Just came here. I wanted a cold beer on a hot day and they fully delivered. They have 32 ounce mugs, along with smaller mugs, and bottles, of beer. I was delighted to find they have Pacifico on tap. I ordered two soft chicken tacos, which were really good, but far from "authentic." They were great with the beer. The chicken is shredded and well seasoned. I skipped cheese. They topped with lettuce and I loved every bite. I completely enjoyed my experience and will return to experience an entree. I will definitely return for the beer. Prices are good. Huge parking lot. Decent Service, But the Food and Ambiance Need Work My daughter and I stopped in for dinner at Los Toltecos on Ox Road recently, hoping for a solid Mexican meal. Unfortunately, it fell a bit short in a few key areas. We started with guacamole and a cheese quesadilla for my daughter. The guacamole was passable, but the salsa that came out with the chips was pretty flat and lacked any real depth of flavor or kick, which isn't a great first impression. The quesadilla was a disappointment too. It came out soggy and tasted pretty bland, not something you'd expect from what should be a simple, satisfying dish. For my main, I went with a burrito and two tacos. The tacos were okay, nothing memorable. The burrito was edible but the refried beans inside were noticeably below par, watery and lacking that rich, savory flavor refried beans should have. It brought the whole dish down. To their credit, the staff was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. No complaints there, our server checked in regularly and kept things moving. The bigger issue is the dining room itself. The ambiance is really in need of a major overhaul. It feels dated and uninviting, which makes it hard to fully enjoy the experience even when the service is pleasant. Los Toltecos isn't terrible, but with some serious attention to the food quality and the space, it could be so much more. For now, it's a reluctant maybe next time. read more

We stopped for a light lunch on a Sunday. My brother is a regular here. The dining room is filled with carved colorful tables and there is a long bar at the front of the restaurant. Tv monitors were playing various sports channels. A hostess greeted us and seated us promptly. Melanie, our server, was friendly and efficient. The food came out quickly. Complementary chips were a bit stale and the salsa was watery and marginal. But, hey, they were complimentary and the guys ate 2 baskets. I had the lunch Taco Salad with chicken. The salad was old-school iceberg lettuce topped with cheese and one half slice of tomato over a bed of shredded chicken and beans. The chicken was dry and the beans were a weird consistency of syrupy. The fried shell was the best part of the salad. My husband had the Burrito Veracruz which was filled with shrimp. He said the burrito was good and ate everything on his plate. My brother had the Patron Burrito, which looked delicious, covered with salad and avocado. He enjoyed his meal as well. I don't know what the lukewarm reviews here are about - I stopped by this place randomly while in NoVa and had probably one of the top Mexican dishes ever there along with the efficient service. They make their Arroz Con Pollo differently from anywhere else I've seen, with the yellow rice on the bottom, then a layer of white cheese sauce, then heavily spiced and stir-fried chicken, yellow squash, and pineapple on top. We stopped in for a quick late lunch on Monday. There were some folks at the bar and o few tables with customers. The menu has a lunch menu, which I really appreciated. Warm Chips and a very nice salsa basket arrived quickly. We both ordered a $12 chicken chimichanga which came with lettuce, sour cream, rice and beans. Quite good for a lunch portion. The chicken chunks were fresh. We finished up with an order of sopapilla, which is really a (Spanish) New Mexican dessert or fry bread. It was okay, but I'm really spoiled with the food I get in NM. I'm used to a lighter and fluffier texture, served with honey. We will come back, and sample a few other offerings. It was a pleasant lunch. The ambiance was festive. Prices are good. Then they brought out the wrong order . We already had to wait such a long time that we just kept it instead of returning it . Lately a lot of restaurants add too much sodium to their foods . The chips were warm and crunchy and the salsa was decent. But it was all down hill from there. No information on the drink menu regarding the price or size of the margaritas. The margarita we selected advertised a mix with Cointreau and Grand Marnier, but whatever ersatz mixers that were used in their place created an overly sweet and weak drink. And one of the drinks came with a bug swimming in it, to go along with the fly that popped out of the menu when it was opened. The combo platter advertised an enchilada, a burrito, and a chile relleno. Neither of the first two were the real thing, but rather two small corn tortiallas wrapped around some meat with a watery, tasteless tomato sauce topping. The beef in the "burrito" was glorified hamburger, and neither it nor the chicken in the "enchilda" had any flavor. The chile relleno was not battered, and was filled with a mushy potato and mystery cheese filling. These came with a spoonful of bland refried beans and dry, tasteless rice. While the server kindly offered a takeout box, we didn't take her up on the offer and left most of the food on the table. Other than the chips and the attentiveness and courtesy of the server (which give the place its only star) there is nothing to recommend this place. With all the other good Mexican restaurants in the area, there is no need for us to make a return visit. read more

Greeted by a friendly staff member you can choose to sit at their massive bar, or stroll into the dining room. We chose the dining area, which was toddler friendly. First off am a hard core Central American food lover. Probably am more tough due to this, as have been to this world region quite often. That being said this restaurant has decent tacos and chimichangas. The chips and dip brought is alright, although I wish their portions were larger. Is it better as a lunch or dinner spot? Lunch in my opinion is best. Parking can be a challenge, as the restaurant is surrounded by a strip mall. Kudos to the restaurant, as they've been here some time. I do want to give them high marks for cleanliness. Also usually wait staff is with you quickly, and customer service is quite decent. This is a fairly comfortable place to eat. Great late night place. Service is quick and friendly. Bar area separate from resto so noise from tvs are minimized. Hubs had quesedaillas and he said they were great, I had the seafood rice and I was pleasantly surprised by the large amount of shrimp and scallops. My only retraction are the pineapple bits mixed in. But that's a personal ick wc I missed in the description. Though I doubt the seafood was fresh caught they were still cooked well and the rice was tasty w a cheese sauce. Dessert was a bit of a disappointment bec the fried ice cream had toasted coconut on it, again not mentioned in the menu. All in all a nice homey late night dinner spot. I came here for my birthday and enjoyed the food over all, the quesabirria tacos could've been a bit better but their margaritas and frozen margaritas were amazing, big and strong for their price. Lots of ample parking and the vibe was a little off when we first stepped in. It was a lot of folks making comments about a 5 person Hispanic group walking in when they were not Hispanic at all which felt a little off. We appreciated the service who were kind and patient with the guests who didn't speak Spanish. Familiar with the Alexandria location, this was the first time I've tried this location. My BF and I ordered takeout for lunch. Their lunch menu is a good deal and is pretty varied in offerings. I had what was essentially a carnitas burrito with tomatillo sauce that came with rice. I thought the carnitas was tender and the burrito was filling. Free chips and salsa also came with our order. I wasn't a fan of the chips as they were not very crispy, but the salsa was spicy which I liked. My BF had a burrito too and said he thought it was better tasting than food he's had at the Alexandria location. Our lunch was just over $20, and our food was ready within 12 minutes of ordering. We use to come here all the time before they moved to Dulles Mall. Since they moved to the mall the food has become average and the drinks below average. I had the Pollo Asado the chicken was not seasoned , I ordered the Hawaiian Margarita it literally taste like juice. The house Margarita is watered down. There was plenty of cheese, pick and chicken to satisfy; I could have used a bit more lettuce but it wasn't worth mentioning. The service, however, was lackluster at best. Our server took a while to come introduce herself and was slow in bringing back our drinks and taking out order. She seemed disappointed the two of us weren't ordering tons of drinks. We were on our way to a concert and aren't "pregaming at a restaurant people". The only quick response was from the runner bringing chips and salsa. Honestly not sure why the lower star reviews because we had a great experience. This place is close to home but I had avoided due to fluctuations in reviews. Stopped in on a Thur evening and sat at the bar. Server approached us right away and provided us with a large drink menu. He customized my Margarita based on a request and it was really good. We decided to have dinner here. The food menu is extensive. Complimentary chips are served warm and the salsa is ok. We ordered a small order of guacamole. It was good but nothing to rave over. I ordered a large steak quesadilla that was SO good. It was loaded with tender pieces of steak on a finely grilled tortilla and just the right amount of cheese. Hubby ordered an enchilada combo that he loved. Service was great at the bar. From the crowded that popped in and out, it looks like they have a bunch of regulars who come in to eat. Don't let the name fool you, this is not los toltecas your used to. The south riding location and the old sterling location was amazing. This place was bland and tasteless. We got chicken fijitas and carnitas. Asked for lime and cilantro to make them have some kind of flavor. Nothing was super fresh. The salsa was basically canned tomato sauce with nothing added. The chips were overly greasy. Water also tasted weird. Wait staff was fine. Ambience was loud and dark and floor was super slippery. Go to another location. Any burrito plate is not worth it - $20 for a $5 burrito is a rip of. If it says MEGA I expect a burrito that fills the plate. This barely filled a third of the plate. The tacos - in Mexico these are fried. If you order a "hard shell" expect a store bought shells. If you know you know - enough said. There were a lot of comments about the salsa and the drinks. Absolutely horrible, this dude named Humberto Mares , ( if that is even his real name lol) . Apparently he runs this place let me tell you he is the most disgusting and disturbing manager that I have ever had interaction with. The problem started with the fact that both my friends asked for patron margaritas and they were made with the most disgusting lower shelf mix/tequila ever . My friend let know dissatisfaction with this mess, to the waitress and I saw her/heard explain this to the Humberto guy. He comes arrogantly and asks why we didn't say anything earlier, well first of all the waitresses never came by to check on us except when they saw we were hailing one of them over . It wasn't even busy, seriously as you can tell by my other reviews, I don't make a habit of giving 1 star reviews. Anyhow I don't recommend this place at all.
