I ordered pickup from Lotus Test Kitchen on GrubHub. It's pretty conveniently located downtown, not too far from my office, so big win. I don't have too much to say in terms of service, since I just grabbed my food to go, but I was pleased that it was ready on time. The interior seemed pretty clean, decent for a casual spot. In terms of food, I thought the Spicy Korean BBQ Beef Bowl and Bao Bao were both solid, but nothing out of this world. The bun itself was a bit denser than I'd prefer. Generally, I'm more so a fan of "authentic" than "fusion," but I can't fault them for that. The bowl felt pretty healthy, so I'd consider ordering it again.

The portions were HUGE! I would highly recommend and the servers are super nice. There aren't that many seats inside so be prepared to eat elsewhere, but the food was pretty solid. I love the concept of fast cooked Asian food and prices were affordable for Boston!

Food: 1 bowl is very filling. They make everything to order so you know what you're getting is really fresh. Service: fast. I came during lunch hours and there was a crowd inside. I walked out with my food within 10 minutes which is great. Ambiance: small hole in the wall place. You can eat inside, but i prefer to eat elsewhere. Overall: I'll definitely come back to try the other bowls.

Braised pork belly with noodles. Yum!

Amazing pork belly bowl and lemongrass chicken bowl. Will certainly return quite often to try all of the dishes on the menu. What a great find in my neighborhood!

    Tofu Teriyaki Bowl

Ordered teriyaki tofu bowls and the tofu was rubbery, the noodles were fine, the juxtaposition of Kale with the hot noodles was a little odd. Given many of the prior good reviews this may have been an off night. I hope.

    Beef Bulgogi Bowl

The beef bulgogi bowl is actually very good. My only complaint is for $15.99 the meat to rice/veggie ratio is off. I have basically a whole bowl of veggies and rice left with no meat to go with it.

This was really good food! I honestly can't remember the name of what I ordered however the people working absolutely helped me order something that I'd like! Nice and hot food with a splash of spicy, so delicious! The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. They also serve boba drinks! 10/10 would recommend & would go again!

We grabbed these bowls before heading on our train back to NYC, and it was lowkey one of the (if not THE) best thing we ate during our trip? Service/ambiance: There were 2 other people in the store with us, so we only waited around 10 minutes for the food to be made after ordering. Considering it seems like they cooked and assembled it on the spot that was nice! It's a lowkey spot with some bar-style seating so I think it'd be great for a quick, casual bite. Food: The bowl with chicken definitely had more meat than the bulgogi bowl - so note that in case you're trying to get the most food! Loved the mix of veggies with rice and meat. It felt like a well balanced meal with a lot of flavor! The portion for the price was definitely good - it made me wish we had similar offerings in NYC (if you know of something similar let me know!!!)

    Plastic bits in my smoothie.

The good: 1) food was tasty and portions are generous with the bowl. Can't go wrong with any of the meats or sauces. The rice, noodles and salad were all great options too. 2) drinks were tasty! I tried the passion fruit, dragon berry, and watermelon smoothie (disclaimer with this one later) The bad: 1) Parking is near impossible around this area, so if you're picking up I would recommend walking or you could try double parking on one side of the street. 2) The Baos only had a few slivers of meat, not worth it - I would get the bowls instead. The buns were fluffy and warm, but not freshly made. 3) my watermelon smoothie had grinded plastic bits. I'm not sure how they got in there but initially I thought they were seeds, so I ate them. But after finishing 75% of my smoothie I spit out the hard pieces and they were in fact plastic. I called and was able to get a refund but plastic in my smoothie... really? They're carcinogenic. Despite the unfortunate things with my order, I will still give them a try. The bowls were good and are a great option for lunch

I like their extensive menu and choice to customize everything! The staff is friendly and the interior is clean and peaceful. They only have a few seats on the side for dine in but they're normally a to go/pick up restaurant. I came for the bao baos, but they were super disappointing. Beef Bulgogi Bowl - 10/10 This was surprisingly amazing! I got the noodles instead of the rice and the noodles is like soy sauce lo mein, super tasty. They cook all the meats on spot for the bowls, the bulgogi was hot and tender when I got it! The noodles were hot and fresh as well! I can taste that the beef was marinated well and it has a nice caramelization on it. Generous portion of meat to vegetables to noodle ratio. Pork Belly Bao Bao - 3/10 Very very bad. I was super underwhelmed! The porkbelly was dry and flavor less, seems like it was cooked beforehand because it wasn't as hot as my bulgogi beef. Super big bun, lots of Romain lettuce flying around and a small piece of pork belly. The sriracha aioli that came on the side was very peppery, not good. Lotus milk green tea - 8/10 Refreshing and a clear green tea taste. Not too sweet, doesn't taste sweet at all actually. The white pearls were perfectly cooked, nice and chewy and not to sweet as well. Standard boba drink, but I'd get boba somewhere else.

    Spicy Korean BBQ Pork Bowl

I mean this as a compliment, but the food here reminds me of a VERY elevated mall food experience. I've had the spicy Korean BBQ pork bowl boxed lunch from here about 2-3 times now and I have still not gotten tired of it. The bbq pork is amazing! It's tender and it's cut into the most perfect bite sized pieces with the perfect grill to it. The gochujang sauce is a key player in this bowl, as it marinates not only the meat but also gives the noodles a bit more flavor. I also really like the fresh and crunchy contrast that the other toppings provide. I think for the price you pay, it's also a good portion size. Typically, leftover food from takeout doesn't do great when heating it up the next day but this is far from the truth when it comes to Lotus test kitchen. I heated it up on a pan and all the flavors were enhanced, with the noodles and chicken getting a glazy texture and flavor to it. I want to try other bowls, but I also love the BBQ bowl too much to take a chance

    Unagi Bowl
    Iris P.

4.5/5 -- i got the unagi bowl, and the eel was so good i'm salivating at the thought of it - the kale mix, sunny side up egg, and avocado were a perfect balance to the savoriness of the eel - the service was so great! the lady there was super sweet and friendly:) - the only reason i'm docking half a point is that i didn't realize the avocado and egg were going to be extra $ otherwise i probably wouldn't have gotten them that, and i feel like there could've been more veggies to make it a more filling bowl! (by extra, i mean, that if i got the BYO bowl, i could've chose *not* to get avocado and egg, which would have saved me $2. instead i would just get the free toppings.)

    This is not beef bulgogi

I had a terrible experience at The Thinking Cup at Boston Common…read more On my first visit, I ordered a lox bagel sandwich with cream cheese and smoked salmon. The lettuce looked old, the tomatoes weren't ripe, and although I asked for it to be cut in half, it wasn't. The quality was so poor that I ended up throwing it away. During that first visit, I asked one of the employees if he was the manager. He said he wasn't, but that he "should be." A few days later, I decided to give them another chance. The cashier was pleasant, so I tipped--but the experience quickly went downhill. I ended up speaking with the same employee who was there during my first visit, working behind the counter. He was a male in his mid-to-late 20s with facial hair and said his name was "Jack," although based on his rude behavior, I have no reason to believe that was his real name. After speaking with him, I now understand exactly why he isn't--and shouldn't be--the manager. When I explained my previous experience, he responded, "I really don't care." I was shocked. He repeated it multiple times, was rude, snapped at another employee, and refused to provide any manager or corporate contact information. At that point, I lost my appetite. After leaving the establishment, I gave the sandwich away and fed the lemon bread to the pigeons. The only bright spot was the cashier and another female employee, who were both polite and professional. Even as I was leaving, they kindly said, "Thank you, have a nice day," and seemed sincere. Unfortunately, one person's behavior completely ruined the experience. I will not be returning and would not recommend this location.

Since it was beautiful outside, this looked like the right spot! They also had a poster highlighting their Protein functional bowl, so I knew my order. As I walked in, the staff member at the counter was on her Bluetooth headphones and having a full conversation with a friend while simultaneously trying to take down someone's order. It was confusing to everyone involved and took some time. Same when I ordered, and it looked like another friend had come in and joined her behind the counter to chat (didn't see any sign of this person working there, but I may be wrong). Oh well, a bit of an awkward ordering process is not a big deal. The bowl itself was actually really tasty. It was a bit sweet for my taste, but it was large and satiating. I'd definitely recommend! Quick note that if you are needing the bathroom, I'd wait until your next stop. It was one pretty dirty stall and left me wondering if I should have eaten there... Overall, a good product, but the service and cleanliness of the facility left something to be desired.

She was so excited when she found Cafe Bonjour because they had several gluten-free options on the menu. We took an Uber there right after we landed and were able to walk right in and get a table when they opened, which worked out perfectly because the place started to fill up! It's a cute little spot with plenty of seating inside, and they also had a nice outdoor parklet that would be great in good weather. We asked to sit at the bar so we could watch the cooks in action, which was really fun. The menu had all the classic breakfast favorites like eggs and French toast, along with some lunch options like hamburgers and chicken wraps. The staff was very friendly and attentive. My wife ordered the gluten-free eggs benedict and absolutely loved it. I had the Bonjour omelet, and it was delicious. However, it's close to Boston Common and the public garden so there's things to do to while you wait. The owner and staff are super nice and friendly. They're cognizant that people wait a long time to eat at their establishment and treat you with kindness when you're inside. It is very cramped and the tables are close together, but the rustic feeling makes it a great place to catch up with 1 or 2 friends. There's a wide variety of breakfast/brunch items, so there's something on the menu for everyone. The kitchen also is good about substitutions. Additionally, the portions are reasonable for the price, especially for the area. Most entrees come with a salad, which was a fun surprise. I got the Signature Scramble and liked the variety in the dish. The eggs did have caramelized onions, which I picked out, but there was a good amount of sauce and flavor on the plate. This place has been on my Boston brunch bucket list, so I'm glad that I've gone. I'd recommend this place to people who appreciate a good meal, but wouldn't take people who are impatient or claustrophobic.
