It's a tiny storefront with no indoor seating & very limited space at the counter. Service was no nonsense & efficient. She was very patient with me since there were so many different variations to choose from. The hotdogs were boiled and served on a fluffy bun. My Coastline hotdogs were delicious! When I say it's a hole it the wall that's exactly it. The place is great for if you need a fast cheap lunch in a pinch. For about $8 you can get a hotdog, a bag of chips, and soft drink. Servers in the joint looked so tired but were nice. The hotdog itself was meh even with chili and cheese and there wasn't any tables to sit at to eat at so we went to sit at the boardwalk. Overall I personally wouldn't be back unless I needed a fast cheap option. Curve your expectations with this one. read more

Very rude owner... i was literally the second customer of the day, i ordered just 3 dogs to which she remarked "its gona be a looong day..." among many other rude remarks and jesters during my visit there. super strange and weird. Terrible vibe inside this place, your food is not good enough for you to be acting like that, and its a shame. Too many other great restaurants in this town to be supporting a place like this, do better. I also see from others reviews that this bad attitude is a recurring issue, like how hard is it to treat people nicely? Again i was literally the second customer of the day... Also, the owner was still putting out chairs and signs 15 minutes after "open" and said shes not ready to serve us yet, so me and another guy were just waiting there for her to be finished. The hot dog itself was really good and they have great chili. The inside is cramped and there is barely any seating. The only seats are outside and it is only two chairs. I've been coming to Louie's since 1992. I love the hot dogs but the owner isn't pleasant at all. My husband love going there. We moved to Wilmington, Nc in April 2021. My grandkids come every summer and my husband suggest after the pool to go to Louie's but I know the owner isn't pleasant at all. I spent $50 on my grands and after I placed my order she gave a disappointing response. Now what owner of a store does that. If you are a vegetarian/plant-based/vegan, you NEED to try this veggie hot dog. It was so delicious and realistic that I almost felt concerned that it was a real meat hot dog, but it is really just that good while still being meat-free! The one I got in the photo has cheese obviously, but there are a ton of other vegan-friendly toppings to choose from as well. In my opinion, a lot of (if not most) plant-based hot dogs have issues with taste replication and weird textures, but this one is just spot on to the real thing. After becoming allergic to meat a couple of years ago, I've struggled to find anything close to this, so I'm delighted to have found that this place exists and that it is right within walking distance from CFCC's campus too. As a bonus, the ladies who work there are also very kind. They make you feel very welcome and they make sure to take the time to talk to everyone. You can just tell they care. Solid little hole-in-the-wall hot dog joint with a variety of dogs (some of which are between wierd and more weird) and toppings. This place has bee around since 1989 so they've been doing sometime right. They have given the various dogs names, guess it makes it easier to order. Their version of the Southern chili dog (labeled the" Front Street") is pretty good, with a nice wiener, decent chili, and nice soft bun - substitute coleslaw for the onions have you have just ordered a "Jacob's Run". The origin of the Front Street dog I can see, Jacob's Run, not so much. Both pretty good dogs though. They also have a" Babe Ruth" dog - mustard, kraut, & onions - skip the onions and you have a "Cape Fear". The "Juan Corizon" attempts to take you south of the border with toppings of cheese, chili, salsa, and jalapenos - spicy little devil, and quite good. Now, the weird ones - they offer a dog with barbecue sauce, bacon bits & cheese (the "Latimer"); 3, yes 3, dogs that include ketchup as a topping (there is no ketchup on hot dogs), and even one (the "Thallian" - bet there is a story there, as well) with mayo and cheese. If there is no ketchup on hot dogs, can we even imagine where that puts mayo? Their plain dog is preciously called the "Nun", hard to contain the giggles on that one - and of course it goes for the same $2.25 as those with toppings. Guess it all evens out at some point. They offer a very nice sausage dog (spicy is the way to go here) for $3, and a barbecue sandwich (the "Pender County") for $3.50 - remember the first rule on barbecue - if they don't cook it there, you shouldn't eat it there - go for a dog instead, even one with ketchup or mayo. Good people, friendly service here. Seems there is something for everyone here, even those of our brethern who have chosen to take thehot dog road less traveled. read more

Awesome chili dog here. Split top bun carries the load too. It helps when the owner enjoys his work and is smiling. This guy was grinning from ear to ear. Top not all beef frank. I usually like the small dogs but this jumbo really hot the spot. Chili is meaty and loaded with flavor . Onions were cold and fresh chopped. I had the coastal dog. It was a thing of beauty. A little messy to eat but so tasty I didn't slow down until it was gone. Almost got a second one. Wish I had now. Good selection of toppings with something for everyone. read more

I got hooked on Louie's dogs when I was working downtown from 1994-1997. I've never had a bad dog, but my personal favorite is the Carolina style "Jacob's Run" dog with mustard, chili and slaw. I've tried the same combination in many other places, but the individual ingredients are perfectly balanced in the Louie's version. Best hot dog EVER! I have had Chicago hotdogs, New York hotdogs, but nothing compares to a southern hot dog from Louie's. The "Scurvy Dog" is phenomenal. All the flavors that you would not normally think would work well together are like a party in your mouth when combined. You will love this place. They boast it is the smallest restaurant in the world. Being able to spread your arms open and almost touch both side walls is hysterically funny. No place to eat inside, so know that going in. Everyone eats outside while standing or eating in their vehicle--well worth it! There is a reason you usually see lines outside the door.
