First time at Lou's. I ordered from home for a pickup order. I arrived 10 mins early, so the hostesses told me to wait a bit. There were only three other customers at 11:45. Perhaps they'll get a big rush at noon? My pizza was ready right on time. I got a large Chicago classic, which had the butter crust base, a sausage disk which covered the entire pie, tons of mozzarella, tomato sauce and then the pepperoni that I added on the top. By the time I got home, it was still nice and hot, being a deep dish. Actually, once I got home I realized I'd never had a deep dish before. The pizza was cooked properly, with melted cheese, slightly charred pepperoni on top and a solid crust. Excellent pie but I realized that I wasn't a fan of deep dish. One of them (not the deep dish) was completely wrong, server rudely said I'll make you a new one (45 min?) or bring you a plate with the left out ingredients and you can put them on yourself. We came for happy hour and so glad we did. We sat in the bar at a table/booth. We ordered the meatballs, bruschetta, pepperoni pizza thin crust, fried mozzarella cubes all $5 ea. We expected smaller portions since everything was close to $11 ea on the menu. But you get full size portions for $5. Everything was hot, fresh and delicious. When a friend and colleague of mine comes to town for business, we typically take a work lunch at this location. From the delicious deep dish Chicago-style pizza to the lunch specials to the great service, I've been impressed with the pizza and the service at this Lou Malnati's location. The ambiance is also nice with a bar and a dining room. I have ordered in person before as well as taken pizza leftovers to go including frozen pizzas. I have also ordered food for pick-up. While the pick-up orders sometimes take longer than expected, I have been quite pleased with Lou Malnati's Pizzeria and this location in particular more often than not. This specific location also has coupons given out to ASU students and employees, which is always nice to have a discount. Worst Lou MALNATIS experience we ever had. We were there when they opened for lunch. There were literally 3 couples in the whole place and service was horrible. Laura was our server ...or at least she was supposed to be serving us. Our drinks went dry 1/2 way through the meal and she was nowhere. We finished eating and waited a long while for her to notice and bring the bill. Then she noticed our empty cups ... we ask for the drink to go but she said they don't do that. Our food was ok . We went a bit earlier not knowing if it would be busy at this location, and there was only 1 other couple there in the entire restaurant in around 4:15 pm on a Tuesday (so very quiet) but I could see it getting loud and busy as dinner came around. The fried ravioli was good, but the mini mozzarella bites were SO GOOD! Great cheese pull on them, and even better dipped in the marinara. The drinks were $5 as well, and they weren't basic drinks either. I got the twisted lemonade and the white sangria and both were sweet and perfect for a 105 degree day. I know they're known for their deep dish pizzas, but in the personal size, it was just a little too much crust, and did not hold up very well as left overs. But overall, a great deal for $5 for each item! We finally got over to eat at Lou Malnati's and it was worth the wait. Well, actually I should have come here sooner. We went in a little after noon and were greeted by a young lady that seated us and told us that our server would be right there to help us. We sat down and our server Laura came right over. Restaurant was a bit filled and I was really surprised how quickly she was there for our drink orders. First thing that she asked was, have we ever been to Lou Malnati's. We said no and then she went on to tell us a little about the restaurant. I felt like maybe she was part of the family as she was very educated on the place. Ok, so we gave our order for a salad first and drinks and a medium cheese deep dish pie. The restaurant is very nice inside [and outside as well] Very nice place. The drinks and salad came, and the salad was very fresh. We were told that the deep dish usually takes up to 30 minutes, but we were fine with that anyway. Iced Tea was very fresh, and refills were abundant as our server Laura was completely on top of things. As we finished our salad, Laura brought out the Pizza and put a slice on each of our plates and that was very nice. Pizza was unbelievable. I'm so glad that we got the medium so that we had some to bring home to eat later. I want to also note that Laura was awesome. She was so professional in her speaking and the way that she presented herself. The food was fantastic, and it will not take me another 10 years plus to find my way over there for a delicious pizza. Kept drinks filled and food moving definitely worth the experience and definitely a quality Chicago style slice. It was getting late and we were scrambling to find something to eat. We saw that Lou Malnati's was still open. We opted to take out because we didn't want to hold up the staff as the last customers. I had three choices to pick from. Two gluten free pizzas and a crustless pizza. I can have gluten free pizza in a lot of places but I have never seen a crustless pizza so I chose that one. It was a pizza that uses sausage for the crust and then tops it with sauce and cheese. My husband ordered a thin crust cheese pizza. Didn't understand what takes 40 minutes for two tiny pizzas. When we got back to the hotel and opened the boxes I was immediately disappointed. My hubby's pizza was really blah. It was like melted cheese on a piece of cardboard. Mine looked strange. It was wrapped in plastic because it had so much liquid pouring out of the sides. It was impossible to eat because they didn't give us any utensils. I didn't know to ask for it because I wasn't expecting anything so messy. It is a bowl made of sausage with a layer of cheese that is then covered with crushed tomatoes instead of pizza sauce. The cheese didn't have much flavor and is not adhered to the sausage because of all the liquid. There is no seasoning to the tomatoes just a light sprinkle of Parmesan cheese. The whole thing is just sitting in a pool of tomato juice. If I find myself in the same situation again I think I would just go to sleep early rather than go through this experience again. Not a huge fan of this place. I have visited this place four or five times hoping that whatever issues they had the time before they overcame. Unfortunately, they did not. Every time I come in there are tables that have not been cleaned and they don't get cleaned, at least not while we were there. The butter crust pizza always has a gritty texture in the dough. Half the time it's either overcooked or undercooked. The employees lack a lot in customer service and the managers are even worse. I have to say, the first time we had Lou Malnati's, I was not impressed. It was from the takeout only location in Gilbert. I felt was expensive and didn't seem to taste very good after cooking it at home. HOWEVER, we visited this location, at Tempe Marketplace, because it was our son's choice for dinner, and I'm glad he picked it. What a different experience! Been an avid fan of Lou Malnati's but this location is something else. Took my family here this past Sunday night and Mandee/ Mandi was our waitress. Our entire table felt neglected. Took forever to order and to get our drinks refilled. Definitely looked like she was more attentive to other tables than ours. We ordered the Deep Dish Lou, thin crust cheese and sausage, Caesar Salad, and the buff-a-lou bone in wings. The salad had an extreme amount of dressing, croutons were good. Wings were surprising good but a bit expensive. When the pizza came out and they cut into it, it just looked so greasy and unappetizing. Every single bite we took was just extremely messy. Service was fast and attentive. We were told it would take 30 minutes for pizza. The place was not busy when we walked in at 6:30pm. We liked that, as this way we could carry on conversations without raising our voices. Customers were spread out within the restaurant. My grandson ordered chicken wings but the rest of us ordered personal pan pizzas. I had the "Lou" special of spinach, mushrooms and tomatoes. I had water to drink. I ordered the crust extra crispy which was definitely the way to go because everything else about this pizza was a tad underwhelming. I ordered a large Chicago classic (deep dish, sausage, butter crust and add garlic). Pizza came out around 30min later. The server noticed that they forgot to put garlic on my pizza as she was serving my first slice. I asked for a replacement pizza and instead i got garlic powder to put on it. The sausage was also little sausage nuggets like little cesars. This is not how lou's makes sausage patties for the Chicago classic. The final issue was that the butter crust was paper thin on the sides. And the dough was undercooked on the bottom. I ate a slice then gave the rest to my co-workers. Nothing about this pizza is what Lou's is known for. This Tempe location does not do it correctly and isn't worth going to. The scottsdale location is authentic. read more

We're visiting Arizona for Spring Training, and since my husband is from Chicago, he suggested Lou Malnati's for dinner. As a deep-dish lover, I was excited--until this turned out to be the worst experience we've ever had at a Lou Malnati's. Service was painfully slow from the start. It took nearly 20 minutes just to get our drinks, and we only received them after following up with our server. We ordered wings as an appetizer and spaghetti for our toddler, specifically requesting the spaghetti to come out as soon as it was ready since she was hungry. Despite this, it took so long that I had to give her snacks while we waited. When we finally asked for an update, the spaghetti magically appeared, as if it had been sitting ready but forgotten. Then came the real disappointment: the pizza. After waiting over an hour, it arrived--cold and completely wrong. It genuinely felt like they had thrown a frozen pizza in the oven and only half-heated it. No cheese pull, no gooey deliciousness--just a sad excuse for a deep dish. Starving, we each ate a slice before flagging down our server. He admitted he had given us the wrong pizza and assured us our correct order was in the oven. Meanwhile, our wings didn't come out until after the pizza, and only because we asked again. We'll give them credit and add an additional star for giving us the wings on the house. We weren't the only ones dealing with issues. One party in our section left before their pizza even arrived. Another asked to speak to the manager, who, after walking away from their table, muttered "Jesus F'ing Christ"--a shocking and unprofessional response to a valid complaint. His tone and attitude made an already bad experience worse. Did you know that April 5th is National Deep Dish Day? Mr. Friendliest 2018 (aka Mike D --- go add him!) had let me in on this info after wishing me a happy birthday. I suppose it was only right that my birthday is also a foodie pizza holiday. I think I'm 85% pizza, carbs and cheese at the minimum, at this point in my life. Good ol' Lou Malnati has finally opened up an east valley location. While I must admit that there's just *something* better about their original Phoenix location, this Tempe spot is decent. The Malnati's salad is always good, I'm a big fan of their wings, and you really can't go wrong with their deep dish pizza. I will say that I think the butter crust at this location doesn't seem as buttery and delicious but you won't be disappointed.
