and desist order from my full stomach. But eventually, I did some estate planning (i.e. got a to-go box for a continuance) 7. My counsel (wife) filed a claim for another napkin and a tea refill, and a class action for chips for all. These were provided as fast as a restraining order. 8. Entrée of Fajitas: Beef v Chicken. After cross-examination, my wife confessed preference for the chicken. In a previous deposition, she preferred the beef, and claimed both were as good as any other Tex-Mex. I objected on basis of hearsay. Expert witness (son) plea bargained for a sample of each, and offered a dissenting opinion that Exhibit A (beef) was better, but Lupe's has better chicken and Fajita Pete's has better beef. My verdict was to acquit, because when wrapped in tortilla with grilled onions, their decent guacamole and pico de gallo, the taste is very satisfying. 9. After the meal, the check was delivered fairly quickly (after summoning the waiter), along with a few pralines. The pralines are skimpy on pecans, unlike the good old days prior to Skeeter's hostile takeover. 10. The meal was complete in less than an hour, and not near an "affidavit" ("half-a-day-of-it"). Summation: Your Honor, Caveat emptor. I entered a more then half empty dining room, we instantly sat down. It was 11:35am in the suburban West Houston locaton. The waitress left the salsa, Verde salsa with chips and took our drink order. Sorry, no photos! I ordered 2 beef crispy tacos, and rice no beans. My sister ordered the grilled talapia with rice and small salad w/guacamole. My tacos were a lunch special, $4.95 each, so the special at $9 was a fair price. The taco was so fat, bulging over with meat and toppings. I could only finish one. I like the food but the decor needs remodeling. But the place opened in 1970, with 4 locations - each location looks the same, to some of the older customers or long time customers it must be fine. My family and I have been coming here for six plus years. My wife's family has been coming to this location for 20 years. We stalked the place in the days it took to reopen after the hurricane. We used to get treated well and actually had managers touch our table. This was our favorite location because it was close to my wife's grandmother, but they don't care about how often you come to the restaurant. I worked in restaurants for years as a GM. I know the restaurant business and I definitely know what customer service is. Restaurant 101 is simply recognizing your repeat customers and acknowledging them. We don't expect the red carpet treatment, but the management here doesn't care how often we frequent. From not having fruit for my toddler (only on weekends for Brunch apparently) to not allowing us to sit in a booth with a high chair on a VERY SLOW lunch midweek. Yet the other location on Westheimer had no issue letting us do that and brought us a gigantic bowl of fruit. Don t get me wrong the staff is AMAZING at this location. Johnny has been there since the beginning and Sanchez is so friendly and attentive. The food is good too. But we're finding ourselves going to other locations more and more these days. If it's your first time here, definitely go but don't get attached or expect to be spoken to by a manager. read more

Their "famous" puffy queso (apparently famous for its ability to take up a third of the plate despite consisting mainly of air), guacamole salad (a small scoop of fresh but bland guacamole, no salad) and a chalupa (pretty much a taco bell bean and cheese tostada). So-so Tex-Mex. It is close to home and it is cheap, so it has that going for it. It is always crowded, so people must like it more than I do. The queso seems to be of the Velveeta variety, I expect more. The fajitas are good and the tortillas are fresh, so that is quite nice. My husband always enjoys the combo plates, which are a very good value. I am a native Houstonian and have eaten at Lost Tios all my life. My go to meal is the Number 6. The cheese enchiladas are very good and very Tex Mex. The food for the most part has remained consistent over the years. There is a variety of margaritas and the ones I have had are darn tasty. This is not a fancy place nor is the food unusual. However, if you want good ole fashion Tex Mex this is the place to go. read more

I'm a long time patron of this location, but as of late, the accuracy of order delivery has gone way downhill. I typically order order delivery. Of the past 4 orders, all have been incorrect.... as in, right name and ticket on the order/bag, with at least 1 wrong item (e.g., shrimp enchiladas instead of spinach - this happened twice in a row) and/or an item completely missing from the bag. I usually call the restaurant and speak with Ivan the manager. He has been okay to deal with, but each time it happened, I had to drive to the restaurant to pick up the correct items. Defeats the purpose of delivery order. The last time it happened, 1 1/2 weeks ago, an item was missing. Frustrated, I emailed him instead of calling.....because I'm just sick of having to go back to the restaurant. I've reached out not less than 4 times with no response. Had dinner here last night. The servers who have been there 20 + years nice to see. I have been eating there for about 30 years. So as I write this it's from my heart. The quality has slowly gone down hill over the last 8 years. So we stop going and then try it again. The home made tortilla are now a undercooked mush of corn something. That was a new twist. All the sauces tasted the same. The puffed queso that I have been eating for 30 years. Went flat, rt after it was brought to me. Okay that was a first. The once amazing queso tasted like it was outta of a can. Surprised this is what they have chosen. The meat in the taco al carbon. Wad very good. But one outta like 10 items. Not a good thing. Great food! Feels like home. The service is always good. Example, I was sitting at a table that was directly below an AC vent. I look up to notice where the air was coming from. 5 minutes later my waitress comes back and informs me that she had turned the AC up because she noticed I was cold. Outstanding!
