Very good moist satay, tasty Penang curry, great pad see ew, and decent pad Thai. Today we ordered, and the food tasted and looked totally different. Pad Thai was dry, with over cooked and broken chunks of noodle. Bland curry, and tough chicken satay. I even double checked that we ordered from the right place. Maybe different cooks, different days. But I probably won't order from here again unfortunately. read more

It has been almost an exact year since my last delivery order from Roi Siam, and I really wanted to give it another try, since I had had mixed feelings about another local Thai spot recently. The order took about an hour to arrive, which was longer than predicted, so that was irritating, but the food was great! We started by sharing the Curry Puff appetizer, which came with 5 of the fried dumplings! It was a very generous amount, and the stuffing of curried chicken, potatoes, onions and carrots was phenomenal! Their curry sauce was so aromatic, sweet, and flavorful. The puffs were deep-fried, though, so, naturally, there was some grease. For my entree, I ordered the Pad See Ew with Chicken. I thought their version was very well-executed. It was more savory than it was sweet, and the broccoli was fresh and crisp. I will say that the chicken was rather dry, but, otherwise, it was good a meal. I heard positive reviews about the Drunken Noodles with Chicken as well, though specifying "Hot" as the spice level meant it came with a ton of visible chilis, so beware that they are very serious about their heat! (Pad See Ew: 50% | F) - This dish has too many flaws. First, for some reason the Pad See Ew is sour, when the recipe should not call for any type of acidity. There's so much tofu that it overpowers the dish and the noodles are incredibly lumpy displaying a poor technique in cooking -- far worse than if I were to teach someone with no prior experience myself. My friend and I ordered takeout from here and although the food was delicious, my meal was WAYYY too greasy. The tofu in my drunken noodles was very bland and spongey, it would've been nice to have smaller pieces with more flavor and a less spongy texture. My friend had some sort of curry rice & a coconut curry soup which he really enjoyed but the rice also looked greasy. I loved this food! A lot of Thai restaurants offer a similar menu. Some places replicate the basics and are just average, while others take it to the next level. This restaurant is definitely the latter! The veggie spring rolls came with five in an order. This dish rarely disappoints and it was tasty. I also got the panang curry and pad thai with tofu. The curry came with a generous portion of rice. Both entrees were great. I ordered the curry medium spicy and the pad thai extra spicy and the level of heat was perfect. The jungle curry is a standout; at the risk of being deemed useless, unfunny and uncool, I confess that I have no details on the particulars of the spices except to say there are many. I went for "medium" which was no joke. Texture is closer to soup than sauce. I had a doordash credit expiring so we decided to order for delivery from here one night. It looked pretty promising since it had 4.5 stars on Yelp. Unfortunately, the food was not good. We started with the Chicken Dumplings. The description mentioned 'Steamed stuffed chicken, served with soy ginger sauce'. I think it is not unreasonable for us to believe there were steamed dumplings. Instead, they were fried to the point where there dumpling skin was super dry, and it was super oily overall. I also had a tom yum soup since I was in a soupy mood. It was way too spicy, and salty. That's pretty much all I tasted. For the mains, I had the pad see ew. The noodles were not bad. But I love flat rice noodles so it would take a lot for me not to like it. However, the chicken I had ordered it with was so overcooked and dry. My fiancé had the Kao Pad Roi Fried Rice (Thai style fried rice with egg, chicken, pork, Chinese sausage, scallions, onions and tomatoes). I didn't find any pork in there but the chicken was the same situation - dry AF. It was also pretty bland overall. They could have taken some salt from the tom yum and added it here instead. Was craving Thai food and did a quick search on Yelp to find what was nearby. This was the only restaurant open on New Year's Day after 6pm. We were greeted very warmly and service was great. The vegetable rolls were the best I've ever had and honestly I could go back just for those. The food took a long while and they didn't have the heat on so it was very cold and finally they gave us a portable heater for our table and we were able to enjoy the meal in comfort. The 'authentic Thai cuisine' subtext under the name, is legit. I'm a Thai food snob. Probably my favorite cuisine. And to be honest, there are a lot of just average Thai restaurants out there, ones that do enough to be acceptable. They meet the bar but don't venture much further Rio Siam is one that takes their cuisine seriously and executes on the authentic aspect. When I asked for spicy, they made it spicy. Good food! It's a a typical hole in the wall place with great food and massive portions. I got their khai soi with veggie duck. The duck was .. interesting. Ive had fake duck before and it taste strange, I wasn't a huge fan. I think if it was tofu, it would've been a lot better. I ordered for delivery via Seamless--got the spring rolls, summer rolls, chicken Pad Thai and Thai iced tea. The spring rolls were nice and crispy (there was a hole in the top of the container, I think to let the steam escape, which probably saved the crispiness)! The summer rolls were not what I was expecting (it's a cold roll that is clear--you know the one that looks like plastic wrap, don't know why I'm blanking on the name but you can see in the pic) and they are huge, but tasty. The noodles were cooked well, but other than that, there was just some broccoli, a bit of egg, and not much beef. The dish was not as flavorful as I would have liked. The restaurant does not have any air conditioning, which was not good for a hot day like today. The decor is very simple. The restaurant is not in the nicest neighborhood. However, the lady who served us was super friendly. The service speed was pretty good. We were the only ones in the restaurant on a Sunday night, which seemed a little odd. Overall, Roi Siam has average Thai food with good service. I ordered this for delivery and that was probably the best part it. The delivery was efficient and nothing was missing. I ordered the pad see ew which barely had any flavor. I could barely get through half of it. I tried to add some hot sauce which helped a little but still a bit bland. I also ordered the papaya salad at the spiciest level but when I saw it, I already knew I might be disappointed. It wasn't spicy at all. Granted my friends say nothing is spicy to me but it didn't even have a tiny kick. The last food item I got were the spring rolls - they were okay, nothing to rave about. I also tried the Thai iced tea which wasn't bad so it wasn't a total lost cause :). Had the opportunity to try this restaurant, and it was well worth it. On this visit, opted for the chicken satay and issan sausage appetizers, with a chicken Khao Soi entree. The satay had a light curry flavor with an amazing peanut dipping sauce. The sausage came with ginger, onions, and peanuts. While good on its own, would highly recommend dipping it in the peanut sauce for an extra boost. The entree was the highlight of the meal. Crispy noodles on top of a light curry noodle soup with chicken, pickles and beansprouts. A squeeze of lime gives a little sour kick to a flavorful dish. Starving on a Sunday night I searched for the best Thai spot in the area that was open. I cam and found a cozy and minimalist atmosphere with ample table seating. The dishes range between $11-$15. We had the green curry ($14) with generous servings of shrimp and the chicken pad kee maw ($11). All was tasty and the server was a very pleasant older thai gentlemen with perhaps his wife cooking. I must admit that the taste of the dishes was not very strong, it was borderline bland but not flavorless. However, If feel that is a sign that it was not heavily seasoned and a little more healthy. So if you are into super robust flavor just sprinkle a dash of salt perhaps because that is not always a bad thing, it depends on your taste. Good food, nice service, and reasonable price. We hauled here from Downtown Jersey City and it was worth the parking hassle. There are so many horrible Thai restaurants I've come across in Jersey City. We started with the crispy tofu which was crispy but made with medium firmness tofu (it was a little watery in the middle). Tofu had a spongy like texture and melted in our mouths. The peanut sauce included is really yummy submerged in tofu. Tom Kha soup was my favorite and stuck out. Roi Siam nailed the creamy broth. Mushrooms in soup were really delicious. Pad Thai was a 4/5. Overall decent Thai food. Their curry is very good - rich, flavorful, with a kick. The drunken noodle is fine - I saw some other reviews about it being flavorless and I half agree. The noodles are very dense and stick together, and I added some of my own sauce to spice things up because it was a bit dry. I would not pay extra for the crispy duck it's very dry. The staff is so busy cooking to go food and taking orders (phone rings non stop) that it really isn't designed for dining in experience. The ladies were sweet but two items in the order never came. What happened?!! Was there a change of kitchen or management?? The last time I ordered. the pho was top notch: fresh veggies, immaculate broth, and all the accoutrement. Today?? Nooo, just no--the broth was just salty, super oily and very cloudy. Where's the gorgeous broth we had last time? So clear, so flavorful, so refreshing!Why was the accompanying bag of pho veggies just a bag of chopped onions? Where's my lime slice? the cilantro?
