My grandparents and parents have used Lounsbury's ALWAYS, so when I bought a house, I knew I would too. Bruce and Sue are truly the best at what they do! Sue helped me fix my ice maker over the phone. Bruce made a quick adjustment to my washing machine one day, even though it's not a brand he sells or typically services. And just today, Bruce came and replaced my oven igniter while educating us the whole time. He also adjusted my stove burners because he doesn't think they're ever adjusted low enough! He is the most efficient repairman I've ever seen - start to finish (including the "extras" of answering my question and adjusting my burners) in less than 45 minutes. It was clear from just the phone call that Bruce was an expert, and when he came out I instantly knew I was in the best hands possible. I cannot recommend them more! We had been having trouble with our washer. I tried fixing myself but had to give up. Bruce came out to our house at 6:30 in the evening, had it fixed in about 15 minutes. Refused to take anything for the work! He and Sue are just extra special people who truly care about providing excellent customer service. I cannot thank them enough. If you need repairs or new appliances you absolutely should call them. Bruce is a nut case. I have used him several times to fix appliances and though he always seemed short and kind of aggressive over the phone, he would fix the broken part and move on. This last time, he lost his cool and I got to experience his crazy side. I have a refrigerator in my airbnb in the garage which wasn't working properly. When I spoke to Bruce explaining what's happening, he kept cutting me off not letting me finish explaining the symptoms. He seemed very determined about what needs to be replaced so I did not argue. Couple of weeks goes by till I'm finally at the house myself and I notice a giant pool of water under the fridge and the freezer is so frozen over I can't even open it, I called Bruce to see if he might have any ideas. He immediately changed his tone, started defending himself and accusing me of things that made no sense. I was shocked and speechless for a minute. He was babbling so fast I couldn't get a world in. In a very calm manner I tried to tell Bruce that I was calling to consult and not to hold him accountable for this but I am not sure he was hearing me at this point, he just kept on going with his aggressive accusations. He then said he will just come back and remove the part he had installed and maybe that will teach me a lesson when I have no one else to go to... wow... completely unnecessary and shocking but "ooook" I said in a totally shocked voice. I asked when he think he might be coming by, his reply was "next time I'm in the area". OK I said, could you please give me the heads up so I could let my renters know to which he snapped "NO! I will come by when it is convenient for me and if they want to call the cops, they can do that!" I was in complete awe. My husband was next to me overhearing the whole interaction and when I finally hung up all he could say was "what in the world is wrong with that guy..." I am still very confused by Bruce's short temper and no I certainly will not be calling him back for cervices. read more

I bought a dryer here once and a year later I needed a new washer so I called them up. The guy who owns the place said he remembered my stairs and didn't want to take a washer down to my basement. I told him we actually had put in a new railing which made the stairs much wider, but he still declined to make the sale. So, I called Lowe's, bought a washer, and it was delivered the next day with no drama. This guy can go fuck himself. read more

It's rare to be able to give five stars, but when my luxury refrigerator stopped working, they showed up the same day I called, coming after their normal business hours. I was lucky that he could so easily diagnose the problem and even had a part that could get the unit working until he could order the exact part. I had made arrangements to buy a back up refrigerator for my basement just in case, so I went ahead and got it from Lounsbury, because a local business that is so responsive to their customers should have our support. They delivered the new unit the next day, and I have to say that the way they set up the new unit made it very clear on why you should shop local. The level of service blows away the big box stores and they stand behind their products much more. read more

I can only echo others' excellent reviews. Great service and reasonable prices. Good old fashioned customer service. I often argue with friends who run to Lowes or Home Depot for an appliance to save a few bucks. Wait a few years when you need repair. Try getting one of their repair people to come at your convience. Bruce will be there with his expertice and reasonable price. Plus you're giving your money to a local, family owned business--not some mega box store that treats their employees like crap. read more

You cannot go wrong with Lounsbury. Great old fashioned, family run business and service that is impossible to find these days. Yeah, you'll save some cash going to a big box store but in the end it is not worth it. Our story: We bought a stove from Home Depot. What a headache! The attachment for it the old stove was a old school copper hookup that Home Depot would not touch but didn't tell us until after we paid for installation and home delivery. So back went the stove to Home Depot and instead I called Bruce at Lounsbury. He and his assistant pulled out the old stove, put in the new one, hooked it up, leveled the thing with extra wood they had on hand (uneven old floors) and covered the (then unknown to us) mice hole on the back with screening so it wouldn't damage the new stove (DID YOU KNOW: mice chew on the wires destroying new stoves!!). He would not install the stove until the mice hole was taken care of since he felt responsible for the stove from his shop. Not only that while he's putting in the stove (and came back twice to do the job correctly!!) he noticed the squeaking noise that the dryer was making. He goes into washing room and gives a temp fix to the dryer and lets us know we need a new part. No more noise for months until we had him back to fix the dryer, Amazing!!! More than a year later the dryer and the stove are working perfectly. He remembers every appliance and every house he's been to. All of this at a really REASONABLE price. We need a new refrigerator and there is no question we will be going to Oak Hill to shop for one. This store is a gem! read more

If only every service provider on the mountaintop were this friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We have purchased a washer, dryer, fridge and stove from them. When I went to the store, Bruce's wife was very helpful, recommending the best, lower priced option (because the more features an appliance has, the more crap that can go wrong with it). Then Bruce delivers it, installs it...and comes to service it when I call. None of the appliances we've purchased from them have needed service until now, and it's only the washer. They are very reliable. I was replacing an ancient but beloved stove for which there were no longer any parts. Bruce explained what he could do (he had a decent selection of mid price stoves), was honest that if I wanted the bargain basement he could not match the box store price, had a couple of sensible things to say about why getting the self cleaning stove made sense which checked out on my subsequent research (more energy efficient, heavier duty, and better insulated),and still cut the price. And of course, he really beat the box store because he did the conversion to LP and installation without extra. Stove was there the very next day. Second time I have used them as they replaced a refrigerator for me about a year ago and once again were not more than the box store, including that the first I selected did not fit in the doorway between kitchen and dining/living room. read more

My mother bought both a washing machine and a dishwasher from Lounsbury Appliance Store. She bought locally because she wanted a local person to be able to service the machines. After all, Bruce, the owner, is a nephew to her friend who she worked with at Stiefel Laboratories for many years. As it turns out Bruce got disgruntled when my mother asked him if he could adjust the washing machine. He told her that he couldn't stand "old people".
