The people taking the order at the counter have never messed up my sandwich but I do get a little upset at how long it can take to get your food. I'm not sure you could call Lou's Cafe a hidden gem, given the number of nearby office workers that get lunch here. However, it is tucked back off the street so you might not see it, and is certainly a gem. The shop itself is quite small, with grab and go fridges and a bustling staff behind the long counter. Place your order to the right and wait for it to be prepped. I wouldn't say they're particularly fast, but given the volume they're dealing with they're not slow either. There is standing room inside, or you can enjoy their awesome exterior patio, which includes tables as well as outdoor couches AND heaters (!). I got the tuna melt on dutch crunch bread and it was absolutely perfect, nailing my craving. I think it was $12.50, which seems like a heck of a deal for SF. 1st time visit to Lou's Cafe. Picked it for a quick lunch of a sandwich and soup. Picked the RB Mushroom and the Soup of the Day was Enchilada. The soup was excellent and came with two slices of a cheese bread which was also very good. Total came to about $24 before tipping, which feels fair for SF prices. Guess I should write a review since I've been coming regularly now when I've got shoots in the area or have to go to my dentist. My go to spots are Lou's and Il Canto Cafe. Il Canto more if it's earlier in the day (love their breakfast burrito) or Lou's if it's daytime. The LLB Special is one of my go tos but I've had 3-4 different sandwiches and all of them are tops! I got the chicken pesto sandwich and it was so good that I accidentally ate the whole thing even though I was only going to eat half. I was sooo full afterwards but didn't regret it. They put a sauce in the sandwich that gives it an extra kick. The part I like most about this sandwich is that even though it is large, the bread is not too thick, and it is toasted to perfection. I like this location because the cashier is very friendly and the ambiance is modern. You may need to wait awhile for your food because they have many orders. I ordered delivery on Uber eats. Delivery was fast and efficient. The veggie sandwich was amazing, certainly one of the best mushroom sandwiches I've had in the city. Delivery is definitely on the pricy end, but I understand that Uber eats takes a large cut so I understand the up-charge. It may have been because I ordered delivery, but the sandwich w a little dense. Hidden in the smallest cove of 100 Pine is a small cafe that can take my money any day of the week. Let me tell you their name, Lou's Cafe. Lou's Cafe was recommended to me after mentioning that I was craving a sandwich. People had said that they had gone and very much enjoyed it. Thus, it was my job to see if that held true for when I went. If you are looking for this place, there are two ways that you can get there: walking directly through the 100 Pine lobby and ending up right next to the restaurant or walking down XXX and then taking a left at a small alley that will take you to the cafe itself. It's a small little area, but there was a line for people who had ordered / were ordering. I got there and was pleasantly surprised and overwhelmed by the amount of options that they had. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and made a few slight changes, including pastrami, avocado and on a Dutch Crunch bread (as well as all of the free toppings such as lettuce, tomato, jalapeno spread and such). The cashier and the team behind the counter were really friendly and quick with the service, even having so many orders. They moved well for sure. Everything about this was amazing. It was crunchy, warm, and delicious. It was an excellent size, filled me up and left me wanting to go back and try more of their options. I got the chicken pesto delivered, and the bread was still crunchy on the outside and perfectly soft on the inside. It was a perfect sandwich bread and I'm sure all their sandwiches taste amazing due to it. The chicken inside my sandwich was also very soft and tasted high quality, I can tell their deli meats are very well prepared.
