Today I introduced Viccino's Turkey Panino to Avon Township in Round Lake Park. They had never had it, or even never heard of Viccino. When I tell you to watch the joy come across the faces of some that I watched take a bite, and hear the exclamation of "OMG, that's delicious" was priceless. To say they throughly enjoyed it would be an understatement! Even with the almost 1 hr drive they LOVED it! I have said it more than once we need a store in or near Round Lake IL. I've been coming to Viccinos for years and one of the many things I can say about them are that they are consistent. They have several locations across the Chicagoland area and they always deliver on their food. I normally order their panino. It is pretty much a sandwich that is circular in shape. They have a variety of deli style paninos as well as eggplant/chicken Parmigianino, a variety of cheeses and several others. Their pizza is really good as well. Since this is mostly a carryout restaurant, they have a few tables indoor and some tables for dining outside. It isn't that loud indoor because there isn't much room for anyone to gather. read more

4 stars. It's a little bit on the pricey side for me. $11 for two slices and a drink is inflation at its finest. But, the slices were tasty. The cheese is premium and tastes delicious. The thin crust pepperoni was super oily... like blot with a napkin or risk messing up your shirt kinda oily. Both styles have a fantastic crust. Nice and crisp, but with a slight chew. Ask them to heat the pan pizza a bit longer to ensure it's warmed all the way through. Bonus points for having Cherry Coke and homemade chocolate chip cookies. This location has a nice little outdoor seating area and is close by the Dairy Bar which is just super convenient. The pizza here is consistently good depending on if you are looking for thin crust or pan pizza. Toppings are ample and every pizza we have enjoyed from this location has been super hot and freshly made. A hidden gem is the Paesan, perfect ratio of chicken to bbq sauce, onions and cilantro. As a North Shore native that moved out of state, I miss having classic thin-crust pizza - and this is one of my favorite places when I'm home. It's nothing extravagant, but it's just good thin crust. Greasy, without being a mess - cheesy and delicious. It's a great pickup/delivery pizza instead of a typical Dominoes. Called in and after the Viccinos greeting I stated an order for "PickUp" the boy on the phone asked if I wanted delivery, no I said PU them ordered 1 XL thin with 1 topping and 1 M stuffed with 2 toppings. I was then asked by the boy what crust did I want, I told you already Listen to people boy. Now the boys issue I can deal with since it's his parents & managements fault. Now we have two major issues your promise times are flat out lies EVERY TIME 35 minutes but was ready at 52 minutes this is an issue for me the second was when we got home we had to eat someone else's stuffed pizza because we got one with green peppers I have NEVER ordered green peppers from your joint. Calling back and waiting another 52 minutes was not an option. Now I don't mind getting ripped for $61 for 1 Med & 1 XL but you are in need of help in your process and I hope you can fix. read more

Got takeout while visiting with family. They live walking distance so it was super convenient. We've stopped in before for a few slices and they were great also! We ordered a deep dish spinach as well as a thin crust sausage and they were both spectacular pizzas. I myself am a fan of thin crust (which is sac religious for a Chicagoan) but whatever. The deep dish had the perfect amount of spinach and cheese that strung out nice and long you pulled it apart with the perfect amount of sauce. The thin was amazing and I could have eaten the whole thing if not for the three others that I had to share it with. Highly recommend both. I tried takeout deep dish and thin crust pizza at my good friend's home. Deep dish was half spinach & mushroom, half green pepper & mushroom. The thin crust was half sausage and half pepperoni. The deep dish was solid overall. I'm a fan of the crushed tomatoes and sauce on the top, with less cheese. It had a nice tomato tartness with the savory cheese and earthy mushroom flavor. The bottom crust was a tad thick for my tastes, a little chalky but substantial enough for the pie. The edge crust was thinner and worked well with the pizza. This is not a stuffed pizza like Giordano's, this is a good thing for me. If I want excess, I just sandwich too slices together. The thin crust was cut into squares which I prefer for sharing in bigger groups. The sausage was tasty and has a good crisp crust. Thicker than a NYC pie, it could support the toppings. The pepperoni was a bit too oily so I dabbed it with a napkin, still flavorful. Cheese was cooked to a nice bubbly color. No comments on the service or location, but the food was quite good. Terrible customer service today!!!! I ordered a pick up order of 2 salads and a panino. I was told that the bread for the panini was being baked so it'd be a 30 min wait. I agreed. I came and picked up my order no problem but found that instead of focaccia bread with my salad that I got a damn sub roll instead. My panini had focaccia so why could my salads not also include it as stated? I called them and the guy at the register who rung me up just said- oh sorry we didn't get to finish baking it til now. I'm thinking yes I'm well aware of this...that's why I waited 30 minutes for the bread in the panino yet you couldn't add it to the salad that was in the same order? I love the focaccia and told him that's part of the reason why I enjoy the salad. His response? "O really? um..well you can get one of our focaccia bread starters for $3.00...". HELL NO! It should come with my damn salad like it says on the menu! And if it wasn't going to come with my salad, you should have damn well told me there was going to be a substitution. No offers to help rectify his wrong doing. Shame on the guy who run the front desk and the phones today - he is a terrible representation of an otherwise great Northshore business that I've ordered from before and never had any issues. I've been to this location occasionally -- usually we order from the Pfingsten loc. Both are good! Andy at this location is always very nice and friendly. I can't understand why some people come to Yelp to post a very negative review after one poor experience, sometimes an experience based only on one sour-faced employee, or one botched order or delivery! A small biz cannot always hire PERFECT human beings (as if they existed), so customers should take that into consideration. For myself I've always felt the employees of both Viccinos were very nice and easy to get along with. I guess it's true that people tend to post mainly when they have a bad experience, and not post if the restaurant just "meets expectations". That's people for you. But all things considered, there's a reason this place rates a solid 4 stars (average for restaurants is 3 1/2 stars on yelp, I've noticed). I always order thin crust large pizzas, or sometimes slices, and I've also had some of their sandwiches (meatball, tuna) and their wings. ALL of these almost always were delicious --I can't recall a single time I did not enjoy their cooking, so I'm a bit mystified by some posts here that express disappointment! I don't know what the folks are expecting. The pizza here meets requirement that a thin crust be firm and thin, and not bready or doughy. Also (extra bonus points) you can reheat it later in a frying pan and it still tastes excellent (even firmer actually). Which is NOT true, IME, for most other pizzas I've sampled. My only minor gripe is of course -- price. These pizzas are a bit on the pricey side although Viccinos is about on par with other pizza joints. read more

I have an announcement to make! My daily, non-stop checking in on Foursquare has finally yielded another notable perk, and it is $2 slices of pizza at Viccino's! My life is complete. Whereas you can get personal pizzas at Pizano's and Pequod's, Viccino's serves up XXL sized pizza by the slice. For frame of reference, it barely fits on a standard sized paper plate. For another frame of reference, I'm pretty sure the slices are bigger than my face. You can get sausage, spinach, or cheese in pan style, and there are thin crust options too.
