I went here with my family for lunch. The server Adam was wonderful and took good care of us but there was one snafu - when pouring a cup of coffee, the coffee pot completely broke apart and hot coffee spilled all down my mother in laws back and shot directly at my face, hair, shirt. The server loudly and panicky said "I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry!" The male manager swiftly came over and shushed him promptly (I'm assuming to stop the attention/disturbance/potential lawsuit?) they might have faced as a business. The owner came over and assessed the situation. She came and looked at me, and then my mother in law (after we had mostly dried off) to apologize. Thankfully, nobody was hurt as this could have resulted in serious injury/burns with scalding hot coffee. What struck me as odd was her comment to my mother in law stating "oh good, it's not that bad" as if she has had an entire pot of coffee spilled on her before. The owner so graciously discounted our $9 desserts 50% off. $9 off total for an approx $100 spent over our 4 bills. At that point, it would be been less insulting to not comp anything. Did I mention I had coffee shoot directly at my face/on top of my head and NOTHING on my bill was comped? I think the food is good but the hospitality/customer service is severely lacking. I was a server for over 8 years and have spilled condiments, wine, soft drinks, dropped entire plates of food etc. Mistakes happen - but for the companies I have worked previously, when something like this happened the patrons entire meal was comped. I'm adding that again, this was NOT the servers fault - but the recourse should have been handled differently by the owner. read more

Loukinens food tastes good but most of it is incredibly rich and buttery! The last two times I've eaten there, I've gotten an upset stomach from my dinner! Wow! what a fresh surprise in downtown Springfield. 5 star all the way, perfectly prepared pork loin with creamy gnocchi ($24) and ribeye with potatoes daphenois ($44), choice of sauces served on the side, pick your own decadent starch. We added greenbeans with prosciutto prepared al dente to share ($7). A very nice bottle of Syrah for $40. Food plated with style Prices higher than the local norm, but oh so worth it. Perfectly prepared high quality ingredients and substantial portions. Service with the right amount of competent informed attention . I wanted to sample 2 other sauces and those were brought promptly. Just an all around excellent dining experience. The restaurant also has a separate full bar area with its own menu. BIG CEO STATUS! The owner is terrible! I was a huge fan of this place until I had a terrible and embarrassing experience. We were a party of 7 and 6 of us were there before our reservation time. I had clients with me and one from the party was running late due to the weather so we put his order in to not inconvenience the staff. We let them know this and they 100% refused to let him in, our guests came from Chicago to have dinner with us and were completely shocked and uncomfortable with the situation. The worst part about the situation is we spoke with the owner on the floor and she was arguing with us that they would not let him in, the chef proceeds to come out and also argue.The service here is terrible, they don't have any hospitality or decent customer service. He was running a few minutes late it's not a big deal, and he didn't need any specific extra service that would inconvenience them. We were spending over $700 on dinner that night and we went home and cancelled the entire order. What a major embarrassment for them, we are local customers who come in regularly and will NEVER come back in after the disrespect and embarrassment we received. They do not even deserve 1 star after that treatment. Even after we let them know we were leaving bad reviews they brushed us off saying they didn't care and that they had excellent reviews. I have never in my life seen an owner of a business treat a customer like that and not care. Don't come here if you want to be treated with decency. read more

This was the worst eating experience I ever had and I didn't even get to eat. A lady who claimed to be the owner's assistant (she REFUSED to tell me her name, I can only assume because she knew she was wrong) refused to seat the guests on our reservation because some were late. The restaurant had PLENTY seats open and she even refused to let people sit at the bar. The treatment we received was extremely disrespectful and inconsiderate. Additionally, there was supposed to be a birthday cake surprise that I had called and requested they do NOT tell the birthday girl, and they went out of their way to CALL the birthday girl on her phone and ruin the surprise. We came to Springfield, IL to visit family nearby and had trouble finding a good restaurant. This restaurant greatly exceeded our expectations. The food is delicious and the service is outstanding. Wait staff was attentive and enjoyed giving us some background on the area as well as the restaurant. Finnish Chef Loukinen also stopped by our table to say hello! We ate three different appetizers and a salad. Each dish was delectable. We dined alfresco in spite of warm temps. They had fans set up outside that kept us cool and free from bothersome flies. From where I sat on the patio I admired the beautiful art work indoors - huge windows! So the ambiance in this restaurant is as lovely as the food is delicious. Highly recommend! read more

We had a lovely evening sitting on the patio. Just ordered appetizers but they were WONDERFUL! We chose the fried goat cheese, crab cakes, calamari and French onion soup. All were exceptional!! He peach chutney with the goat cheese was delicious and the calamari had a wonderful sweet/savory sauce. I loved, loved, loved the villa maria bubbly Sauvignon blanc wine. It was tart and had just enough bubbles to make it wonderful! The chef came around and checked on everyone which was totally classy and then his wife also came around and we had a great conversation with her. Don't miss this gem!! Today was our 1st time eating here. My husband and I walked in wearing hats and we were told we couldn't eat in the main dining so we started to leave. The VERY nice hostess followed us out and offered us outdoor seating. It was a PERFECT experience. The weather and walk by traffic made for a perfect atmosphere and the food was amazing. Among appetizers, the most impressive is the cauliflower with unique flavor in the attached photo. For entree, I ordered Bunn farm ribeye with wild mushroom sauce, it was really worthy to try. My office decided to go here last minute. With 30 minutes warning, we had a nice table for eight waiting. The service was excellent and everyone was happy with their meal. My Mahi Mahi tacos were excellent. The price was surprisingly low for the excellent food. Definitely want to go back in the evening for a more leisurely meal. read more

We recently held our office party at Loukinens'. It was a great experience. Our hostess was very friendly and accommodating and seated us promptly. Two people were assigned to our table. So, our service was very efficient and they were very attentive to all of our needs. They fully explained the specials and all the menu choices. We opted for several of the appetizers and chose from their wide selection of menu offerings. Everyone was very happy with their selections and portion sizes. We were pleasantly surprised when the chef and owner both checked in with our group in order to insure our satisfaction. At least one person in our group purchased a gift card for a family member.. I went here last night and met one of my former coworkers now friend and let me tell you, if there is a great place to escape to this is it. The ambiance is welcoming with low lighting, a fireplace and tables spread out enough that you don't have to worry about knocking anything over on the table next to you. I am well endowed so this is very important to me. We had the window seating and I absolutely loved it. My friend J found a moment of joy as she watched a couple snow fighting cross the street. Our server Alex was charming and attentive. I think I speak for myself and J when I say we felt like queens for the night. James, what I believe to be the maitre'd was just as attentive as our waiter. We were able to sample the wine of the day before purchasing a bottle. We shared an appetizer (deep fried cauliflower) which was battered, fried and sauced a combination to cauliflower with an added bit of spice I had not ever experienced before. It was delish. We both had a soup and salad and if I may say so, I am not accustomed to eating soup, salad and cauliflower and being full and satisfied but I can genuinely say I was. I had the lobster bisque and apple arugula salad with pecans. The wine was a Riesling which I should have photographed, I knew I wouldn't remember the label but in summary we finished the bottle either way. Fine dining at its best in Springfield. Yes, I shall try it again, and again, and again. Thanks James and Alex and the unnamed chef that had had to send a tip back to because he stuck his foot in that soup kettle I'm sure. I came here hoping for a great meal but I was really disappointed. I ordered the oysters of the day and they were sour, rubbery, and worst of all, lukewarm. I ate 2 of the 6 before giving up. The Korean BBQ duck was okay, but the sauce was drizzled and there was no glaze. The side of fried rice was good, but the veggies were too spicy to eat, and I love spice. Lastly I ordered the ice cream trio. It came too frozen to eat so I had to wait for it to thaw. The blueberry cheesecake was good, but the chocolate maple was placed on a cinnamon (maybe?) syrup that was fiery and spicy and ruined the entire scoop. Several fruit flies also almost flew into my wine. I normally go to the same places downtown so I was sad to try something new and have a bad experience. read more
