After leaving a pretty packed H Mart on a Saturday morning, we stopped by Lotte Plaza in Ellicott City and it was noticeably more manageable crowd wise. We had already done most of our shopping, but it was nice to walk around without feeling rushed. Parking is a little cramped but manageable. The store itself is pretty clean considering the amount of foot traffic it gets. You do get some organic smells in certain sections, especially around the seafood area, but that is expected with fresh products. As far as groceries, they usually offer multiple options at different price points, which is helpful. Whether you are looking for something budget friendly or more specialty, you will likely find both. It is a great source for finding ingredients and snacks you will not see in an everyday grocery store. Items are labeled clearly, which helps if you are unfamiliar with certain cuisines, though sometimes I still have to do a little homework in the aisle (on my phone). Checkout speed was decent when we went, nothing crazy, just smooth and efficient. Staff is pleasant, though there is rarely much interaction outside of the register. In the rear there is a food court with multiple vendors serving different cuisines. You can find Korean dishes like bibimbap and bulgogi, Chinese stir fries and noodles, Vietnamese pho and banh mi, along with fried chicken and other hot foods. I have seen plenty of people on social media doing food reviews there, and once you see the variety it makes sense. There is a decent amount of seating, and the food comes out quick with solid portions. Overall, it is good for families, foodies, meal prep, or anyone just looking to try something new. I have been shopping here for years but only for the frozen Ducks. I have a thing for poultry and this remains a favorite. You definitely have to know how to cook it. Which I do. Duck can be greasy but I cook mine on a rack that let's the grease drop off. They always have them in stock. Service is prompt. They actually clean the duck very well prior to freezing it. I often forget about Lotte because I always go to H Mart, but someone told me that I could find Korean rice cakes filled with honey at Lotte so I stopped in recently. Alas, they did not have the item I was looking for, but I was really excited to see the store because it is a lot nicer than I remember it. They have a little bit more international items at Lotte versus H Mart, which tends to have a little bit more Korean focused items which I love. The produce section here is beautiful and for the winter they are doing roasted sweet potatoes and the entire checkout section smells so lovely. This is connected to the larger shopping area where you can find other creative items for household not just groceries and there is a helpdesk. I asked the staff questions and I will say there sometimes there is a language barrier, but they are usually very friendly. read more

My first experience of a Lotte store, as we don't have one where I'm from, and I think I may be addicted. It is the all-in-one Asian store. During my recent visit this holiday season, I discovered that there were many more shops there than I thought. Not only groceries, but also skincare, clothing & shoes, toys, home goods, jewelry, a hair salon, a food court, oh my! Each section is its own vendor, so they work separately and not as employees of Lotte. If you buy something, you must check out in their section. The ladies I have met were helpful. I was there over the summer and found myself sucked into the Korean skincare for the first time, which I fell in love with. The clerk was helpful and guided me through my choice. Being a newbie to Korean skincare, she labeled each item in the box set with a numbered sticker in the order to use them. Prices were comparable to retail stores. They also gave free samples and they have a point system. Once you get 50 points you can use to save $50 off your next purchase. To give you an idea, I've bought three skincare kits and I am about 5 points away to hitting it. Not sure if the points cross over to the other Lotte stores in the area, but my guess is they're separate. The ladies in the clothing section were helpful as well when I was looking for something for my mom. They have a room in the back of their section that's more of a storage area for emplyees only, but they told me I could try things on there. Not a fitting room for sure, but she guarded it so no one came in. Definitely will be back and want to check out the food and hair salon! read more

This review is really for the food court. There are four stalls selling Korean and Japanese dishes. You'll find big portions for a great price here. It used to be cheaper but it's no surprise they bumped up the prices. Today, I ordered the katsudon ($11) and my husband ordered the curry tonkatsu ($14) from one of the stalls. The dishes packed a lot of flavor and came out quickly. The miso soup was kind of bland though. Also, the food court can get a bit packed so you may have to wait to grab a seat. All in all, the food court is a great place to stop by before or after going grocery shopping. The store itself has a great variety of all types of international foods including Korean, Japanese, Filipino, Indian and more. read more

Visited on 10/16/21, review written on 11/3/21 I haven't been to Lotte to purchase produce. Typically I come for packaged products. Items on a recent visit included: frozen edamame and spinach, sweet/salty crackers in a yellow box (my favorite), and a bagful of persimmons. My recollection in the past when I would take my mom to Lotte was that the prices were considerably cheaper than the American grocery stores. However, this doesn't appear to be true. I didn't see big savings. Maybe I never paid attention before or because my husband does the grocery shopping for our household that I was unaware of how expensive groceries are now. There is a larger selection of produce at Lotte compared to our local Giant in Columbia. I would also say the produce here is fresher than that at Wegman's. They have a deli and seafood department which I have not visited. Additionally, they have a market with food stalls on the left end of the store. My friend introduced me to tayaki, a Japanese fish-shaped cake typically filled with red bean. She said they sell it at the kiosk so it's made fresh. Love it here at the local Asian mart! Always fresh produce and things you simply can't find elsewhere. Love the sweet Asian pears. We tend to come in for the take home sushi that's made fresh and discounted after 3 or 4pm. The beef bulgolgi rolls are great and we HAVE to get the japchae noodles too. Excellent Korean based Asian grocery that also has a variety of East Asian and Southeast Asian ingredients. Prices are often cheaper than H mart across the street but produce quality can be a little less fresh. Make sure you are prepared to use your produce within the week or you risk moldy fruit/vegetables. Overall great place for restocking a variety of items or if you just want to pick up a few things for a specific dish/menu. They have a large prepared banchan/side dish selection at the entrance by the vegetables with ready to eat and marinated foods. They also have a small market to the side selling clothing/beauty supplies/barbershop and household goods. Make sure to check out the food court which is off to the left side of the store. They have a small bakery with korean bread and pastries and fresh Taiyaki (fish shaped pastries with red bean filling) that looked very popular. They also had stalls with a variety of foods including Japanese fusion (udon, yakisoba, teriyaki chicken), sushi place with rolls and Korean style chirashi (a version of poke) and Chinese Korean store at the end (Manna) with typical soup/noodle dishes like Jjampong (spicy seafood noodles) and jjajangmyung (black bean paste noodles). I had the Clam Kalgukso which was very good but definitely had a good amount of msg as I was feeling thirsty afterwards. Their kimchi was only ok but to be expected for food court quality. I even asked the person behind the customer service before getting additional bags and he also stated it was on sale. But when we went to pay, they did not honor it. There's a variety of items, including many I have never heard of....I'm going to go every few weeks just to try some of those tasty looking fruit and veggies. There's even a small food court, with three or 4 restaurants. I had some delicious Korean ribs that I can't wait to have again. This review is actually very over due. We come here pretty much every weekend for the past 2-3 years now. This is a Korean based grocery store, so you can find a variety of authentic Korean products here. What is nice is that H Mart is actually just across the street, but I have come to find H mart to be a bit more pricer than Lotte. I really like their mini fish market here as they can prepare it all kinds of ways for you. In addition, their prices are better than H mart's. I think H mart makes their products look better, thus, presenting it in a more delicate way, but at the end of the day fish is fish. Lotte's produce is sometimes questionable because it is not always the most fresh. You do want to go to H Mart for that or Great Wall Supermarket further down 40 East towards Cantonsville. However, the poultry and beef aren't bad at all and I find them to be mostly cheaper than H mart as well. We used to eat at the food court here all the time. Our favorite was Manna which I think had the most modern Korean food, but not yet Americanized. I find the stall next to Manna to be the most traditional as it has a couple blood sausage (which is delish), but may be a turn off to people who are not familiar with Korean food. There is a total 4 stalls selling food, in addition to 1 baked goods stall. We have never tried the baked goods section, but their products do look very good . They seem to be big on their fish shaped waffles. I think the kimchi that Lotte has on sale in the refrigerator aisle packs more flavor than the kimchi the Lotte makes by the cooked foods section. Their cooked food section sells a variety of banchans, kimchi, soups, stews, kimbap, fried pancakes, fried croakers, etc. If you wait until the evenings, the hot foods section lowers their prices so it can sold to prevent it from going bad. I will continue to back here every weekend, since I always compare prices between H Mart, Lotte, and Greatwall Supermarket. Definitely worth the trip if you never been to a Korean market read more

I would give 5 starts to this Lotte, meaning the store overall -- I always enjoy shopping there. It's clean, the service is quick, the prices are right, the choices are many. This single star is for the place in the food court that's the first one (on the right) when you go in - it sells Japanese food. For nearly two decades I've been going there, ordering chicken teriyaki, and occasionally udon as well. I always tip well (in cash). I used to converse with the lady who worked there many years ago, because I speak a bit of Japanese but after she left, the new owners spoke Korean and, mea culpa, I've never learned any Korean. This year, I've noticed the portions have been significantly reduced. Ok, times are hard, some stores raise prices, some cut portions, some do both. No hard feelings. I get it. However, I've also noticed the previous size portions are still being given to some others, people the proprietor (who has been there at least the last decade) seems to know. She hasn't ever said hello to me, something I put down to the language barrier and to the fact that although I always recognize her and say hello before ordering, she sees a lot of people and I am just one in the crowd. Last time I was there, I ordered the exact same dish as another customer she had a brief interaction with. We paid same price for our dishes. We waited side by side for them. When they came out, one portion was almost twice the size of the other one. She made sure to gesture so I knew mine was the smaller one. Why do this? I've been a good customer there for so many years. It didn't leave a good taste in my mouth, which is a pity, because the quality of the food is pretty good. read more

What a fun place to shop! There is so much variety, including many unique items you wouldn't be able to get anywhere else. It's so overwhelming, it is hard to even put into words how much there is to select from. They offer an assortment of produce, meats, desserts, side dishes..the list goes on! You can buy items fresh pre-packaged, frozen pre-packed, fresh or frozen self-packing, dried items, etc. They offer mainly unique Korean staples, but also have Indian, Mexican, and American items. I additionally enjoy the mini dessert bun cart, and food court in the back. An ideal back-up for good eats when I don't feel like making the dish myself. Highlights of this trip: $1 cartons of strawberries, fresh kimchi buckets, fresh bulgogi, frozen calamari rings on sale, delicious warm green tea buns, and a crazy variety of steamed buns to select from. Added bonus there are mini tasting stations throughout the store, where friendly staff offer samples of treats to try and take home. Everyone was delightful to interact with. I'm guessing this is H Mart's counterpart. My buddy wanted to come here to stock up on some food. We had just got done eating at a Korean barbecue place in the same shopping center, so this was a very short walk. As I walked in, I noticed that this was more than just a grocery store. It had a wing that housed a shopping plaza selling all kinds of goods from Korea. This wing was closed when we walked in late evening on Saturday. The grocery store had a whole bunch of food items from Korea, many of which I'm not too familiar with. Two items that stood out to me was the Caffe Bene brand coffee, and the small probiotic yogurt containers. The place is well stoked and pretty clean. I would come by if not for the seamless experience then for the cultural experience. read more

Since Onion Soup is very hard to make, that should be the indicating dish. For me, the seafood section in a supermarket is the hardest one to maintained, if it's very clean, which indicating the store shall be successful and well run. +1) Regardless the quality of the individual store, there are so many options of food. I usually purchase meat or sea food from here. And sometimes Asian spices for Korean barbecue or Asian stir fry noodles. I am not super impressed by their meat. I love lamb so whenever I go there they usually have lamb legs but very thin slices of lamb and absolutely no fat at all. Most often than not I shop at the halal market where they cater to our liking but the days when Halal market is closed is when I prefer Lotte. They also have something called black goat. Not sure what this is cause I have never heard of it. May be I will try it next time and see if it tastes better than their lamb. Well, on a positive side, if you like pork then there's no other place better than Lotte market. They have all different parts of pork that you could ever imagine you could cook. You can also ask them for recipe if they are in a good mood. I love pork belly so i usually buy pork belly from here. Apart from meats, they also have veggies. Veggies look to be in fresh but I shop my veggies from Patel bothers. The only reason I buy lamb from here is because it's much cheaper than the halal place. I often do not compromise quality over quantity but sometimes I do. So if you want good quality lamb or goat then I would recommend any halal place. read more

the hair salon here was dissatisfactory, i regret not going to my regular salon, i asked for layers and curtain bangs but my hair ended up blunted and uneven, not my vision, it also ended up much shorter than what i expected, my hair is very difficult to style now without it looking awkward, the barber tried her best but it was just not to my expectations, this hair salon is good if you just care about affordability, but if you care about good style or have an important upcoming event i would play it safe and choose a different salon read more

I've been to this Lotte on-and-off for the past 15+ years witnessing it being closed back in 2007 due to a rat infestation and numerous other health infractions to now where everything is ridiculously overpriced. The cashiers are better than in the early 2010's when many of them would "accidentally" overcharge you at the register (somehow they never undercharged). Some items in the seafood section don't have prices (certain shrimps). Expiration dates are sometimes completely fake. See the picture of this refridgerated fish (frozen) purchased in Dec 2022 with a March 2023 date. How is that possible lol. Hmart is right across the street. Go there instead. read more

I'm reviewing the small food court in Lotte Plaza. If you come in through the supermarket, walk left and you'll stumble onto the small food court. Although it's limited, it's pretty varied. You can get soondae/pig's feet, noodles/rice, sushi, and there's even a small pastry stall that has walnut shaped bread stuffed with walnut and red bean paste or mini fish pastries stuffed with custard cream. Judging from the repetitive reviews of the soondae place, the lady who works the register there must be consistently nasty and contemptuous. Because when I walked up to order pig's feet, she rolled her eyes and clicked her tongue at me, like "Oh, another customer to deal with." It's really off-putting and makes you think she must have had a long and bad day, but since all the reviews say the same thing, I guess every day must be a bad day and every customer must be hassle to deal with. This supermarket is run down compared to the other ones down the same road, and the people can be really offensive and unhappy, but my friend prefers the jjajangmyeon here better than the one at Hanoori town, and so far this is the only place within a wide radius that has the goldfish bread, which are the fish-shaped cake stuffed w/ red bean (big fish) or custard (little fish that are on counter and not made to order). So this place gets an extra star for that. read more

I never enjoyed coming to this store because... 1. Parking is crazy! You have to drive 2 mph to make sure they don't hit you. 2. It gets crowded and the aisles are very narrow. Many of the customers are good at thinking everybody is invisible and they are the only ones in the store. 3. The people that work there are stuck up and very rude!!! I can handle the top 2 reasons but not this one. I would have to prepare myself to go in and get all my items and hurry up and leave! The people stare at you like you're an alien from another planet. Then when you ask a question to the Korean workers, they act like they don't understand you but ultimately they don't want to help you. My last straw was when I was checking out and the cashier was friendly to all the other customers before me but when she rang up my stuff, she didn't acknowledge me or give me eye contact. I could feel the tension while I was standing there. When I paid, I told her thank you. She simply ignored me and kept ringing up the next customer so I said it again loudly! And she finally said something. I don't care what store you go into, the cashier should acknowledge you by speaking and giving eye contact. She didn't say hello or give me my total. NOTHING!! Those Koreans are obviously racist and that is the reason why I won't shop there again and I will drive further and go to Han Ah Reum which is about 7 miles further. Or to the Lotte or Han Ah Reum in Silver Springs or to this other Korean store called Jumbo in Temple Hills which is closer to my area. Every customer should be treated with respect. read more

I'm giving this a five so it gets noticed over H-Mart. Don't get me wrong, H-Mart is a wonderland of delicious asian treats. But Lotte is all that and more. Everything seems to be cheaper in Lotte and the quality of the produce seems to be much higher. They have a huge fish section that is just kind of overwhelming. What's more is they have an INDIAN aisle. I know, you don't go to a Korean supermarket for Indian food, but in this case, you do. I've had a hard time finding Indian treats anywhere near Baltimore, and viola, here it is. They also have a big food court a la H-Mart. Actually, the store in general looks pretty much exactly like H-mart. I just like the selection better. So yeah, H-Mart great. Lotte Mart, better. read more

You can't take carts beyond the entrance area so if you're shopping alone & buy a bunch of stuff, you're screwed.
