Here's what you need to know: I was nervous about the service here given the reviews before by my favorite Yelp reviewers but we received absolutely outstanding service from Chris and Sooki. UHMAZING CALZONE (NYC style with fresh ricotta). Kids loved the sausage NYC style pizza too. Ambiance is fun and shabby, but super clean. Loved our experience here and the food and the service.

loved this place, ambience was old timey and they had coke in - glass bottle. Was concerned upon entering that the restaurant was empty of customers but the guy who served us was friendly and the food came out quick. i had the pasta pizza which was quirky but very yummy. i recommend, especially if you want a cheap classic eat.

New York style pizza here in Chicago -- yes, it's almost blasphemy! -- would never survive here if it wasn't better than New York Pizza in New York just to stick it to them! To show you how good this place is, New York Slices has been around at least 10 years. The decor here is fun, with a New York City mural painted on one wall, a floor which almost feels like (but not dirty like) a New York street or subway platform, and the counter and drink coolers which really feel like you're at a New York carry-out pizzeria. There is a small dining area with stainless metal chairs and tables, and always good music playing inside New York slices. Customer service staff is young but friendly and polite and attentive. Street parking out front and the street is plentiful. Currently, during covid 19, there is no dine-in service, the same as most everywhere. The boys inside made pick up very easy because they were all ready to go with my order and receipt when I walked in. Before covid 19, the joint was the same, just with people at the tables -- healthy New York volume of chatter and music, and quick customer service. Tonight I ordered only a 10-inch, personal-sized, brick-oven, New York thin pizza with ham, bacon and pineapple. The toppings were plentiful and tasty, although I would have enjoyed bigger pieces of bacon. The crust was slightly crunchy on the outside, and airy and a tiny bit chewy inside, exactly as I hoped for, and there was not the slightest hint of saltiness or preservatives commonly found in national chain, mass-produced pizzerias. A New York pizzeria -- especially one with the chutzpah to use the Big Apple name in our City of Big Shoulders -- would not survive in Chicago's thick pizza environment if it wasn't damn good. These guys are damn good. What's more, you're getting the New York pizzeria environment at New York Slices WITHOUT THE NEW YORK PRICES! When you look at the menu, you'll realize that all prices are very reasonable for the high quality you are getting in comparison to everything else in our market. On my next visit, I'll probably grab one of their meatball sandwiches or a calzone, and take home some of their Homer's Ice Cream!

He did find a table and during the course of our meal there were non-stop arrivals with a few heading straight to the small bar so I'm thinking perhaps it has a strong flow of regular customers. The service was efficient and the dining room has a cozy bistro feel to it. The menu is seasonal. Nothing was calling out to me so I went with the burger and fries. Both were good. Overall we are glad we gave Pixca a try. Before we go again we'll make a reservation and check the menu to see what the current options are.

We arrived very early at a random time, probably right after opening. Everyone was so nice and service was great. The table started with the cornbread, moist and warm. Not as sweet as I personally like (I can't help it I'm southern) but delicious nonetheless. The eggplant hummus wasn't that great to me, loved the bread it came with but I think I would prefer typical chickpea hummus instead. Brussels were so good, probably the favorite thing I tried. For my entree I had a kale salad with added salmon. I liked the crunch and the light vinaigrette. My husband had the seafood risotto which was slightly undercooked. All and all a positive experience and I'd definitely go back if I was in the area.

It was such a thoughtful touch that made our celebration feel extra special. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful with such a romantic atmosphere. It was the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. Our server, Nathan, was exceptional. He was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening. The manager also stopped by to check on us, which really showed how much they care about their guests. I've dined at much more expensive restaurants before, and I've honestly never experienced this level of hospitality. The food was incredible 10/10! Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The portions were generous, and I couldn't even finish my meal because there was so much delicious food. Overall, this was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. From the outstanding service to the beautiful ambiance and amazing food, everything exceeded our expectations. Thank you to Nathan and the entire team for making our anniversary so memorable. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience!

We came for an evening with friends and decided to take advantage of the Sunday "per la famiglia…read more(serves four)" special when we saw the menu. What looked like a generous offer of comfort food at a reasonable price, at a lovely Italian restaurant, was actually a gimmick worthy of Ebenezer Scrooge. Dinner started with a tasty chopped salad that would have been a reasonable entree for one or enough to share as an appetizer for two. It was a large spoonful each for four. The four garlic knots that accompanied the salad were each about 2x2x2 inches, and when we asked for a refill of both the salad and bread we were told "that's all you get." The spaghetti came with 2 meatballs in a portion size that looked like it was enough for an entree for only 1 person. We waited a moment and when no more came realized we were screwed. Later, seeing our disappointment, the waiter was kind enough to secretly get 2 more meatballs out of the kitchen for us to pretend there were portions for each person at the table. Had they been serving Italian tapas, maybe we could have pretended it was a fair approach. The 16 inch cheese pizza was good but nothing special and the tiramisu provided 4 small pieces a little larger than the garlic knots mentioned earlier when cut into squares. I don't know what kind of "famiglia" Salvatore "Sal" Lo Cascio, the culinary director at Ballyhoo Hospitality, or Ryan O'Donnell, the CEO, have; but they probably don't eat very much. Perhaps they expect the famiglia of their guests to be a single parent with young children or a group of little persons. In short, the food tasted good, the dining room was lovely, the service was outstanding, and the portions and prices were a complete rip-off to the point that the place should be put out of business. With two iced teas, a glass of house wine, tax and a generous tip the bill came to well over $100 and this morning when checking the receipt for this review I found out that they charged us $8.00 for the extra meatballs which the waiter pretended were a secret, complimentary addition. Not very nice!

I ordered and paid for two small pizzas at the counter, and learned I had to go to bar for drinks. The same cashier came over to take my drink order, where I paid separately. In about 15 minutes, our pizzas were ready at the counter: One with only cheese, and the other with sausage. We immediately noticed the ruffled-edge crust, which looked more like a pie for dessert. We both took a bite of each pizza, and immediately disliked the cornmeal crust. It tasted to me like it was made from Jiffy corn muffin mix, with a cardboard-like hardness. My wife disliked it so much she barely ate one small piece of pizza. I liked their cheese and sauce, and especially liked the sausage. I managed to eat two pieces thinking I'll give it a chance, but hated that crust so much I couldn't eat a third piece. There are plenty of other items on their menu other than pizza, which are the only things we will consider for any future visit. The dining room is large with a dark, traditional wood decor. Parking is free in their own lot. Having no table service, other than cleaning tables, logically results in a tip and cost savings. Now that I know this is how Barnaby's operates, I am not down-voting them based on service.
