Needed a quick bite and rolled in here about 20 minutes to closing. No problem. On our return the second day the owner was there and said he can get the food out consistently in 7 minutes. I had the haddock chowder. Really nice with chunks of flaky white fish, lite cream and butter. This is why I wanted to go back for fish the second day. Wife had the clam chowder which was also great and more creamy and with butter too. Will always stop here when in the area. Showed up 10 minutes prior to opening and the super-friendly staff went out of their way to make sure we knew we were welcome, offering to take our order early if we were willing to wait the few minutes to eat. As a follow up to my 10/29/18 review: My insurance company ended up not charging me for this incident. After discussion with the insurance company's upper management, they ordered a further review of the claim and said that they had made a mistake in approving the LOST GULL's claim. They found pictures on the internet of the sign and protective posts from previous years that showed the same damage before I came along. Although it was too late to do anything about it, they said I would not be charged for their mistake. So if you're wondering why we all pay higher insurance rates, here's one example! read more

Reading the other reviews we were excited to stop in on a Sunday afternoon when we found ourselves in the area. Seems very popular. I really wanted to enjoy the food...the fries were awesome, tartare sauce homemade and delish, coleslaw amazing but....fish smelt a little fishy. Mr H ate it regardless and didn't get sick so I could be oversensitive but I don't think fish should smell at all fishy.... It's a cute little casual place on the side of the road and we'll probably try it again and update then..... I imagine parking would be a nightmare in high season. read more

My wife and I have been to The Lost Gull a couple of times before and we always buy the haddock chowder, which is fantastic. This time was no different and we both ordered the haddock chowder which was full of large pieces of haddock and lots of tender chunks of potato. We also shared a small order of fried clams and french fries. The clams were lightly battered and fried golden brown. They melted in your mouth. The french fries were your traditional style and these ones were a little over cooked. We also shared a fried haddock sandwich and with some tartar sauce capped off a wonderful meal. read more

My fish & chips was great! So fresh, hand cut fries! My husband had the clam strips which were also great! They offer all the condiments you need including vinegar for the fish which I love! I would definitely recommend a visit. Staff is also super helpful and nice. read more

To be honest I remember this restaurant being a phenomon. However upon my latest visit I saw that for 50 dollars you could basically get a plate of fries with a side of seafood, and by seafood I mean about 10 foreign shrimps and a slim peice of Hancock that was more batter than fish. The best fried clams ever! They're huge!!! You can actually taste the clams unlike other places. The batter is just perfect, not too thick (some places make it seem like there's big clams due to the batter). It was wonderful. From the pulled pork to the baked scallops. We had 8 with us. The food came fast and the owners were so nice. Been there for 1st time in a few years and was very disappointed. Scallop coating came off when handled and the grease drained out. The onion rings were saturated in grease and I considered them to be tasteless. $20 bucks wasted, but will not ever visit again. My wife's fish and fries were average to good. read more

This is a small mom n pop restaurant on the side of the road. The food is definitely affordable and. It too expensive. I had the stuffed scallops which were creamy and had a toasty buttery crumple on top. This was served with a baked potato which was filling. read more

I stopped the other day around 4:30 for an early dinner. I ordered the Haddock Fish & Chips dinner. That was fish, fries, coleslaw and a roll. The fish was good but the batter fell off. I would return but only order a box, not the dinner. Drinks are by the bottle. read more

We visited Range pond, another nice place, and looked for somewhere to have lunch. Found the lost gull, and what a find it was, I am a fried clam nut and these were the best I've gotten anywhere. The place is always packed. The parking lot is small, but... So we decided to stop and finally try it. The shrimp roll was a pile of tiny shrimp served on a buttered and grilled roll and a filling and tasty bargain at $2.99. Nice roadside place to stop and get a local bite, yes things like lobstah rolls and fried seafood come to mind. However, portion to price is a bit on high side. Went to Daddy O's down the road a bit on the next day and got same lobstah roll with side of fry's and cole slaw for roughly $3t less. Saw 3 things on Sunday night that instantly told me something had changed at the Lost Gull. I've been there a hundred times over the past 10 years and Sunday was the first time a guy took my order. It's always been pretty, young women. I then noticed that the kitchen was dirty. Never saw that before. Finally, our portions were smaller. Same taste, just smaller. Looks like new ownership, complete new staff. I'll visit a couple more times to see if things have improved. Otherwise, it's not special any more. read more

This shack was a gem! There is not much seating, but it was not crowded. The clam box was the best deal, and the clams were cooked to perfection. I thought Cappy's chef was great, but this cook was awesome. The portion for the price was incredible. There was neither a TV or booze; it felt like a family place. And the food was outstanding. Went here for lunch for our first time yesterday. My wife got a crab roll and clam chowder, and I got a whole belly clam/sea scallop combo and onion rings. My wife said the crab roll was good... but honestly everything else was very bland with way too much tasteless batter. My combo came out with way too many fries and way too little seafood... let's face it, if you're going to a seafood restaurant, you're going for the seafood, not the fillers. Even the onion rings, which looked great, barely had any flavor with all the batter on them. If the batter had some flavor, I guess maybe the fried items would have been better. Hard telling not knowing. My wife kept adding oyster crackers to her chowder to give it more flavor. I know in this part of the state, sadly, there are not too many choices for seafood restaurants. It's just frustrating to go to a seafood restaurant in Maine, and not get great tasting seafood. It just doesn't make any sense. read more

I am sad that I have to do another post on the Lost Gull we went there for supper the other evening and ordered 3 no belly clam baskets and one with belly and I have to say that only two of them had bellies. The clams were dry because they were overcooked I was highly disappointed. It could be because there's probably not much activity going on there this time of year in Maine but none the less I was very disappointed. We will be going back when the weather warms up in hopes of getting better quality food read more
