    Maintenance day is Friday. This was taken on a Monday, Jan. 23... and the pool looked like this for months..

    We honestly gave Duke every opportunity to take our pool problems seriously (8 months). Duke seems very friendly and personable, and I think that is why we let our pain go on for so long. He sounded competent, but when DE started leaking back into the pool after the daily pump run shut off starting in late January, it didn't get fixed until early June when we called in a second company for a second opinion. Yes, per my request, Duke finally installed a check valve (may 30) in the inlet to the filter to prevent DE backwash, but that was just a band-aid for a long-standing air leak in the system (pressure running at only 2 psi and air bubbles in the pool return). RTV was everywhere on the plumbing joints, and what should have happened is all gaskets changed, removal of the RTV and permanent repair to the inlet to the pump. The new company diagnosed the problem in 5 minutes and had it repaired within the week. Now the filter runs quietly at 12 psi and It's a wonder the pump never burned/seized up under Duke's care. The other problem we had is no show appointments for repair and never a phone call to explain or reschedule. My poor dog had been locked up in anticipation of these appointed visits because I didn't want him getting in the way or into the DE dust (Duke had promised for several weeks to change the DE grid to troubleshoot the DE leak). The weekly maintenance at times consisted of leaf skimming and chemicals, while the DE sat on the pool floor for another week, and then another. I should not have had to request a vacuum. The pool was unusable for 5 months, and with each promise to make a repair or "try something," it waited until his regular weekly maintenance day unless I prodded him to come sooner, in which case usually ended up in a no-show anyway. It also took from Oct.-April before the the landlady's pool crawler vacuum/replacement showed back up after Duke had it "in the shop" for that long, "awaiting parts." I read these other reviews and it appears that homeowners might get better treatment, which I hope isn't the case. Just because we are renting the house does not mean our pool is a lower priority. I do need to add that on the day he was told his services were no longer needed, he went into the back yard before the padlock was changed and retrieved the automatic pool vacuum without announcing his presence or discussing the ownership status of the vacuum. Now after using another company for three weeks who repaired the air leaks to the system and has our pool sparking clean, I realized I should have seen the warning signs far earlier with Duke. I feel taken advantage of for giving him the benefit of a doubt time and time again and bending over backwards and waiting for months for the pool to be usable.     Duke provides a great service and goes the extra mile to make sure that everything is working just right. We had some problems with our pool vacuum which he was able to take care of. By far the best Pool Service we have ever used, dependable, thorough and professional. We highly recommend his services to all Pool and Spa owners in the San Diego area.

After a routine service visit to my vinyl pool, the pool began losing water rapidly and dropped to less than halfway full within days. A Vinyl Pool Repair company later identified a large puncture in the liner and advised the damage appeared consistent with blunt force. It is in the very bottom corner of the pool on the 8ft side, somewhere a 5 year old child couldn't reach. I checked camera footage to see their technician using his tool in an up and down motion as if he's spearfishing in my pool. Days later - the water dropped less than halfway. Other red flags - they removed my existing vacuum and replaced with a different one without my knowledge or permission. This specific vacuum was not recommended for vinyl from the vinyl EXPERTS that I consulted with. Furthermore, they also charged me on a random day for some type of "annual fee" without disclosing that upfront. Lastly, the last service visit we had (on a rainy day - no clue why the guy still showed up), the employee went behind the camera area and stood under my sundeck on his phone. Is that what you're getting paid for? Service visits under 10 minutes while you stand around. There were multiple red flags I ignored and excused but the damage to the pool was the last straw. Despite the timing of the incident, the severity of the water loss, camera footage, and the findings from ABCO, Golden State declined to take responsibility for the damage or assist with replacement costs. As expected: they responded to dodge accountability by saying the vinyl was in brittle condition - this still doesn't change the fact that you punctured my pool. See you in court.

Never try to upsell you on stuff you don't need; they just tell you what's actually necessary and get it done. Love that. They come the same time every week, every time. Half the time we don't even know they've been here, which is honestly the dream. Easy to get in touch with, and they have great contacts if you need anything else done too. Just a really well-run company with good people. Highly recommend.
