*CASH ONLY* Our friends took us to their favorite little local spot - Salt Works! We stopped in for breakfast one Saturday morning and didn't have to wait long. This is a neighborhood diner that has been around for years and I can see why! They serve up the most delicious breakfast with huge portions to beat. The grits have incredible flavor and texture. My omelet was cooked perfectly and not dry at all. The home fries are little crispy potatoes that looked amazing. Everyone loved their breakfast! The cooks were really cranking out the breakfast plates, it was really fun to watch. I wanna go back to try their lunch specials!

Solid breakfast experience! This place is extremely casual and cash only. Service was quick and friendly. The dining space is small, so expect a wait on the weekends. However, they were able to get my group in faster than expected. I ordered egg breakfast without meat, grits, and a side of home fries. they nailed the cook on the eggs and the grits were fantastic. The homefries were pretty basic and a little bland, but salt and ketchup was all I really needed to make them workable. My meal also came with toast, which standard breakfast faire. If you're looking for an affordable, no-frills breakfast, this place is a great option!

I was in Wilmington it looked for a breakfast place. I found this and sat down and ordered and my food arrived and looked super delicious. Then I noticed there was a cash only sign on the door and I did not have cash. As I stressed out the cook who may have been the owner came up and told me that not to worry about that. He only was worried that I would have a good meal. He said if if I didn't have cash I can pay the next time I was in town. He also said there was an ATM right next door which really relieved me. So I was able to go get cash and pay. The food was perfect, the staff were super friendly and welcoming. I only get to Wilmington maybe once a year but I will definitely eat there the next time I'm in town right now. What a wonderful place

Decided to stop for breakfast this morning. We were seated promptly, the restaurant is small only about 10 tables and a few seats at the bar area. Menus were on the table and our server was prompt. We both decided on a Salt Works Famous Breakfast; eggs fixed your way , with a choice of bacon, ham, sausage, grits or hashbrowns and toast . I went for the one egg , scrambled dry, with sausage, hashbrowns and an english muffin with coffee. Hubby ordered; two eggs, scrambled dry, crispy bacon, hashbrowns, and whole wheat toast and chocolate milk. We both asked for strawberry jam. It was a short wait until our food arrived . The place was full of patrons. Coffee comes in a large to go cup- styrofoam. Our orders arrived , the eggs were perfectly cooked, not runny . The hashbrowns tasty and perfectly cooked. The sausage had great flavor and was one round patty. The english muffin well toasted. The bacon was nice and crispy - as ordered and the toast perfect . The chocolate milk also came in a to go cup ; it was cold and nice and chocolaty. It was a great breakfast, service was good . Please remember to bring cash , they take No plastic at all. When we left there was a line waiting to get in. This place is worth a return trip to. Maybe even try lunch there .

This place is a Perfect example of Simple Food made well. I am a believer in the (KISS principle), go in, sit down, order from a small well thought out menu and order, Food comes hot, fixed the way it should, tastes even better, get up and get out and the Service!!!??? WTH (Lauren) and the Manager/Fast Order Cook (John) Friendly, went out of their way to make you feel like your were family coming over for the holidays. I had 2 Grilled Cheese ( Up Charge to Fries, CRINKLE!) keep in mind if you order 2 sandwiches your going to get double fries unless you tell them, not that bothered me, the fires were awesome. The wife had a Grilled turkey with fries and loved it. We will be back, I promise you that!

The best French toast, breakfast potatoes, and bacon I have ever had. All of the waitresses were extremely nice and the food came out quickly! Cozy restaurant!

While that was disappointing, I understand that delays happen. The bigger issue was the fly infestation toward the back of the restaurant. The flies were practically covering the mirror behind our table (as shown in my photos). While we were waiting for our food, they mostly stayed on the mirror and seats, but as soon as the food arrived, they were constantly landing on it. I spent the entire meal swatting flies away from our plates, which made it very difficult to enjoy our food. As for the food itself, the blueberry hush puppies were amazing! Unfortunately, the rest of the meal was disappointing. I ordered the Biscuit Shack, and it was served on tough bread with a slice of cheese that was still cold, as if it had just been taken out of the refrigerator and placed on top. Two other dishes at our table also had eggshells hidden in the food. Overall, between the flies and the food quality issues, we likely won't be returning.

First off, by the time we arrived around 10am, they only had a few donuts left. Honestly, I wouldn't necessarily count that against them because it may just be a sign that the donuts are really popular. They were completely sold out by 10:30, though, so definitely come early if donuts are your priority. We were lucky enough to grab a strawberry donut and a half dozen munchies, and the donuts themselves were GREAT! I ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich on an Asiago bagel. The flavors were good, but the bagel was a little too crunchy which made it difficult to eat. If I went again, I'd probably either get the Asiago bagel with cream cheese or stick to a plain bagel for the sandwich. My daughter ordered the bacon, lettuce, and pimento cheese biscuit, but they were out of biscuits so she switched to a bagel instead. Unfortunately, they forgot the bacon entirely, which was pretty disappointing since that's a major part of the sandwich. My other daughter ordered the Baja breakfast burrito with salsa on the side, but the salsa was put directly on the burrito. To their credit, they did offer to remake it, but we had already been waiting about 20 minutes so we decided to just keep it. Oddly, we still had to wait another 7 minutes after that for our food. Overall, the donuts were excellent, but between the long wait, several order issues, and limited availability, it just wasn't a place I'd personally go back to.
