All of the food rewarded our taste buds with its sparkling freshness. I was impressed from the moment I received my house salad. The lettuces and other vegetables were so beautifully crisp and appetizing and the dressing was freshly made on site. The protein bowl was my entree and couldn't have been more satisfying. It too was pleasing in its presentation with its perfectly grilled kernels of corn and chicken breast on top--Just delightful and the portion was generous so I had leftovers to take home. My husband enjoyed the roasted turkey with cornbread dressing. Again the portions were plentiful and the plating showed the kitchen's pride by making sure everything looked as good it tasted. What a wonderful restaurant with a beautiful patio! I dined alone, which is unusual for me. I started with the half order of Buffalo wings. They are fantastic. They're definitely spicy, so not for the faint of heart. I also ordered the smoked Gouda veggie wrap with sweet potato fries. It was delicious and had a generous amount of pesto and balsamic vinegar. I ordered the pineapple coconut cake to take home for the next day, and it was fantastic! It was so light and refreshing. My server was very attentive and had excellent hospitality. Popular local eatery where we enjoyed a group dinner al fresco. Wait on a Tuesday night was ~20-25 minutes at the height of dinner rush. Everyone enjoyed their meals: small salad with golden beets (came with an excessive amount of salad dressing), Buffalo chicken wrap, flat bread, fried green tomatoes with potato pancake (a surprisingly heavy meal), and shrimp and grits (she wished the grits had not been fried). Service and ambiance was successful once again (my compliments to the bartender). After having a garden salad with citrus berry vinaigrette, which was the tartest vinaigrette I've ever had, I got the Blackberry Pork Chop entree, which was a large bone-in pork chop covered in blackberry BBQ sauce, served with a sweet potato hash and garlic green beans. The beans could have used a little more garlic but were still cooked properly and the hash nicely combined regular potatoes with sweet potatoes (i.e. the crunchy and soft textures). The pork was cooked perfectly, as the inside was glistening with those juices, and the texture melted in my mouth. The blackberry BBQ sauce gave it a great sweetness. This was a great little café as you enter black Mountain, North Carolina. Incredible spot to eat and then afterwards walk around and shop. Plenty of things there to catch your eye from clothing to records to sports gear to local hardware store stores. I had the Reuben on gluten-free bread, which was one of the better Rubens I've ever had in my life. My son ended up ordering a kid burger, which was actually an adult size hamburger and my wife had to have sandwich and soup. Prices were completely fair and reasonable. This place is tucked away next to the town visitor center back in the woods and has a very cabin like feel. We will absolutely be back next time we're in Black Mountain.. read more

My family and I came here for dinner and we all enjoyed the ambiance, food, and service. Although it was pretty busy, the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I ordered the poke bowl which was more like a grain/Buddha bowl in my opinion since it had sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts, and mushrooms which are not typical poke bowl ingredients. This place looks popular and must always be slammed during busy seasons in Black Mountain. All the servers and staff were working so hard to seat and serve everyone in some very hot weather this week, and everyone was courteous and attentive. We had a bit of a wait, but not bad - about 20 min., which is what I'd expect mid-week the week before July 4. We had two of the beers on tap - a nice lager and an IPA. I had a burger with sweet potato fries - my husband had the Mac and cheese with hot honey and chicken fingers. The chicken was a tad dry but everything else was very good! Our first night in Black Mountain and our family enjoyed this meal, thoroughly. We did have to wait a while for someone to even to come to the hostess stand, maybe 10 minutes and I'm not sure why, there were tables open but maybe it was busy for them. My husband had the fried green tomatoes to start, he is always happy to order those wherever he can. I ordered the steak and the kids had burgers. First time up in Black Mountain and four of us were heading to The Cove for a Women's Retreat and decided to come here per recommendation from our Women's Ministry leader. We sat outside and so I never went inside to see the dining area. Nice and casual, there were plenty of outdoor seating which is ideal for this adorable town. Yet the food was absolutely delicious. I couldn't decide which one to pick so one friend and I each picked one and shared the other half. The goat cheese chicken wrap sounded so good, and the sweet potato fries were chosen as the side. It was very good BUT the hot chicken sandwich stole my heart (or at least my taste bud) as such wonderful flavor!! And the homemade chips were as addictive as were the fries. Great service and excellent experience. Plus, the company was fantastic. I look forward to the next time I visit Black Mountain as I will certainly be back here to eat! read more

Service was horrible! First there's nobody at the "to be seated" station. A bunch of people were standing around waiting for a table. Put our name in and went into the 5 seat bar area to have a glass of wine while we wait. 15 min later a person came by and was able to get a glass of wine. Finally sat at a table and ordered an appetizer. That came out at after 20 min. When it came out we ordered salad and entrees. We finished appetizers and 30 min later I had to ask where our server was. She finally came out and said sorry but they were backed up. She never asked how we were doing before I had to ask for her. It's a shame because the appetizer was delicious and I'm sure the entree would have been good as well. This place is poorly managed, the staff looked sleepy and unkept. read more

When you stroll through the large outdoor patio, you can observe the banter and delight of multiple parties of friends and families enjoying a great meal in beautiful surroundings. The service here is attentive and polite. The indoor area has a full bar and a nice indoor dining venue. The menu is varied, from full entrees to sandwiches and salads. I had the Reuben sandwich, a grilled corned beef, dressing, and sauerkraut plied high on a delightful marbled rye. I don't write reviews of restaurants often. So when I do, it's because it was fantastic! My hubby and I went for a quick weekend out and spent the night in Black Mountain. We settled on this restaurant for dinner, and it did not disappoint! We started with the fried pickles which were fabulous! Hubby got a burger which he thought was great, but the highlight of the evening was the Fall for Pasta. Gnocchi with pancetta, apple, arugula and peas in a garlic cream sauce. Out of this world!! I never thought of apple in a pasta dish, but just wow! And the little garden salad as an accompaniment was fresh and delicious. I am still dreaming about that pasta! Worth a drive back soon!! What can I say about this lovely restaurant? The food is yummy, the atmosphere is outstanding and the service excellent! This is our second time here. The first time we sat outside under an umbrella with our two doggies. This time we sat outside under the covered patio. I ordered the sautéed trout with the fish chowder, green beans with garlic, and broccoli. Dave had the crab cake dinner, the fish chowder, homemade French fries and coleslaw. He raved about the crab cakes which actually had fresh crab! Then he asked Will about the desserts and chose the three layer chocolate cake. What an unexpected treat to experience this place for a lunch time gathering of old friends. My friend Jayne B that I have not seen since 1988 from my days with EAL in KC and my HS friend Tina M from Lakeland all met up here for a wonderful gathering and a walk down memory lane. The menu was outstanding, the food quality was exceptional, the portion were eye popping and the value was off the charts. We had great service from Susie Q.
