I went here early this morning (Saturday around 8:30am) for breakfast takeout after attending my mom's graduate school ceremony at Dartmouth. I was staying at the Hanover Inn and this was a quick 1 minute walk and it opens super early in the morning (6:30 I believe). I was able to order right away and my order was ready in 15 minutes. I ordered the Classic Eggs Benedict with poached eggs and home fries. They placed the poached eggs and hollandaise sauce in their own separate containers in order to avoid the takeout container getting soggy. This was a nice thought but I wish that they were able to offer a takeout container that didn't get soggy so that I wouldn't have to construct my own dish. The dish itself was decent considering this is a small town in New Hampshire. Nothing extraordinary but tasty enough. I think the main draw here are the hours, location close to campus, plentiful menu options, and Dartmouth tradition. I sat at the outside tables to eat where there was ample space early on Saturday morning. The inside looked busy even at that early of a time and people were coming in and being added to the waitlist. The inside looked like it had a very cute aesthetic. There is a lot to like about this place. I liked my chicken with pesto. It was really filling and tasted fresh. The salads are really amazing in variety. They had a ton of healthy vegetarian options and sandwiches. I liked the menu and needed time to figure out what I wanted. Our waitress was wonderful and super patient. Solid breakfast that fills you up all day! Beware of the wait on line but here's a tip: you can sit in the counter tops and it's first come first serve. If you want a table, be prepared to wait for at least 45 minutes for two people on a Saturday morning. Ordered the big green which comes with sausage, bacon, home fries, French toast culler, and a choice of muffin, English muffin, or toast. This was delicious and bacon was different. They claim that everything they use is from the locals which is good. We also ordered a bratwurst and egg dish which wasn't bad but I prefer the big green. Walked in for lunch today, and we were absolutely delighted with Lou's. Despite being busy, everything was quick, orderly, and the restaurant staff seemed to run like a well oiled machine. Adorable little breakfast diner. Breakfast plates are so big I often have to just get pancakes because I can't finish everything. Pretty good variety of breakfast options, with a few lunch items thrown in; however, I do offer a word of warning if you don't like or can't eat eggs. The vast majority of their breakfast items contain some sort of eggs, BUT you can absolutely ask for any meal without them. They're really flexible with what they can build/offer: if there's a combination of things you want, let them know and they'll make it work. Outdoor seating when the weather's nice is gorgeous. A true Hanover classic! Can't beat the locally sourced and/or homemade breads and accoutrements. Sad that they no longer have quiche (was the best ever) but ample breakfast alternatives including some adventurous options (chili crisp fried rice breakfast bowl or spicy avocado bfast sammie). It's a cute diner-looking spot in Hanover. My wife and I have tried a variety of breakfast meals and have always been pleased. The Cruller French Toast with strawberries is amazing! I almost feel that people go to Lou's because it is a part of the Hanover and Dartmouth culture. The food though, is not that impressive. I had a burger (that was on their popular items list) that was way too dry and not tasty. Actually a five guys cheese burger easily tastes better. The food is really not that great, it is often soggy and over salted. The staff are mainly school kids who stand around chatting while you wait 15 mins to be served. Lou's Restaurant & Bakery is awesome! We went to Lou's for breakfast while visiting the area, because we found it online and saw some advertisements for it in local publications. And trust me, we were so glad we made that decision! We learned upon looking over the menu that Lou's supports many local farmer's and producers. Of course, this was a great sign that the food would be tasty and fresh. The menu looked amazing! Everything sounded so good! I ordered the Cruller French Toast, which was phenomenal! It's glazed crullers dipped in seasoned egg batter, grilled to a golden brown and lightly dusted with powdered sugar. I opted to order the dish plain, with butter and maple syrup, though there's an option to get it with fruit. The tables are adorned with little jars of fresh strawberry preserves though, so I used some of that on the dish as well and it was fantastic! B went with the Chorizo con Huevo y Papas Taco, which was a mixture of Chorizo sausage, scrambled eggs, Monterey Jack cheese, and homefries in a large soft flour tortilla. The dish came served with salsa and guacamole. It was also awesome! If you're in the area I would highly recommend Lou's Restaurant & Bakery. If we find ourselves back in Hanover we will definitely be visiting again to try out some more of their delicious menu! read more

This is such a cute little diner where everyone would know your name if you went there enough. The servers were little old white ladies that were super sweet. It was packed with college students and families when we went there for lunch on a weekday. Definitely seemed like a local's favorite spot. They had a pretty impressive menu filled with lots of healthy items which I wasn't expecting. I got an egg white omelet with roasted turkey, spinach and tomatoes. It came with fruit and gluten-free toast. Pretty good overall. They sell healthy and not-so-healthy dessert items in a display case right when you walk into the restaurant. It's one of Lou's specialities: their classic glazed cruller dipped in egg batter and fried until golden brown. Honestly life changing. If you're like me and can't just only have a sweet breakfast, I recommend the Big Green, which comes with two pieces of cruller french toast, sausage, bacon, home fries, two eggs, and a side of toast or english muffin. I've found my perfect brunch in this. Lou's is super popular, so don't be surprised if there's a wait.
