I stumbled upon this spot after another restaurant I wanted to try was having kitchen issues. As someone who loves Thai food, I decided to give it a try! While it wasn't the best Thai food I've ever had, it was pretty decent, flavorful, and affordable. We visited during lunch and took advantage of their three-course lunch special, which ranges from $18-$24. I had the house salad and soup, although I originally ordered chive pancakes and received chicken and shrimp dumplings instead. For my entrée, I ordered the Kao Moo Dang with roasted pork, crispy pork belly, Chinese sausage, rice, cucumber, and half a boiled egg. I loved the sweetness of the sauce, and the portion was surprisingly generous with plenty of meat for a lunch special. The service was good overall, although I felt a little rushed toward the end, possibly because they were transitioning from lunch to dinner. I really enjoyed the old-school, traditional Asian-inspired décor, especially the beautiful woodwork and carvings throughout the restaurant. My two friends also enjoyed their meals, and our total came to about $75 for three people, including tax and gratuity. They also have cocktails! If I'm in the area again, I'd definitely consider returning, especially for their affordable lunch special.
The restaurant is stunning in appearance, delicious in flavors, and welcoming service. Pang was an amazing server and kept us very happy.
Food is decent. I loved that both soups we ordered were packed with mushrooms. I love mushrooms! The crepe dumplings were unique but were overpowered by a sweet date flavor. The curry puffs were the best appetizer though they looked different from other peoples pictures. The dough was very flaky and the filling had a great flavor! Lots of dishes were spicy like the tom yum soup and mango salad. The lychee Thai tea was unique and I devoured the two lychees on top. It was very sweet and I didn't finish the whole drink. Packed restaurant with timed seating. But plenty of time to eat and catch up with friends. Not many bathrooms and there were long lines.
Sala Thai has been on my Yelp "places to go" bookmark for indefinitely. Now I can finally remove this business to be check-off. Following several errands I entered Sala for lunch, table for one please. I did not wait for an eternity for a table or to be served. I was certainty lured by lavish high praise from Yelpers but I decided to give it the o' college. The tables are closely next to seat neighbor patrons where I was beside a heterosexual couple who were all giddy holding hands and eternally doomscrolling on their respective phones. The tables are separated by a transparent partition fends a fake privacy sense. Pad Kee Mao with shrimp $20.00 Mild spicy as it is certainly not for the faint hearted who can intake spicy foods as the fried flat Chow Fun noodles were solid and sufficient for quantity. The noodles were not abundant for quantity as I desired. This entrée is my default to order. It was served somewhat piping hot. I choose to add shrimp as my choice of protein to be included in this entree. There were abundant onions. However, there were very minimal basil leaves and the bell peppers were stump stems as vegetables. The fried flat Chow Fun flat broad noodles is the main ingredient of this entree as the leading role which were flavorful. I truly enjoyed this entree as it is prepared in the traditional way. I did not particularly care for the bits of scrambled egg as I regard it as irrelevant. The shrimp, sadly, appears overcooked for too chewy and heavy with mash texture. I usually do not intake spicy foods as it is not my cup of tea, but I am open to intake and immerse in ethnic food cuisines and cultural foods. Immediately, minutes later my stomach highly disagreed with this mild spicy food and visited the restroom facility. I did not finish this entrée as I fear my stomach will further disagree. Dismay. Thai iced tea $6.00 The only salvation for the mild heat spicy index of my mouth was the Thai ice tea because it contains milk. I've searched for ways to cool one's mouth for eating spicy food which drinking milk, eating chocolate and drinking alcohol are effective methods - NOT water. Cold water is distributed to battle the excessive heat and July 2026 NYC humidity. I am utterly dismayed that food is still a victim of stagflation for Thai ice tea extortionate priced $6.00! Oh! I wished I had carried Altoids breath mints which gets the job of clearing the effects of spicy food mouth. This entrée ate my fill and sustained my hunger pangs for the whole evening. It was served chilled with very minimal ice in a pineapple shape glass. Customer service is average. One of my waitress appeared new and in training as she was very visible to be befuddled when I requested for chopsticks. I almost always do not consume Asian food with a fork as a cultural penchant. However, the underlying truth for reason of this female waitress's wayward behavior is the L.E.P. Limited English Proficiency. I did obtain my sales receipt as a keepsake. I did obtain a business card and takeout menu. Complimentary mints are distributed at the end of the meal. There are two restroom facility. The upper floor is not ADA accessible as there is one short flight of stairs. The entrance is hidden behind an outdoor dinning shed which is actually a hostess stand and can be easily missed. The dinning room decorum is very lavish with wood carpentry paneling walls and including ceiling, small chandeliers, ornate gold beaded wall painting frames, and wall to wall dark wood carpentry paneling in the bathroom. The bathroom door handle is a ornate duck object. There is a Dyson hand dryer. Sala Thai Restaurant is located at 307 Amsterdam Avenue (at West 74th and 75th Streets) in Upper West Side, Manhattan, NYC. It is very accessible via MTA NYC Transit 1, 2, 3 local trains at 72nd Street subway station and B, C local trains at 72nd Street Central Park West followed by a reasonable walk.
I would absolutely recommend a reservation, I came here on a Wednesday night, and the place was packed and there was a huge waiting outside. We were sat right away without an issue. We ordered a passionfruit margarita and some sort of mocktail that tasted light a piña colada, no complaints and everything was good. For appetizers, we got the Tom, Yum chicken, wings, and the fried pork strips with tamarin sauce. The pork chops blew me away and I could eat five more of these dishes. The Tom chicken wings had a nice cake to it, but I would've liked the chicken to be a bit more crispy opposed to it being soft, it's just something about soft chicken skin that gets to me. For entrées, I got a short rib curry with roti, my other guest got the pad khra pow ground chicken dish and the baa mi moo dang poo noodle dish . We all loved it. Didnt have enough space for dessert but i would love to come back. Our waiter was super kind and attentive and made sure my water glass was refilled for the 6th time lol, i was so thirsty! Highly recommended
Last-minute Yelp search after visiting the American Natural History Museum. The place was busy, considering lunchtime. The service was welcoming and friendly. The staff is Thai, which makes the place even more authentic. Crepe Dumplings - the crepe was thin, but not a big fan of the fillings Massamun Nuer Roti - the slow-cooked beef melts in the mouth, but I do wish there were more roti Chilean Sea Bass - the sea bass was huge, with a perfect balance with the coconut milk Mango Sunrise - strong mango flavor, I finished drinking before the main entree
Quaint spot with reliable service and consistently good food. It's one of those places you can count on. We started with the Thai Veggie Dumplings ($12) -- packed with cabbage, carrot, shiitake mushrooms, jicama, and chives, and the sweet soy sauce really brought it all together. I had the Pad Thai ($15) with glass noodles, bean sprouts, scallions, red onion, tofu, egg, and peanuts -- flavorful, fresh, and just the right portion. The only downside? We happened to be seated next to a couple who were so loud my friend and I could barely hear each other. Not the restaurant's fault, but it definitely took away from the otherwise lovely experience. We'll definitely be back -- just hoping for quieter neighbors next time!
Such a cute place! The decor and vibes was very cozy and staff were so friendly. My sister I ordered the duck curry and pad see eww. It came with appetizers from the lunch special. My favorite was the duck curry, the flavors...OMG. it was perfect for a cold day, eating with rice just warmed everything inside of me. It was not spicy just packed with authentic Thai flavors. You get a big portion for the lunch specials too, was able to take some home. Definitely coming back for the curry. The noodles were cooked perfectly with the extra pan fried taste from the wok. Chewy and covered in flavor. We did order the curry puffs, but they were a disappointment. The dough was not cooked all the way and the filling was gummy. Reminds me of cooking shows warning their team not to puree the potatoes. I think if it was cooked properly it would've been really good. They were chunky puffs which I like. Overall, really good, just need a minor tweek on those puffers.
As you enter the restaurant it's cramped. They have a full bar as you walk in and it's tight. The dining area space has as many tables as you could fit and they have acquired and small area for more tables from the coffee shop next door. If you get seated in the coffee shop area be aware that you will get a draft from the door opening and closing in the coffee shop. Now for the food review. The food was very tasty and the waiting staff were attentive to the tables. I ordered the red curry and I can't remember the names of my appetizer, other dish, and desert. Sometimes truly I just point at the menu and say bring it and I will eat it. Well the pointing and eating turned out great. Everything was delicious! Make a reservation and enjoy the meal.
We had a great time here. The vibe is warm and relaxed, and the service was prompt. We all enjoyed our food - I loved my tom yum soup and my friends loved the pad see ew and the chicken dumplings. The food also came out quickly. I highly recommend a reservation as it was absolutely packed on a weeknight, but you can be in and out pretty fast once you are seated. Will definitely return!
I highly recommend this exquisite place to dine. Known for their delicious cuisine, desserts, service and ambiance; my large party of 8 was catered to. Every dish that was ordered, was masterfully prepared and served. The spicy cuisine was meticulously cooked and served to perfection. The cocktails had the right buzz with one round, and was thrilled to feel by all. I'm joyously happy, that I chose wisely for my family and I; to dine at Sala Thai restaurant that is known for beautiful decor as well.
price - $65 including tax and tip food - 5/5 service - 5/5 ambiance - 5/5 i got the green and panang curry lunch special deal for $17 which was SUPERRRR CHEAP AND AFFORDABLE! the curry wasnt think and was sweet as well! it was so good im literally still thinking about it. the soft shell crab mango salad was also really good. you can really taste the crispiness and the sweetness of the mango mixed salad! overall the food was so yummy, i highly recommend! the service was amazing as all the waiters would be so attentive. the ambiance inside was so nice too! i felt like i walked into thailand as i entered the restaurant! definitely check this place out!!!
Great thai spot to eat at if you are around the neighborhood. This place gets very busy at night time so there is at least a minimum of 30 minute wait. Time flew and they msged us when the table was ready. The place may look small on the outside but once you go inside there is such a large space inside. We were at the coffee shop area to the Right which was very cozy and good for parties of 2 people. The staff was cordial and quick. There was a ton of different thai foods on the menu. We chose 3 items because we were not that hungry: 1) their special crab bisque, 2) beef pad see ew, 3) pork pad krow pow. Their special crab bisque was absolutely delicious! It comes w 2 pieces of crispy rice and it was have the soup an extra nice crunchy texture. The soup had a good amount of juicy crab meat & was sour, a little spicy, salty, sour and sweet. It was a party in my mouth! Highly recommended! Beef pad see ew was delicious at first but the aftera few more bites it became a bit sweet for me. The beef felt a bit overcooked. Pork pad krow pow - I was hoping for the minced pork version but it was not bad. Flavors were nice - spicy, sour, sweet, umami. There was a party in my mouth as well eating this. The rice complemented the dish very well. Just wish the pork was a bit more softer. Great thai food here!
Must try: Pad Thai Bolan and Tropical Affair Cocktail! Why: Beautiful presentation with the noodles wrapped in an eggs nest but more importantly it was delicious! Good amount of shrimp and a large prawn on top. Packed with veggies like sprouts and scallions. Washed it down with a refreshing Tropical Affair Cocktail, which has rum, Prosecco, and passion fruit. My friend got the Red Curry and she loved it. We thought the rice shaped in a cone was cute. Notes: Cute restaurant with many tables for small and large parties. Great place for date night. Clean bathrooms too. Staff were welcoming, friendly, attentive, and helpful. Our waitress gave us great recommendations. Would def come back to try more dishes and cocktails! Overall take: fine if you live in the neighborhood, but not somewhere I'd go out of my way for. Flavors were good across the board, but texture was consistently off - noodles were way too mushy, roti wasn't flaky at all, and the curry was just a miss. Drinks were ok. There's always a wait here, so make a reservation if you're planning to come. Space is a little crowded but not insanely so. Vibes are decent. read more

Holy crap! This place deserves all of its praises. This pad kee mao was fantastic! The portions are amazing, and the flavor is incomparable to any other Thai spot in New York. Will absolutely order this again! read more
Had a 9 pm reservation and the place was packed. The table was ready and we were seated immediately. Dinners was excellent. They make the best Pad Krapraw - Thai Basil Chicken. The flavors are so good. Be prepared medium spicy is super hot... I would say 8.5 out of 10 so use that as a guide. Watch out those little red peppers. The Panang Curry is really good here too. Love the cool uptown vibe. Staff is always friendly and the food is consistent. Whether you come for lunch or dinner the food is always good. read more

Went here again because it's that good! this time got curry puffs, massaman curry roti, and short rib beef panang. service is phenomenal i didn't have reservation but luckily they had an extra seat available food is fantastic there's a reason why it has a near flawless review on google maps and over 3k submissions. just go here or be square read more
Rating: 6/10 Date Last Visited: 8/1/2025 We ordered the Thai Crepe Dumplings ($15), Green Curry ($20), and Pad Se-Ew ($19). The crepe dumplings were a good appetizer, it was unique and a good combination of meat and wrapper but was a very small portion for $15. The green curry tasted standard, what you would expect from a standard Thai restaurant. The pad se-ew was decent too, nothing special. For the taste of the dishes, I don't think the prices were justified. The service was slow too and the waiter was not very attentive to us. Overall, the food is just standard for Thai, not bad but not delicious either. It's a nice place to go to spend time with someone, but I wouldn't recommend it for the taste or price. read more

Sala Thai is good every single time!! There's usually a wait so reservations are highly recommended but once you're seated service is quick. The restaurant is deceptively large inside with lots of different seating options but not stroller friendly! *This review is based on a carry out order but I've had it in person loads of times too I ordered the crepe dumpling (new to me), the pra ram with chicken, and the chocolate lava cake (also new to me). The dumplings were SO good! Honestly reminded me of the pra ram but in a noodle. The pra ram is solid every time and so filling (but the bok choy bed seems unnecessary lol). Sala Thai is a great restaurant in the UWS. SO and I regularly order delivery from here and stopped in for a quick dinner when we were nearby. A couple drinks, one app and one entree made for a nice dinner. Bottom line, the food and service here are excellent. read more

This review is for weekend lunch. I was nervous this place may be a bit too touristy so close to the park, but was very pleasantly surprised. If you're looking for Thai in the area, this is a good option. I walked in on a Saturday afternoon for 2 people and was seated immediately. Restaurant seems fairly open and big for NYC standards - could be good for larger groups. Service is friendly and efficient. I ordered the below for 2 people and it was the perfect amount of food. Definitely recommend sharing. -Thai Crepe Dumplings: comes with 5. Not life changing, maybe more pretty than anything. But I still enjoyed. Despite other reviews, I didn't think it was too sweet, though there is sweetness to it. -Fried Soft Shell Crab Salad: this was delicious. Comes on a bed of fresh shredded mango. -Pad Se Ew: got it with beef. Exactly what you expect and want pad se ew to taste like. -Panang Curry: got it with chicken. I was on the hunt for a solid date night spot with my husband--something special but not too pricey--and this place, with its glowing reviews, seemed like the perfect fit. Spoiler: it totally was. Food: 5/5 The moment we walked in, the ambience transported us--it felt like we'd stepped into another country. Warm lighting, cozy seating, and rich decor really set the tone. Plus at ~$150 with tip, yes please! We love asking our server what they personally enjoy from the menu, and their recommendations did not disappoint. We ended up with a duck hot pot, pandan leaf chicken dumplings, and a fried fish entrée--all incredibly flavorful and beautifully plated. For drinks, I highly recommend the yuzu lemonade--it was bright, tart, and honestly one of the best virgin drinks I've had in a while. The ambiance is really lovely with classic Thai decor. The servers , runners , busters are all very attentive. We ordered the pad see ew and pad thai bolan. Unfortunately it just wasn't for me. Those are usually my go to dishes when trying a new Thai spot. But the intense shrimp-forward flavor that didn't quite work for me, and the pad see ew just was not to my taste. That said, l'd still be open to coming back and trying other dishes! The cocktails look promising but we ended up just grabbing thai teas. I feel like there's more to try on the menu so l will for sure be back. read more
A great place to get excellent Thai food for good prices (especially during the lunch special). I had their chicken green curry with soup and a spring roll and was plenty full by the end. The medium spice was already more than enough heat for me. The curry was well seasoned and good for my liking. Overall, a very solid Thai spot. read more

Yes, but only on weekdays. I order them thru UberEats. And i think they're on Seamless as well, depending if U live in UWS area
What's the best dish here?
I love the golden puffs as an appetizer. And although my go to dish is the pineapple fried rice, their green curry is exceptional.
Do they do anything for a birthday dinner? Like a dessert or something?
They did have desserts so if you call ahead they might be able to accommodate you.
Are there gluten free options?
All the curry, spicy salad and some appertizers (shown in a menu). They can make classic Pad Thai gluten free too. Basically plenty of choices. Just inform your server and there can take care of that.
