Louis is a great basque restaurant and bar! The service is always great at this place. If you're here, I highly recommend ordering a picon drink! Now, if I'm going to be honest with the food! Overall it's good, all the side dishes before your main entree is always delicious. It's always different every week so I would highly recommend calling ahead. They usually start with soup, salad, beans, chicken/meat side dish, entree, french fries and dessert! It's a lot!! Their entree are a little inconsistent for me, there are times when it's perfect but there have been times when the entree comes a little cold or over done. I saw this place on Diners, Drives, and Dive-ins so of course I had to check it out since we were in town. We went for lunch and it wasn't crowded so we sat down right away. With the meal comes a kraft of Red wine, soup, a salad, and Chorizo and beans. All the items are sharable dishes for the table. Three other people sat down at are table so they also shared the dishes. There was plenty of food so that was good. The soup was Red Clam chowder and it was delicious. The taste was great, and plenty of clams in the soup. The salad had a vinaigrette dressing which was tasty. The beans with chorizo was out of bounds. Plenty of flavor, and cooked perfect. We ordered the pork chops, the Beef Tongue, the oxtails, and the lollipop lamb chops. All the dishes were cooked perfect, they were tender and juicy, with great flavor. We also tried the sweetbreads which was cooked good and great flavor. The table next us ordered the Louis Fries and the Leg of lamb and they let us try those dishes. The Louis fries were ridiculously great. The flavor of the meat, the sauce, and plenty of fries. The leg of lamb was cooked perfect and tender. Very delicious dinner. This was the second time eating here, and it was much better the second time around. The vegetable soup was so yummy. The new York steak was cooked to perfection. The fries were hot and fresh. Others in the party ordered the sweet breads, leg of lamb, and the special of the day, the prime rib. I tried the basque cheesecake, which was not included in the family style meal. It was only $10 dollars to add to the meal. I'm not too sure how I feel about the basque cheesecake as it is not your typical creamy style cheesecake but was still decent. There was also an option for grapes and cheese as well as the vanilla ice cream. This is our Super Bowl eve dinner! 10 fantasy football team owners head to Reno for a weekend of gamblin, drinkin, and eating well! Yeah, this was our spot for 2022! Worked out great. Now I never ate Basque before but I did that night. Everyone raved. I still won't eat ox tail. You could add anything you want to that and I am not eating it. Felt a little adventurous on Postmates today and I have despite living in Reno for 3 years, I have never had Basque food. I saw one of the items on the menu was called "No Entrée Lunch." with no description for $14. If I got absolutely nothing, that is exactly what I paid for. To my surprise, it was a whole lot of food. It comes with a salad, 3 slices of bread, a ton of fries, beans, and soup. Everyone was still fresh, warm, and delicious. If you have had minestrone soup, the soup provided is very similar to that. The fries were amazing! They were so crispy even after the delivery. I'm glad I tried something new today. I will definitely order something that comes with an entrée next time! read more

Unfortunately didn't get pics of the food. But for my first time having basque food it was good and I would try again. It's family style serving unless you it pick a different main course from the chicken we tried the ox tail, and prime rib. The soup and salad was already I closed, we added garlic fries, and honestly the BEST item was the beans! The beans were super flavorful and could taste the ham pieces in it . I wasn't particularly impressed with my alcoholic beverage (Moscow mule) but the wine included with the dinner was good. The ambiance has a darker feel to it, tables are pretty close together and we had a large party so was a little challenging to get in and out. This isn't a restaurant I would typically go to. We had a reservation so they were able to seat us quickly and had food out within 20min or so of ordering. The staff was really nice and attentive. Overall I've tried the food as a good introduction and would be happy to try another place and compare. read more

We came in for lunch as part of our 2023 #lovewhereyoulive tour of Nevada. It was a new experience for the kids and a new spot for all of us. The kids RAVED about the food - especially the soup, beans, and salad! They also made several unprompted comments about the great service. My sirloin was cooked perfectly well-done like I requested. What a shame an old tradition of family and friends has gone so far downhill. This was always our go to with friends and special occasions. Now just another over priced over hyped foodie disappointment. Bar tender acted like he was doing us a favor by getting us drinks absolutely no personality. Waiter was the same and felt very much like he was rushing us to order. 3 ordered rib eye special 1 filet mignon off menu Soup was cold , i mean barley above room temp Next course beans were warm but not hot, salad was good as was the chicken. Entrees came while still eating salad course. We were not offered freash plates and left to eat of the small salad platez. 3 of the 4 steaks were under cooked and mine was ice cold before i could flag down anybody to even ask for horseradish. Had to flag the bartender from the bar to get drink refills. Waiter only came back with the check. Buss boy was polite tho. 350 bucks for cold under cooked food crappy service and none of the jolly atmosphere that this place had been known for. To top it off they now have an undisclosed credit card fee that appears on the bill or pay cash . This is the second place both local owned that have tried this and from now on I believe ill just pay the fee and let the server know that the fee is the tip and take it up with management. I'm a huge fan of the idea of basque food. I like the community of sitting at a shared table and the relaxed nature of having a set menu. I've eaten here for a private party a long time in the past and finally got another chance to come in and enjoy their fare. We had a reservation for 3 at 6pm on a Saturday. When we arrived they were busy, but not too crazy yet. As we enjoyed our food they got extremely busy and started filling up fast. But our waiter was still super attentive throughout the meal and the service didn't suffer from the rush of people that had arrived during our meal time. They start you off with some table wine and the option to order more drinks from their full service bar. The waiter kindly explained the tradition of the piquon punch to us upon inquiry as well. The food started to arrived and the bread and soup were delicious. The bread was fresh and soft and the clam chowder they were offering that day was extremely flavorful and unlike any clam chowder I've ever had before. It was like and brothy. The salad course was a bit soggy and honestly could have been slipped, which was a disappointment since a nice like salad would have been the perfect thing to break up such a heavy meal. The chicken and rice was really tender and flavorful and rich and I chose the lamb shoulder as my entree. It was very tender but lacked a lot of flavor and was super gamey. My dad chit the prime rib and it was cooked and served up perfectly. And the portion sizes were HUGE. Their fries are always a favorite, super crispy and tons of them. Then they finish you off with dessert or cheese. Overall, a great communal dining experience and an awesome way to get closer to your party. But I would be careful when making an entree selection and possibly ask for the dressing on the side of the salad? At $30-$50/person it is a TON of food, but you want to make sure you get your money's worth by ordering the right items. read more

What a charming little place. We were visiting from out of town, stopped here for brunch/early lunch. Place opens at 11 am and they start serving lunch at 11:30 am. We sat at the bar and by 1130am, this place was already hopping with people. Clearly a favorite of the locals, some of the cocktails are from the Basque origin and are quite popular. If you're not much of a drinker and find yourself in this bar, do not worry! Their food is just fantastic. We ordered from the bar menu, the chicken sandwich with a side of soup and , the chorizo sandwich with a side of garlic fries. Everything was just amazing. Amazing family style Basque restaurant! We never would have found this place and had such an amazingly fun time, if it hadn't been for one of our work friends who used to live in the area. It doesn't matter how many people in your party, you'll squeeze into long family tables and meet new friends. It's all you can eat so if you want more of any of the dishes, don't be shy! They have a "no entree" dinner for $23 and it's a lot of food: salad, beans, bread, fries, dessert. But if you think you need extra meat, they have entrees you can add on like steak, lamb chops, filet mignon or sweet breads. They also serve their world famous Picon Punch which will knock you on your ass if you drink too many. But how many is too many? You won't know until it happens so who cares, have fun! You'll find that magic number that's just right for you. The food was good, but we were definitely taken advantage of with the price. First we were charged for items we didn't order. We did check and have one taken off, but we weren't thorough until we got home to divide up our bill. We were charged more than what we received to about $35. Then because we had 6 people, they added a 20% tip including the tax. Tips should not be on the tax but on the food bill. We are good tippers, but this wasn't right.... First time coming here! Haven't had Basque food before and was a fun family style experience. Was fun meeting other people on our table and felt very communal. We did come late to closing so it could be our fault. The food which I had ordered did come uncooked but also could have been because since I came late. Went there for the first time recommended by a friend to celebrate another friend's going away party. Menu itself is a bit different than any other restaurant. But interestingly enough, each of us tried Specials of the night. I tried Beef tongue specials, and for a $31 dinner, it was well spent. Before the main course, there are so many side dishes all of us enjoyed with a couple rounds of red wine on the house. Overall it was a great experience, and both the food and services are excellent. First I saw Lois Boasque Corner on ZimmerList on Reno, this place was really awesome. I'm from Texas Southern boy, and their oxtails were so good. They were better than the ones I could have in Texas. They were fall off the bone tender. If you had no teeth you could eat them. I also had the prime rib dip sandwich. I like the way it was made it was perfectly good and the bun was a heart.BIG smile , the customer service was great, there is plenty parking. Soup was cold, rice was cold, beans were cold, had to ask for our drinks when they never came, the salad was so old some people at our table wouldn't eat it. Ordered steak medium well, it came rare. we went here last evening for dinner, to celebrate my sons 40 th birthday. Overall, the place was a big disappointment, First of all, we had a very early 5 pm dinner. There was no others at dinner. The waiter seated us at a table and then promptly seated 4 strangers at the same table., This was not unexpected, but with no others in the place why cram us in to the same small space?There must have been 50 seats available at other tables. in the regard, the tables were very small and there was no place to actually eat with all the dishes on the table, It was not very pleasant. The food was plentiful, but not heated, this included the fries, the soup, the rice with chicken, the beans. All served luke warm. the main course, for me was a ribeye,steak, the others all had lamb. I asked for a medium rare steak, but mine came raw and it was tough, a low grade cut of meat, it was nicely charred but it was difficult to cut and chew. the desert was ice cream and it too , came warm, mostly melting. Is this typical of a Basque meal? for a $60 steak mine was barely eatable. what a disappointment. others had lamb and said it was good, So I guess I made a mistake, and Basques do not eat steak. or heated food. An ode to an uniquely Nevadan dining experience! Louis was the perfect place to end a long day and wind down. The restaurant is just comfortable, and the food is too. The bar menu is perfect if you're feeling like you want the Basque flavors without the family style fuss, which is why I love it so much! Tonight I got the chorizo sandwich ($10) with a side of garlic fries. The sausage was split and nicely crisped on all sides, and it was topped with roasted peppers and onions. It's a good sandwich, and a decent value for the price, but it was a little basic for me. The fries though were five stars all the way! I loved that they used whole cloves of roasted garlic on the fries! Still my favorite is the honey hot wings. I regret I did not have them tonight. So I shall return soon! read more

I can't believe I didn't come here sooner!!! All this time and as often that I do go to Reno I can't believe I didn't know about this establishment! I enjoyed the Tuesday special yesterday after craving oxtails. Nice size portion and it held so much flavor, tender and not fatty at all. The bread and butter dipped into the oxtail sauce sealed the deal for me. I will definitely order two orders next time when I visit Reno again because when I got back to my room... let's just say my husband couldn't resist the way I was eating and moaning after every succulent chewing and bites he quickly joined my meal. My husband and I were there for dinner the day after Christmas with my parents and had a great experience. Dinners are family style which is always fun and I love that they serve a mix of sides for everyone to share. Three of us had the sirloin which was great. It's a grilled steak not cooked on a flat top or broiled, but was a nicely grilled, great cut of sirloin. My father had the lamb chops which were lovely. The beans, stewed chicken, salad and fries were all great. I had the basque cheesecake for dessert which came with fruit and whipped cream on top and I loved it. It's a pretty amazing value for the price, your entree includes salad, sides, table wine and dessert of your choice. Service was great, they were very busy with two really big parties in the room but the service staff was on top of everything. Plates were cleared immediately, food came quickly and exactly as ordered. You never had to ask for anything, they were so on top of it. I asked for a box for my leftover steak and didn't have to flag anyone down for it which is pretty rare these days! On the negative side, the restaurant is very noisy. If you are a couple you are likely to be seated with other people, which I'm not comfortable with.
