The other day we passed Trolley Stop Grill and my wife flew into an intense poetic ballad about her love for these hot dogs. I thought to myself she must just be idolizing this place since it reminds her of her childhood, but I was wrong. It is legit amazing. We went in today for lunch and I was in love from the moment we pulled up in our car. Trolley Stop has a great feel and atmosphere. The staff are nice and food comes out quick. I ate two Nathan's All-Beef hot dogs with the North Carolina and All The Way toppings. They were the perfect amount of food for a hungry guy. I also got a side of potato salad and it had that home made taste that screams summer BBQ. Prices are cheap all around, but don't be fooled, because the quality is high. There are even vegan and vegetarian options for your uncle who does yoga or your hippy loving aunt.

What a joy to see the Trolley Stop Cart off Market by Auto-Dentz!! These dogs hit the spot on a hot summer day!! I love all the different toppings and will be back to try more!

Ordered from GrubHub because I wanted to try someplace new and have a craving for a cheesesteak. First thing was that Grubhub says no minimum but was going to charge me an extra $2 for a "low dollar order" so I added a pair of cookies to satisfy the requirement. I will give props to the delivery though, it was quick and the driver was super nice. Now onto the food. I was kind of disappointed when I opened the package and saw what would be considered half a cheesesteak at the usual place I order from. The meat was charred and there was no discernable cheese on the sandwich. It just fell flat. Then I opened the cheese fries and saw that's where the cheese was. While they were still warm and gooey they were COVERED in a cheese sauce. They were almost too much to handle. The oatmeal raisin cookies were soft which I was excited about but their flavor had a little extra something in them which I couldn't put my finger on. Definitely sweeter than an average oatmeal cookie which didn't sit well on my tastebuds. All in all the delivery was top notch but I don't know that the food was anything to write home about.

Trolly Stop is a local staple and has served me well as I have grown up in Wilmington. I am not sure if it the difference in ambiance, but I do prefer the beach location over this one. I feel as though the workers at the beach location are more bubbly and the food comes out much hotter. However, if you are looking for a complete meal, this location is the one for you. We went for their happy hour special and got some Surfer Dogs -- which are a must if it is your first time eating at a Trolly Stop location. Also, you can replace any dog with a veggie dog, which I highly recommend as they taste nearly identical.

It'd been awhile since I'd visited Trolly Stop, so when 5:30p hit, they popped in my head immediately for dinner due to my inner burger craving. This was the first time ordering a burger from here but their dogs and phillys have always been fantastic, so why not try something different? I hadn't eaten all day and was starving, so I ordered a double cheeseburger with bacon, grilled onion, lettuce, mayo, tomato and one pump of Trolly Stop's "pump" cheese sauce to top it off. I was expecting smashburger patties but was delivered a monster-of-a-sandwich. Each patty is 1/3rd lb and, fully dressed, was close to being a 1 lb burger. It was cooked to my liking, the ingredients shined and my hands were stupid messy...the way a burger should be. It's not my top burger, but this one was damn good nevertheless. I'd order this again but only if I were sharing half with someone else. Taste and presentation, overall? 4.2 stars. The service this time around was pleasant and the employees didn't seem to mind working at all. With the exception of 4 or 5 flies I observed gliding around the beverage area, the place seemed clean. In addition, I would also recommend handling customers' food, directly, with some gloves rather than raw-dogging it with bare skin. This experience made for great photo ops, but unless you just scrubbed your hands with pure lye and a brillo pad for 5 minutes, I prefer a food handler to use a protective layer between their hands and the food I'm about to consume. Aside from this piece, I enjoyed what I ordered and I'm not sick 24 hours afterward. Trolly Stop employees.......let's get some food prep gloves on, ok? SCORE: 3.8 STARS!!

A little bit of a backstory - every month or two I crave a good chili, slaw, and ketchup hotdog (I know, not quite Carolina style) - and I'm determined to find one as good as the place in my hometown in Charleston. So far, I've never been close. Until today. And I've been on this mission for about 10 years. After hearing from a bunch of Wilmington locals that this is the place I should try, I was finally able to go today. They are open I believe from 10 to 4 Monday through Saturday. Cash only. You drive up to a parking spot. Park. Roll down your window. And wait for the people to come take your order. I believe I came at one of the busiest times ever - I think every single parking spot was full. But the lady saw that I pulled in and she was over to take my order as soon as reasonably possible. I only had a $20 bill so I was worried about how much I could order. Oh my gosh! What a silly concern. I was able to get two hotdogs the way I like it with chili, slaw, and ketchup, I also ordered a plain hotdog for my dog, and she rang it up just as a wiener that has no bun. Perfect. She told me that I would still have money left over with my $20 bill to get fries and even a drink. I ordered a Diet Coke and I was surprised that it came out in a beautiful wonderful bottle! Delicious! And the fries are crinkle cut fries! You won't even believe me when I tell you that that entire order was $11.75. I was amazed! It probably took about 10 minutes to receive my food. But it's a nice day and I was just chilling in the car until it was ready. Not a bad weight when we have our phones, music on the radio, and especially if you were in the car with some friends or family members like many people were today. I've already eaten one hotdog and it is absolutely delicious. The slaw is finely chopped and sweet. It adds such a nice touch to the hot dog. And the chili is actually on point. Also finely ground. The hotdogs are that bright red style that is common around eastern North Carolina. I know that is some people's preference, but I will say that the look has always scared me and I've actually stayed away from a lot of places that serve the style of hot dog. Well, that was foolish. This thing was so good. Probably the best hotdog so far that I have had in the state of North Carolina, and believe me, I have tried hotdogs across the state and surrounding ones. So happy I found you, Merrits burger house! I will definitely be back! And thank you to my amazing waitress today.

It was fun just hanging out in the car and the nostalgic vibe. Since it's a burger house, we ordered burgers, fries, a vanilla milkshake and a bottled soda. It was around $21. It is cash only! The burger was just okay and could've used a bit more flavor. The fries were good and my son loved the milkshake. Next time I might try a hot dog since that seems like another popular item. Overall, the food isn't amazing, but the experience and nostalgic atmosphere made it worth the visit.
