My neighbors own this spot! This is such a cute little coffee shop. I mean it's really pretty spacious inside for it being in Takoma Park/Takoma. As the weather gets nice I plan to come down and work outside on their patio area for the day. For my order I had a cortado sweetened and an empanada. My cortado was not quite sweet enough but when I let the barista know he sweetened it more for me and it was just right. I'd say that counts for excellent service. My empanada was delicious and I could have honestly eaten another one but I took my food to go. Will definitely be back for another empanada and to enjoy the space and work outside. read more

After working out of Brightwood for a number of years, they opened their first cafe in February 2021. Here's why you should visit: 1) Coffee: They have a full coffee menu from lattes to pour overs to cortados. The coffee is sustainably sourced and roasted in small batches in Washington, D.C. If you're not into coffee, still go. They make hot chocolate and chai lattes. 2) Food: Every morning they put out fresh pastries (sweet and savory) and empanadas. For $10, you get three empanadas. I ordered buffalo chicken, bacon and egg and beef empanadas. They come with sauce making them the best I've ever had. The filling is flavorful and the dough doesn't overpower it. 3) Space: It's well-designed with a stunning bar where you order. In partnership with University of Maryland, art hangs on the walls. During the pandemic, you can't stay, but eventually there will be a few seats. If you love coffee, Lost Socks is worth your time. This place was pretty busy in the early afternoon. I like that this coffee shop has a good range of food options - bakery pastries, sandwiches, and empanadas. I like the open concept of the interior. There is a good amount of seating outside and inside. The iced latte we got was very good. The coffee taste was spot on. However, the cappuccino I ordered was not my favorite. For my preference, I like my cappuccinos with less foam and not very hot - but I understand that the 'traditional' cappuccinos typically have a lot of foam. Next time I come, I will try a hot latte. Lost Sock Roasters is an excellent little coffee shop found in Takoma Park. I visited a number of times and both the coffee and breakfast options are amazing. It is clear that their syrups are homemade, especially that in their hazelnut flat white which has a rich nutty aroma and flavor. They have some seating inside as well as a small patio out front, which was fully shaded at 11am by the building and ideal for dog watching ‍ Quick and attentive service, which is always awesome. I got the dulce de leche latte and thought the coffee was good, but honestly couldn't taste the dulce de leche at all. I'll go back and try another coffee beverage and see how that is. This cafe is only a mile walk from my sister's house, so I decided to walk here on a super nice DC morning. They have great coffee here. They roast their beans and so their coffee is not bitter. As usual I got a cold brew. I had it on their nice patio while I waited for my sister to pick me up. I am not hungry in the mornings and my sister and I planned to have an early lunch, so I didn't get any food. If you do want something to eat, they have savory empanadas and breakfast sandwiches. I've gotten the Empanadas and Smoked Salmon Cragel (croissant shaped like a bagel) before and they were great, so you can have a delicious, hot breakfast here as well. The staff is really nice. They encourage you to wear a mask indoors as you're ordering, but I forgot to bring my mask. They let me order anyway. I took my coffee outside as soon as I got it. When I went back in to order a coffee for my sister maybe an hour later, the young man remembered my name . :) I'd definitely come back here again next time I visit my sisters. read more

The food is surprisingly delicious for a coffee shop with breakfast and lunch options from crogels to sandwiches. Ambiance is cute and modern with nice indoor and outdoor seating options, and service is friendly. My one complaint is that on weekends it is not handicap accessible because the handicap entrance is through Children's National, which locks its doors on weekends. They should add a ramp to the front entrance to allow for easy stroller access. Since I was kitty-corner over at donut run, I had to try this coffee shop. I love the relaxing ambience inside with tons of plants and white/glass decor. It definitely made me forget the bitter cold outside. I ordered a coquito seasonal latte with oat milk and it was a blend of Vietnamese coffee and a flat white. We also ordered the gaucho sandwich which they hand-delivered all toasty warm in its paper sleeve. I am a big fan of patronizing local coffee shops and glad that we have quite a few around us. They tend to have good customer service. One exception recently is this specific location of Lost Sock. I have gone to this location a few times. A couple of days ago, I took my daughter here to get something to drink. We walked into the shop about 4:03PM, and the door was not locked. Before I could get a word out, I a guy was so quick to shell across the counter that they were closed. He did not even ask a single question about what we want...as we were ushered out of the store. Could this guys have handled this is a better way? Aboslutely, yes, just ask Trader Joes what good customer service is. While I had a pleasant experience at the Kennedy St. location inside of ANXO. I don't plan on patronizing Lost Sock. There are too many local coffee shops with better customer service. read more

I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with the service at your restaurant. For the second time now, I specifically ordered a chicken empanada, and yet again, I was given a beef empanada. This isn't just a simple mistake--this is a serious issue that goes against my health and spiritual practices. Your restaurant pretends to be a liberal, woke establishment, but clearly, you do not take the sentiments of people of color and other ethnicities into account. This is not just a slip-up; it's a blatant disregard for the beliefs and values of your customers. So good. If you want a lot of coffee choices, and by that I mean traditional drinks made with lots of different coffees/origins, this as good as it gets. I had a fantastic single origin Cortado, but i also had a great Single origin cold brew, which is very hard to come by. That's not to take anything away from their house blends. I also had an excellent cortado made with their house blend. In fact, their house espresso blend was one of the best house espressos I can ever remember having. It had a good chocolate and creamy quality, but also very nice acidity. Staff was really nice. It's been a few weeks, so I don't remember the prices, but they seemed reasonable, especially for bags of coffee. And I didn't try the food. read more

This place reminds me of San Francisco where I'm from. The vibes are so open and friendly and the place, as well as the atmosphere, are full of character. The coffee is in my opinion the best coffee in the DMV. High quality espresso drinks and matcha is well done. Their food is bomb, my personal favorite is the crogel. They have all sorts of lovely treats though. The staff are actually angels from heaven, everyone is so sweet and happy to be there. Also they sell plants. Love yall read more

Lots of interesting beans and plants for sale, and the food looks very good. The cortado I got left a lot to be desired and did not taste balanced at all. What a find while in DC! 5 stars. We enjoyed a couple of capaccinos, espresso, and a latte-- all fantastic. Shots were pulled on a "Her", a gorgeous 2-group Slayer Steam. The coffee was well extracted and clearly roasted well. Nico and team (who are incredibly personable by the way) recently returned from a trip to Colombia to source beans-- so clearly, I had to try the Laboyano (Colombia) roast. Awesome. Their espresso blend, Two Steps (Brazil/Colombia), was also great. The team's ability to control their bean source, the roast process, and the espresso extraction shows in the cup. Speaking of roasting-- It is done at their off-site location on a 6-kilo Mill City Roasters machine. The shop is located in the renovated Takoma Theatre Building. One of the best unflavored iced triple shot oatmilk lattes I've ever had! Normally, it's too strong/runny and the ice melts fast but here, the latte was foamy and creamy with the right amount of ice that doesn't melt fast! The atmosphere is wonderful since the staff is positive and cheery. Wherever you sit, you have a view of the outside. They do have patio seating too. Heads up that they don't have wifi but the vibes here are great that you don't need your phone. :) only downside is that they didn't have any vegan options. I think the only option - maybe, was the avocado toast with their homemade pickles on sourdough but that's pretty much it. read more

I tried this coffee shop because it shares the building with Children's National Takoma. I don't think I'll eat there again though. I ordered the iced Horchata and it was tasty. A little too much ice but still good. I tried the bacon, egg, and cheese empanadas (3 for $20 or $4.50 each) and that's where I went wrong. I had to wait a bit longer than I expected I would since everything was already made and only needed to be warmed. Ok fine not that big of a deal. The highlight of the meal was the dipping sauce. It was delicious and for 3 empanadas I needed a lot more than what was served. Half way through the 2nd empanada I was scraping the container. The empanadas themselves were not good. There was a strong freezer burn taste to them and they were super dry. I needed that sauce!! So I'll come back to try the chai or coffee but definitely not the food. read more
