This place is a huge step-up from Cava or any of those other "bowl" restaurants Downtown Boston. I've tried just about everything on the menu and the Pork Belly bowl is my favorite, they give good portions. The acia bowl is really good, but a little too pricey for the portion. The appetizers were all good, but way overpriced compared to buying them at the restaurants up the street in Chinatown, so I avoid buying apps here. The customer service is always excellent here which is why I've become a frequent visitor. They also have a rewards program which keeps you coming back for more. Don't waste your money at Cava, come to Lotus Test Kitchen instead and get more food for your money that taste way better! read more

We grabbed food from here while visiting Boston since a lot of the places had already closed for the evening. We just needed something fast that we could just grab fast after a long drive up and visit to the wonder museum for the evening. This place was the perfect place. Just wish we had alittle more time. We wanted to try out the bowls they had but they ran out of the rice as it was 20 min before closing. They had noodles for the bowls but with a 15 minute wait. So we didn't bother. The place was small but more of a pickup and eat at home place. But we just pulled up a seat at the bar style table and ate fast. The service was just ok and if you wanted to you can watch them cook your meal. We ordered the 4 different kinds of meats for the Bao Bao to try them all out. The Bao Bao Teriyaki Chicken & Steak -Spicy Korean BBQ Pork Belly -Bulgogi Beef - had a kick and so good. I ordered pickup from Lotus Test Kitchen on GrubHub. It's pretty conveniently located downtown, not too far from my office, so big win. I don't have too much to say in terms of service, since I just grabbed my food to go, but I was pleased that it was ready on time. The interior seemed pretty clean, decent for a casual spot. In terms of food, I thought the Spicy Korean BBQ Beef Bowl and Bao Bao were both solid, but nothing out of this world. The bun itself was a bit denser than I'd prefer. When I came home I found out that they shorted me on several bowls (well, probably all of them, but a few stood out in particular): For example, the Tereyaki Beef bowls had almost no beef, it was literally 1 small spoonful of shreded beef fibers spread out over an insane amount of rice. The good: 1) food was tasty and portions are generous with the bowl. Can't go wrong with any of the meats or sauces. The rice, noodles and salad were all great options too. 2) drinks were tasty! I tried the passion fruit, dragon berry, and watermelon smoothie (disclaimer with this one later) The bad: 1) Parking is near impossible around this area, so if you're picking up I would recommend walking or you could try double parking on one side of the street. 2) The Baos only had a few slivers of meat, not worth it - I would get the bowls instead. The buns were fluffy and warm, but not freshly made. 3) my watermelon smoothie had grinded plastic bits. I'm not sure how they got in there but initially I thought they were seeds, so I ate them. But after finishing 75% of my smoothie I spit out the hard pieces and they were in fact plastic. I called and was able to get a refund but plastic in my smoothie... really? They're carcinogenic. I got the chicken teriyaki with noodles, unagi bowl with white rice, and spicy pork bun. The chicken teriyaki bowl was delicious! The chicken was super flavorful, the noodles were chewy. The ratio of topping to noodles was off though - I had enough noodles to last another meal. Getting noodles is the move if you want a super filling bowl for a nice price. The unagi was so yummy and tender. I was so impressed. The avocado in the unagi bowl, however, was simultaneously very hard and had brown spots already. I was very confused. Next time I'll just buy my own avocado to eat with the rice bowl. Spicy pork bao bun was...okay. I don't like their buns and probably won't get it again. I mean this as a compliment, but the food here reminds me of a VERY elevated mall food experience. I've had the spicy Korean BBQ pork bowl boxed lunch from here about 2-3 times now and I have still not gotten tired of it. The bbq pork is amazing! It's tender and it's cut into the most perfect bite sized pieces with the perfect grill to it. The gochujang sauce is a key player in this bowl, as it marinates not only the meat but also gives the noodles a bit more flavor. I also really like the fresh and crunchy contrast that the other toppings provide. I think for the price you pay, it's also a good portion size. Typically, leftover food from takeout doesn't do great when heating it up the next day but this is far from the truth when it comes to Lotus test kitchen. I heated it up on a pan and all the flavors were enhanced, with the noodles and chicken getting a glazy texture and flavor to it. It literally tasted like the weirdly tender thick cuts of meat you find in Beef & Broccoli at any old Chinese takeout place. And it was sweet (again, not in any way remotely tasting like Bulgogi sauce or kBBQ), they threw some weird sriracha mayo-looking sauce on top, even though I remember specifically requesting the Gochujang sauce. It was also a weird mix of throwing all these random veggies + condiments in the rice bowl that you would never find in Korean food - it's not even remotely close to Bibimbap. It was very inauthentic and I can't recommend it. There was a like a mayo kale cabbage slaw, corn, kimchi, mung bean sprouts, I can't remember what random hodge podge. The sliced radish tasted like it was about spoiled. The other weird part is they have it set up like Chipotle for the condiments which looks like it was just sitting out all day and then there's a separate guy that cooked the meat to order on a flat top grill, but I didn't watch them doing this. read more

It's so hard to find that checks off quality, quantity, healthiness, taste AND cost yet here exists! You get to choose either rice or noodle for your carbs, some marinated meat, tofu or fish for protein, and they come with variety of veggies. They all come in their amazing dressing. Food is made fresh at the moment you order it!:) I always feel so welcomed whenever I walk in. Every staff has been so kind. Very tiny place but great concept. They sell rice bowls, boba drinks, and açaí bowls. It's located in an alley on Chauncey. I stumbled upon it going to my hotel Hyatt. I'm not into the whole macadamia nuts in the açaí bowl but the rest were really good. Not overly sweet at all. I also got a dragons kiss with dragon fruit. So refreshing with cut sugar level.
