We spent a morning at the Lost Colony/Fort Raleigh then walked around the town of Manteo. Wanted a drink and some appetizers to hold us off until dinner so we stopped in here and were glad we did--for beer I really loved the "Holy Hand Grenade". For appetizers, the scotch egg took the cake as it was simply great. The chicken wings, curry/tika inspired, are pretty good as well. Friendly service and great views. Fair prices. Our favorite meal while staying on the outer banks. Well worth the trek into Manteo from Salvo to have lunch here. The pretzel was amazing, kids loved the chicken tenders, the pulled pork was perfect and the fries were to die for. Our server was attentive and food was out quickly. This is not a food review, well because we had no food. This is a location feel and cocktail review. First of all the whole downtown area is very nice. Food, shops, boats, views, very nice people. Here at "OBX" for My wives birthday and came across this piece of goodness for a celebration drink after eating elsewhere. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and the whole setup is old England/ colonial. Cozy. Warm and cozy. The bar staff was beyond friendly.. It's drink time. Missy birthday had the Roanoke Ice Tea, which she like/ ordered again, and I had the London Fog. I can't put my finger on which berry flavor I was tasting- which actually befits the name- but hot damn it was good. Yep I had another. The lunch crowd was getting ramped up when we were there. The smell and look of the burgers and sandwiches leaving the kitchen made us wish we could stay. This is definitely a repeat stop when we come back. This time we'll eat. read more

We went for lunch on Thursday Sept 19, 2024. Just after the lunch rush. My friends ordered Wings, Lamb Burger, and a regular burger, I had the lamb Stew. Needless to say the lamb had turned and they cooked and served it anyway same as the Regular burger, I had the Lamb stew and ate it not realizing how old it probably was. We all ended up with a small bout of food poisoning. Now you ask how would we know? We are both Chefs on vacation and have enough experience through Serve Safe to know the timing and symptoms of a food borne illness. Also let me say that that was my only meal for the day. As far as what could be improved, Get yourself a chef/Km that are serve safe qualified, Identify expired food, Use the FIFO method, Throw out anything Questionable. I will never come back and I will let people know that you serve expired food and are not a good place to go even for a touristy spot. read more

5 stars off the bat because they are pet friendly! My pupper was greeted with a nice ice cold bowl of water! We came to the lost colony for lunch. It did not disappoint. I got the pretzel! All three dipping sauces (beer cheese &mustards) were amazing. My husband got the fish and chips. They were so tasty! Service was quick. We had our food within 15 minutes of sitting down. I invite you to order two apps then have your food rushed to your table when you asked for time to eat and see what part of your meal gets cold and uneaten? Stopped in on Friday for day drinks and appetizers. We sat at the bar and ordered a round of drinks and the Huntsman to go. The bartender was very busy but he was less than friendly and any attempt to make conversation or ask for recommendations seemed as if it were a bother and just an overall inconvenience. Definitely not the vibe we were used too from bartenders back home (or just in general), but his drinks were good. We tried the pickled curry egg which was SOO tasty! Friends ordered the bone marrow appetizer because they love bone marrow but said it lacked flavor and was just "okay." The fries were delicious. The huntsman was also great - the mashed potatoes, smashed peas and pie were out of this world and it was all piping hot even after taking it home. We stopped here on our second visit to OBX. For the most part we were not disappointed. My wife had been looking forward to their shrimp and grits, and they had recently discontinued due to a recent change in ownership. This is really the only reason for the four star rating. While visiting Roanoke Island, Fat Man Reviews ventured into the Lost Colony Tavern in Manteo, NC. Lost Colony is a casual hangout pairing house brews & local beers with an eclectic pubby American menu. I took the Tour of British Isles' beer flight. This flight takes you on a tour of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales with a 4oz pour of all 8 Lost Colony ales. Starting with the lights there is the Pamlico Pale Ale, Kitty Hawk Blonde, Nags Head IPA and finishing with the Hatteras Irish Red. The dark starts with Nut Brown Ale, Charon Stout, Kill Devil Scotch Ale and finishing with the Holy Hand Grenade. I thought that most were good beers I really enjoyed the Brown Ale, Stout and the Holy Hand Grenade. The Brown and Stout tasted like a traditional ale of that fashion, but they were both fresh and crisp. The Hand Grenade was sweet and reminded me of a barley wine. Their beers are worth trying for sure. My fiancé and I split a lunch entrée and fries. We had The Huntsman, which is made with seasonal wild game, Elk was in the menu today, a handmade pie crust made with Lost Colony Nut-Brown Ale, mashed potatoes, mushy peas and a brown gravy. The mash was made well, and it was a little lumpy and rustic, which I enjoy, but it needed salt. The mushy peas were creamy and cooked well with some texture, but they also required salt. The pie crust was flaky with a nice crispiness on the top. The meat filling was juicy and cooked well with a bit of gravy inside. It did need a touch of salt and pepper, but it did not have a gamy taste. The gravy in the gravy boat was a brown and kind of sweet. It was an interesting flavor but when combined with the pie crust and the savory filling it made for an enjoyable bite. The fries were out of a bag and were fried to a perfect golden brown crispiness, but they required a touch of salt. You get an impressive amount to an order. The Lost Colony offers several British food favorites in dinners, savory pies and sweet endings. They have a full bar, the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The Fat Man says that Lost Colony Tavern is Fat Man Approved with 1 chin. read more

We were in the Outer Banks and went in to see Manteo, a really cool little city. Lost Colony Tavern is the most convenient spot there. It was very crowded (it was August on the Outer Banks) but they managed the crowed prett well. We got a table outside. It was pretty hot there, but again...August. Service was a little slower than we would have liked, but it was a solid Irish pub menu, and the food was well prepared. We had Shephard's pie, cottage pie, fish and chips - all were hot and well prepared. If you're in Manteo, Lost Colony Tavern is a solid choice. If you just need you some Irish fare, Lost Colony Tavern may be your best choice on OBX. read more

My son has severe food allergies, and they couldn't have been more accommodating. He's almost two years old, and this was the first place we've felt comfortable having him eat out at a restaurant. Disappointed with the fish and chips. We eat here often and three of us ordered the fish and chips. The fish was tough and hard to cut. I was there with in laws and didn't want to make a big deal out of it though both barely ate their lunch and mine was tough as well. I mentioned to waitress and she apologized. Though for the price one would expect much better quality. It may have something to do with the type of fish but it should never be that tough to cut. Walking in the place felt dirty. But it was the only place open. It got noisy. It is small inside. Food: burgers had burnt spots with burnt black pieces on them- burgers were dry and small. $16! Guinness beer cheese didn't taste cheesy at all. Service: the waitress had an attitude- my son and I shared the salad (which was very good albeit pricy $10) when I asked for o&v for me and ranch for my son she looked annoyed. She didn't even tell me that I would be charged $1 for a small portion of ranch. After paying while still sitting I saw it, crawling on the floor, like 2 inches long with its long antennas... I jumped up and let out a yelp. The waitress turned around - what? I told her: a roach! She said: oh that's not a roach it's a water bug. We near the water. I won't ever go back here. Not just cuz of the roach but the burgers were cheap and burnt. Service without an attitude please. And please let me know that the small portion of ranch dressing will cost $1. Then I would have not have gotten it. Waitresses and waiters must let the customer know if something cost extra. I wasted money here. read more
