There's plenty of pizza around highland Park Illinois. Now and then I have to have New York Slices, one of the best pizzas around. Not the least bit greasy with a half chewy half very crisp crust. The pizza's always ready on time and whoever's at the counter is always courteous and a pleasure. The pricing is great as well. Do not sleep on the Grandma slice! I know you may be here for a New York style pepperoni or prefer tavern style, but for a great understated, garlicky, not overly cheesy piece of nostalgia, get a simple Grandma slice. It's not as thick as the Sicilian so the crust is crispy not crunchy. There's a nice layer of cheese topped with their tomato sauce that has a gentle sweetness. There are garlic cloves in there too despite no additional toppings. I would come back for this alone but they also have great deals and their regular New York slices are solid. New York style pizza here in Chicago -- yes, it's almost blasphemy! -- would never survive here if it wasn't better than New York Pizza in New York just to stick it to them! To show you how good this place is, New York Slices has been around at least 10 years. The decor here is fun, with a New York City mural painted on one wall, a floor which almost feels like (but not dirty like) a New York street or subway platform, and the counter and drink coolers which really feel like you're at a New York carry-out pizzeria. There is a small dining area with stainless metal chairs and tables, and always good music playing inside New York slices. Customer service staff is young but friendly and polite and attentive. Street parking out front and the street is plentiful. Currently, during covid 19, there is no dine-in service, the same as most everywhere. The boys inside made pick up very easy because they were all ready to go with my order and receipt when I walked in. Before covid 19, the joint was the same, just with people at the tables -- healthy New York volume of chatter and music, and quick customer service. Tonight I ordered only a 10-inch, personal-sized, brick-oven, New York thin pizza with ham, bacon and pineapple. The toppings were plentiful and tasty, although I would have enjoyed bigger pieces of bacon. The crust was slightly crunchy on the outside, and airy and a tiny bit chewy inside, exactly as I hoped for, and there was not the slightest hint of saltiness or preservatives commonly found in national chain, mass-produced pizzerias. A New York pizzeria -- especially one with the chutzpah to use the Big Apple name in our City of Big Shoulders -- would not survive in Chicago's thick pizza environment if it wasn't damn good. These guys are damn good. What's more, you're getting the New York pizzeria environment at New York Slices WITHOUT THE NEW YORK PRICES! When you look at the menu, you'll realize that all prices are very reasonable for the high quality you are getting in comparison to everything else in our market. On the plus side, the sausage pizza is pretty good. It's something I wish I had gotten two of instead of just one slice and the other items I ordered. On the negative side, their cheese fritters, which is sort of like part of a cheese filled breadstick, are very bland. Definitely not worth the money or stomach space. Also, I wasn't a fan of the chunks of onion in the sausage stromboli-like thing when all I was told is it contained sausage. If it contains onion as well, that's fine, but tell your customers that when they ask what's in it. I ended up tearing the thing open and picking out as much of the onion as I could, but of course the onion flavor had already seeped it's way into everything else. read more

We've got picky eaters in our house and everyone is in agreement that New York Slices makes a very tasty NY style pizza. We ordered a plain cheese, which was delicious, and a white pizza, which will be my personal go-to from now on, and also buffalo wings, which were awesome, but maybe not quite as buffalo-y as I prefer. The sauce is sweet and tangy, almost like a bar-b-q sauce, but not too spicy. Still, the wings are huge and fantastic. I had to update my review after taking a group of students here on a field trip. I saw online that New York Slices has a special on making your own pizza for $4.99. Adam helped us out and he was awesome with our students. He demonstrated and assisted them in kneading the dough. He made separate containers or each ingredient so the students couldn't complain that anyone got more. When the kids were done making the pizza they brought them into the kitchen to bake. Each pan is numbered to ensure students get the correct pizza. This also helped prevent any arguments. The pizza was delicious. The service was fantastic and Adam was generous enough to offer all the kids ice cream. They are super kid friendly. Service this great makes me want to go out of my way to be a repeat customer. read more

This was a fun experience!! I had JUST gotten back from New York the day before, having experienced only Lombardi's pizza. So I wanted a more authentic NY pizza experience. The boyfriend said that NY Slices is definitely more authentic. They didn't have a lot of choices when we went in, but there was a cheese pizza, a deluxe pizza, and some fritters! I can't fault a place for being out of pizza when there's a rush on slices because it's tasty. We ordered 2 slices of deluxe, I snagged the last piece of cheese, and 2 cheese fritters. Worth it!! Really liked the crust, and I really liked the sauce. The thing about this pizza is that it's not your Chicago pizza- it's not pie, it's slices. Which I learned is kind of a thing in New York, that it's about beautiful simplicity and ease of eating. I can appreciate that! One guy was workin' the oven in the back, and they could probably use more staff, but honestly for a smaller shop they were doing fine. More pizza came out before we left, so we got a pepperoni slice and a sausage slice, which wound up being just devoured when we got home. One of the beautiful things about New York Slices is that it doesn't give you bloated sadness like Chicago pie does, because it's just not as heavy of a pizza. And I am DEFINITELY okay about that! I never thought I'd say this, especially as a Chicago area native, but, I think I very well may prefer New York style to Chicago, and this is definitely a good go to for that change! As long as you don't have crazy expectations about the place, I would totally recommend. It definitely does cater more to a younger crowd, so if Karen and Becky want to have brunch and yell at managers, maybe sit this one out. If I could give it 0 stars I would. I'm 59 and it's the worst pizza I've ever eaten and my wife agrees. I don't know how they stay in business or why anyone would chose to go there more than once. The pizza doesn't even taste like pizza. It tastes like cardboard. It's dry, no herbs or spices, you would need a magnifying glass to find any sauce and the cheese tastes like it came out if a can. I keep coming back because the slices and prices are ok. It's also the only place around where you can get a single slice of pizza. Honestly, if you're not a teenage boy, you don't always get treated very well here. The last two times I've come I've been pregnant. This time, the girl with the pink hair (not tied back) and half of a shirt ( not sanitary) hair decided to take a teenage boys order who was in line behind me before mine. This matters if he's going to order the last slice of a pizza I want. When I worked at a pizza shop we were required to keep our hair tied back and be fully clothed. The time before this, I got here about 15 minutes before they opened. I was standing in front of the store checking the hours on my phone when the owner rudely asked if I needed help (not in a friendly tone). I explained I was just checking the hours on Google since they're not posted on the door and the door was locked. She snapped, no we're closed now. That time I left and went somewhere else. I'd still probably come back because it's the right sized lunch for me, and pizza is alright, but I hope to see customer service and clothing/sanitary requirements for food handlers improve. Side note- I've ordered take out and somehow it's not as good as just slices. Maybe it has to do with the reheat? NY Slice makes delicious thin crust pie! I ordered online for pick up and the food was ready right when I arrived. The pizza is just what you imagine when craving NY style 'za - thin, foldable slices fit for even the hungriest of Ninja Turtles! I also liked their home made balsamic dressing on the side salads. We order pizzas for shipping, the company processed our order online (accepting payment) - and the confirmation we received said shipping would be completed within 3 days. After 3 days we had to call the company 2x to inquire about our order. Instead of receiving a call back, we received an email back from Mark saying they made a mistake, shipping is no longer available, and they are refunding our money. Super un-cool, our son who was looking forward to celebrating his birthday with "New York style" pizza will not be. Love this HP staple for great NY style pizza. It is consistent and if you like NY style this is the place. They also have some really great daily specials which aren't available via the 3rd party providers like grubhub, doordash, etc. But I know Thursdays they have a deal for $10 for a large which we do often. 2 large definitely feed a family of 5, but we get a 3rd for leftovers. My kids love this place, we make a visit at least once a week. Great NY-inspired slices to fold and eat. Also some thicker Sicilian options, garlic knots, and a few other things you might find in the Big Apple. Great place to pick up a pie on the way home. The prices are really good in my opinion. My two little guys can almost polish off a large cheese by themselves, so it's good to save a few bucks when there is a chance I may not get to have any.
