Delicious noodles! Came after a broadway show. Really great service and amazing Pad See Ew!

I'm a Thai foodie from California and I really loved SaiTong! The restaurant was busy and I was by myself so I was happy to sit at the bar, and was attended to by the most sweet bartender ever. Very polite, professional and attentive. I first ordered the crispy spring rolls, which were very good. For my main I had the Massaman Curry. Now folks, this is my favorite curry of all time -- actually one of my favorite foods of all time -- and while it's common in LA where I used to live, it's not as common where I live now, in the Bay Area. And the restaurants that do carry it usually do not make it right and it's not very good. I am used to Massaman in the traditional preparation where it's more like a beef stew made with chunks of beef and needs to cook overnight. When done right it is the most aromatic curry ever -- it's almost like an aphrodisiac! -- and the beef comes out oh so tender. Usually if places have this curry but then offer a choice of protein, then it generally is not cooked properly, and that is actually how they prepare it at SaiTong. But because of such great reviews I decided to take a chance and try it. Well, let me tell you, it was definitely not the norm...it was absolutely delicious! I had it with chicken (they serve breast as default), and the chicken soaked up the curry really nicely. I also asked for there to be no onions, which I think alters the flavor of a curry too much. It does include the traditional potatoes and peanuts, and the potatoes were fine and cut into nice little chunks, the peanuts actually were thrown in raw.. what I think is the more traditional way which is to actually burn the peanuts a little bit, but that's okay, it didn't take down the dish any. Their brown rice is of the very dark kind, which I like, and goes so well with the curry. Service was wonderful from the bartender but was also provided by the rest of the staff and everyone was so nice. I left there feeling so satisfied, and cannot wait to go back and try some other dishes. read more

My only complaint about SaiTong was my fault -- I wasn't hungry enough to really eat my fill of the delicious food there! I tried the pad thai, which was excellent -- but ended up ordering the ribs for my meal because I was craving protein. WELL. Ribs were outstanding. But there also was about 90 pounds of them! Definitely need to be shared between guests. Others ordered a fish dish -- I'm allergic, so all seafood is pretty lost on me. But they raved about it. I plan to fast for a day or two and go back. :) read more

Came here for dinner. The restaurant was crowded on a weeknight but we were seated right away. The decor is chic and the service is excellent. Shoutout to our awesome server Ploy who took good pics of the group! I started with a thai mango surprise to drink, then got the massaman curry and drunken noodle for mains. Thai Mango Surprise- This has a vodka base. You get mango puree, sticky rice syrup, coconut milk and coconut cream. It's like a drink version of the dessert, very tasty! Massaman Curry- We got this with beef which was cooked perfectly tender. The sauce is sweet with a hint of spice and made creamy with coconut milk. Potatoes and peanuts add bulk to the dish. Drunken Noodle- We got this with chicken and they gave us a generous amount of it. The sauce is savory and spicy, packed with flavor. The noodles are soft and chewy. I ordered a lunch Tofu Pad kee mao for takeout. Ordering was quick and it was ready within ten minutes. It comes in a nice bento style box with the noodles, a small salad with peanut dressing and two spring rolls. The noodles were soft and well seasoned. If you get tofu you can pick between fried of soft. The salad and spring rolls were standard. A nice quick place to stop by for lunch. read more

Walked in on a Wednesday night after watching a Broadway show in the area and was seated right away. Not all midtown restaurants stay open past 10, and I was relieved to find their kitchen going strong at that hour, as well as their dining space, which was full. Turned out it was for good reason because their food was delicious. My friend and I were hoping to eat at a restaurant nearby specializing in crab, but they closed much earlier. Fortunately for us, SaiTong's menu had plenty of crab on it, and we decided to double up and make each of our entree's a crab one. The black spaghetti crab curry and crab curry noodles advertised themselves as being very different dishes in both presentation and ingredients but ended up tasting kind of similar. One was topped with deep fried crab and used a different type of noodle than the other, but the sauces were so similar. This is not to say that they didn't taste good, but I would've preferred more variance. I'm glad we got an order of papaya salad to cut the richness of the other dishes, and I also appreciated it had a nice level of heat in it. Our servers were really friendly without being overbearing, and let us linger for a bit even after we paid the bill, as it was their last seating for the evening. There are so many excellent Thai restaurants in the city and I'd put SaiTong firmly in the category of perfectly solid spots to get your Thai fix, with some special dishes on the chef's menu worth checking out. read more

It is often so difficult to find a good restaurant in the theater district, but I am so glad to have found SaiTong Thai. I came here with a group of six on a weeknight with no reservations. We were seated immediately on the second floor. The restaurant had a chic, sophisticated interior, with black and gold accents and wood furniture. A large spiral fringe chandelier hung from the ceiling. While the environment indeed was upscale, the food still retained that cozy, home-cooked element known to Thai cuisine. I split the short rib curry and pork cheek with my husband. The curry was creamy with a kick of heat. The beef pull-apart tender. I'm salivating just thinking about it now. The pork cheek was delicious as well. It had the taste and texture of pork belly, which paired splendidly with the sweet and tangy fish sauce it came with. Others from my party ordered the masaman curry and a type of noodle (I think it was the pad kee mao?), and they all approved of their dishes. The drinks were wonderful as well, so distinctly Thai and inventive. I highly doubt you'll find anything here that isn't excellent. read more

Cons: @ The bok choy was too SALTY! @ The pineapple fried rice was also overly SALTY! When we mentioned this to the waitress, she responded that the dishes were "meant to be salty and should be eaten with rice." As Southeast Asians, we understand how Thai dishes balance soy sauce, fish sauce, and seasoning, but this felt genuinely over-salted rather than well-seasoned. This feedback is meant to be constructive. It would be great if staff could acknowledge customer concerns more openly instead of sounding defensive, as hospitality is not only about good food but also about how feedback is handled!! We had a wonderful meal and experience here. It is well worth going back to. We had a 5:00 reservation. We got there a few minutes early but the restaurant was not opened yet. It opened a bit after 5. A large crowd gathered waiting to get in. In talking to some of the other people waiting, they told us how much that they enjoyed the restaurant and why they continue to return. We started with one of the specials the Pork and shrimp Sit Mai. it was good but neither of us would order it again. For main dishes, I had the Duck Fruit Curry. it was excellent. Duck skin was nice and crispy and their was no fat below the skin. The curry was very flavorful. My wife had the pad thai with chicken. Very tasty and not too spicy. We decided to try the Tuay Tong for dessert. Very flavorful pudding. We will definitely return when in the theater district. read more

This was a solid Thai spot. The interior is gorgeous, full of light woods and spacious. I sat at the bar, so it was quick seating, and also my food came in like 10 minutes, so no challenges there. SaiTong Thai is one of my favorite spots in the city. Conveniently located in the Theater District, SaiTong offers something different for visitors. Their dishes are perfect for a family-style feast and they have such high-quality cocktail drinks. I love how they utilized the space and there is so much attention to detail with the decor. The service is 20/10. The bartenders are so fun and the waiters knew exactly what to recommend based on people's preferences. My favorite items definitely were the thai crackers and yala beef steak. The famous Thai dessert cocktail transported me back to Thailand. Such a great find in the area! read more

Braved the snow storm to check this place out. I was craving Thai and this place was not too far from the hotel and close to theaters. I didn't mind getting seated at the bar. I got to watch the bartender making various delicious looking cocktails. The delicious smell from the kitchen as I sat and looked through the menu made my mouth water! Under Chef's Signature Dishes, I was debating among Black Spaghetti Pad Cha, Black Spaghetti Crab Curry, or Beef Steak with Tallow Fried Rice. The server suggested the Beef Steak with Tallow Fried Rice because it's newly added to their menu (I don't see it on their online menu). I'm glad I followed her suggestion because IT WAS SO GOOD! Thai-style beef fried rice cooked with beef tallow, served with grilled steak. The beef was cooked perfectly, medium rare and was so flavorful. The rice is full of flavor too! It comes with a dipping sauce and drizzling it on the meat just added another level of yumminess! Staff were very friendly. Bartender carried a friendly conversation but also let me enjoy my dinner in peace. The server checked on me every so often which was nice. In the end, I was telling the manager how much I liked their decoration, he invited me to look upstairs as well. Their upstairs is nicely decorated as well and has its own bar. I love trying out Thai restaurants and my experience at SaiTong reinforces my predilection! I sat as a solo diner at the bar for the restaurant week menu, and all the savory dishes were impressive. The two appetizers of the wings and the pork puff (a great recommendation from the bartender) were outstanding. The branzino coated in tuneric and spices was also amazing, and there was SO MUCH FOOD offered! The only slight downside was that it was not mango season, and the restaurant replaces mangos with ice cream in their dessert for the time being. Cute spot. Although there were no available reservations under resy I called and they were able to get my friend and I one. Food came out pretty quickly. The crab fried rice was delicious. Found SaiTong Thai on Yelp and made a reservation by calling (albeit a bit late...so we could only get a 6:15 meal time...but we had a show starting at 7:30 nearby). We arrived a bit early and asked if we could sit at the bar and have dinner (instead of waiting to get started at 6:15). Accommodated immediately. Ordered drinks and chicken satay. Then we ordered the green curry and crab fried rice (I had read that was one of the most popular dishes). The satay was one of the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked with strong lemongrass flavor...SO good. The green curry reminded us of our trip to Thailand-spot on with some kick. Crab fried rice was decadent and buttery. Service was great and I enjoyed my special cocktail to start. (XiJoy: Cointreau, sesame oil, lime juice, simple Syrup, orange bitters). The location is excellent--conveniently close to the theater--and the staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming. The food is elevated, high-end Thai cuisine. This was our first time at SaiTong Thai, and it was the perfect pre-show dinner. Conveniently located in the theater district, the restaurant has only been open for about a year but you wouldn't know it from the level of service, high-quality food, and trendy ambience. We came on a busy Friday night with a reservation, but we were running late. Fortunately, they were able to accommodate us and push our table by about 30 minutes. One person in our party is disabled, and the staff was kind enough to ask if stairs were okay, which I thought was very thoughtful and considerate. We were seated immediately. The menu was impressive. Thai classics on the last page, but also a number of seasonal dishes and chef's specialties that really caught my eye. There's a strong seafood presence too: whole fish, soft shell crab, lobster, and other proteins you don't often see on most Thai menus. The cuisine definitely feels elevated. Our waitress was pleasant and helpful when I asked for recommendations. The food arrived quickly, and we were able to enjoy our meal without feeling rushed before the show. I ordered the fried branzino with garlic, which was delightful. It was light, aromatic, and full of flavor. My husband had the drunken noodles, moderately spicy and nicely sauced and seasoned. We ordered the Short Ribs Chu Chee ($38) and the Crabmeat Wonton Noodle Soup ($25). The ribs were very flavorful and fell off the bone. We love trying different Thai restaurants around the United States. This location in New York is close to Times Square. We got the right at their evening opening hour of 5 PM. We got seated right away and their staff is very friendly. The food for us was pretty standard and just OK. Nothing spectacular for us, but tasted good. We were there visiting a friend and unfortunately they do have a time limit if you finish your food as they needed the table and we were asked to leave. Each time I have dined here I pay very close attention to customer service. That is a very important part of me returning to an establishment. Besides the fact the food must be good, the restaurant must be clean and inviting. I have to feel respected as a patron. On my last visit, I noticed that there were only three parties on the main floor. We sat down second and were closest to the kitchen. While the third party came in and were seated in the middle of the restaurant. As you would expect we ordered first so our food began to come out first. However, we noticed that as more orders came out the kitchen appeared to combine food orders. What happened next was strange and personally offputting. The waiter came out with a whole tray of food and I saw our order on the tray as he passed our table, which I remind you is closest to the kitchen. He went to serve the third party that was seated after us first and then came to our table to give us our food. Now why would you do that? I don't want to wonder as it may be because the guests looked more like him but I will leave it at that and just not return. This place is also not cheap. So its their loss not mine for acting shady and making it appear that my money is not just as green and valuable as other patrons. read more

Today I stopped off here after a hike. Pork jowl- tender, juicy, well seasoned. But came off as way too greasy/oily, not sure if it is from all the fat or what. Papaya salad, decent spice, tasted fresh, stronger fish sauce taste but not too much. Good flavor. Pad gra prao/basil chicken: while it tasted fresh, it tasted a little too salty and no spice at all. Price: waaaayyyy too high. Not worth it. Summary: While the presentation is fine, the food is just ok, if not more on the oily side, there's other places in hell's kitchen better and cheaper. I've been here a few times solo and enjoyed all my visits. Sat at the bar a few times and the service was very friendly and efficient. The food is seasoned well and full of flavor. Last visit I started with a curry pancake - like an empanada with I believe ground chicken, scallions, onions and curry powder. Served with the ubiquitous cucumber and onion tangy dipping sauce. It was nicely done. For my main I had a basil stir fry with chicken which was good as well. Portions are a healthy size. I'll be back for sure. After work out with my besties! SaiTong is located in the theater district and was nice and cozy for an evening out with the girls after a long day at work. Host was very friendly and seated us promptly upon arrival for our 5:30p reservations. We came during happy hour and the girls ordered their cocktails and I ordered my mocktail since I don't drink. Food was very yummy and portions were nice size. Spice level was perfect for me. Our apps were fried calamari and pancakes both with a delicious dipping sauce. My girls loved the turmeric branzino and the garlic lime branzino. I had the black spaghetti crab curry which hit the spot for me!! Will definitely visit this place again. They were very nice and allowed us to chat for about an hour after paying our bill I think they knew we were catching up on life. Super sweet of them any other place would have asked us to leave. The place looks very modern and has plenty of seating. They seem to have a 2nd floor, but didnt look like it was being used. We ordered a few dishes: crab fried rice, spring rolls, a lobster pad thai, short ribs and a couple of other dishes. Everything was pretty good, service was attentive and friendly. I stopped in here before a show and everything was perfect. They have a great lunch special that also comes with a salad and vegetable spring roll. We decided to have the green curry which was full of flavor and had a nice spice level. We decided to try a new dish- "Black Spaghetti Pad Cha," which was lovely mixed seafood with black squid ink spaghetti with garlic, chili, basil and was a lovely tasting dish.
