Three Flavors Jumbo Shrimp, Pineapple Fried Rice, Duck Shu Shee
    May L.

This place is walking distance and before dining in I had only gotten takeout so I was happy to experience sitting inside for a meal. For takeout I would usually get the curry puffs, chicken wings, and drunken noodles with chicken or duck--ALL amazing, so I decided to try different items this time. First, the green papaya salad was delicious, I was so close to drinking the dressing once I got to the bottom of the bowl. It's moderately sized, good enough to split as a first course. I also ordered the crispy chive cakes, 10/10 obsessed. They're so crispy on the outside and warm and kind of soft on the inside and they come with a sweet dipping sauce--I would eat these again and again. For entrees I ordered the pineapple fried rice, no protein just veggies, three flavors jumbo shrimp, and the incredibly crispy duck shu shee. Lastly, for dessert I got the crispy cheesecake. It's basically a deep fried cheesecake with a dollop of whipped cream, cute! The food is fantastic, I love finding local gems and there was one man running the show and taking tables. He was super attentive, even taking my used napkin out of my hand and bringing me a fresh one, oh my! The place is quiet, you can hear Stevie wonder gently pumping through the restaurant and it's nicely decorated inside and outside. It's BYOB but you can enjoy soft drinks and teas here as well.

We saw this restaurant listed as the best Thai restaurant in NJ, so we came for a birthday lunch. Service by Maritza was excellent. But I wouldn't say this was the best Thai restaurant in NJ... The food was ok. I would have rated this 3.5 if the system let us. Thai Iced Tea with Lychee and with Guava - they were good just a bit too sweet Appetizer Platter: Curry Puff; Dumplings; Spring Roll; Fritter & Chicken Sate - they were just ok Dumplings and Calamari - again, just ok Duck Shu Shee - now this is where they shined, the duck was crispy, and the sauce was delicious! Basil Duck - meh, not very flavorful... Basil Beef - meh Chicken Fried Rice - I didn't try this, but the fam member who ordered it said it didn't have much flavor Would I come back, maybe if I was in the area to give them a 2nd chance.

Place is super cute, there's an outside seating area & indoor. unfortunately no parking we had friends coming looking for an hour on a Saturday. The waiter was nice but he forgot everything. Had to ask for Plates for our "shareable food" that wasn't really shareable, we had to ask for refills multiple times, n no water for the table like most places offer. The soda glass was dirty, I was there for my boyfriend's birthday and it was good. I just figured they'd be more prepared. They also never brought the cake out and they were closing we still got it out n shared with the friends . Cool spot just lots of hiccups. Giving them a 4 cuz my man knows the owner but truthfully I would have given them a 3 star. Over all they were still very nice people and fold was okay.

I love this place ! I always get the peanut salmon, I try my best to order something else, but I can't ! I'm hooked amazing desserts and apps! it's byob ! service is great and it's perfect vibe for date night or girls dinner ** update**2 years later and I still can't get enough of the peanut salmon!! The place has been updated, looks beautiful AND they are opening the back patio soon!

    Pad thai lunch special

Covid review : They have a nice patio outside for outdoor dining. This has a rent and multiple tables. It's so nice and beautifully decorated! They no longer do lunch specials if you are eating at the establishment. They only do lunch specials for take out. The Tom yum shrimp soup was good this time around, but not spicy. It also seemed to be more clear. There seemed to be an inconsistency here. The spicy thai basil fried rice with tofu and veggies is a must get. This is my favorite dish I've had here so far. By far superior to the pad thai and curries I've had. However, it wasn't spicy at all. Very odd since my previous dishes were spicy as hell. The drunken noodles with veggies are phenomenal also. There is so much flavor here! Another 2nd favorite.

Spicy vegetable pad Thai with Shrimp

Local spot and have been several times. It's always slaps for me and my GF. BYOB with a liquor and wine store across the street. Got take a vegetable Pad Thai, no tofu, mushrooms or eggs...one spicy. It was excellent. Love this spot.

Just not getting any of those fresh complex flavors we're used to from other Thai places. I need like, a whole lime to squeeze over this thing. My wife's chicken in her pad Thai tastes like leftovers from yesterday. Asked for spicy, but es no spicy... lol the sauce on the side is like insanely salty... For $15 each, yeah it was absolutely disappointing. Spring rolls had no flavor as well, ($7 for those so that's another thing we'll never financially recover from)

    Spring Rolls

Food was basic, kind of dry. Spring rolls lacked flavor, curry puffs didn't have enough salt. Service was bad. Cleanliness 7/10 (dishes were not cleaned fully) My first time coming here was over the summer with my mother. We were celebrating her and I let her pick the place. She chose this specific restaurant because it's her favorite - ofcourse she brings everyone here! So I left it alone. Tonight she goes & leaves in TEARS. Why? While she was complaining about the chicken she ordered being too chewy (as I said earlier the food is very mediocre) and the waiter or maybe even manager (?) immediately dismissed her complaint and YELLS "I know you! You come here all the time for free food!" This is my mother's FAVORITE restaurant. She's brought me here, friends, dates, etc. whatever the case may be - the food gets paid for, directly benefiting the business. How dare this person have such a valuable regular customer walk out in tears. Usually I don't go out my way to speak down on a business, coming from a family of businesses. But this was disgusting.

My friend lives in the area and suggested Lotus Thai for dinner. NJ is ahead of NY and currently shows indoor dining but we sat outside in the cute patio since the weather was nice. The first thing that stood out was the super warm friendly service, we could tell the servers were happy even through the mask. This place is BYOB and there's a liquor store conveniently across the street. We ordered the appetizer sampler and Thai mussels in spicy sauce, fried chicken wings, and fried rice. The mussels were so delicious, it came with a side of paratha Flatbread. The spicy sauce was so delicious that I ended up dipping the paratha and some of the appetizers into the sauce since it was just soo good! The chicken wings were so crispy yet juicy! We really enjoyed all of the food and great service. The prices were extremely reasonable considering the quality of the food.

THE NOT SO GOOD ---------------------------- - See Mixed. MIXED THOUGHTS --------------------------- = Most of the food was unfortunately very blah. ---- Beef Pad See Ew had a strange bamboo flavor with every bite. Wife didn't notice it much, but I definitely did. ---- Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken was relatively plain-ish. I had to put some of the pineapple curry we ordered on it. ++++ Pineapple Curry with Chicken was the one big positive as the curry was very flavorful. ++++ Duck Salad was solid too, but it was basically a little bit of duck served with a ordinary lettuce salad. ==== Thai Iced Tea was what it was. Could have used a slightly large serving of it though. ---- Service was up and down throughout. The waiter, who also was doing everything else at the register, was pretty blah and wasn't overly friendly, however, he wasn't terribly unpleasant either. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = It was clear that a majority of their business is takeout as the bell kept ringing whenever an order came in.

Following several errands I entered Sala for lunch, table for one please. I did not wait for an eternity for a table or to be served. I was certainty lured by lavish high praise from Yelpers but I decided to give it the o' college. The tables are closely next to seat neighbor patrons where I was beside a heterosexual couple who were all giddy holding hands and eternally doomscrolling on their respective phones. The tables are separated by a transparent partition fends a fake privacy sense. Pad Kee Mao with shrimp $20.00 Mild spicy as it is certainly not for the faint hearted who can intake spicy foods as the fried flat Chow Fun noodles were solid and sufficient for quantity. This entrée is my default to order. It was served somewhat piping hot. I choose to add shrimp as my choice of protein to be included in this entree. There were abundant onions. However, there were very minimal basil leaves and the bell peppers were stump stems as vegetables. The fried flat Chow Fun flat broad noodles is the main ingredient of this entree as the leading role which were flavorful. I truly enjoyed this entree as it is prepared in the traditional way. I did not particularly care for the bits of scrambled egg as I regard it as irrelevant. The shrimp, sadly, appears overcooked for too chewy and heavy with mash texture. I usually do not intake spicy foods as it is not my cup of tea, but I am open to intake and immerse in ethnic food cuisines and cultural foods. Immediately, minutes later my stomach highly disagreed with this mild spicy food and visited the restroom facility. I did not finish this entrée as I fear my stomach will further disagree. Thai iced tea $6.00 The only salvation for the mild heat spicy index of my mouth was the Thai ice tea because it contains milk. I've searched for ways to cool one's mouth for eating spicy food which drinking milk, eating chocolate and drinking alcohol are effective methods - NOT water. Cold water is distributed to battle the excessive heat and July 2026 NYC humidity. I am utterly dismayed that food is still a victim of stagflation for Thai ice tea extortionate priced $6.00! Oh! I wished I had carried Altoids breath mints which gets the job of clearing the effects of spicy food mouth. This entrée ate my fill and sustained my hunger pangs for the whole evening. It was served chilled with very minimal ice in a pineapple shape glass. Customer service is average. One of my waitress appeared new and in training as she was very visible to be befuddled when I requested for chopsticks. I almost always do not consume Asian food with a fork as a cultural penchant. However, the underlying truth for reason of this female waitress's wayward behavior is the L.E.P. Limited English Proficiency. I did obtain my sales receipt as a keepsake. I did obtain a business card and takeout menu. Complimentary mints are distributed at the end of the meal. There are two restroom facility. The upper floor is not ADA accessible as there is one short flight of stairs. The entrance is hidden behind an outdoor dinning shed which is actually a hostess stand and can be easily missed. The dinning room decorum is very lavish with wood carpentry paneling walls and including ceiling, small chandeliers, ornate gold beaded wall painting frames, and wall to wall dark wood carpentry paneling in the bathroom. The bathroom door handle is a ornate duck object. There is a Dyson hand dryer. Sala Thai Restaurant is located at 307 Amsterdam Avenue (at West 74th and 75th Streets) in Upper West Side, Manhattan, NYC. It is very accessible via MTA NYC Transit 1, 2, 3 local trains at 72nd Street subway station and B, C local trains at 72nd Street Central Park West followed by a reasonable walk.

I first ordered the crispy spring rolls, which were very good. For my main I had the Massaman Curry. Now folks, this is my favorite curry of all time -- actually one of my favorite foods of all time -- and while it's common in LA where I used to live, it's not as common where I live now, in the Bay Area. And the restaurants that do carry it usually do not make it right and it's not very good. I am used to Massaman in the traditional preparation where it's more like a beef stew made with chunks of beef and needs to cook overnight. When done right it is the most aromatic curry ever -- it's almost like an aphrodisiac! -- and the beef comes out oh so tender. Usually if places have this curry but then offer a choice of protein, then it generally is not cooked properly, and that is actually how they prepare it at SaiTong. But because of such great reviews I decided to take a chance and try it. Well, let me tell you, it was definitely not the norm...it was absolutely delicious! I had it with chicken (they serve breast as default), and the chicken soaked up the curry really nicely. I also asked for there to be no onions, which I think alters the flavor of a curry too much. It does include the traditional potatoes and peanuts, and the potatoes were fine and cut into nice little chunks, the peanuts actually were thrown in raw.. what I think is the more traditional way which is to actually burn the peanuts a little bit, but that's okay, it didn't take down the dish any. Their brown rice is of the very dark kind, which I like, and goes so well with the curry. Service was wonderful from the bartender but was also provided by the rest of the staff and everyone was so nice. I left there feeling so satisfied, and cannot wait to go back and try some other dishes.
