This was our second visit to celebrate our anniversary this past Sunday. The waiter recommended their so called " private reserve steaks . So we ordered 2 of them, over $70 each. Unfortunately they were simply awful! Heavy gristle and nearly impossible to cut. Our service was below average, as he kept forgetting items we ordered? He eventually bought them but they should have been served at same time as the entree. The dining room was full but we expected top service regardless of the other patrons. If a top tier restaurant is too crowded then add staff ! The poor service and awful steak really made our 44 th anniversary celebration miserable. Unacceptable! Especially when the total tab was over $200 for 2 people. I normally tip well over 20% but this dinner was not worth more . I debated a lesser tip but left 20 % . Should have ordered the standard Prime steak instead of the private reserve. My dog loves the leftover steak cause he loves gristle. read more

Visiting the Kids and gbaby from out of town and had them make reservations for Saturday at 4 pm (when they opened) and was greeted by the hostess who sat us in a nice area. Bret was our server and he was on top of it! He explained the specials and the menu. We all got exactly what we wanted and a slice of cheesecake to go. We were warmly greeted at the entrance and quickly brought to our table. We were very hungry so didn't order any appetizers. We straight away ordered our dinners. They bring warm bread, so that was quickly devoured as warm bread is almost ALWAYS good, it was delicious. I had the Top Sirloin, well done (don't judge), and that's exactly what they delivered. Honestly, the prices of the entrees are validated given the plethora of food, the good taste of it, and the good service! I felt as if I never didn't have food on my table- it was great! We got the cheese bread as an appetizer, I believe the cheese was Colby Jack so it was a nice spin on the classic cheese bread. Then the waiter brought out complimentary rolls. Then we each got a complimentary soup or salad with our meal. THEN we got a choice of potato with our entree. So realistically, the price wasn't too bad for so much food! It's a steakhouse, so you know it'll be expensive anyways, but it made me feel better spending so much money. I got the Ribeye and it was delicious. Hard to go wrong in my book with a ribeye though because I tend to smother it in A1 sauce anyways! My dad got the Lamb and he loved it as well. Our server, Mitch, was very quick to accommodate us and another waiter constantly refilled our drinks and took away dirty plates. Mariah's has decent food, with a strange atmosphere and awful service. Our experience started off well, I enjoyed our salads and bread (I will say $7 to upgrade to a caesar salad, which is the same as the dinner salad except for the dressing, is criminal). Everything takes forever at Mariah's, it was 45 minutes or so between our salads and entrees. After we were all finished eating it took the waiter 20 minutes to stop by to ask if we wanted the check. In the two and a half hours we were seated, our waiter came to the table once after taking the order. No drink refills were offered, and even when I managed to flag down a different waiter to ask, he never brought it. My entree was decent, chicken parmesan was standard quality, but the ribs were pretty good. The interior of the restaurant is strange too, felt like eating in a dimly lit Pigeon Forge rental cabin. read more

Because of the other reviews we tried this place. It was a costly mistake. Based on the taste of the steak it was neither 45 day dry aged nor prime. The price for this way too chewy and tasteless piece of meat was higher than it would have been for actually dry aged and prime in a great Chicago restaurant. The lobster bisque was far too thick and had no sherry in it which the owner even admitted. Even the salads greens were out of date. When he came over to discuss the fact we were not eating the food, he started getting angry when we answered his questions about what we didn't like. Apparently people who do not have an experienced palate believe this place to serve great food. That can be the only explanation for the difference in other people's reviews and out experience. Springfield needs a great steakhouse so that we don't have to drive to Peoria or travel to the Chicago area to get a high quality meal. The same is true for seafood. The irony is that in the 1950s and 1960s Springfield had many great places to eat. We will never come back. Yuck! read more

The food was very good. The Alfredo rib shrimp plate was phenomenal. The wife's choice filet and loaded mash potatoes were awesome. It was also nice not have to pay for the side and salad as most places these days are a la carte. The express martini was too foamy and there was too much cream/half n half or whatever they use. The inside lighting is very low but kind of looks like a ski resort. A couple of local guys told me that Mariah's is the best place to get a steak in the area. After putting in a fun day at www.route66fest.com, I was starving and felt like I earned a special dinner. The restaurant has a north woods vibe and an impressive bourbon selection as you walk into Mariah's. Rumor has it I was greeted by Mariah herself who was hard at work. My good fortune was to have Mitch as my server. Mitch is also their bourbon expert and guided me to good selection. The menu has a nice selection, but I was focused on having steak. I picked my favorite and it was cooked as requested. I selected a house salad that was crisp and fresh. The French dressing most likely is made by the restaurants kitchen. My preference is for limited dressing. It was served on the side and was tasty. The rolls were hot, fresh and served with EVOO / parmesan cheese for dipping. I ordered a side of sautéed mushrooms to go with my steak, which was delicious. I picked a baked potato with butter and sour cream. The butter was whipped, which is a nice touch. I only managed to eat half of my steak and part of the potato. The other half I had at 10 o'clock in the morning after driving home to Bloomington, Illinois. Mitch was attentive and made me feel at ease which was appreciated as I was dining alone. Group of 11 visited here on Sunday night and it appeared the restaurant was closed. The staff and owner was more than accommodating in seating us and serving the group. Food was odd. Our appetizer of spinach artichoke was great! The entree was so weird we ordered chicken Marsala... it tasted like over fried orange chicken and we ordered a side a fettuccini which was very under seasoned. OMG...Mariah's is one of Springfield's finest hidden gems. You walk in and their is a large dining room to the left and to the right ...the ambiance is a romantic lodge with a fireplace and tables with cloth napkins and tablecloths. Their are two menus. One for drinks and the other menu is lined with appetizers and entrees that appear to be scrumptious and impressive, complimentary only to the best dates ever. I'm married and initially we were only hoping to have a hot meal that was tasty and close to home. I decided to stop by Mariah's because I've driven past Mariah's repeatedly since it opened. What a mistake...our visit to Mariah's was extremely pleasant. There are a thousand restaurants in the area which is why it took me so long to stop in. But!!! I have to say, I am so glad I didd. It will definitely not be the last time and it won't take me so long to return. We sat near the fire. Our server Sarah was so patient with us. We had had a really eventful day prior to coming into Mariah's so winding down and deciding to eat and what to eat was a challenge. Before it was all over, we had the Tequila Shrimp for an appetizer, a couple of cups of Lobster Bisque, we shared a chicken Caesar salad...all over a few cocktail. We enjoyed our night, thoroughly. Ultimately, we enjoyed our meal and our evening. Sarah, our server, was great. She was familiar with the menu, the specials and the wine pairings. We were glad to have her as our server. I'm all for giving businesses a pass for a less than stellar experience (sometimes two sub-stellar experiences) but my concerns about Mariah's don't seem like one-off. The fried calamari could have been matched by a corner beer joint - straight out of some sort of package and without any seasoning. The prime ribeye was cooked roughly properly in the middle but thin and grizzly on the ends. I had a Caesar salad, which was decent but it seems as though they swapped out anchovy in the dressing (which gives it that Caesar umami) for canned pitted black olives and canned artichoke hearts. Granted, these were not the most egregious decisions because even canned olives are good, but an interesting take for sure. My wife had a baked crab stuffed shrimp dish that has a full on layer of baked mozzarella cheese that n top, which some may like but seems to take away from the seafood. The highlight was the bread pudding that my wife and I split - it was delicious. I understand Mariah's is a special occasion place but I honestly cannot recommend it. Mercifully, we didn't drink so the bill wasn't shocking, I hope our experience was a one off but rarely can you just say that it's the food quality that disappointed. read more

Went here based on the rave reviews and Mitch being the greatest server. Husband made a reservation told them it was my birthday and our anniversary and that we would like a special table by the fireplace. Well..we get there and no mention of " I hear you are celebrating a birthday/anniversary ". Put us in a room by the bar away from the unlit fireplace (guess it wasn't cold enough). Mitch never once mentioned "I hear you are celebrating a special event". The guy who took the reservation over the phone was reassuring my husband it would be noted in the book that it was a special event. When we sat down we were informed the kitchen was behind so we were prepared to wait. We had the lobster bisque which kind of tasted like crab. Had the surf & turf which was priced right but the lobster was kind of overdone and tasted like it was boiled in the asparagus water. The filet mignon was the best part of the meal. So...not sure I'd celebrate a special occasion here because it was just another meal in quasi lodge looking restaurant... who knows if the fireplace would have made a difference?! read more

My son had just graduated ISP Academy and we were looking to celebrate as a family. We tried another well known steakhouse in the area that was not willing to put us at one table. Needless to say we called Mariah's and boy did they take care of us. Everything about Mariah's was a dining "experience". The atmosphere and the food were top notch, not to mention our server, Mitch, who was so knowledgeable about the steaks and drinks. The owner of Mariah's wrote me a SCATHING response to my HONEST review of my experience. In reading a lot of his other responses to his clientele, it is very apparent that he is unable to take any criticism what so ever regarding the quality of both his food and customer service provided by his wait staff. If you can't take the HEAT of people's honest reviews than stay out of the kitchen/restaurant business. Attacking your clients with your insulting responses is NOT going to make your business more successful. Instead, it will have the opposite effect. Good luck. I was part of a wedding reception in the upstairs banquet room. The room was beautiful and clean. Although the food was a bit on the expensive side, everything was fresh and delicious. The reason I am giving two stars is that the service we received by the wait staff was bad. We had a party of 15 and there was only one waitress taking care of our party. The waitress we had was not at all friendly and she made it very clear that she was not happy having to wait on a large party. Management, when you know that you have a large party coming to one of your banquet rooms, you need to have wait staff on hand who are good at dealing with large parties. Plus you should have a bare minimum of 2 wait staff waiting on a large party. It took close to 20 minutes to get our drinks. Another 25 minutes to get our appetizers and another 30 minutes to get our entrees. I could tell that our waitress was completely overwhelmed, even though we didn't make any extra requests. I enjoy hosting parties at local restaurants several times a year. However, after this experience I won't be hosting any of mine at Mariah's. Beautiful and roomy inside with very friendly and capable wait staff. I ordered the fillet cooked medium rare which came to me over cooked but the waiter was very apologetic and brought a new one in decent time and it was perfect. Let me start with saying that I absolutely love Mariahs. If you're on the fence and reading reviews, go! You will not be disappointed. I've been coming to Mariahs for 12 years! 12! My first time being for my birthday. I've been coming back regularly ever since. Even after moving 5 states away this is a staple that I must visit when I return for a visit. Every single thing is delicious and perfectly cooked. I'll go into that detail more below. I've been there on busy holidays like Easter, regular Sunday brunch, Friday night dinner, special event in the banquet area upstairs and rehearsal dinner by the bar and each and every time I'm more impressed with how smooth and great everything goes. Their servers are very knowledgeable and attentive. Nothing gets missed or overlooked. I've never had a bad server or experience, in case you can't tell by now. No matter what the occasion or day, the food is fresh, delicious and always keeps me wanting to try sometjing new. And I am not one to usually try anything new. I've had their lobster ravioli, fettuccini, chicken piccata, encrusted tilapia, lasagna, every dessert on their menu, salmon and NY Strip Steak. I keep trying something different each time. You'll always start off with delicious bread and homemade dipping sauce. It's additive and not like any other bread in town. It's perfect to pair with salads/soups. Their Caesar salad is creamy and perfectly topped with two black olives. I always look forward to these. The timing of salad to meals is always on point too. Between the bread and salad and generous portion of entree make sure you save room for dessert. The creme brûlée is the best. They roast the sugar on top with a big torch and they serve it to you on fire while the rum burns off. It is the best crunch breaking through the caramelized sugar top to the creamy bottom. Another great part is the owner "Sam" is ALWAYS there and interacting with guests ensuring everyone is happy. You can tell he's a passionate and genuine guy. One of the worst dining experiences we've had. Our waiter was rude and made my wife feel like a horrible. She asked a simple question and with a arrogant tone he replied your not from around here are you. We're in the Midwest you can't get fresh lobster here. Wow just because your from New York don't mean it's ok to belittle your guest. My steak was good the sautéed onions were phenomenal. She got pasta and it was low quality and the sauce was not to our liking either. My husband and I went to this restaurant with high expectations as Mariah's is rated number one restaurant in Springfield and the number one steakhouse in Springfield. We started with a bottle of wine, which was the average and appetizers. Then, I ordered a fillet mignon with a side of fettuccine Alfredo and a salad. My husband ordered ribs, fettuccine alfredo, and chicken Parmesan with a Cesar salad. My husband and I only had two bites, but our waiter would have never known because we never saw him after we received our wine and appetizers. He never came by to check on us or to see how the food was. He did not even come at the end to remove the plates or to give us the bill, it was the bus boy. It was a very disappointing experience. We asked for take away containers, but we left the food in the hotel refrigerator because the food was inedible. My filet mignon was very expensive however, it was extremely tough and not prepared medium rare. There are better restaurants in Springfield. read more

This was a Chicago caliber steakhouse in Springfield. We enjoyed everything we had. The steaks were cooked perfectly. The beef vegetable soup had great flavor. I especially enjoyed the desserts. We shared a creme brûlée & bread pudding. They even had 40+ bourbons. Our server Mitch was very knowledgeable about them too.
